Hi, thanks for accepting me into the group. Currently, I mostly listen to audiobooks because I'm working on a degree with the Open University and I feel guilty if I pick up a book that isn't a course book. My favourite genre is crime fiction. Fave authors include Jeffery Deaver, Michael Connelly, Ian Rankin, Stuart McBride, Christopher Brookmyre, Jo Nesbo and Janet Evanovich. I also occasionally read Fantasy which used to be my main genre. Faves from that genre include The Fionavar Tapestry trilogy by Guy Gavriel Kay and The Belgariad by David Eddings. I am planning to read The Game of Thrones series next. My most recent audio listen was The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August which I really enjoyed.
Of course it is late in the day when I get to posting my Tuesday book release list. Where do the hours go? May continues to ramp up the number of popular books being released, eventually leading to an exciting summer. Two books coming out to day have a direct link to television shows. Craig Johnson is releasing the next title in the "Longmire" series. The TV show will start up again for season 3 this summer. "Any Other Name" is the title of the book. Fictional television character Richard Castle has his next Derek Storm book on shelves today. "Wild Storm" is the new title. Scandinavian writers are well represented today as well. Jo Nesbo and Camilla Camilla Läckberg both have new mysteries out today. "The Son" and "The Hidden Child" respectively. Scandinavian authors generally produce very violent, graphic books. They are usually good authors, but don't say I didn't warn you about the violence. The other authors with books out today are, Douglas Preston, Peter Mayle, Walter Mosley, Jeffrey Jef ...
Queues around the block for Jo Nesbo
I'm really distressed. There are millions of books by American authors and now I've discovered a Norwegian author named Jo Nesbo. I just finished The Snowman, a tangled thriller about a serial killer (this one is for you, Angela and Colleen--remember, Angela, I told you about this one at the game). Inspector Harry Hole (apparently Nesbo trots him out for all of his murder mysteries) is a fascinating and, of course, brilliant detective. If a snowman shows up on your lawn on the first snow of the year, you're next! Well, we won't have to worry about that madman here at least. I just ordered The Redeemer, which is recommended by another of my favorite mystery writers, Michael Connelly (The Poet).

Boom, I read 100 books this year. A combo of new releases and older stuff I hadn't read. None of these are re-reads. And certainly not all of them were good. But a whole lot of them were. Ann Cleeves makes a great case in today's 'Observer' for crime/thriller writers to step out of their well-ploughed furrows of depicting severe brutality against females of all ages. She cites Steig Larsson and Jo Nesbo as prime examples, but it's everywhere. I'd begun to read a police procedural by an upcoming Irish male writer whose first victim was a teenager found with her knickers on inside out. I quickly set it aside. How many more of these limited but maybe all-too influential scenarios are agents and editors prepared to sanction? In three of my eight published chillers, it's a woman in the shadows who's in control. Yes, with the wrong kind of power, but...

New titles on our adult NOOKS from Dan Brown, Dean Koontz, Jo Nesbo, Nora Roberts, Sylvia Day and more:
I love coming home and finding great new books in the Little Free Library. Just in...Headhunters by Norwegian author Jo Nesbo. It is described as a funny, dark and twisted caper reminiscent of the Coen brothers. We were addicted to Nesbo's Harry Hole crime novels last year while we were travelling. As well, The Table Comes First: family, France, and the meaning of Food by Adam Gopnik. Gopnik is a writer for the New Yorker who spent five years with his family living in Paris. He wrote a book called Paris to the Moon about this experience - check out your local public library for that one! Finally...The Last American Man by Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Eat, Pray, Love...but let's not hold that against her. The Last American Man is about Eustace Conway who left his suburban existence at the age of seventeen to live in the wild of the Appalachian Mountains - twenty years later, he's still there. These long Yukon evenings are perfect for pouring a glass of wine, grabbing a new book and enjoying the won ...
Tom Nolan reviews The Redeemer, by Jo Nesbo; "The Caretaker," by A.X. Ahmad; and "The Shanghai Factor," by Charles McCarry.
On sale today: Zero Hour by Clive Cussler and Graham Brown. This is the new Kurt Austin adventure. A Conspiracy of Faith by Jussi Adler-Olsen is the third Department O novel to be published in the United States. This is a terrific mystery series. The first two books, The Keeper of Lost Causes and The Absent One, are available in paperback. These are perfect for fans of Henning Mankell and Jo Nesbo.
New fiction includes thrillers by Jo Nesbo and Jane Casey, another Civil War offering by Jeff Shaara, plus titles by Philipp Meyer, Daphne Kolotay, Donna Leon and Dean Koontz. Non-fiction features musical memoirs by Paul Anka and Burt Bacharach; Anchee Min (or Red Azalea fame), and astronaut Buzz Aldrin on travel to Mars.
I've updated my autograph blog with a couple of new autographs. Haven't been able to do too much what with me being out of the country 6 months at a time. But I picked up a couple of authors (Brian Rucksley, Christopher Farnsworth) and a couple of actors (Kristen Stewart, Jon Hamm). Next on my list are Jo Nesbo, Michael Connelly (6 mos and counting), Stephen Amell, David Giuntoli, and somehow I have to sell a kidney or something to get Hugh Dancy's auto since I'm currently 0-1 on him and his Will Graham on Hannibal is killing me in all the best ways.
Staff picks: Fans of Henning Mankell, Stief Larsson and Jo Nesbo will be pleased to discover Jussi Adler-Olsen, Denmark's crime writer, author of the Department Q series. Adler-Olsen has created Carl Morck, a wonderfully flawed detective who is so damaged mentally that the Copenhagen police department has buried him in a one-man investigative unit. Julie thought The Keeper of Lost Causes was excellent and is anxious to read the next in the series.
