"Today we have slowly begun to draft the final agreement... but there are still many differences" over the text, ISNA news agency quoted Zarif as saying from Vienna. "This does not mean we have reached an agreement," said Zarif, according to IRNA news agency. "Fundamental disagreements" continue to divide Iran and the P5+1 powers -- Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States plus Germany -- he said. But Zarif said the two sides have agreed…

Iran: Human rights caught between diplomatic progress and political deadlock Op-ed written by Karim Lahidji, FIDH President, at the occasion of Rouhani’s first anniversary as the president of the country. The diplomats are delighted. One year after Hassan Rouhani was elected president, relations between Iran and Western countries are (almost) friendly. Hassan Rouhani is being hailed as a ‘reformist,’ with many newspapers touting him as the antithesis of Ahmadinejad, who was known for his belligerent rhetoric and violent anti-Semitism. Counselled by rather knowledgeable advisors, after his election Rouhani immediately undertook far-reaching negotiations on the nuclear programme in an attempt to lift the sanctions that weigh heavily on Iran’s economy. According to the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammad Javad Zarif, the nuclear negotiations in Geneva are “difficult” but are making progress, as are the discussions with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which has been author ...

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif confirms talks with in Vienna
US officials have floated a number of proposals for dealing with the escalating crisis in Iraq, including drone strikes and the dispatch of Special Forces to train and advise Iraqi troops. Washington has already announced it will send nearly 300 more military personnel to help secure its embassy in Baghdad and temporarily relocate staff out of the capital to the relatively safe Iraqi cities of Erbil and Basra, and to the US embassy in Jordan. The UN has moved 58 staff members from Baghdad to Jordan. Bahrain late on Monday became the latest country to pull all of its diplomats from Iraq. Aided by Sunni insurgent groups formed after the 2003 US invasion, Isis last week seized control of Mosul, Iraq’s second-largest city, and headed south towards Baghdad but it has been halted by rallying government forces and the re-emergence of Shia militias. The eruption of sectarian fighting in Iraq has displaced tens of thousands of civilians, rattled international markets and raised fears of an expansion of the Syria ...

The USA and its allies are backing the Islamist forces (ISIS) which are attacking the Iraqi government. The idea is to lure Iranian forces into Iraq, to support the Iraqi government, and thus start a war between the Sunni ISIS and the Shiah Iranians. The US Wall Street Journal in a report on Friday claimed that Tehran has sent two elite units of its Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) to Iraq to fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS) terrorists - an Al-Qaeda offshoot. A few hours later, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian categorically rejected the report, and told FNA that "the dispatch of Iranian military forces to Iraq is not true".On 14 June 2014, it was reported that the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has rejected claims that Tehran has dispatched its forces to Iraq. The Iranian deputy Foreign Minister also stressed Iraq's strong military capabilities, and reiterated that Iraq's armed forces are powerfully fighting agai ...

From Calvary Training Center: BRINGING SAEED HOME FROM IRAN: WILL IT BE SOON? February 7, 2014 Mike MacIntosh is working to equip a private jet with a medical ambulance. This will be used to move Saeed Abedini from Iran to Europe where his medical needs will be seen to. Then, when Saeed is able to travel, the jet will bring him home. Does this mean that Iran has agreed to release him? At the time of this writing, the meaning of Mike’s statement seems to be that he is preparing for that to happen now that Obama has finally called for his release. Pastor Mike stated that they are working with the National Law Center and need us involved in a letter writing campaign. Full page ads need to be taken out nationwide. Although the statement did not clarify the purpose of these letters and ads, I believe this is the big push for public support for Saeed’s release following Obama’s statement. JPost, 2/06/14 Column one: Iran’s bomb in the basement By Caroline B. Glick Iran either has a bomb already or is about to get one. And, having been abandoned by the White House, we face this threat alone. It is happening in slow motion, to be sure. But we are witnessing how a nuclear armed Iran is changing the face of the Middle East. For years, US leaders, including President Barack Obama, warned that a nuclear armed Iran would spark a regional arms race. And this is happening. As the Wall Street Journal’s Bret Stephens (a former Jerusalem Post editor in chief) noted this week, Turkey signed a nuclear cooperation agreement with Japan that includes “a provision allowing Turkey to enrich uranium and extract polonium, a potential material for nuclear weapons.” Saudi Arabia has long had a nuclear cooperation deal with Pakistan, whose nuclear weapons program the Saudis financed. Jordan and Egypt have both raised the prospect of developing nuclear programs. And in 2007, Israel bombed a Syrian nuclear i ...
Continuing needs for prayer in Israel and the Middle East. _ JNN News Update February 8th 2014 JNN NEWS, P.O. Box 7411, Jerusalem 91073, Israel You are awesome, O God, in your sanctuary, the God of Israel gives power and strength to His people. Ps 68:35 REPORT: NETANYAHU WILLING TO CONCEDE 90% OF JUDEA, SAMARIA: PM Binyamin Netanyahu has offered to give the Palestinian Authority full control over 90% of Judea and Samaria, according to media reports. The update is based on testimony from sources close to the secret Israel-PA talks. Netanyahus reported offer still falls short of the PAs demand to receive at least 97% of territory in the region. Netanyahu is apparently seeking to minimize the need to expel Israeli citizens from their homes in Judea and Samaria. The region is home to roughly 360,000 Israeli Jews. His latest offer would mean expelling 20-30% of them - or between 72,000 and 108,000 people. That seems like a fairly tall order, given that the government is still struggling to rehouse the roughly ...
U.S.: Tehran Enabling al-Qaeda in Syria - Jay Solomon The U.S. Treasury Department on Thursday charged that Tehran has allowed senior al-Qaeda members operating from Iranian soil to facilitate the movement of Sunni fighters into Syria. The Treasury sanctioned a senior Uzbek member of al-Qaeda, Jafar al-Uzbeki, for using Iran to move fighters into Syria, part of an al-Qaeda network operating from Iran that "operates there with the knowledge of Iranian authorities." "The network also uses Iran as a transit point for moving funding and foreign fighters through Turkey to support al-Qaeda-affiliated elements inside Syria," including the Nusra Front, the Treasury said. U.S. officials have said that cooperation with Tehran on Syria is complicated by the fact that Iranian policy on Syria is in the hands of the IRGC, not with President Rouhani or the Foreign Ministry. Secretary of State John Kerry sought to discuss Syria with Iran's Foreign Minister, Javad Zarif, last week on the sidelines of an international secu ...

See the real face of Rafzi's chanting against Israel and Jews Iran pampers Jewish hospital in capital A Jewish hospital in the Iranian capital has received about $400,000 from the government of President Hassan Rowhani, in an attempt to further unite “all ethnic groups and religions” in the Islamic Republic, the New York Times reported Thursday. While the semiofficial Mehr News Agency said the amount received was $400,000, another Iranian source, the semiofficial website Tabnak, put the figure at $200,000, and said a second installment in the same amount would be coming. The surprise donation was delivered by Rowhani’s brother, Hossein Fereydoon, after he walked into Tehran’s only Jewish hospital on Thursday. “Our government intends to unite all ethnic groups and religions, so we decided to assist you,” Fereydoon said according to the semiofficial Iranian news website Tabnak. Fereydoon also promised that more attention would be given to hospitals that traditionally serve Christian and Jewish I ...

LATEST NEWS FROM SYRIA: Iranian government threatens to undermine Syria peace talks because it was not invited to Geneva Abbas Araqchi: “Everyone knows that, without Iran, the chances of reaching an actual solution in Syria are not very big.” 23 January 2014 | Iranian government received on Sunday an unexpected invitation from the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to attend the Geneva II talks on Syria, which are due to start on Wednesday. Both the Syrian opposition and western powers had been opposed to Iran's participation unless Tehran signed up to the final statement of the previous Geneva conference in 2012. Iran had been refusing to do so. The sudden UN move appears to have been the result of pressure and misleading statements from Tehran. Ban Ki-moon said Iran's Foreign Minister had told him Tehran accepted the 2012 statement, which includes a clause concerning the formation of a transitional government in Syria. But Tehran claimed it had not agreed to anything. On the same day, the Iranian gove ...
Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif says Washington's "wishes are unlikely to come true" at upcoming talks.
Abbas keeps options open with gesture to Iran When Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif told a German TV network that Iran would support Palestinians in whatever position they take, he was not making a new policy. Successive Iranian officials have made similar pronouncements. However, Zarif's statement had a ring of credibility to it. After all, Zarif and his boss President Hassan Rouhani have been moderating Iran’s foreign policy in line with what they promised the Iranian electorate last year. Iranian officials have gotten away with such statements because of the vagueness of who represents the Palestinian people. Hard-line Iranians can justify these statements by insisting that the majority of the elected representatives to the Palestinian Legislative Council, and not the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), are the internationally accepted representatives. However, today, Iran’s relations with Hamas have deteriorated after the Islamist movement, which was based in Damascus, turned a ...
Iran nuclear talks could benefit from shift in Israel While the focus of US attention is on how to craft an agreement defining Iran’s nuclear program, the broader issue of Iran’s hostility toward Israel has long been at the center of the US-Iran divide. No real reconciliation between the US and Iran is likely while Iran is seen as an implacable foe of the most important American ally in the Middle East — a country derided in Iran since the 1979 Islamic Revolution as the “lesser Satan” to America’s “Great Satan.” Since the election of President Hassan Rouhani last summer, however, Rouhani and his Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, have changed the Islamic Republic’s discourse in a way that is making members of Israel’s military and intelligence establishment take notice, if not yet acknowledged publicly by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his supporters in the US Congress. Hassan Rouhani, Iran’s president, has more cabinet members with Ph.D. degrees from U.S. universities than Barack Obama does. In fact, Iran has more holders of American Ph.D.s in its presidential cabinet than France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, or Spain—combined. Take, for example, Rouhani’s chief of staff, Mohammad Nahavandian. He spent many years in the United States and has a Ph.D. in economics from George Washington University. Or Javad Zarif, the foreign affairs minister and chief negotiator in the recent nuclear deal between Iran and six global powers. World powers are "making progress" in talks with Iran over its contested nuclear programme, a spokesman for European Union Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton has said. The six nations - the United States, Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany - started two days of negotiations on Thursday in Geneva to try to end a decade-old standoff over Iran's nuclear intentions. "We are making progress," said EU spokesperson Michael Mann. He added that Ashton would meet the Iranian Foreign Minister, Javad Zarif, on Friday "to allow more time to work through some issues". He said diplomats from the six nations would meet early on Friday to prepare Ashton's talks with Zarif. Earlier, White House spokesperson Jay Carney said the US government would consider a limited pullback of sanctions in exchange for clear evidence that Tehran was taking steps to stop its nuclear programme from advancing. He said that Iran would have to show "concrete, verifiable measures" to address long-standing international concerns, after ...
Turkey has now shown which side it's on. Turkey and Iran sign secret intelligence cooperation pact. Ankara rolls up anti-Iran spy rings Turkish and Iranian Foreign Ministers Ahmet Davutoglu and Javad Zarif secretly signed in Ankara a pact covering intelligence cooperation between their two countries, Friday, Nov. 1, debkafile’s excusive sources report. Although a member of NATO, Turkey undertook under this accord to stop cooperating with any third countries in spying on Iran and to roll up anti-Iranian spy rings operating from its soil. Most significantly, the Erdogan government agreed to end the activities of agents collecting information on Iran from the Turkish side of the Iranian border. The details of the new pact were worked out in six weeks of discussions between Hakan Fidan, head of the Turkish MIT intelligence service and Khosrow Hosseinian, Iran’s deputy intelligence minister in charge of special duties.
