John Lennon & Jim Morrison

What is with all my favourite singers all being dead? Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, John Lennon...list goes on
John Lennon passed away on Jim Morrison's birthday.
When Jerry Garcia died, he woke up and found himself on a stage on which a number of instruments were set up. A door offstage opened and in walked Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Brian Jones, John Lennon, Otis Redding and Buddy Holly. Each musician picked up his favorite instrument and began tuning up. Jerry walked up to Jimi and said, "Man, so this is what heaven is like." Jimi looked at him and said, "Heaven? You think this is heaven?" At that moment, Karen Carpenter walked in, took her seat behind the drums, and called out, "Okay guys, 'Close to You.' One, two, three, four!"

Of all the great personalities in music who are no longer with us , who do you wish you had known personally ? I have so many ! Here's a few : Buddy Holly , Elvis , Jim Morrison , Rory Gallagher , John Lennon , Waylon Jennings , Frank Sinatra , Dean Martin , Sammy Davis Jr. , Tim Buckley , Bob Marley , Sam Cooke , Eddie Cochran ,John Denver , Harry Chapin and many many more ! But if I had to pick just one , it would have to be Jim Croce ! Jim was just a great guy . He had a wonderful sense of humor . He was a great songwriter and a real character . He would be my first choice hands down ! Who would you pick ? Are there any of you out there that knew someone famous in the music business ?
I posted this response on someone else's thread but I thought I'd post it again when I decided to share... Freddie Mercury, Elvis, Jim Morrison, John Lennon, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Ray Charles, Johnny Cash and Bob Marley. Plus I'd love to have Terry Kath, John Denver and Tommy Bolin back too even though they're not pictured. In exchange they can take, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Justin Timberlake, Kanye, Britney Spears, and at least two or three dozen of today's "pop, rock, hip hop stars". They can even have American Idol and all it's stars too.
If they can have a hallogram of MJ, they can have one for Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, John Lennon, George Harrison, etc
Wishing to live in an era of John Lennon and Jim Morrison.
Hoping to get a message tonight. Elvis , Princess Di, John Lennon, Jim Morrison not fussy
I've always wanted to do a drawing of a bar where all the people (including the band) are deceased musicians. People like Jimi Hendrix, John Bonham, Phil Lynott, Bon Scott, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Cliff Burton, Dimebag Daryll, Jerry Garcia, Buddy Holly, John Lennon, etc. Just always seemed such a daunting task - trying to decide who would be in the band, who would be patrons, who would be bar staff.
It's either out of Tupac, Jim Morrison, Bob Marley, or John Lennon! For me anyways.
Tough choice between Elvis Jim Morrison and John Lennon but Ill have to go to Elvis

I really wonder how different music would be today if John Lennon, Janis Joplin, Jimmy Hendrix, Jim Morrison, John Bonham, Kurt Cobain, Andrew wood, Layne Staley and all other great influential musicians hadn't died so young. I wonder.
When I think of the list of all my film and music heroes (Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Cash, John Lennon, Kurt Cobain, Ian Curtis, Richey Edwards, Heath Ledger, Marlon Brando, Bon Scott, Marc Bolan, Jim Morrison) it makes me feel sad that these people (through one reason or other, own fault or not) are no longer with us. What fills me with even more despair is the fact that Justin Beiber still exists.

WOW, Just realized that John Lennon died (1980) the same day Jim Morrison was born(1943) MIND BLOWN!
happy birthday to the one & only, the lizard king Jim Morrison. also remembering the ultimate, John Lennon. ❣❣❣
From Salon It was Dec. 8, 1980 and John Lennon was shot in the back outside The Dakota in New York City with four bullets fired from a .38 Special. Lennon lost 80 percent of his blood and was declared dead at 11:15 p.m. — 10:15 p.m. where we were in the Midwest at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. I was in a couple of friends’ dorm room, girls I knew from grade school. The Doors first album was on the turntable. The song playing, "Break On Through." I won’t say canned beer and bong hits were not involved. Dec. 8 is also the birthday of Doors front man Jim Morrison, and that’s what we had gathered that night to celebrate. "No One Here Gets Out Alive," the first biography of Morrison, was published that year and I had just finished reading it. Regarding Jim and The Doors, I was deep in. The RA burst into the room and broke the news. John Lennon, dead. We were stunned. Albums flipped around and the needle came down on "Let It Be." We stood in the cramped room, not knowing what to say or ...

Elvis, John Lennon and Jim Morrison walk into a bar. In, like, heaven, or whatever. They're having an argument about who was the better singer. So
Alice Cooper was off the hook last night at the Emerald Queen Casino. He said a big, "Hello Hooray," to a packed out showroom to start off the evening. With pyro technics included. He would whip out a sword full of money as he sang, "Billion Dollar Babies." He would throw necklaces of diamonds to the song, "Dirty Diamonds," Jason and Frankenstein would pay everybody a visit in a big way as Alice would unleash his stage theatrics to the audience in attendance to the songs, He's Back (Man Behind The Mask), and Feed My Frankenstein. Everybody was wowed at what came out. Including me. The guillotine would make an appearance as Alice would loose his head for his crimes of escaping out of his straight jacket and strangling the nurse during, "The Ballad Of Dwight Fry." He would pay tribute to Jim Morrison, John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, and Keith Moon in songs they had written and performed. He would bring the show to a close with his anthemic song, "Schools Out" with bubbles, big balloons, and confetti included. A ...

I wish I could play guitar like Jimmi Paige or bang drums like Nikki Sixx or even sing like Jim Morrison or John Lennon
Thinking of todays date, 43 years ago Jimi (James Marshall) Hendrix was laid to rest at the young age of 27. I started listening to his music at age 14 and grew to love his work, especially his cover of Bob Dylans, "All Along the Watchtower" A sad loss to the music world. But then I began to think of all the other musicians that have left us all too soon. Those I favor include, John Lennon, Janis Joplin, Jim Croce, Frank Zappa, Dan Fogelberg, Jim Morrison, Jerry Garcia, Mama Cass Elliot, and of recent, Layne Staley and Amy Winehouse. I honestly admit, my love of music and the loss of these talented artists brings tears to my eyes. Oooops, did I reveal too much about me? RIP to all of those, and Long Live Rock!

Today, in the history of Rock and Roll, September 20th: 1947: Styx bassist Chuck Panozzo is born in Chicago. 1969: Frustrated by what he sees as a lack of artistic fulfillment, John Lennon announces privately to the rest of the Beatles that he will be leaving the band. The announcement, which comes at one of several grueling financial meetings designed to untangle the band's mismanaged assets, comes abruptly and takes everyone by surprise: when Paul announces that the band should go out on tour anonymously, playing small clubs to get back the feel of band unity, Lennon declares "I think you’re daft. I want a divorce." The band realizes they cannot go on without him, but agrees to delay the announcement until after the release of the Let It Be soundtrack -- an agreement Paul will break. On the same day, ATV (Associated Television) of Britain buys up controlling interest in the Beatles' songwriting catalog. 1970: In Miami, Jim Morrison of the Doors is sentenced to six months hard labor and a fine of $500 ...

" Let freedom reign. The sun never sets on so glorious a human achievement ' The most inspirational leader of the 21st century. RIP Nelson and thank you. Riko
Jul 3, 1969: Brian Jones & Jim Morrison die, two years apart to the day. Rolling Stones guitarist Brian Jones is found dead of an apparent accidental drowning on this day in 1969. Two years later to the day, in 1971, Jim Morrison dies of heart failure in a Paris bathtub. For all the highly publicized brushes with the law that *** Jagger and Keith Richards would have in the late 1960s, it was the original leader of the Rolling Stones, Brian Jones, who was the group's original bad boy—who lived, in the words of Pete Townshend, "on a higher planet of decadence than anyone I would ever meet." A gifted musician, Jones helped create the sound of countless classic Stones tracks with his work on guitar, sitar, marimba and other instruments that were then considered exotic for rock and roll. But he also helped create the stereotype of the wasted rock star with his prodigious drug habit and his declining ability to contribute to the Stones' recordings. "At first Brian was the most interesting Stone," John Lennon ...

One thing I realize with today's society is that even more than my generation, today's generation believes in the illuminati. Aka evil people who want the voices of those who love and care for humanity to be silenced. Do I believe it? Well it's a fact that the "illuminati" existed from 1776 til 1798. Here's a long list of those supposedly "silenced" by the illuminati: tupac Shakur, John Lennon, Michael Jackson, bill cooper (predicted 9/11), mohandas ghandi, yhitzak Rabin, Peter tosh, Indira Ghandi, Rajiv Ghandi, Diana princess of wales, JFK Jr, John F. Pegasus has the day off (thanks for pointing that out, Valerie!) but we're gonna ask you to join us in taking a moment or two to remember those who have gone before: family, friends, vets. Without them we would not be who we are today. We're also gonna remember members of the music family who have so contributed to our lives and whose songs we play today. I'm gonna list some who have passed before us, and feel free (because you can feel free) to add those of your own. Here we go off the top of my head: Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, John Lennon, George Harrison, Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek, Jim Croce, Harry Chapin, Brian Jones, Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, the Big Bopper, Elvis, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, June Carter Cash, Ronnie Van Zandt, Duane Allman, John Denver, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. As Jimi said, "I won't see ya again in this world...see you in the next one. Don't be late. Don't be late." Love you all.

Week 3 Discussion: Charismatic Leadership written by David Charles Kramer In the past and present, charismatic leaders have risen in politics, entertainment, and of course in businesses throughout the world. With such a variety of charismatic leaders, we can study attributes and common traits of people that differ greatly from each other. Perhaps charisma is one of the only common denominators when we speak of names such as Bill Clinton, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, and Warren Buffett, and compare them to leaders of different mediums such as musical leaders. Such leaders in music have risen with the fame of individuals such as Kurt Cobain, Elvis Presley, Paul Mccartney, John Lennon, and Jim Morrison. Charisma is a leader trait that results in effects on followers. Both positive and negative effects can occur from charisma. Not all charismatic leaders have been great role models. Kurt Cobain’s drug abuse and suicide left Nirvana’s followers sad, ashamed, mad, and without a leader. Cobain’s influenc ...
Johnny Cash, John Lennon, Joey Ramone, Dee Dee Ramone, Freddie Mercury, Ronnie James Dio, Elvis Presley, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Joe Strummer & the list goez on. Though they are gone their music will alwayz live in the hearts of thoze of us who were inspired by them. To all my brothers & sisters in the music scene, play every song, every set, no matter who the crowd be or what the circumstances, like it iz the greatest honor you have been given. Though we all come & go the music will alwayz remain.
Channeling is done in various means, it can be done through artwork even music. Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones stated, “The Stones” songs came spontaneously like an inspiration at a séance. The tunes arrived ‘en masse’ with the Stones being songwriters needed to only be willing and open mediums. Yoko Ono has said of the Beatles, “They were like mediums, They weren’t conscious of all they were saying, but it was coming through them. Lennon claimed that at times his musical inspiration was “like being possessed; like a psychic or a medium.” He also stated, “But my joy is when you’re like possessed, like a medium, you know. I’ll be sitting around and it will come in the middle of night ... I’m just sitting here and the whole [expletive] song comes out ”(John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Andy Peebles, The Last Lennon Tape, 1981, p 113.) Jim Morrison called the spirits that at times possessed him for his inspiration “The Lords,” and even wrote a book of poetry on them. Folk rock arti ...

Taking a poll on who to draw: John Lennon, Jim Morrison, Stevie Wonder, or Micky Dolenz? (weird group I know) Help me choose...
Freddie Mercury, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Jon Bon Jovi, John Lennon, Jim Morrison, Axl Rose. Love all of you so much.
The Seattle grunge scene that transformed rock in the '90s produced four great voices, but the most distinct among them belonged to Alice in Chains' Layne Staley. Nirvana's Kurt Cobain deeply understood musical dynamics and could simultaneously scream and sing a melody in a way that few others could—think of John Lennon's searing lead vocal performance on "Twist and Shout." Soundgarden's Chris Cornell wailed and hit high notes, putting him at times in Robert Plant or Freddie Mercury territory. Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder combined a Jim Morrison-style natural baritone range with other punk and rock influences. But Staley sounded like no one else. His ability to project power and vulnerability in his vocals, as well as the unique and complementary harmonies he created when singing with Alice in Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell, made for a style that would get copied for years after Alice in Chains became a household name.
John Lennon and Jim Morrison are the two most philosophically influential forces on my life
As we all know, yesterday was the anniversary of a few celebrity musician deaths - John Lennon, Jim Morrison, and Dimebag Darrell. But please, enough with the "RIP TO THE BEST MUSICIAN EVER (insert one of the three names from above). They were all highly overrated musicians offering no progression towards music whatsoever (please don't bring up the innovative comments, they're about as innovative as the person who discovered the idea for a fork). In fact, it's a shame their music careers didn't end sooner. Especially Dimebag's career. Thanks for ruining metal! - Lint Jams
December 8th, you gave us Jean Sibelius and Jim Morrison. You also took John Lennon and Dimebag Darrell, so we'll just call it a draw ok?
Today's birthdays: Jim Morrison, Gregg Allman, and Sam Kinison. Also the anniversary of John Lennon's death.
Today is the death day of John Lennon & Dimebag but also the birthday of Jim Morrison & Corey Taylor. Long live ART. ♥ OTEP
MATT STOCKS - So, today is a signifcant day in rock for several reasons. Happy birthday Corey Taylor first up. You the man! Today would have also been Jim Morrison's birthday, and it also marks the anniversary of Dimebag, Razzle and John Lennon's deaths. Some great music coming up in tribute to some great artists!
John Lennon: An Appreciation Preface: Imagine Paul singing, to the tune of Sgt. Peppers, "It was 32 years ago, today/ They murdered the best who ever was, to play..." There is not much new left to be said about John Lennon. Suffice it to say that, for me, he is the greatest single figure in pop Music History. Murdered at age 40, just as he was undergoing a renaissance of creativity that surely would have carried him through middle age with vitality and dignity, the loss of his art to humanity is incalculable. I’m not exaggerating when I state that this sentiment is shared by millions. Go to Youtube, watch his videos, and read the comments. People are still genuinely angry, hurt, and saddened over his death. No other musician who died prematurely, including giants like Otis Redding, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain, even Jimi Hendrix and Charlie Parker; none of them have managed to stay in the mind of popular consciousness like the figure of John Lennon. Perhaps it is the fact that he was assassinated, while th ...
Happy birthday to Sinead O'Connor (along with Jim Morrison, Gregg Allman and Ingrid Michaelson). First 14 years of her life it was just another day and not the date in which John Lennon died. Just played from her album I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got. The album that was on the 1990 XRT Listener Poll. Make your vote count for 2012: htttp://93XRT.com
Happy birthday to two of the most awesome frontmen in history of music!! Jim Morrison and Corey Taylor!! Also rest in peace Dimebag Darrell and John Lennon
December 8 is an important day in Music History. Jimmy Smith, Jim Morrison, Gregg Allman and Sinead O'Connor are some of the musical figures who celebrate, or would celebrate, birthdays tomorrow. In 1980, John Lennon was murdered on December 8. Celebrate December 8th and 17 years of Turn It Up! with 20% store-wide tomorrow! And don't forget to like our post from yesterday to have a chance to win a $50 gift card.
As noted, BTE’s ultimate focus is on James Douglas Morrison, the real human being, as opposed to Jim Morrison, the mythic rock star. Still, we'll certainly address Jim’s place in the artistic pantheon. He’s obviously aligned with the greats. But back in the 1960s, musicians didn’t tend to openly discuss each other's work. This may have been due to competition, as well as the fact that they didn't have access to social media like we do today. So, for instance, we don't see many instances of Jim’s specific opinion of John Lennon, or Bob Dylan, or vice versa. What do you think Jim’s rock peers [Lennon, Dylan, Hendrix, Joplin, Jagger, etc] thought of him as a poet and vocalist/lyricist? [We mean as opposed to their personal opinion of him in general. Case in point: the provincial Lou Reed relating to Melody Maker how "dumb" he thought Jim "that silly Los Angeles person" was is not what we're after.] Can you cite any specific references? If you do and we utilize your shared information in our docum ...

"I don't appreciate the worship of dead Sid Vicious or of dead James Dean or dead John Wayne. It's the same thing. Making Sid Vicious a hero, Jim Morrison - it's garbage to me. I worship the people who survive - Gloria Swanson, Greta Garbo. They're saying John Wayne conquered cancer - he whipped it like a man. You know, I'm sorry that he died and all that - I'm sorry for his family - but he didn't whip cancer. It whipped him. I don't want Sean worshipping John Wayne or Johnny Rotten or Sid Vicious. What do they teach you? Nothing. Death. Sid Vicious died for what? So that we might rock? I mean, it's garbage you know. If Neil Young admires that sentiment so much, why doesn't he do it? Because he sure as *** faded away and came back many times, like all of us. No, thank you. I'll take the living and the healthy." (John Lennon, Playboy Interview, 1980)

I am watching how our CIA was hypnotizing people, and turning them into Manchurian agents or assassins as far back as 1955. Through this process, people were completely oblivious to their other personality. They said it could even stand up to interrogation, because the main personality is unaware of the dormant personality that the CIA could call forward at any time. So, let's go forward, and see how it was used. John F. Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., George Wallace (Nixon's opponent in 1968 primaries), Malcom X, John Lennon, Gabby Giffords, the Colorado Theater. If you can make someone kill someone else, you can certainly make them kill themselves, Janis Joplin, Jimmy Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, John Bonham, Keith Moon, Brian Jones. The influential music that teaches the world to think for itself instead of accepting the myths of reality the Republicans push on us appears to be a threat to the most criminal organization the world has ever seen, ...

If I Were Grand Poo-Baw... In politics during the elections you would vote between 2 Pro Wrestlers to become President of the U.S.A./Heavyweight Champion of the world, the debates would be held at Wrestlemanias in a steel cage match. All wars would be fought with paintball, N.E.R.F., and waters guns. The A-bomb was instead the F-bomb, where everyone in the blast radius stripped down and started shagging immediately. The band being played on every radio station would consist of Jim Morrison, John Lennon, Jimmi Hendrix, and Kieth Moon. Instead of Gasoline, all motorized vehicles would run off of Prairie Farms chocolate milk (from the glass bottle). Pitbulls are born with rubber teeth. The cure for AIDS and cancer turned out to be a 24 oz Medium-rare T-bone steak. And last but not least,Never ever has a female farted, pooped, or been a raging B*tch.

Some guy at the bar last night trying to preach the gospel of dubstep to me, actually implying that Skrillex is superior to John Lennon, and that Deadmau5 I'd the savior of modern music, as prophesied by Jim Morrison. Because, obviously.

I just came from a most enjoyable evening with Henry Diltz, the legendary rock photographer at the Annenberg Photography Museum in LA. He photographed every act he wanted to in the 60s and 70s except The Beatles and John Lennon. He photographed Paul, George and Ringo. Linda hired him to to shoot the album cover of her album with Paul - for she had to be in the picture and could not take the picture herself. He also got a very intimate portrait of Paul holding Stella when she was about 2 years old. Henry developed a closer relationship to his subjects than other photographers for he is a musician. They see him as a musician friend they hang out smoke dope with, rather than a photographer. He says he smoked dope with all his sitters except Donny Osmond and Michael Nesmith (sic)(The Monkees). Musicians were very comfortable with him. Some of his best pictures were of the New Barbarians. He caught Keith Richards and Ron Wood intimating *** Jagger wearing big red plastic lips. A special thanks to Al ...

Imagine having a party and John Lennon, Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones, Ringo Starr, Jim Morrison, and *** Jagger were all invited..thatd be cool
Oh, yeah. Mouse-John Lennon. Now, to find a chiseled woman to be Jim Morrison.
I am enjoying reading Barry Miles biography of Paul Mccartney -"many years from now" ( I read a biography of John Lennon last year and Keith Richards book last year as well). The year before that the Warren Zevon biography "I'll sleep when I am dead" . I have the Jim Morrison book yet unread (purchased used from the Ann Arbor library) . Obviously the rock music icon genre interests me. This McCartney book is going slow due to the fact that he gives the complete backpground on every Beatle song thus prompting me to retreat to the family/music/TV room and start bangin out this or that Beatle tune on the piano or guitar. Obviously I don't need much suggestion.
Thank you Patrick Carney for hooking us up with these amazing rock n roll portraits... we got Jim Morrison and John Lennon... they are from 2008. If you are interested in checking them out come to the gallery when you are ready.
met the MEDICINE MAN last night, not a medicine man but the medicineman, the one in the new incredible revolutionary anti-war peace band. he said he met John Lennon in´68, and The Doors and Jim Morrison in 75, and Arnie Schwarzenegger in 1992 in California because hes old, man, like 168 years old...

Just had the best visit with Marty this weekend who took me to see the "Heavenly J's" in our little opera house downtown. OMG !! It's a tribute band to all the great musicians from the 60's & 70's who have since passed and whose name begins with a "J". So, we got to "hear" and "see" Jerry Garcia, John Lennon, Janis Jopln, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Johnny Cash, June Carter Cash, John Denver, Jim Croce and James Brown all perform some of their greatest hits. They did a superb job with looks, voice and personalities. What an awesome blast from the past with a very dear friend!!
In a hotel room, Jim Morrison is in one corner with the rest of his band; in another corner are John Lennon, Paul Mccartney, George Harrison and Ringo Star - all are naked. Monica Lewinsky walks in, squats seductively in front of Jim Morrison and begins to play the pink oboe. She gives him the presidential treatment then moves on to his guitarist, bassist, then his drummer and the keyboard player. When she's finished, she licks her lips and wanders over to John Lennon and begins to do the same to him. At that moment, there's a huge crash and Michael Caine smashes through a wall in a Mini-Cooper. He jumps out, grabs her by the scruff of the neck and shouts scroll down wait for it "Oi, you're only supposed to blow the bloody Doors off!""

Hey, world. Stevie Nicks is good, but she's not John Lennon. She's like a lady Jim Morrison. She's not a rock prophet.

ENTERTAINMENT: In 30 years of running Sunset Boulevard hot spots, Mario Maglieri has seen Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin and many others destroyed by life's vices. But he is a survivor. In a place known for its shimmering excesses and non-stop partying, Mario Maglieri is an anomaly --- a silver-haired father figure who, at 70, maintains order amid the chaos of the Sunset Strip. Maglieri works from sunset to sunrise, keeping watch in West Hollywood over his glittery corner of the famous boulevard. After 30 years as a proprietor of the Whisky, the Roxy and the Rainbow Bar & Grill - - - clubs considered the cradle for rock giants such as the Doors, David Bowie and Janis Joplin - - - Maglieri has seen it all. He bought Joplin a bottle of Southern Comfort three days before she overdosed. He discussed world politics with John Lennon in the parking lot of the Roxy. And he lectured Jim Morrison about using too many drugs. Some of the people around him were destroyed by life's vices, but Maglieri has survived. Perhaps ...
