true, but you haven't cast Arnold Schwarzenegger in any of these directed by John McTiernan. So when that happens, they'll be good
Thumbs way up for Predator 2, one of the best and most underrated sequels ever made. Danny Glover is amazing in this and so is the rest of the cast. Stephen Hopkins's nicely pays tribute to John McTiernan's direction of the original classic, while making the film all his own with beautifully executed camera movements and shot compositions. Alan Silvestri expands his brilliant score of the original film into an even more symphonic accompaniment of the action sequences. And, of course, Stan Winston's studio knocks it out of the park with the creature effects that are as imaginative and scary as they are beautiful to behold. Unfortunately, this is the swan song of the legendary Kevin Peter Hall, whose performance as Predator had and will continue to haunt our dreams as one of the scariest, but nevertheless awesome monsters ever imagined.
Die Hard is a 1988 American action film directed by John McTiernan and written by Steven E. de Souza and Jeb Stuart, based on the 1979 novel Nothing Lasts Forever by Roderick Thorp. Die Hard follows off-duty New York City Police Department officer John McClane (Bruce Willis) as he takes on a group of highly organized criminals led by Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman), who perform a heist in a Los Angeles skyscraper under the guise of a terrorist attack using hostages, including McClane's wife Holly (Bonnie Bedelia), to keep the police at bay. ◙ Distributed by - 20th Century Fox

Arnold Schwarzenegger as Rafael Sabatini's CAPTAIN BLOOD? Directed by John McTiernan? This poster was mocked up in the '90s at the behest of the Oak who (thankfully) then thought better of it.
Whatever happened to Michael Mann? Sure, he did Public Enemies in 2009, but the last time he did something epically awesome was 10 years ago with Collateral. Then he left a bad taste in our mouths with that terrible Miami Vice flick. And for that matter, we need another John McTiernan action film. The things my brain forces me to obsess over at midnight.

Not my favorite Arnold Schwarzenegger, but one I've always been fond of. I think this movie was just misunderstood, ala Actor "Bruce Willis"s' Hudson Hawk (one of my favorite Bruno flicks). It's supposed to be tongue-in-cheek, but also action - a predecessor to Shoot 'Em Up. Tons of Arnold and action movie gems like Sly Stone as the Terminator in Tasker's world; appearances by both super-extras Sven-Ole Thorsen and Al Leong (who's killed by an ice cream cone); Franco Columbu's direction credit to Harry Tasker IV; Sharon Stone's and Robert Patrick's cameos; Maria Shriver, Jim Belushi, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chevy Chase and John McTiernan playing themselves, and, perhaps best of all, Arnold as Hamlet, plus the F. Murray Abraham bad guy reference. A new one I just saw, Ian McKellan as Death from Ingmar Burgman's The Seventh Seal. Bad *** I appreciate Tom Noonan in this one, as well.

Last Action Hero: Where do I began, in the 80's and 90's Arnold Schwarzenegger was a massive action star, so it seemed appropriate to make a movie parading the star and the action movies he star in. During the making of the movie the script went through some changes, but it maintained the Zak Penn and Adam Leff's central story about a boy getting sucked into a movie and living out the movie buff fantasy (that's the movie's central plot). Well the first script was meant to be a kids movie, it got sold, it attached Schwarzenegger for the lead role, and even got Die Hard director John McTiernan to direct. Well, eventually the studio wanted an R- rating, so they got Lethal Weapon writer Shane Black to completely re-wrote the script giving it the R-rating script, and his normal style of writing. Everything went along until Schwarzenegger decide to make it a PG-13 movie, so it can have a broad audience, so they brought in David Arnott and countless other writers came to make the changes. Everything was ok, and ...

Hi Mark, John McTiernan sent us a message regarding the 25th anniversary of Die Hard & his situation :
For the first time since I moved to LA, I took in a triple feature: This Is The End, White House Down, & World War Z. This Is The End Very funny. Go see it if you haven't. It's Superbad meets The Book of Revelations. Probably one of the funniest movies in a while (that's not saying much). 90 minutes of fun and getting to see actors pokes fun at themselves. Worth the price of admission just for the ending (in fact, Lesley Gill & Liz Waclawik HAVE to see this movie JUST for the ending...I promise you'll thank me if you haven't seen it). I will warn the faint of heart, it can be kinda scary and gross but in a Ghostbusters kinda way. - White House Down I must confess, I LOVE disaster movies. And even more than disaster movies, I LOVE LOVE 90s High Concept Action Movies. You know them...Air Force One, Speed, Twister, The Rock, Con Air, Broken Arrow, Face/Off (well not so much the last one for me, but they're a dying art). It was the Genre that gave birth to Michael Bay, John McTiernan, and Jan de bont. But I h ...
Arnold Schwarzenegger in John McTiernan's Last Action Hero released twenty years ago today.
PREDATOR Back in 1987, we were seeing a wide variety of movies; Terminator, Rain Man, The Shining and many more, the list goes on. The big alien movie of the moment was of course Alien; however, John McTiernan brought us a new concept. Rather than humans seeking alien life forms, why not the other way around, with brutal consequences. The movie begins with an alien aircraft entering Earth’s atmosphere after splitting from another craft - which automatically asks the questions what and where? It then cuts to Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger – Terminator, Commando) and his team arriving at a base being asked to rescue a Cabinet Minister, whose helicopter had disappeared. Dutch agrees and with the help of an old friend, turned CIA, Dillon (Carl Weathers – Rocky franchise) they are dropped at the point where the helicopter was last traced. Soon enough, the team find the helicopter in a wreck and are horrified at the remains of the bodies – hung upside down and skinned. The team quickly suspect a Guerr ...

There are those who wonder if we are doing the right thing here, those that argue that because somebody is famous or a great artist they are not above the law. Those who think that are ABSOLUTELY right, nobody is above the law and this page does not serve the purpose of proving otherwise. Those who think that are also missing the point, what we believe on this page is that John McTiernan has already paid full price, but not only that, we also believe he is being made an example so that others, more powerful, with more friends in Hollywood, can sleep tight. Die Hard Die Hard with a Vengeance is a 1995 action thriller film and the third in the Die Hard film series. It was produced and directed by John McTiernan (who directed Die Hard). Written by Jonathan Hensleigh, and stars Bruce Willis as New York City Police Department Lieutenant John McClane. Samuel L. Jackson as McClane's reluctant partner Zeus Carver, and Jeremy Irons as Simon Peter Gruber. It was released on May 19, 1995, five years after Die Hard 2, and was followed by Live Free or Die Hard (Die Hard 4.0) in 2007 and A Good Day to Die Hard in 2013.
The next Die Hard movie should be Bruce Willis breaking John McTiernan out of prison with the help of Samuel L. Jackson and Carl Winslow.

FUN FACT!^%$In Commando there is a scene where Arnold hacks off a guy's arm with a blade. Arnold came up with the idea in the next take that he picks the guy's arm up and slaps him in the face with his own hand. John Mctiernan, the director didn't want to do it. Ten years later the creators of Toy Story honored that idea and had Woody slap Buzz in the face with his own arm. Wonderful how a small idea can transport across a decade.

Review: A Good Day to Die Hard: Hollywood should either get John McTiernan, Jeb Stuart, and Steven de Souza back...
Why does the Die Hard series keep getting more and more preposterous, with over-the-top action sequences that defy believability and an increasingly stupid storyline? The first two installments, in my mind, are terrific. Can't go wrong with either of those. The third movie...Die Hard With a Vengeance -- I know some says it's great -- but to me, it was the start of the great decline. Casting a superstar (Willis) next to a rising superstar (Samuel Jackson) was too much alpa-male. I'm wondering if Willis and jackson argued with the director everyday on who would get more screen time. So the producers listened to me (or maybe I just think they did) and cast Willis next to the neanderthal known as Justin Long in DH4. Long was probably just happy to be in the same room as the great Bruce Willis, so no chest-bumping there. But it was in this movie that the action sequences started to get real silly, with Willis jumping from a semi-truck and sliding down the back of an F-15 fighter jet while landing on concrete. ...

Die Hard movies belong to John McTiernan. They just do. Give him his franchise back. You listening, Hollywood...? (Because you know HE is.)
sadly, probably John mctiernan's last good movie?
In 1986, a sequel was written by Steven E. de Souza, and revised by Frank Darabont, with an eye to having John McTiernan direct. The script was based on the book 'Nothing Lasts Forever' (1979) by Roderick Thorp, but Schwarzenegger wasn't interested in reprising the role. The script was then reworked with a new central character, eventually played by Bruce Willis, and became "Die Hard". I did not know this.

i think if I see another Die Hard movie, I'll just throw up! Since No. 3 it has been downhill.
A Good Day to Die Hard. What a shame. John McTiernan would be turning in his prison cell.
This video contains both tracks of Truckzilla, by Marco Beltrami.
You should be ashamed for making A Good Day to Die Hard. Please get John McTiernan to save the series!
With a new sequel out, 'MI: Ghost Protocol' director Brad Bird breaks down the 1988 classic
John McTiernan did Die Hard 1 & 3. To me John McClane in those movies is the same person. I wish he’d have done 5.
This may be John McTiernan's best film, though I'm still very fond of PREDATOR. Such a great cast, and phenomenal script.
I'm with you there. DH3 is great. First and third films directed by John McTiernan. Too bad he's headed to prison.
We always joke about directors being sentenced to 'movie jail' for making a bad film. But in all seriousness, for the crime of A Good Day TO Die Hard, John Moore should be forced to trade places with John McTiernan in federal prison...
It's possible you are thinking about going to see "A Good Day to Die Hard". If you decide to do this, let me suggest another option. Get in your car, floor the gas pedal, and drive straight off a bridge. It's about the same thing, you'll enjoy it more, and you won't have to deal with the feelings of sadness and shame in the aftermath.
popular actor plays lead role in the move Die Hard ? *Candii*

Our recommendation for tonight is Die Hard directed by John McTiernan. Iconic and original, No one can go wrong with this Gem of action. GLP
Len Wiseman should return to the franchise. Better yet, Renny Harlin or bail out John McTiernan! All exceptional directors!
So, other than John McTiernan directed both "The Hunt For Red October" and "Die Hard", do you know how to connect the 2 films? The teddy bear that Jack Ryan (Alec Baldwin) is asleep next two on the plane as he travels back home to see his daughter is the same teddy bear that John McClaine (Bruce Willis) retrieves from the overhead storage to bring to his kids to when he visits Los Angeles
Arnold Schwarzenegger,Carl weathers n John MCtiernan movies lovers do u have memories of this stars...predator
We're hitting the ten o'clock Die Hard at Devonshire tonight. We would be honoured if you would join us
Just saw it. Despite the hate from critics, this movie is lightyears better than 4 could ever be and brought back McClane for the most part. Granted not as good as the trilogy, but 4 was terrible beyond belief making this look like the Godfather.
The One Where It’s Not 1986, Anymore In many respects, Die Hard 5 is as bad as Taken 2. In fact, I think the opening fifteen minutes are even worse. Picture the worse title cards you’ve...
If you want to talk A Good Day To Die Hard I'm yours for the next hour. What did you think of it?
My wonderful girlfriend treated me to the latest Die Hard film tonight for Valentine's Day, Needless to say I was excited considering the franchise is by far one of my favorites and its franchise star Bruce Willis aka John McClane is my all-time favorite action hero. With that being said I regretfully say that this film was hands down the worst of the series and confirming my suspicion that 75% of Hollywood's working writers are spoiled rich kid punks who are out to prove to daddy that they aren't the garbage hacks they really are. I mean how does a guy like John Moore make a giant turd like Max Payne and then still get gigs. The script was paper thin and littered with bad action cliches. The mere fact that the film had only 2 acts as opposed to the standard three was a clue that the filmmakers mailed this one in from the very start of the film. The premise wasn't terrible. A good writer could have really done wonders with an aging John McClane going to rescue his troublemaker estranged son who turns out ...
I expected A Good Day to Die Hard to be disappointing, and boy, was I right. The writers forgot who McClane is. Either that or he has gone senile. Get John McTiernan back in the director's chair, for the love of Zeus.
"Jason Long is somewhere sitting at home cracking open a beer glad that he's no longer in the worst Die Hard movie" -David Brewer
A Good Day To "Die Hard" review: No. Just, no. Make it go away. Not a bad mindless action film but it is NOT a Die Hard film. Yippi ki ay mother f-...
Poor Bruce. Even with the rating.film is getting SLAUGHTERED. Can anyone say.JOHN MCTIERNAN? HH
just watched John Moore's A Good Day TO Die Hard - another disappointing entry in the tired franchise. While the action is decent & Jai Courtney isn't bad in his John McClane Jr. role, the film feels uninspired & Willis is [as usual] on autopilot. I'll keep saying it, you can't make a great Die Hard movie with just Bruce Willis. You need John McTiernan. Die Hard WITH A VENGEANCE to me is the only true Die Hard sequel & that's because McTiernan understands the character and knows how to bring out the best in Willis. Harlin, Wiseman, Moore...FOX needs to stop hiring mediocre directors & bail McTiernan outta jail so we can get one final great Die Hard movie. This fifth entry I can give nothing higher than a 6/10.
Not even the great Bruce Willis can save this bloated, overblown fifth installment of the iconic Die Hard franchise, which trades the charm and ingenuity of past installments for murky direction, lazy writing and a script devoid of relatable characters.
So the word is out on the new Die Hard film.and there's only one word. It's spelled the same as MAD, but with a B instead of an M.
I actually just read this online: so far not many people have suggested a female director, but one can imagine Kathryn Bigelow, arguably the greatest living action director -- really? REALLY?!
He's made some amazing films, he stands as an icon of a lengthy era, but I submit that John McTiernan is still an unfairly maligned filmmaker.
Wait, the new Die Hard came out today?? Translation, the studio had no faith in this franchise anymore when it should be a summer release.
Yikes read a brutal review of the new Die Hard, deep worries.
I just want to clarify from last night: Iny opinion Die Hard 5 wasn't just "bad for a Die Hard movie" or "bad because McClane's character isn't intact, but its an OK action movie." ITS STRAIGHT UP EMBARASSING AS "A MOVIE." Good god. The acting, the pacing, the editing, the story. WHAT THE *** WAS THAT!!!??? Seriously, it makes 4 look like a well made, coherreant, cohesive film with 300% more McClane intact. My jaw was literally dropped for some of it.
John McTiernan please come back to Die Hard! :(
The Die Hard franchise has always had a checkered past with critics. The first movie is just about as universally beloved as action movies get, but the three sequels that have come out since have a...
Well.judging from the reviews I'm reading, looks like I'll be skipping the latest part of the, um, well, I hate to call them "Die Hard" films anymore, because they fell off of the same cliff as the "Alien" films. If they for some reason make a 6th.please for the love of God wait for John McTiernan to get out of prison to direct and make John McClane human again.
I thought I'd take a little break from all this heavy Awards season cramming with a little fun -- a pre-emptive harbinger of future summer fun. Hey, Brandon DeVine you know how you fantasize me not loving or even disliking a film... It's like someone set both FinalDraft for the script and Final Cut Pro to "Random" or "Shuffle" for the film itself. That must be the case...as multiples of whole scenes exist in parallel to moments seen in commercials that possessed more continituity and weren't used in the actual film..they were shot...and shuffled out of the final version, or maybe the scenes fell out from all the gratuitous and ridiculous handcam cinematography. Seriously...FPS Deathmatch rounds have more narrative continituity. Caches of weapons materialize with some logic and are at least used by specialized classes...where as here...I dunno...Wish Fulfillment? or "tension" is justification enough for a weapon to manifest and be used at any given moment. Do filmmakers forget what made arguably the firs . ...
A Good Day To Die Hard should've been titled A Good Day To Skip Skip Die Hard. Hated it. The fact that I don't understand the Russian language didn't help any, being that a good third of the film is in Russian, sans any subtitles. Very annoying. And very un-Die Hard-like. :-( On the brightside, we thoroughly enjoyed the first four films. :-)
Someone bust please McTiernan out of Prison so he can show people how to make a good Die Hard movie!
Bruce Willis returns for the fifth time as John McClane, who travels to Moscow and, of all places, Chernobyl, to help his CIA officer son save modern Russia from its own worst enemies.
The quality of a Die Hard film is in direct proportion to the amount of hair on John McClane's head. Fact!
Best I've felt in weeks. Die Hard marathon at the Block in Orange! Let's do it!
So much for Die Hard 5,hhmm-kurang substance, kurang characters n lack of originality of Die Hard films-i would say live free or Die Hard was indeed better
If you disliked Live Free, you have no idea what you're in for. Seriously makes Len Wiseman look like John McTiernan.
Greatest action film of all time 'Die Hard' on Film 4. Bruce and John McTiernan doing the solid Roderick Thorp novel justice. Xp
Ok, so, my head is blowing up a little. Attended a Shakespeare talk earlier, and connected it with some Die Hard. Supposedly, John McTiernan wanted to integrate aspects of Midsummer Night's Dream into the first Die Hard flick. It's a stretch but I can see where it might have come in. Now I have a bunch of ideas for possible novels, adaptations, comics, etc etc that would incorporate Shakespeare. My work has always tipped a hat or homaged something. Now I think I have good enough ideas and just the right amount of confidence to maybe finally try and engage The Bard.
Even though the Die Hard series have gone way past it's bedtime. I still wanna see A Good Day To Die Hard.
TRADE union officials could be jailed for misusing their position or members' funds under a private member's bill put up by Tony Abbott.
So if John Woo and Michael Bay co-directed a movie, would it contain exploding doves? I'd like to think so!
A Cool Trivia Fact About Die Hard (1988): Director John McTiernan found it necessary to smash cut away from Hans Gruber's face whenever he fired a gun, because of Alan Rickman's uncontrollable habit of flinching from the noise and muzzle flash. If you look at Rickman's face when he shoots Takagi, you can see him wincing.
Part 1 of 2 Recorded Via S-VHS transfer. I regret not turning down the brightness, now that I look back on it.
**Question : In the film's "Die Hard" what is the character name played by Bruce wills? 1st 2 people get it right wins a free pass each for valentines silence!
Bruce Willis revisits old school New York City cop John McClane for a fifth time, teaming up with his son in Moscow to battle some evil Russian terrorists, but the results are far from satisfying. It's a depressing time for Action...
I'd love to see Die Hard / Red October / THOMAS CROWN v. 2's John McTiernan come back, but I think he's in jail.
Is it likely we'll ever get another John McTiernan film? It's hard to believe the guy who made Die Hard and Predator isn't still around.
High quality: The movie Predator (1987) is directed by John McTiernan. The music is made by Alan Silvestri.
“You lied to me.” “Nikki,” I hissed. “I am not going to get into a sophomoric banter of emotions. This is not the time to get John Hughes about it, and I’m definitely not going to get Martin Scorcese about it either. I’ll tell you everything, but not right now! I did lie to you, but I had a reason to!” “I had reasons to know! You lied to me! I could had been enjoying this John McTiernan life, or at least a Jan Debont if you just told me!” “I’m trying to keep it from turning Wes Craven and it you don’t get a grip, you’re going to get your rental card revoked!” “What’s wrong with you two?!” Michelle hissed. - From my book I'm never, ever, going to publish.

rollerball is such, such a great film. I can see why John McTiernan held Norman Jewison is such high regard. Massively ahead of its time.
Happy Birthday to David Bowie, John McTiernan, Sarah Polley, Stephen Hawking, and the late Elvis Presley and Graham Chapman.
I didn't know John McTiernan director two of my favourite movies. Die Hard and Thomas Crown Affair. Genius man!
Why is her song in Die Hard 2 trailer? Because Marvin was listening to "Old Cape Cod" when John McTiernan found him.
Film career In 1982, Van Damme and childhood friend, Michel Qissi, moved to America in the hope of becoming action stars. They both were cast as extras in the film, Breakin'. Van Damme also had a non-speaking part as a Secret Service agent who carries a polio-crippled President Franklin Roosevelt (Ralph Bellamy) out of a pool in the 1988 TV miniseries War and Remembrance. After a small part in Missing In Action, Van Damme was next cast in the film No Retreat, No Surrender, as the role of the villain, Ivan the Russian. Van Damme worked for director John McTiernan for the 1987 film Predator as an early (eventually abandoned) version of the titular alien, before being removed and replaced by Kevin Peter Hall.[24] His breakout film was Bloodsport, based on the alleged true story of Frank Dux. Shot on a 1.5 million dollar budget, it became a U.S. box-office hit in the spring of 1988. He then starred in the smaller budgeted film Cyborg. His last role for 1989 was Kurt Sloane in the successful Kickboxer. In this ...
settling down to watch The Hunt For Red October... John McTiernan's very underrated follow up to Die Hard and Predator...
A man like Thomas Crown would never un-sew his jacket pockets. John McTiernan left an homage to Jeb Stuart in the Affair, from Die Hard.

For all you Predator fans: Just got through reading an article about the old Arnol flick, "Predator". Here are four things I bet you didn't know (I sure didn't) about that movie: 1. John Mctiernan was the director. Same director for Die Hard and the Hunt for Red October. 2. Shane Black played Hawkins, the guy with glasses that gets killed early on. He wrote the script for all 4 Lethal Weapons and i...s the director for the upcoming Iron Man 3. 3. Peter Cullen voiced the predator. He's famous for being the voice of Optimus Prime. 4. Jean Claude Van Damme was originally cast as the predator. This floored me. Imagine how much different that movie would have been with a 5'9" (instead of 7'2") martial arts expert as the predator?? He and Arnold could have competed for worse accent.
