No one song ever defined or redefined a group as generously as "Stairway To Heaven" did Led Zeppelin. For Jimmy Page, "Stairway" crystallized the essence of the band: "It had everything there and showed the band at its best...as a band, as a unit" he said.

News coming from Spitfire Radio 6 July 2013 Led Zeppelin fan has her own bit of Rock And Roll history Ruth Dale is the proud resident of Bron-yr-Aur - a Welsh farm cottage where the famous band crafted their legendary acoustic gems Doorway to heaven: Ruth Dale at the entrance to Bron-yr-Aur It's not exactly a Stairway To Heaven – more a long driveway that needs a lot of maintenance, leading 500ft up a steep hill. But former Birmingham teacher Ruth Dale doesn’t mind the daily hard slog. Not one little bit. She’s the proud resident of Bron-yr-Aur, the Welsh former farmer’s cottage at the top of the slope dating back to around 1790 that later inspired a seismic shift in rock music. The idyllic setting, and particularly its limitations, caused Led Zeppelin’s guitarist Jimmy Page and West Bromwich-born vocalist Robert Plant to turn down the volume for which they had become renowned, as they began crafting some legendary acoustic gems on tape while on retreat there in 1970, during a real purple patch ...

Led Zeppelin Celebration Day showing tonight on the big screen at 7pm. On December 10, 2007, Led Zeppelin took the stage at London's O2 Arena to headline a tribute concert for dear friend and Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun. The event saw more than 20 million fans apply for just 18,000 tickets, making this the most demanded ticket in music history. What followed was a two-hour-plus tour de force of the band's signature blues-infused rock 'n' roll that instantly became part of the legend of Led Zeppelin. Founding members John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant were joined by Jason Bonham, the son of their late drummer John Bonham, to perform 16 songs from their celebrated catalogue including landmark tracks Whole Lotta Love, Rock And Roll, Kashmir, and Stairway To Heaven.

La voce di Robert Plant quando canta "and as we wind on down the road, our shadows taller than our souls" fino alla fine di Stairway to Heaven, unita alla chitarra di Jimmy Page, crea dipendenza come la droga
"Stairway to Heaven" plays out as a kind of spirit quest, a journey into a quasi-mythical, pagan past through music. The classical guitar and lyrics recall Romantic poets like Keats as nature itself becomes a voice of truth whispering in the distance. The song's key thematic element—a journey in search of meaning in a world of ambiguity—is emphasized by the constant evolution of the song as it, too, searches for an adequate voice. When that voice finally seems to be found—in Jimmy Page's soaring guitar solo, which starts almost six minutes into the piece—it is ritualistically and gloriously prefaced by a fanfare. It seems that the song is channeling the spirit of some kind of guitar god. The energy of the song then becomes incredible: Robert Plant's singing an octave higher, the distorted guitar bellowing, the rhythm section frantically pounding away. The song becomes less about Page as an individual musician and more about the band acting on Page's energy. There is a shift from "extreme individua ...

Led Zeppelin Meets Elvis Presley While Elvis Presley inspired members of Led Zeppelin years earlier, Elvis had only heard one of their songs -- "Stairway to Heaven" -- when mutual promoter Jerry Weintraub hooked Presley up with Robert Plant and Jimmy Page in 1972. At Presley's Vegas suite, the meeting was initially awkward, with few words exchanged, according to Cameron Crowe, writing for the Daily Telegraph. Finally, Elvis asked, "Is it true, these stories about you boys on the road?" Plant, without cracking a smile, said, "Of course not -- we're family men. In fact, I get the most pleasure out of walking the hotel corridors, singing your songs." Then Plant offered his best impersonation of Elvis singing the country song "Love Me." Elvis and his bodyguards burst out laughing, and the ice was broken. Two hours later, as Plant and Page were walking down the corridor outside Presley's room, Elvis -- looking quite pleased with himself -- poked his head out the door and began singing, "Treat me like a fol ...

The Story Behind “Stairway To Heaven” Ted Drozdowski | 10.26.2012 Led Zeppelin How did high school dances end before November 8, 1971? That’s the date that Led Zeppelin released a promotional disc to FM rock stations that would become the world’s most-played radio hit and cross over to teen-packed auditoriums everywhere, “Stairway To Heaven.” It was an unlikely on-air success at eight-minutes long, but in the early ’70s FM DJs could still play the full-length version of “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida,” Iron Butterfly’s 17-minute bathroom break anthem. And the length of “Stairway,” plus the song’s long quiet build-up, made it perfect for slow dancing until the explosive finale, which provided an outlet for the hormonal energy that the slow dancing generated. The song that Gibson Les Paul legend Jimmy Page described as “crystallizing the band” started taking form in 1970 during Page and Robert Plant’s famous songwriting vacation in rural Wales at a cottage called Bron-Yr-Aur. Page devel ...
Those who know/knew me, know that I have been a HUGE Led Zeppelin fan since the late 70's. On Wednesday, Led Zeppelin scheduled a 2-day only "sneak-peak" of their new concert film, Celebration Day, at a handfull of theaters in major city markets. I happened to be in Cleveland on business last Wednesday and caught one of the two showings (the other was Thursday). I was absolutely BLOWN AWAY. Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham (son of original drummer John Bonham) were unbelievable. They put on a performance with as much command as they had in the 70's during this 16-song set. They will be releasing the DVD, BD, music CD's, record albums (on 3 vinyls) in mid-November. It is a must-have for any Zep-Heads out there. It has been two days since I saw the film, and I am still in awe. Stairway To Heaven, Dazed & Confused, Whole Lotta Love, In My Time of Dying, Kashmir, Trampled Under Foot, Misty Mountain Hop, Ramble On, For Your Life, The Song Remains The Same, Rock N Roll, Black Do ...
I watching a Led Zepplin movie from 1976... Was I that stoned? What the *** is Stairway to Heaven about? Couldnt they have done that song in 3 minutes? Drum solos? I will say their shorter more straightforward tunes are quite good. Robert Plant is a badass and Jimmy Page seems talented when he isnt wiped on heroin. I used to listen to this until Punk set me free.and I quit smoking the funny stuff.wow...
My australian friend Orianthi as Jimmy Page... Great guitar solo!!! Jorge from Argentina!
Listening to, "Stairway To Heaven", by Led Zeppelin, from "The Song Remains The Same" DVD. In the first 4:48 all you hear is Robert Plant's voice, John Paul Jones on the Mellotron, and Jimmy Page playing his famous Gibson EDS-1275 doubleneck electric guitar. These 4:48 are a perfect blend of expression, passion and talent. I truely feel sorry for the younger generation who thinks Justin Bieber "is all that".
Stairway To Heaven is all about John Bonham and Jimmy Page. Just so brilliant of Page not to overshadow the song like many other vocalists.
