Roberto Martínez's grand designs forEverton include spending a £20m-plus transfer kitty this summer and a revamp of the club's training complex. The Everton manager wants to increase the number of hours players spend in training by building overnight accommodation at Finch Farm. Signing Romelu Lukaku on a permanent basis from Chelsea and a return to Goodison Park for Jack Rodwell are on Martínez's transfer agenda, too, although he concedes targets will be influenced by Champions League qualification. The Everton manager has sold £40m-worth of players since his arrival from Wigan AthleticMarouane Fellaini, Nikica Jelavic and Victor Anichebe – and also removed John Heitinga's lucrative salary from the wage bill. Almost half has been reinvested on James McCarthy, Arouna Koné and Aiden McGeady and Martínez admits he deliberately did not spend heavily in January to protect this summer's transfer budget. It is plans for the Finch Farm training ground that illustrate the manager's meticulous attenti ...
Gerrard keeps it classy and Webb is weaving a reputation for being a bottler Ralph Ellis runs you through what we learned from the weekend's football. This week includes Howard Webb missing a fourth blatant penalty and Steven Gerrard resisting winding up United fans . 1. If Howard Webb was being judged on current form he’d be dropped as England’s World Cup referee. Bottledit! Howard Webb failed to award a penalty for Newcastle after Jonny Heitinga handled on the line The FA’s man for Brazil dropped another clanger at Fulham, missing a blatant injury time penalty when John Heitinga clearly blocked Tim Krul’s goalbound shot with his outstretched arm. It’s at least the fourth blatant spot kick Webb has failed to give this season, and he’s also developing a reputation for ducking big late decisions. Of the 11 penalties he has awarded in the final 30 minutes of games during the last four seasons, only one of them was given when either the scores were level or there was only one goal separating the ...
From Clubcall Cottagers star linked Newcastle United, Last updated: February 27, 2014 2:24 PM Newcastle are reportedly set to pounce for defender John Heitinga this summer if Fulham are relegated from the Premier League. Cottagers star linked The Cottagers only signed the 30-year-old Dutch stopper on a six-month deal in January following his release from Premier League rivals Everton. But with the Londoners now struggling at the foot of the table and four points adrift of safety with only 11 games remaining, the vultures are already circling. It appears Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has already expressed a desire to take Heitinga to St James' Park to bolster his side's defensive options at the end of the season, while Turkish side Galatasaray have also been heavily linked
Journeyman Hersi smiling Down Under ( Tuesday 25 February 2014 Share The list reads like a who’s who of modern Dutch football: Rafael van der Vaart, Maarten Stekelenburg, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Arjen Robben and John Heitinga. The players were all members of the Netherlands’ FIFA U-20 World Cup campaign in Argentina, where the coveted No10 jersey was worn by Youssouf Hersi. The Ethiopian-born, Dutch-raised wide midfielder played all five matches at Argentina 2001 but, unlike many of his former Jong Oranje team-mates, Hersi’s domestic career has been a mixed experience involving nine different clubs. However, the 31-year-old seems to have found a new lease of life at in-fashion A-League club Western Sydney Wanderers. Long and winding road Born in Dire Dawa, Ethiopia, Hersi’s family departed Africa when he was five years old. Not for the last time, Hersi’s life experience was about to turn full circle. (A good read) The best referee in the country? The stats on Liverpool FC and Howard Webb Kristian Walsh examines just how detrimental Howard Webb has been to Liverpool FC, and why that may be. A picture can tell a thousand words, but so can the front of Monday's Liverpool Echo. “The best ref in the country?” it asks of Howard Webb, in a far more reasoned and family-friendly manner as those who witnessed it live, faces still reddened and flush. When the Yorkshireman declined to give a second penalty to the Reds in the space of five minutes, a seething rage built within Reds everywhere. Maybe it was less clear cut than it seemed, they thought; perhaps Luis Suarez stumbled, or the coming together was unavoidable, or some other rational explanation can be given for how the Uruguayan ended up sprawled on the turf. No such luck. Television replays made it even more evident – Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain barged into Suarez and sent him spinning. Webb had got the previous decision - awarding a penalty for Lukas ...

Media watch After the pomp and panache of the weekend, this was Liverpool winning ugly. Brendan Rodgers would argue beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Steven Gerrard scored a last-minute penalty as Liverpool displayed their powers of recovery to leave Fulham nothing to show for their spirited endeavours and rooted to the bottom of the table. Liverpool were given a scare on the banks of the Thames. Their momentum was not derailed by the threat of a Tube strike, but by themselves. Fulham had scored twice thanks to the good fortune they received with Kolo Toure guilty of a comical own-goal and Martin Skrtel then culpable for the mistake that made it 2-1. Liverpool twice came from behind, Daniel Sturridge equalling a club record by scoring for an eighth game in a row and Philippe Coutinho scoring with a deflected effort after 72 minutes. The manner in which Liverpool repeatedly pummelled Arsenal into submission had resonated throughout the Premier League, but Rodgers would have attached as much significanc ...

Arsenal, United draw; Reds, Spurs win 13 February 2014, 00:09 Arsenal missed the change to go top of the Premier League as Liverpool moved to within four points of the summit on Wednesday ahead of their FA Cup clash with the Gunners. Arsene Wenger's men were held to a goalless draw at home to champions Manchester United while Liverpool had to twice come from behind before Steven Gerrard's stoppage-time penalty sealed a 3-2 win away to bottom-of-the table Fulham. Arsenal were left a point behind leaders Chelsea on a night when title rivals Manchester City saw their match at home to Sunderland postponed because of severe weather battering the north- west of England that also saw Everton's game against Crystal Palace called off. And the draw did little for United's fading hopes of claiming a Champions League place, with David Moyes's side now 11 points adrift of the top four. Tottenham Hotspur, who looked as if they would move to within a point of fourth-placed Liverpool, remained three behind the Merseyside ...

Final score at Old Trafford: Manchester United 2-2 Fulham. Starting with a complete different team than we've ever played with and debuts for John Heitinga and Ryan Tunnicliffe we didn't expect much from this match but we were just hoping for a good performance! After a great counter attack and a sublime pass from Lewis Holtby, Steve Sidwell gave us the lead with 19 minutes played. Great start of the match.. Unfortunately we conceded two goals after 78 minutes and it looked like we wouldn't get any result again.. until Darren Bent scored a header in stoppage time! Finally the luck is on our site in the last minute.. Well done boys! Keep the faith!! Next up on Wednesday: Liverpool at the Cottage! COYW

MATCH REPORT : Man Utd VS FULHAM HAS JUST BEEN PUBLISHED VIA UNPLUGGED SPORTS Half-time substitute Bent headed in during the fourth minute of added time as United's comeback, led by late goals from Robin van Persie and Michael Carrick, was ultimately denied.Fulham – who sit bottom of the Premier League table and had lost their last 11 trips to Old Trafford – claimed a shock lead in the 19th minute through Steve Sidwell. VIEW FROM Old Trafford By Peter StauntonWell, Manchester United thought they had got away with it. Despite dominating the territory and the possession stats, they were justifiably pegged back as the league's bottom-dwellers came away with a share of the spoils.Darren Bent's late goal was as unexpected as it was deserved. Fulham's defensive fragility threatened to undo 75 minutes of hard work as they capitulated, giving United two goals they scarcely deserved.More questions for David Moyes who will be asked why the champions cannot close out a home match against the worst side in the di ...
82' Looks like John Heitinga (Fulham) is struggling after picking up a knock. We will see if he can run that off. 81' Substitution. Larnell Cole (Fulham) has come on for William Kvist (Fulham). 80' The ball rebounds and arrives at the feet of Michael Carrick (Manchester United) just outside the box. He doesn't think twice and fires a projectile into the top left corner. His attempt was beyond the reach of Maarten Stekelenburg (Fulham), so the score changes to 2:1. 79' Robin van Persie (Manchester United) connects with a pass inside the box and slams home, inside the left post. The goalkeeper was helpless. 78' Wayne Rooney (Manchester United) came with a sweet piledriver. He controlled a pass, glanced at the goal and fired from the edge of the box. It could have been a difficult one for the keeper, but he only hit one of the defenders off whom the ball bounced away. 77' Antonio Valencia (Manchester United) unleashed a powerful shot that was blocked by a self-sacrificing defender. 77' Wayne Rooney (Manchest ...

Manchester United - Fulham Preview: Meulensteen returns to Old Trafford with struggling Cottagers The reigning champions lost their eighth game in the Premier League this term at Stoke City last Saturday, and will be looking to get back to winning ways against the west Londoners, who are rooted to the foot of the table. David Moyes' men currently sit in seventh place and their latest setback leaves them trailing fourth-placed Liverpool by seven points with 14 top-flight matches remaining. In the latest development of an eventful for season at helm for Moyes, Nemanja Vidic this week revealed he will leave the club at the end of the season. Vidic returns from suspension this weekend as United strive to avoid a defeat that would equal the most games they have lost in a single Premier League campaign, and leave their hopes of qualifying for Europe's elite competition via league position in further doubt. ste Everton, meanwhile, are keen on bringing in Swansea City defender Chico Flores according to new reports today. It appears likely that the Spaniard could be on his way out of the Liberty Stadium exit after falling out with team-mate Garry Monk, who has now taken over as Swansea City boss. The 26-year-old could be tempted by a move to Goodison Park where Roberto Martinez may see the centre-back as a long term replacement for veteran Syvlain Distin. Everton are reportedly monitoring Sporting Braga playmaker Rafael Silva. According to the Portuguese sports newspaper Record a number of European sides are showing an interest in the 20-year-old midfielder who has impressed since joining the Primeira Liga side in June 2013, having scored six times in 20 appearances. Everton loan star Gerard Deulofeu is linked with a summer swoop by Arsenal. The 19-year-old is on a season-long loan deal at Everton, and despite injury, has impressed in his time at Goodison Park. Premier League Previews – Fixtures, team news (all times GMT) Liverpool v Arsenal; Saturday February 8; Anfield, 12.45pm Steven Gerrard is one of the Premier League’s eternal flames. Always an exciting player to watch, he’s still firing long shots, pinging Hollywood passes and nodding in bullet headers. If anything, his hairline appears to be descending ever forwards rather than receding back. Yet while he looks a picture of youth, Gerrard turns 34 this year, and now plays a more defensive midfield role for Liverpool. How successful this has been is a divisive topic. He has the skill and strength to play the part. Whether he still has the mobility is another matter. Brendan Rogers also sets his team up to play short, swift, intricate passes. The raking – sometimes exquisite, occasionally wayward – passes of Gerrard can appear incongruous. It’s just one intriguing subplot to this clash with Arsenal, as Arsene Wenger’s troupe of busy, swarming, mostly tiny midfielders are the kind of footballe ...
Fulham v Sheffield Utd February 3, 2014 International, International, International, International Fulham will look to make the most of their second chance when they take on Sheffield United in an FA Cup fourth-round replay on Tuesday. The Cottagers managed to salvage a draw at Bramall Lane against the 10 men of United, and will be desperate to advance at the expense of their League One opponents. Rene Meulensteen’s side head into the clash in terrible form, however, having scored just once in their last four outings, all of which have ended in either a draw or defeat. The former Manchester United assistant coach made a number of moves in the January transfer window, bringing in Konstantinos Mitroglou, Larnell Cole, Lewis Holtby, Ryan Tunnicliffe, William Kvist and John Heitinga, although none of the new arrivals are eligible for the replay as they were not registered with the club before the original tie. SIGH… Another failure to hold on to a lead. Another game where the opposition has had THREE times our possession. Another game where we've been comprehensively outplayed – another game where, had we won, we'd be naïvely kidding ourselves we were something special. In the whole of January, Villa have signed a half-decent left-back who can't get near Chelsea's 1st XI – and a past-his-best striker who can't get near Wigan's 1st XI and doesn't seem to fit into Villa's winger/flanking-striker system at all. Yesterday alone, teams below us signed Scott Dann, Lewis Holtby, Joe Ledley, Konstantinos Mitroglou, Tom Ince, Wilfried Zaha and John Heitinga. None of the above may set the world alight, but all are players I'd have welcomed into our current setup with open arms (especially the latter three) – and all of them would add more to Villa's side than Grant Holt will. RANT OVER… until Paul Lambert's inevitably themed “we played well but we were so unlucky” post-match press conference, that is.

Dani Osvaldo's ill-fated five- month stay at Southampton is over at least for now, with the Saints' club-record signing joining Juventus on loan with a view to a permanent move. Everton v Spurs, 13:30 Sixth in the table travel to seventh in this game and with the draw for Southampton at Stoke it represents a chance for one of these two to make the jump into the top four, and potentially as high as second in the league. Spurs will believe they can come away with the win but be very aware at the same time of the threat Everton will pose, and for that reason we could get a bit of a cagey opening twenty minutes where the teams feel each other out. You can get 10/1 with BoyleSports on this ending goalless, but there is enough quality on show to make that less-than-certain. Arouna Kone's will not face Tottenham but John Heitinga is fit again, meaning only Kone, Antolin Alcaraz and Darron Gibson are unavailable for the home side. Spurs will welcome back a host of first-team regulars, but Danny Rose remains sidelined and Kyle Naughton is rated 50-50.
Tottenham face the challenge of winning at Goodison Park for the first time in seven attempts when they meet Everton on Sunday. The north London club have been beaten on their last three visits to Everton, who head into this fixture having picked up 28 points from their last 10 Premier League matches on home soil. Both teams have won their previous two league games and Tottenham can also take confidence from a run of five successive away wins and clean sheets in all competitions. Andre Villas-Boas' men have only conceded one goal on their travels this season, in a 1-0 defeat to rivals Arsenal at the beginning of September. Everton boss Roberto Martinez is able to welcome back John Heitinga, but Antolin Alcaraz is not yet match fit and Darron Gibson (knee) remains a long-term absentee. Arouna Kone has joined Gibson on the sidelines with a knee problem of his own and, while expressing optimism over the progress of Alcaraz, Martinez has admitted to concerns over the Ivorian striker. "I'm convinced that Antol ...
Saturday's Premier League matches Newcastle v Chelsea We say: Away win Newcastle skipper Fabricio Coloccini is unlikely to make it as he continues his recovery from injury. The Argentina international is back in training after a groin problem but has no football under his belt, while fellow central defender Steven Taylor, who suffered a recurrence of a hamstring injury in training last week, is still some way from returning. Left-back Paul Dummett, who partnered Mike Williamson in the 2-1 defeat at Sunderland last weekend, is also out with a hamstring strain, meaning Williamson and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa are likely to pair up, as they did in midweek for the Capital One Cup tie against Manchester City. Jose Mourinho is poised to recall a host of first-team players. The Blues boss made 10 changes for the midweek Capital One Cup win at Arsenal so the likes of Petr Cech, John Terry, Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard, Eden Hazard, Oscar and Fernando Torres are set to return. Mourinho reported no new injury concerns so Mar ...
EVERTON TEAM NEWS: Striker Arouna Kone is ruled out of Sunday's visit of Tottenham with a knee injury which is giving Everton manager Roberto Martinez some cause for concern. Defender John Heitinga returns to the squad after sitting out the last two matches with a muscle problem. Fellow centre-back Antolin Alcaraz is recovering well from a hernia injury and is expected to make his debut later this month while midfielder Darron Gibson (knee) is the only other absentee. PROVISIONAL SQUAD: Howard, Coleman, Jagielka, Distin, Baines, Mirallas, McCarthy, Barry, Pienaar, Barkley, Lukaku, Robles, Heitinga, Oviedo, Stones, Naismith, Osman, Jelavic, Deulofeu.

Netherlands - Italy Preview: Oranje aiming for first-ever friendly win over Azzurri The World Cup finalists of 2010 have never emerged victorious at the end of a non-competitive tie against the surprise package of last year's European Championship Netherlands coach Louis Van Gaal will have to make do without the services of players such as Michel Vorm, Nigel de Jong, Erik Pieters and Luciano Narsingh due to injury. Additionally, experienced players like Maarten Stekelenburg, John Heitinga, Rafael van der Vaart, Wesley Sneijder and Arjen Robben were all left out for various reasons. Van Gaal is therefore expected to field a relatively inexperienced starting XI, with Daley Blind and Ola John set to make their Oranje debuts from the off. Aston Villa blew a chance to boost their fight to avoid relegation as Everton came from two goals down to draw 3-3 thanks to Marouane Fellaini's double at Goodison Park on Saturday. Paul Lambert's Villa were on course for just their fifth Premier League win of the season when they led 3-1 with 68 minutes gone. Christian Benteke had given Villa the early lead and although Victor Anichebe equalised, it was the visitors who regained control through Gabriel Agbonlahor and Benteke. But Belgium international Fellaini underlined his reputation as one of the division's most dangerous midfielders with a brace including the equaliser three minutes into stoppage-time. It was a huge blow to second bottom Villa, who since their last league win at Liverpool seven weeks ago have now picked up just three points, and they lie six points from safety. Villa made the perfect start in the second minute Benteke went past John Heitinga to slide a shot across Tim Howard from Charles N'Zogbia's pass. Anichebe was again preferred ...
Marouane Fellaini struck twice late on as Everton fought back to hold Aston Villa to a 3-3 draw in a thrilling Premier League clash at Goodison Park. Christian Benteke's early opener was cancelled out by Victor Anichebe, only for Gabriel Agbonlahor to put Villa back in front in a thrilling first half. Benteke grabbed his second of the game to give Villa a 3-1 lead, but his fellow Belgian Fellaini had the last laugh with two goals, his second three minutes into injury time, to salvage a point for David Moyes' men. Aston Villa dropped into the relegation zone following a midweek loss to Newcastle but there were positives in their second-half performance and Paul Lambert's side made the perfect start at Goodison Park as Benteke latched on to a Charles N'Zogbia pass and shrugged off the challenge of John Heitinga to open the scoring with a neat finish after just two minutes. Fellaini missed a chance to equalise moments later as he curled a shot narrowly wide from the edge of the area, while Darron Gibson had ...
GOAL Everton 2-1 West Brom (65 mins). Shane Long takes advantage of some hesitant defending from John Heitinga to head in.
GOAL. Everton 2-1 West Brom. The sub makes an instant impact and it's one John Heitinga won't want to see again. Romelu Lukaku rounded Tim Howard out wide only to scuff his centre across the box. The Dutchman's clearance lacked conviction however and allowed Long to head into an unguarded net. Better news though - Darron Gibson has just come on to make his comeback from injury. The Irishman replaces Kevin Mirallas.

It has proved lucky as well – in our last two FA Cup-winning campaigns of 1984 and 1995 we also played on this day, as well as reaching the final in 1989. The Toffees have not lost any of their six away ties on this date. Lets make sure it stays that way!!! caz

Football - Premier League Chelsea end Everton's unbeaten home record Premier League, Goodison Park – Everton 1 (Pienaar 2) Chelsea 2 (Lampard 42, 72) A Frank Lampard brace saw Chelsea end Everton’s unbeaten home record with a 2-1 Premier League win at Goodison Park. Everton scored for the 17th Premier League game in succession as early as the second minute through Steven Pienaar, but Lampard was on hand to restore parity with a powerful header just before half-time. The Toffees, who had been unbeaten in seven games and at home in the league all season, suffered the killer blow in the 72nd minute as Lampard netted his second of the afternoon to stretch Rafael Benitez’s side’s winning run in all competitions to four games. Benitez made three changes from the Boxing Day win at Norwich with Ramires, Lampard and Eden Hazard restored to the starting line-up, while Everton boss David Moyes made two changes from the win over Wigan with John Heitinga and Steven Naismith coming in for the injured Phil Nevil ...

Everton are poised to re-sign Joleon Lescott on loan 4rm City, sell John Heitinga and use dat fee to buy Kevin Gameiro n Wissam Ben Yedder .
Mirror Football is reporting that Everton are looking to bring Joleon Lescott back to Goodison Park in the January transfer window. The England international of course made his name in the English Premier League with the Toffees, before leaving for a huge fee of £24 million to Manchester City. It is thought that David Moyes might try and lure him back to the club on a loan deal as at the moment, he is not getting much first-team football under Roberto Mancini. When it comes to the big games, Mancini has opted to leave Lescott on the bench and Kolo Toure appears to have moved up in the pecking order as the third choice centre-back. If Moyes did bring Lescott in, the wages could be a stumbling block as he is on around £90,000-per-week, so City would have to continue to pay some of his salary. If they managed to agree terms, then Everton may look to sell John Heitinga and then hope to use his transfer fee to bring more new faces to Merseyside. Reports suggest that Moyes is keen on signing two strikers, Kev ...

Fenerbahce in Yobo talks Everton have confirmed they are in discussions with Fenerbahce regarding a transfer of Joseph Yobo to the Turkish club. The 31-year-old has spent the last two seasons on loan with the Super Lig side, helping them to the title in his first season. Yobo made 42 appearances for Fenerbahce last season as they finished second in the table. Yobo was David Moyes' first signing when he joined Everton in 2002 from Marseille and has made 220 league appearances for the Toffees. He became the first African player to captain the Toffees, when in 2007 he led the team out in their 2007 UEFA Cup Group A tie against Larissa at Goodison Park. However with Sylvain Distin, Phil Jagielka and John Heitinga ahead of the Nigerian international, Yobo left for first team football in August 2010. After an initial year at Fenerbahce, Yobo returned to Merseyside before going back to Turkey for a second season-long loan. Rather than sacking the coach of the Dutch national team, Coach Bert van Marwijk has been given powers to rejuvenate the Dutch national team in preparation for the World Cup qualifiers. And in return, he has told the football association (KNVB), he wants to rejuvenate the Dutch team by dropping a number of older players and bringing in younger players ready for the World Cup qualifiers which begin in September. The star players being dropped are Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Rafael van der Vaart, Joris Mathijsen, Khalid Boulahrouz and John Heitinga. Some of them came in for bitter criticism following the team's failure to reach the European Cup quarter finals earlier this month. Other player in doubt is Dirk Juyt and Captain Mark van Bommel who has already declared he is not available to play for his country again. Have your say now and that is if you are a follower of Dutch football. Who would you like to see in the new-look Dutch team?
