ENGLAND today named their team for Saturday’s 1st Test in the Steinlager Series against New Zealand at Eden Park. British and Irish Lions Geoff Parling and Manusamoa Tuilagi are included while there is a return for London Wasps flanker James Haskell after a 12-month absence. Seven players that started against Italy in the RBS 6 Nations are included in the XV – captain Chris Robshaw, Mike Brown, Danny Care, Joe Launchbury, Jonny May, Ben Morgan and David Wilson. England Head Coach Stuart Lancaster said: “We’ve had a good week’s training in Auckland and have prepared well and are ready for the massive challenge ahead. It doesn’t get much bigger than playing New Zealand at Eden Park where they haven’t lost in 20 years but those selected know what they have to do. “Billy Twelvetrees is recovering well from his ankle injury and should be available for the 2nd Test and it’s now a good opportunity for Kyle Eastmond to build on what he achieved in Argentina last summer. “It’s great to welcom ...

Great game of rugby!! Courtney Lawes deserved man of the match, but Joe Launchbury definitely deserves a mention. Hartley played ok, but gave away too many penalties, Danny Care had a fantastic game, (all be it with a little too much kicking!!) and as usual Mike Brown and Luther Burrell had fantastic games. We played with fluency and composure, (all though felt the ref was a little on our side. Maybe he was trying to make up for the devastation France gave us in the first week!), and Wales were definitely fighting through that game!
Courtney Lawes was immense. Him and Joe Launchbury have the boiler room pumping. Well played England

Six Nations 2014: England out to exorcise Wales spirit after beating Irish • We are growing in confidence, says Stuart Lancaster • Joe Launchbury 'is unassuming but a *** of a player' Almost the best thing about England's stirring victory on Saturday is the delicious sense of anticipation it uncorks. There will be no grand slams in this year's Six Nations but Wales' visit to south-west London on Sunday week cannot come quickly enough for both tribes. If it is half as good as this outstanding contest, a proper Test in every sense, not even the losers will complain too loudly. Ireland can also still collect the title if they recover from this psychological jolt and see off Italy and France. Whoever ends up on top of the table, however, this was a highly significant outcome for England and an indication of the growing character within Stuart Lancaster's young squad. As recently as three weeks ago they were losing tight games such as this, some core skills faltering under pressure. There was, consequentl ...

Stuart Lancaster has named an unchanged England squad to travel to Edinburgh for their RBS 6 Nations match against Scotland on Saturday. Jonny May (Gloucester Rugby) has been passed fit take his place in the 23, who will return to Pennyhill Park on Wednesday evening. The starting XV and replacements will be named on Thursday and Head Coach Lancaster said: "We were disappointed by the result against France but very proud of many aspects of the performance and we want to give the same 23 the opportunity to build on that against Scotland. "All the squad have been excellent in training over the last two days and I know those going back to play for their Aviva Premiership clubs will be determined to put a marker down for the subsequent matches.” Forwards (13) David Attwood (Bath Rugby) Dan Cole (Leicester Tigers) Dylan Hartley (Northampton Saints) Joe Launchbury (London Wasps) Courtney Lawes (Northampton Saints) Joe Marler (Harlequins) Ben Morgan (Gloucester Rugby) Chris Robshaw (Harlequins) Henry Thomas (Sa ...
England vs France My Line-up 1. Joe Marler - I feel that a solid scrum will be what gives the edge over les blues. He has shown to be a stronger scrummager than Vunipola who would be better in a ball-carrying role. Although I think that Stuart Lancaster will go with Mako Vunipola. 2. Dylan Hartley - Has over 50 caps now so his experience will be key. He is in-form at the moment and can make big hits to prevent players such as Louis Picamoles. 3. Dan Cole - Consistent player who has no Real competition because of the injury to Wilson. Will do the dirty work and cause turnovers. As a big lump he is useful in defence 4. Joe Launchbury - At 22 he has a great international future ahead of him. He covers ground immensely well and like Cole will turn balls over for fun! He is a very good all-round player. 5. Courtney Lawes - Big tough tackling monster! Like Hartley will help to grind down the French with big hits. In the Autumn Internationals Lawes was given the responsibility of making the line-out calls. This ...
England second-row Joe Launchbury has stressed the need to put in an 80 minute showing when they face New Zealand at Twickenham on Saturday. A solid first-half against the Pumas was not backed up in the second last week as the Red Rose wilted, with Argentina in the ascendancy.
England record a second win from the autumn internationals with an impressive first half performance at Twickenham Stadium. Tries came from Joe Launchbury, Billy Twelvetrees, Chris Ashton and Ben Morgan. Final score 31-12
Joel Tomkins set for England debut but Geoff Parling out Rugby league convert Joel Tomkins is set for an England debut against Australia at Twickenham on Saturday - but head coach Stuart Lancaster will be without lock Geoff Parling. Uncapped Saracens centre Tomkins, who switched codes in 2011, has been retained in Lancaster's 23-man squad. But Lions second-row Parling suffered mild concussion during training on Tuesday and has been ruled out. Parling's absence means Courtney Lawes and Joe Launchbury are likely to start. England's autumn series England v Australia (14:30 GMT) - 2 November England v Argentina (14:30) -9 November England v New Zealand (14:30) - 16 November Bath's Dave Attwood, who only returned from a rib injury last week, will supply second-row cover from the bench for the opening autumn Test against the Wallabies. Good news with Joe Marler, Joe Launchbury and Billy Twelvetrees all in the England squad for Autumn internationals.
An England team for the Autumn Internationals October 15, 2013 With the announcement of England’s squad for the Autumn Internationals set to take place tomorrow morning, we’ve put together the team we think Stuart Lancaster should pick to take on Australia in the first game. What do you make of it? 15: Ben Foden The Northampton fullback has had a torrid time with injuries over the past few seasons, but is finally back in form with a run of games under his belt. He has a counter-attacking ability surpassed by few, and has a proven ability to change games at this level – something neither Alex Goode nor Mike Brown can claim. 14: Marland Yarde The London Irish youngster has propelled himself to the top of the wingers list. If he was in contention before the start of the season, he is now surely a starter. His finishing ability is well documented, but it is his power and work rate, both at the breakdown and in the loose, that sets him above his rivals. 13: Kyle Eastmond With Manu Tuilagi out, this was t ...

Aviva Premiership Team of the Week: Round 5 October 7, 2013 15: Topsy Ojo (London Irish) Ojo makes the team almost exclusively for his exquisite crossfield chip that sent Alex Lewington over in the corner on 62 minutes, and in the process effectively killed-off any dreams Harlequins had of a resurgence. It was such a nonchalant little kick from a player not necessarily renowned for his deft touches. 14: Semesa Rokodoguni (Bath) Rokodoguni is in red-hot try-scoring form at the start of this season, and although the rest of the Bath team were fairly disappointing on Friday night, the winger’s fine finish in the first half lit-up an otherwise lacklustre display. He also managed to get his hands on the ball on plenty of occasions, making 13 carries and beating nine defenders in the process. 13: Ian Whitten (Exeter Chiefs) Given the dominance of their pack it was not a tough day for the Exeter backs, but Whitten still managed to shine for the Chiefs. There were a couple of clean breaks that showed an impress ...
Argentina v England: England player ratings Posted on Jun 10, 2013 1. Joe Marler: 6.5 Not bad but not great from the Harlequins man. Temper seemed to get the better of him at times amid petulant provocations from the opposing front row. 2.Rob Webber: 7.5 Near perfect lineout throwing but he impressed mostly in the loose where he carried with purpose and tackled superbly. Very impressive in his last two starts. 3. David Wilson: 7 Seemed to thrive opposite an inexperienced front row as showed his scrummaging prowess. Tackled well and proved very reliable in Dan Cole’s absence. 4. Joe Launchbury: 8 The young lock is maturing at a rate of knots and this was a performance beyond his years. Seemed everywhere at points in the first half and impressed as part of a dominant pack. 5. Dave Attwood: 8 Terrific target at the lineout and tackled well. Looked tired towards the end of his shift but the work he put in was crucial to England’s set-piece dominance. 6. Tom Wood: 7 A typically industrious performance from ...

The former Cheetah loving life as a Wasp Posted on Feb 14, 2013 London Wasps have enjoyed a sensational turnaround in their fortunes this season. What has changed? Their maturing crop of youngsters are now regular first team starters or have even higher honours. Joe Launchbury is now an established England starter, while Billy Vunipola, Christian Wade and Elliot Daly feature in the current England Saxons squad, awaiting their own first caps. The club also recruited well last summer, with the return of England stars James Haskell and Tom Palmer. Seasoned international veterans Andrea Masi and Stephen Jones also joined the ranks as fitting mentors to Wasps’ young and upcoming home-grown backline contingent. Another new signing has gone quietly about his business, leaving the majority of the headlines to his team mates. Ashley Johnson, the former Free State Cheetah number eight capped three times by South Africa, is a pretty terrifying, imposing player on the pitch; always taking the ball at full speed and ...

Joe Launchbury ready to put best foot forward again
Six Nations Preview and Prediction: England Home ground: Twickenham, London Coach: Stuart Lancaster Strengths: One of England’s great strengths is the structure they bring to their game. They may not have the counter-attacking ability of the French, but they have a way of building the phases until they find themselves in a dangerous position. Whilst they haven’t always possessed the composure necessary to finish teams off when in these positions, it is encouraging nevertheless that they are getting themselves there. They also have the makings of a world-class front five. If all fit, a line-up of Corbisiero, Hartley, Cole, Parling and Launchbury would truly be up there with the best. All these players have plenty of years at the top level left in them, and with the likes of Tom Youngs and Mako Vunipola breaking onto the scene the future looks rosy in this area. Dan Cole has confirmed himself as one of the pre-eminent tight heads in world rugby; Geoff Parling is as astute a line-out operator as anyone a ...

Lancaster changes seven for England Stuart Lancaster continues to prove he is unafraid of making changes after the England head coach announced the EPS and Saxons squads for the upcoming RBS 6 Nations. Lancaster has made seven changes in all from the July 2012 senior squad, with call-ups for Gloucester duo Freddie Burns and Billy Twelvetrees, London Wasps pair Joe Launchbury and James Haskell as well as Northampton’s Calum Clark, Saracens’ David Strettle and Leicester’s Tom Youngs. England’s RBS 6 Nations campaign kicks off against Scotland at Twickenham on February 2 with the team heading up to Leeds at the end of next week to begin their preparations. The inclusion of Burns and Twelvetrees comes as a reward for Gloucester’s fine start to the season while Launchbury and Haskell were both involved in England’s triumph over the All Blacks last month. Strettle’s inclusion comes at the expense of Charlie Sharples who has to settle for a place in the Saxons squad while Youngs started every game ...

World Sports News Clark, Twelvetrees get England rugby call England head coach Stuart Lancaster has included uncapped pair Calum Clark and Billy Twelvetrees in his 33-man squad for the Six Nations, which starts on February 2. Northampton forward Clark returns to the England fold after serving a 32-week ban for breaking an opponent's elbow last year. Joe Launchbury, Tom Youngs, Mako Vunipola and Freddie Burns have also been promoted to the senior squad after making an impact in England's end-of-year internationals. Lancaster, who also announced a 32-man squad for the second-string Saxons team, said: "The fact that we have spent significant time deliberating over quite a few players shows how tough the competition is to get into this 65 and the strength in depth that is emerging. "We have made some changes to both squads and we feel that reflects the players' form during the first half of the season.
