BR has praised the desire and ability of Liverpool's marauding full-backs, Alberto Moreno and Javier Manquillo, insisting the pair are settling seamlessly into life on Merseyside. Kopites have warmed quickly to the Spanish duo, who arrived from La Liga in the summer and have made an immediate mark for the Reds throughout 2014-15 so far. Signed from Sevilla in August, Moreno debuted against Manchester City at the Etihad before racing across the White Hart Lane turf six days later to rifle home a spectacular strike against Tottenham Hotspur. He was then impressive during the 2-1 victory over Ludogorets Razgrad on Tuesday night at Anfield, in a match that was settled by a stoppage-time penalty, converted by Steven Gerrard and earned by the sheer persistence of Manquillo. The 20-year-old, recruited from Atletico Madrid, raced forward as full-time beckoned, deep into the Kop penalty area, where he was fouled by Milan Borjan, the Ludogorets goalkeeper, allowing Gerrard to seal the win from 12 yards. Fabio Borini ran straight over to Javier Manquillo after he was tackled last night
Off the mark with season opener. 3 points in the bag. Scruffy win but a win nonetheless. Hoping to see that shine we had last season in the next match. Martin Skrtel and Dejan Lovren were immense at the back. Simon Mignolet did a great job too at the post. Javier Manquillo played well and so did Glen Johnson in the full back position. Steven Gerrard and Lucas Leiva looked a bit rusty. Jordan Henderson as usual motored on. Phillipe Coutinho and Raheem Sterling were the creative force today. Daniel Sturridge looked ragged today. Two well executed goals. Henderson's through ball was inch perfect. Sterling with cool one touch finish. Kudos to Paul Lambert for second one coming off the bench. Joe Allen played like he means business. Overall I am not over the moon but ok with the win. Roll on next week!!
A high-five from Brendan Rodgers and a loud ovation from the fans for Javier Manquillo, who has enjoyed a fine debut
Football | Pre-Season Coutinho stars as Liverpool down BVB 10 August 2014, 16:08 Liverpool warmed up for the start of their Premier League campaign with a Philippe Coutinho-inspired 4-0 friendly win over Borussia Dortmund at Anfield on Sunday. Brendan Rodgers's side dominated their final pre-season match with Brazilian playmaker Coutinho the most impressive performer as he scored one goal and had a hand in another. Coutinho, who will be expected to carry much of Liverpool's creative burden following the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona, was a constant menace throughout as Daniel Sturridge, Dejan Lovren and Jordan Henderson also got their names on the scoresheet against German club Dortmund. Liverpool, looking to gone one better after finishing runners-up to Manchester City in the Premier League last season, handed debuts to new defensive signings Javier Manquillo and Lovren while Sturridge had shaken off a hamstring injury to start in attack. Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp had only one of Germany's quartet of ...

Arsenal remain locked in advanced negotiations with Sami Khedira and David Ospina, as Arsene Wenger looks to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season. The Gunners are in the market for a new defence-minded midfielder and goalkeeper, with Mikel Arteta set be used sporadically next season, and Arsene Wenger believes the duo are the perfect men for the job as he builds a squad capable of challenging on all fronts next season. Reports in Spain claim that Arsenal have already lodged a £23m bid for the midfield lynchpin who is said to be ‘keen’ at the idea of playing under Wenger alongside his German World Cup winning compatriots Mesut Özil, Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski.
