Spurs line up £24m move for Javier Hernandez and Marouane Fellaini. Today's transfer tales
According to reports Mauricio Pochettino planning double swoop for Man Utd pair Javier Hernandez and Marouane Fellaini. Move for Hernandez is understandable as we need another striker and Poch could be interested in him due to his proven Premier League scoring record and latin american roots but why would a manger who is famous for playing stylish brand of football would move for Fellaini when he already have half dozen midfielders and almost all of them better than Fellaini at his disposal ? If we sign another midfielder it would be Schneiderlin and none other while arrival of another CB, LW and Striker are still possibility. -gatsby
Manchester United are confident Danny Welbeck will still be at the club after the summer transfer window closes. The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to other sides in the Premier League, including Hull City who have been rumored to be plotting a £14million. But the Mirror reports United want to keep at the club as he fits in new boss Louis Van Gaal’s plans to play in the 3-5-2 system. The England international may find it difficult to receive opportunities upfront due to the presence of Wayne Rooney, Robin Van and Javier Hernandez, but could be used as wide player due to his work ethic. That will disappoint Hull who made Welbeck their main target to replace Shane Long who has made a move to Southampton for £12million. The FA Cup runners-up have been keeping an eye on several fringe players from major Premier League sides as they look to emulate their success from last season.
Millions of Reds all over the world are united today in condemnation of a dire opening day performance from Louis Van Gaal’s side. The 2-1 defeat at the hands of Swansea City in front of a packed Old Trafford shattered hopes that a return to the glory days are just around the corner following last season’s sorry showing. Hopes were high going into the new season following the arrival of Van Gaal. But the display against a solid, but hardly sensational, Swansea was a total let down. Certain players – Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Javier Hernandez, Ashley Young, Marouane Fellaini and, of course, Nani – should hang their heads in shame. You wonder just how bad the Reds would be without the newly-appointed skipper Wayne Rooney. Sadly, only the England striker out of this sorry bunch of a squad would be an automatic choice for City or Chelsea, who are sure to be contesting the Premier League title. And arguably hardly any other of the United starting XI would make the Arsenal or even Liverpool teams in c ...
Swansea City ruined Louis Van Gaal’s first game as Manchester United manager after claiming a shock 2-1 victory at Old Trafford. Summer signing Gylfi Sigurdsson scored Swansea’s winner with just under 20 minutes remaining, having also teed up Ki Sung-yueng’s first-half opener before Wayne Rooney acrobatically levelled for United early in the second half. United suffered a blow midway through the first half when debutant Jesse Lingard was forced off due to injury and was replaced by Adnan Januzaj. Swansea took the lead with the first real chance of the game on 28 minutes when Sigurdsson rolled a pass across the edge of the area and Ki, who spent last season on loan at Sunderland, placed a low shot beyond David de Gea’s reach. Louis Van Gaal brought Nani on for Javier Hernandez at half-time, ditching his 3-5-2 formation in the process, and saw United equalise within eight minutes of the restart. Juan Mata’s corner was helped on at the near post by Phil Jones and newly-appointed captain Rooney’s ...

Premier League - Paper Round: Welbeck linked with shock destination Welbeck targeted by Hull: Hull City are set to make a record-breaking bid to sign Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck, reports the Daily Mirror. Welbeck will start the new season as United's third choice striker, behind Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie, and his chances of seeing regular first-team action are limited. Hull boss Steve Bruce is after a replacement for Shane Long and is hoping Louis Van Gaal will agree to cash in on the England forward. The Tigers will expect to pay around £14 million for Welbeck. This could be a good move for Welbeck, who needs to be playing regular football at this stage of his career. Unfortunately, that isn't going to happen at United, and a move elsewhere appears to be the obvious solution. That said, Van Gaal may be unwilling to offload a player he is likely to view as a valuable squad player, especially if Javier Hernandez is on his way out of Old Trafford.
TURAN ANOTHER UNITED OPTION... With talk of Angel Di Maria now going a touch quiet, the papers need to draw a new name out of their hat for United's midfield. Atletico Madrid's Arda Turan is that man. So say the Daily Mirror. The Turkish winger has been talked about infrequently this summer regarding a move to Old Trafford, but nothing has really got off the ground as yet. The Mirror claim that Van Gaal is keen on the 27-year-old, who would be available for a fee of around £15million. They also claim that this could see United on a 'collision course' against Liverpool, who apparently also wish to sign Turan. Not for us, I'm afraid. ...AND HERNANDEZ'S AGENT PIPES UP ON VIDAL We rather thought that every single person ever connected with Manchester United and Juventus had had their say on the Arturo Vidal affair, but it appears that Javier Hernandez's agent hasn't thrown in his twopenneth worth yet. Marouane Fellaini grabbed a last-minute winner as Manchester United warmed up for the Premier League with a 2-1 victory over Valencia. The Belgian, who has had a tough time at Old Trafford since he was signed by David Moyes nearly a year ago, pounced on a defensive mistake in injury time to ensure the Reds finished their pre-season programme unbeaten. Darren Fletcher had put United ahead early in the second half, after Wayne Rooney had missed a penalty before the break. Rodrigo equalised in Valencia’s best spell, but just as the friendly looked to be drifting to a draw, substitute Fellaini pounced for the deciding goal. Louis Van Gaal's first game in charge at Old Trafford saw the Dutchman unveil the 3-5-2 system that served him well so far in pre-season, but although United looked comfortable the game only came to life as a contest when Rooney struck his spot kick against the base of the post having been clipped going for an Ashley Young cross. Fletcher put United ahead with a deflected shot from the ' ...

The Italian giants would want to open talks with United for the signings of Javier Hernandez and Nani if Vidal is to leave Turin for Manchester this summer, with the Chilean ace widely expected to make the move to Old Trafford. United have long been in the market for a world class signing in midfield, and Vidal has been mentioned as one of their top targets for this summer, whilst other big names such as Toni Kroos and Fredy Guarin have also been linked with the club. Javier Hernandez come back we still doing overtime
Juventus are reportedly considering a move to take Manchester United’s Javier Hernandez this summer. Inter have been strongly linked to the Mexico international in recent days, only to be dismayed by a high asking price. Tuttosport believe the Red Devils’ request of €11m (£8.7m) for the striker has delayed Inter’s attempts and instead brought Juve into contention. The Turin-based publication say the Bianconeri are readying an offer of €2m (£1.6m) for an initial season-long loan, with a purchase option set in place for between €7m (£5.6m) and €8m (£6.4m). It is understood that negotiations over Hernandez will be unrelated to anything that may be ongoing or not with United’s continued interest in Arturo Vidal.
Manchester United LIFTS INTERNATIONAL CHAMPION CUP Man U have sent an early warning to all English Premier League teams by beating Liverpool 3:1 to lift International Champion Cup in Miami, USA. Liverpool was the first to settle down in a match played in a high humidity. The Red Devils took time to find their rhythm as both teams used the same style of play. In the 13 minutes, Liverpool was given a penalty after Jones trickled down Sterling who was a hot potato for United defenders to handle. Steven Gerrard took it and sent the ball to the right bottom corner of the net making it 1:0. After the goal Liverpool were all over the field as United were still struggling to get their form. In 18 minutes of play, Man U nearly got an equaliser but Mata's 25 yards drive was blocked by the Reds. Sakho was tight at the back frustrating any United move. Coutinho had a chance to extend Liverpool's lead in the 24 minutes of play but De Gea was too good for the threat. At half time The Messeyside giants were still cling ...
Liverpool lead Manchester United at the halfway point of their International Champions Cup final in Miami courtesy of a Steven Gerrard penalty. The Reds skipper stepped up to convert from 12 yards after Phil Jones mistimed his 14th-minute challenge on Raheem Sterling at the Sun Life Stadium. England international Sterling was felled again in the box later in the half, but the American referee did not point to the spot for a second time, allowing United midfielder Ander Herrera a let off. It was Louis Van Gaal's side who created the first opening of the half, with Ashley Young , who scored twice last time out against Real Madrid, crossing for Javier Hernandez to narrowly guide wide. Young's delivery was a good source of United pressure throughout the opening 45 minutes, but Liverpool were the more threatening team overall as Jordan Henderson headed over before Gerrard's penalty. Philippe Coutinho would have doubled the Anfield outfit's advantage on 24 minutes had it not been for a fine save from David de G ...
A second-half fightback from Manchester United saw them beat fierce rivals Liverpool 3-1 to win the International Champions Cup in Miami's Sun Life Stadium. Steven Gerrard scored a first-half penalty for the Reds, before Wayne Rooney , Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard gave Louis Van Gaal his first piece of silverware as United manager. Glen Johnson fed Sterling inside the area on 14 minutes, and the England international was felled by Phil Jones to give the Reds skipper the chance to score from the penalty spot. Gerrard made no mistake as he confidently dispatched it to David de Gea's right-hand corner. The Anfield side had the better of the opening period and Philippe Coutinho forced De Gea into a low save with a fierce effort from outside the box after a good pass from Rickie Lambert. Following the restart, Liverpool's pressing game had United on the backfoot, and Lambert spurned a good chance when Gerrard played him in after robbing Ander Herrera of the ball around 30 yards from goal. The Reds almost had th ...

Zaha: I couldn't do anything about Moyes rift The former Crystal Palace winger doesn't know why he hardly got a look in under the Scotsman but admits he's relishing the prospect of impressing Dutchman Van Gaal By Sacha Pisani Jul 31, 2014 11:00:00 Manchester United forward Wilfried Zaha said he wants to force his way into Louis Van Gaal's plans after being frozen out by David Moyes. Zaha, 21, was Sir Alex Ferguson's final signing in charge of the club when he arrived at Old Trafford for €15 million last summer, but he played just four times under David Moyes in 2013/14. Moyes was eventually sacked after United finished seventh in the Premier League and missed out on European football altogether. With Dutchman Van Gaal now at the helm at Old Trafford, Zaha is relishing the opportunity to emerge from the shadows and stake his claim for regular football in Manchester after a forgettable season. "To be honest, if you are not the manager's cup of tea you can't do anything about it," Zaha said when asked abou ...

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has confirmed interest in Manchester United forward Javier Hernandez, after losing Diego Costa to Chelsea this summer. Simeone has already secured to the services of Mario Mandzukic, but is still in the market for more firepower as he looks to retain the La Liga title. "We speak to the sporting directors, we gave them the ideas on the type of players we want and then they get the players," the Argentine said. "With Javier Hernandez and plenty of other great players, anything is possible. We can't close the door to anyone until the transfer window closes. "He is a vertical player, great in one-on-one situations, he's a great option for any team." [Source: Express, Independent]
Louis Van Gaal maintained his unbeaten record as Manchester United boss following a penalty shootout win over Inter Milan in Washington DC. All five United penalty takers found the net in a 5-3 showdown that followed a 0-0 draw after 90 minutes. United only registered one shot on target in the first half, but they upped their game after the break. Substitute Wilfried Zaha, making his first appearance of the tour, was particularly impressive playing as a striker, as was Luke Shaw. Zaha, and Tom Cleverley were unlucky not to be awarded penalties in normal time at the FedEx Field. David de Gea only had one save to make during the match and he watched Marco Andreoli hit the bar from 12 yards, which allowed Darren Fletcher to fire home the winner. Fletcher, Ashley Young, Javier Hernandez, Cleverley and Shinji Kagawa all scored fine penalties. It was a far better performance from 12 yards than the dismal 2-1 shootout defeat to Sunderland in the Capital One Cup semi-final under David Moyes last year. After beati ...

New boss to cull 10 United players: Louis Van Gaal started work at Manchester United yesterday and a few of the papers agree on the fact that the steely Dutchman is ready to take an axe to the squad bequeathed to him by David Moyes. United have already signed Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera this summer and, according to the Mirror, Van Gaal wants to sign at least four more players, meaning a big overhaul of the squad is required. According to the Mirror: "The players poised to be shown the door by Van Gaal include Ashley Young, Wilfried Zaha, Marouane Fellaini, Bebe, Anderson, Tom Cleverley, Nani and Nick Powell. With Patrice Evra leaving for Juventus just weeks after being handed a new deal and striker Javier Hernandez open to a move elsewhere to play more regularly, Van Gaal could jettison as many as 10 of Moyes’ squad." More At The Empire Of Manchester United By HaYtHeMoViC 17 ManUtd.com's review of the 20th title moves on to November... Overview It was a mixed month at home and abroad for the Reds starting and ending on a high, for Robin Van Persie in particular, with important strikes against former club Arsenal and West Ham (United's quickest goal of the season after 33 seconds) at Old Trafford. Come-from-behind wins at Braga and Aston Villa were followed by 1-0 defeats away to Norwich and Galatasaray, but the loss in Turkey didn't matter after qualification for the knock-out stages had been secured in Portugal earlier in the month. Key moment Javier Hernandez came off the bench to inspire the Reds in a vital win at Villa Park with an impressive double (he left the pitch with the match ball but his second goal was later credited to Villa's Ron Vlaar). Andreas Weimann struck either side of half-time before Chicha entered the fray at the break and did the business in front of goal. Star man Chicharito collected ManUtd.c ...

Javier Hernandez: "I’ve never seen myself as a sub and I don’t like being one. I am tired of people seeing me that way, as a super sub."
It's a little bizarre that a team that has Robin Van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez in it looked like such a damp squib last season. They have so much fire-power, but still somehow lack cutting edge. The only possible deduction, is that they're not getting the service they need to keep producing the goods. I can't help but feel that Manchester United were massively let down by their wingers last season. With Nani desperately trying to make as little impact as possible at Old Trafford and Ashley Young doing his best to copy him, it's clear that this is a problem position for Manchester United. It's not like any of the club's other options are providing the goods either. Whilst Antonio Valencia is still capable of the occasional good game, he's also largely inconsistent. I wouldn't be surprised if Louis Van Gaal has made signing a world class winger his top summer priority. After all, adding a little more threat down the flanks could breathe fresh life into this Manchester United side. It could w ...

Man United move for Morata Let's begin with the curious rumour that Alvaro Morata is ready to jump ship at Real Madrid to join Manchester United this summer. According to The Daily Star, the 21-year-old has decided to leave the Santiago Bernabeu in pursuit of first-team football which, of course, he's bound to find at a club that already boast Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney in their armoury. Perhaps Morata should give Javier Hernandez a quick call to ask about the squad rotation policy at Old Trafford -- with no European football next season it looks like United's back-up strikers will be given even less playing time. Manuel Queimadelos Alonso/Getty Images Sadly for Real fans, young Alvaro Morata's future might lie outside Madrid. Who should get United's famous shirt numbers next season? The 7, 9 and 11 shirts are available this summer - but should Louis Van Gaal hand them to new players or promote from within? 9 Previous wearers: Sir Bobby Charlton, Andrew Cole, Dimitar Berbatov. Robin Van Persie - The Dutchman turned down the No.9 last season so as not to disappoint the fans who had already had '20' emblazoned on their new kits. But is he not the rightful heir to the throne? Edinson Cavani - Whether United need a centre-forward or not is up for debate but if Cavani came in then nobody would be disappointed to see him take it. Javier Hernandez - Chicharito saw less playing time than he arguably deserved last season but, if Van Gaal intends on giving him a more prominent role, then giving him the shirt would be a statement. Wayne Rooney - A number of observers believe the 28-year-old is far better as an out-and-out striker than a withdrawn centre-forward - perhaps it's time to recognise that. If he is to beat Sir Bobby's goal recor ...
