Born in Krefeld near Cologne/ Germany in 1963. In 1986 I finished my 4 years education as ceramist creating pots and sculptures. Afterwards I studied ceramic-design for a while and I had two sons. I went to Berlin where I worked in music event management for two years. In 1994 I jumped over to Bordeaux, France and I was introduced to " creating wooden sculptures " by a student of Joseph Beuys. So I invented wood-carving in my personal style. Painting on sculptured planks gives me the possibility to realize three dimensions where only two dimensions exist. I love the expression of the group of artists ''Brücke''. Egon Schiele is my best friend. He died too early. Max Beckmann is my second best friend. Käthe Kollwitz is my friend who suffered the most. Since 2001 I am working in the Var. Exhibitions in Germany, Holland, Spain, Switzerland, Monte Carlo and soon in Bargemon.
Anselm Kiefer. Anselm Kiefer is considered by the most serious Critics as THE Most Important Painter working today but how could he have missed being as he is a former Student of Joseph Beuys and Peter Dreher of the contemporary Bauhaus that is the KUNSTACADEMIE DUSSELDORF that has incubated many of the other most important Artists today. As I have related and anyone can confirm with just a casual research it was Germany that was the International Capital of Serious Art and Culture during the Weimar era before the coming of Hitler, the King of the Right Wing who not only murdered over 6 Million innocent people but destroyed the Art scene and Artists of Germany along with same. The less astute have never been aware of this and would not have believed it and would still not believe it even now even though again all one has to do is a little research to discover that this was TRUE. Germany always produced the greatest Symphonic Music, they also produced the greatest Musical Theatre think Kurt Weil and Berto ...
Anselm Kiefer was born on March 8, 1945, in Donaueschingen, Baden-Württemburg, Germany, and raised near the east bank of the Rhine in the region of the Black Forest. Kiefer was named after the nineteenth-century classical painter Anselm Feuerbach and planned from childhood to become an artist. After studies at the university in Freiburg and the academy in Karlsruhe, he studied informally in the early 1970s with the artist Joseph Beuys on occasional visits to Düsseldorf. Before moving to Barjac, in the Languedoc region in the south of France, in 1992, Kiefer made art at home in Hornbach and then in a large converted brick factory in Buchen. He recently moved from the south of France to Paris. The great majority of Kiefer's works since his emergence in the late 1960s through the 1990s refer to subjects drawn from Germany and its culture: German history, myth, literature, art history, music, philosophy, topography, architecture, and folk customs, even going so far as to exploit clichés or commonplace icon ...

Venice Biennale needs Ai Weiwei – a man who makes art matter Like Beuys in the 70s or Duchamp in 1917, with Ai Weiwei we have the privilege of seeing a modern master in his moment Jonathan Jones, The Guardian Who will be the star of this year's Venice Biennale? Ai Weiwei. Not since Joseph Beuys created his sublime installation Tram Stop in the German Pavilion for the 1976 Biennale has Venice foregrounded an artist so much at the peak of his powers. Ai Weiwei will show work in the very German pavilion whose turbulent history Beuys illluminated, and also has a solo exhibition running as a "collateral" event of the Biennale. Since he matters so much more than any other living artist right now, and operates in his own personal sphere where he can make the slightest things significant – the other day he witnessed and filmed a street fight and it became world news – there is little doubt that he will be the star. He makes art matter, and the Biennale needs an artist who can do that. Meanwhile, a new insta ...
For decades, Joseph Beuys has been exalted as a heroic icon of postwar avant-garde German art. But a new biography accuses him of having been a serial liar who never completely emancipated himself from the views of Nazism and a bizarre cult.

FW: Your painting style is quite unique and it is often difficult to find reference points. Can you explain which artists have influenced your work? BGP: When I first started painting some 15 years ago I was very influenced by Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg. Later it was Joseph Beuys and Anselm Kiefer – and a guy named Robert A. Burns. He was the set designer on The Texas Chainsaw Massacre which made a tremendous impression on me. Looking back, I would probably have to put Burns at the top of the list. Then one day visiting a museum shop I randomly picked up a book on Max Beckmann and everything started to fall apart. Eventually I stopped painting. Beckmann completely overwhelmed me, and rather than allowing him to inspire me, I let myself be blinded by his genius. I got confused and felt like I didn’t know what I was doing anymore, and then I just stopped. I threw everything away, even my brushes. It wasn’t until you came along and told me to snap out of it that I went and bought me some new ...
ADRIÁN VILLAR ROJAS | GROUP SHOW Expo 1: New York May 12 - September 2 MoMA PS1, New York Klaus Biesenbach, the chief curator at large at the Museum of Modern Art, and the director of MoMA PS1, the museum’s outpost in Long Island City, will devote the next six months to EXPO 1: New York, a sprawling exploration of the current state of the environment and social and political change. The festival’s centerpiece is “Dark Optimism,” a show by about 35 contemporary artists based on the notion, attributed by the museum to the editor of Triple Canopy magazine, that we are on the brink of both the apocalypse and a technological transformation that promises a brighter future. Adrián Villar Rojas, Meg Webster, Agnes Denes, Anna Betbeze and the Fluxus performance artist Joseph Beuys are among the artists whose works are included in the exhibition, which opens at MoMA PS1 on May 12 and runs through Sept. 2.

THIS IS NOT A LOVE SONG Interfaces between visual arts and pop music Exhibition, Sound & Vision Date: 22 May, 2013 @ 12:00 – 29 September, 2013 @ 20:00 At: La Virreina Centre de la Imatge Palau de la Virreina, La Rambla,99 08001 Barcelona, España Inauguration: 21/05 at 7:30 p.m. This is Not a Love Song sets out to trace the genealogy of the relations between pop music and video-creation from the 1960s to today, with emphasis on those moments in which there was feedback between the two manifestations as they explored the field of experiment, utopia and political incorrectness. Since the 1960′s, various generations of avant-garde artists have integrated into their production processes elements that are related with the attitudes and imaginaries of pop music. Artists of the calibre of Andy Warhol, Vito Acconci, Dan Graham, Nam June Paik, Joseph Beuys, John Baldessari, Rodney Graham, Tony Oursler, Christian Marclay, Mike Kelley, Douglas Gordon, Jeremy Deller o Damien Hirst, and many more, up to our days, ...
To remedy the *** Winds of the Art World: The Art World must use the term "Insider Art" until it disposes of the term "Outsider Art." We have limited the definitions of "artist" and "art" for too long. What Melvin Way does isn't any different from what Joseph Beuys did. Leaps of faith must be made. But we call one an artist and the other insane. Or an "outsider." The drawings of so-called "graphic" or "comix" artists are no different than those of Gorky, Alice , or De Kooning. We've made our definitions bad; made them boring. We break faith with art. *** winds, blowing through the flowers on our tomb; blowing through the curtains in our room; *** winds blowing every time we move your teeth; *** winds it's a wonder we even know how to breathe ...

Hello, SARAJEVO, Traditional cultural and religious diversity...! Me and Genti Koci, went to see the Museum of Contemporary Art. The original idea for the museum dates back to 1992 when the city was under siege and the plan was to build a collection of contemporary art from across the globe. Since that time, the founders have forged strong relations with several museums across Europe and have received donations of pieces from artists like Marina Abramovich, Anish Kapoor and Joseph Beuys.
