Ghost Brothers and Donald Trump's Hair Don't you think John Mellencamp and Stephen King look the same, especially with their Donald Trump-esque do's? But that aside, the two have collaborated on a decade-in-the-making musical play called "The Ghost Brothers of Darkland County," which had its first run in Altlanta last May (the reviews were mixed, though...) Apparently, Mellencamp owned a lakeside cabin in Indiana where he noticed lots of things "going bump in the night," like windows opening by themselves or things moving around. The cabin is supposedly haunted by two brothers who died fighting over a girl. And this was the inspiration of both to make the musical. In fact, the "soundtrack" was just released this June, and includes the talents of such artists as Elvis Costello, Rosanne Cash, Sheryl Crow, Neko Case, Ryan Bingham and Kris Kristofferson, plus the voices of actors Matthew Mcconaughey, Samantha Mathis and Meg Ryan. The musical will soon start a 20-city tour in Indiana, where it all began. Thi . ...
Digging this! "Co-written and arranged by John Mellencamp, Stephen King and T-Bone Burnett, it debuted a little over a year ago on a stage in Atlanta. The special CD & DVD edition of the production is complete with libretto and a mini-documentary — and the vocal talent here includes , Elvis Costello, Neko Case, Kris Kristofferson, Sheryl Crow, Taj Mahal and a host of other showbiz legends."
Another Father's Day suggestion? Yep! I realize sometimes it is difficult to find something special for the guys so I'm hoping this week's info will be helpful...if the man of the house likes books! This selection is very specific but is also very, very special! Recently Stephen King and John Mellencamp collaborated on a "Southern gothic thriller" musical based on a ghost story Mellencamp was told about a lake cabin he purchased several years ago. The master storyteller King wrote the play & Mellencamp wrote the music. T. Bone Burnett produced it. I have Special Limited Edition sets that include 2 CDs & 1 DVD. Dialog excerpts from the cast: Meg Ryan, Matthew Mcconaughey, Elvis Costello and others. Music performed by Sheryl Crowe, Kris Kristofferson, Elvis Costello, Roseanne Cash, Taj Mahal and others. This is very cool! Entire set is $50. Store hours Tues - Fri, 1 to 5:00; Sat. Noon to 5:00. Call 495-2665 for more information.
Been enjoying this brand new, extraordinary musical drama from John Mellencamp, Stephen King, and T. Bone Burnett. King wrote the libretto (his first ever), Mellencamp wrote all the songs (some of his best), and Burnett directed a host of actors and singers (including Sheryl Crow, Elvis Costello, Kris Kristofferson, Rosanne Cash, and Mellencamp himself, among lesser lights). It's a story of fratricide, regret, desire, and faith... and based on a real life story. Never seen or heard anything quite like this.
Stephen King, John Melloncamp and Sheryl Crowe make an album. Gonna avoid it, right? Now, add Elvis Costello, Niko Case, T Bone Burnett, Kris Kristofferson, Dave Alvin and Taj Mahal and make it a southern gothic musical about two brothers involved in a murder suicide. Yeah, I gotta get this...
"GHOST BROTHERS OF Darkland County" Haven't heard of it? It's a new MUSICAL with music by John Mellencamp and story by Stephen King that is being produced by T-Bone Burnett. It debuted at the Alliance Theater in Atlanta last year and is expected to tour to 20 cities in the U.S. for limited engagements soon. It also is a sound track album and digital book available from Amazon and the Apple Store now. The album features Kris Kristofferson, Elvis Costello, Rosanne Cash, Taj Mahal and Sheryl Crow, among others. The digital book is read by Kris Kristofferson and Meg Ryan, et al. I am curious about this and plan to listen to the song samples available at the Apple Store.
John Mellencamp is not touring, but he will be out on the road for three benefits over the next few weeks. The first is Sunday at the T.J. Martell Foundation’s fifth annual Nashville Honors Gala. He will be performing a tribute to his friendship and collaboration with T-Bone Burnett, who is being honored that night. Elvis Costello will also be on the bill paying tribute to Burnett. The second benefit is April 11th at the MJ&M Gala at the Moody Theatre in Austin, Texas. It's a joint fundraising effort led by actor Matthew Mcconaughey, musician Jack Ingram and the University of Texas Head Football Coach Mack Brown that works to impact the lives of kids by investing in programs dedicated to empowering children. And finally, on April 20th he'll do a set at the 25th Annual Bob Costas Benefit for SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center at the Fox Theatre in St. Louis.-AB
DUSTY’S 2013 MUSIC PREVIEW…The Final Chapter: The Rest, The Reissues, & The Rumors. I am not sure what to make of it, but I can’t wait to hear John Mellencamp, T Bone Burnette, & Stephen King’s “Ghost Brothers Of Darkland County”, a musical, which will see it’s soundtrack, featuring Mellencamp, Sheryl Crow, Elvis Costello, Neko Case, and more, will be released this June. On the heavy side, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, and Sammy Hagar are all wrapping up new studio albums for later in the year. Amos Lee has a live DVD scheduled for the spring. Bob Seger has been working from time to time on a new record, and has a pretty big tour this spring into summer. Perhaps a new album for it, or soon after? The rumors are that U2 will unleash their latest this fall, and will this be the year the 3rd Steve Perry solo album finally sees the light of day? He’s been working on that longer than Axl worked on ‘Chinese Democracy”. Speaking of Axl, a 25th anniversary edition of Guns N’ Roses “Appetite ...
Happy 65th birthday to guitarist, songwriter, leading session player and producer, Joseph Henry "T-Bone" Burnett. He was a guitarist in Bob Dylan's band on the Rolling Thunder Revue. After that tour ended, Burnett and two other members of the backing band formed The Alpha Band, followed by his first solo album in 1980. Burnett has produced Roy Orbison, Lisa Marie Presley, John Mellencamp, Los Lobos, Counting Crows, Elton John & Leon Russell, Elvis Costello, Diana Krall, Natalie Merchant, The Wallflowers, Tony Bennett & K.D. Lang. T-Bone won Grammy Awards for the 'O Brother, Where Art Thou?' soundtrack and for his work with Alison Krauss and Robert Plant. He was nominated for an Academy Award for his songwriting in 'Cold Mountain', and won an Academy Award for Best Original Song for "The Weary Kind" from Crazy Heart

I was asked, what are my 3 or 4 or 5 favorite albums? I named an easy dozen immediately, ignoring the confines of the question as I tend to do. And then I proceeded to consider another two dozen-ish and then I figured okay, let's try this for real. In no real order, here are my 40 favorite albums.I know, I know, as if you care. I just want this somewhere for posterity, I left out a lot (A WHOLE LOT!) but I think if I could only have 40, these would be it Toys in the Attic - Aerosmith. Eat A Peach - The Allman Brothers. The Last Waltz - The Band. Highway 61 Revisited - Bob Dylan. Night Moves - Bob Seger. Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen. The Trinity Session - Cowboy Junkies. The Rise & Fall of Ziggy Stardust - David Bowie. The Doors - The Doors. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Elton John. Armed Forces - Elvis Costello. A Trick of the Tail - Genesis. Original Movie Soundtrack - Hair. Scarecrow - John Mellencamp. The Legend of Johnny Cash - Johnny Cash. Get The Knack - The Knack. Led Zeppelin I - Led Zeppelin. Ph ...
