The fact that Led Zeppelin could have been Keith Moon, John Entwistle, Jimmy Page, and Jeff Beck is BEYOND amazing.
Fascinating Fact In May 1966, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones were in the recording studio with Jeff Beck, and Who members Keith Moon and John Entwistle, recording an instrumental called "Beck's Bolero." Things went so well, the idea of forming a band together was suggested, to which Keith Moon responded that the band would “go over like a lead balloon.” Page remembered the joke two years later when he created Zep. But he changed “lead” to “led” because he thought Americans would mispronounce it.
5/20 and it will be a Terrific Tuesday.have a great day fans! Before Led Zeppelin, a song called "Beck's Bolero" was released as a B-side to the single "Hi *** Silver Lining". "Beck's Bolero" was a rock song with Jeff Beck as lead guitarist. He then asked Jimmy Page to play an electric 12 string guitar on the song. Which other member of Led Zeppelin played on the song "Beck's Bolero"? John Paul Jones. "Beck's Bolero" was an instrumental song (so if you guessed Plant you're wrong) composed of Page and Beck. Playing bass for the song was of course John Paul Jones (after John Entwistle pulled out), session man Nicky Hopkins on piano, and The Who's Keith Moon on drums. Jimmy Page once said that the lineup of "Beck's Bolero" (the bassist would be John Entwistle) would be his dream band. Well, that never happened as Entwistle and Moon were in The Who and Beck had other plans. Fortunately, Page found another dream band. The dream band was Led Zeppelin.
Jimmy Page originally wanted Keith Moon and John Entwistle to be in his super group, they decline and created "The Who"
I just found out that the name Led Zeppelin came from a quote from Keith Moon and John Entwistle (from The Who) stating that Jimmy Page' new group would go down like a 'lead zeppelin'. In order to avoid mispronunciation they changed the word to 'Led'. Amazing stuff!
Keith Moon and John Entwistle stated that Jimmy Page's The New Yardbirds would go down like a zeppelin made of lead. Thus the name was born.
If there was a band with John Bonham, John Entwistle, Jimmy Page & Roger Daltrey with Pete Townshend as the composer/visionary it'd be epic.
Other than my bass heroes such as Jaco, Chris Squire, and John Entwistle to name a few, I have to say the one person that has influenced me musically more than any other musician is without a doubt Mr. Jimmy Page, and Im a bassist. His versatility, writing and performance skills have and will always be most respected. Happy Birthday Jimmy Page!!!

Jimmy Page info Part 2 The Yardbirds In late 1964, Page was approached about the possibility of replacing Eric Clapton in The Yardbirds, but he declined the offer out of loyalty to his friend. In February 1965 Clapton quit the Yardbirds, and Page was formally offered Clapton's spot, but because he was unwilling to give up his lucrative career as a session musician, and because he was still worried about his health under touring conditions, he suggested his friend, Jeff Beck. On 16 May 1966, drummer Keith Moon, bass player John Paul Jones, keyboardist Nicky Hopkins, Jeff Beck and Page recorded "Beck's Bolero" in London's IBC Studios. The experience gave Page an idea to form a new supergroup featuring Beck, along with The Who's John Entwistle on bass and Keith Moon on drums. However, the lack of a quality vocalist and contractual problems prevented the project from getting off the ground. During this time, Entwistle suggested the name "Lead Zeppelin" for the first time, after Moon commented that the p ...
Keith Moon is said to have named Led Zeppelin when an early version of the band was being discussed that would have had himself, along with John Entwistle on bass, Jimmy Page on Guitar, and an undecided vocalist, as members; he stated the potential supergroup would "go down like a lead Zeppelin".
Better yet... the yardbirds before they split into Cream The Who and Zeppelin. Keith Moon and John Entwistle, Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page!!!
