James Bond & Sean Connery

Sir Thomas Sean Connery (born 25 August 1930), better known as Sean Connery, is a Scottish actor and producer who has won an Academy Award, two BAFTA Awards (one of them being a BAFTA Academy Fellowship Award) and three Golden Globes (including the Cecil B. /5

LONDON (UPI) -- New job descriptions posted by MI5 -- the British domestic security and counter-terrorism agency -- ban hiring agents with tattoos. "Being able to blend into the background and remain covert is of paramount importance in our investigations," one job description says. Any distinguishing features such as tattoos on your face, neck or forearms would make you more recognisable to someone who is under surveillance and would therefore make you unsuitable for this role. Likewise, if you are male you will need to be 6'1 (1.86m) or under. Females must be 5'8 (1.72m) or under. The Telegraph notes that Sean Connery was forced to hide a tattoo on his forearm that says "Scotland Forever" when he played James Bond, a fictional MI6 -- MI5's foreign-affairs counterpart -- agent. The job descriptions also stress the importance of patience, good vision and hearing, communication skills and driving skills. The director general of MI5, Andrew Parker, recently said there are "mass casualty attacks against the ...
Mark Hamill talks about his role in Kingsman:Secret Service and returning to Star Wars franchise “I was a fan of his writing,” Hamill said. “I heard he wanted to talk to me about something, so I called him. He told me about the comic he was writing… Part of the plot involved kidnapping iconic Science Fiction actors, believe it or not. He said, ‘It’s sort of a mash-up.’ The comic is a throwback to the old hyper-stylized super-spy movies, like when Sean Connery was James Bond, contrasted with the sort of dystopian existence that he came from. It goes back and forth between the glamorized, idealized fantasy spy world back to this poor family living in a council house and so forth.” As one might expect from Millar, Hamill’s comic book cameo has a twist to it. In the story, the actor is rescued by a British Secret Service agent only to have a parachute open too late, sending both the agent and Hamill himself crashing to their deaths. “I laughed really hard,” said Hamill. “I thought, ‘ ...

I think Daniel Craig should play Steve Mc Queen in a biopic about the king of cools life. Then have Chris Hemsworth play James Bond. He would be more like the Sean Connery bond. Just my thoughts lol.
Sean Connery is, and always will be, the best James Bond
Lmao my brother bought me a poster of Sean Connery as James Bond
Connery then Craig "Roger Moore before Brosnan"Sean Connery is the greatest James Bond. Then Pierce Brosnan next""
Actually, I think Idris Elba would rock as James Bond. But he'll have a hard time passing as a Japanese, as Sean Connery did with such subtlety.
(James Bond is regularly pretending to be businessman like Sean Connery in You Only Live Twice or journalist Roger Moore in View to a Kill)
Out of the seven actors to play James Bond on the big screen: Only one was actually Scottish, Sean Connery. David Niven, Daniel Craig, and Roger Moore were English. Timothy Dalton was Welsh, while Pierce Brosnan and George Lazenby were Irish and Australian, respectively. Personally, for quite some time I've thought Idris Elba, who is English, was the best choice to play the next James Bond. To quote Jay-Z, "This ain't black vs. white, my *** we off that / Please tell Bill O'Reilly to fall back / Tell Rush Limbaugh to get off my balls / It's 2010, not 1864..."
Of course, Rush Limbaugh is a troll, so this is not so much about his statement. It's clickbait, nothing more - designed to get your attention before you realize there's no substance there. That being said, the logic is so flawed, it's giving me a headache, so here we go. "'He was white and Scottish. Period. That is who James Bond is, was,' Limbaugh said. 'But now Sony is suggesting that the next James Bond should be Idris Elba, a black Britain, rather than a white from Scotland. But that’s not who James Bond is and I know it’s racist to probably point this out.'" And now ... the Bonds: Sean Connery, Scottish George Lazenby, Australian David Niven, English Barry Nelson, American Roger Moore, English Timothy Dalton, English Pierce Brosnan, Irish Daniel Craig, English While a case could be made that Rush is just one of those folks who refuse to acknowledge anything after the Connery era*, he's had more than thirty years since "Never Say Never Again" to bring it up. So yeah, it is racist to point that ou ...
Sean Connery. Who would win in a fight between Highlander and James Bond? Christopher Lambert or Roger Moore?
- (No aplica al Tequila)"Shaken, not stirred" is a catchphrase of Ian Fleming's fictional British Secret Service agent James Bond, and his preference for how he wished his martini prepared. The phrase first appears in the novel Diamonds Are Forever (1956), though Bond does not actually say the line until Dr. No (1958) but says it "shaken and not stirred" instead of "shaken, not stirred." It was first uttered by the James Bond character played by Sean Connery in Goldfinger in 1964, though the villain Dr. Julius No offers this drink and utters those words in the first film, Dr. No, in 1962. It was used in numerous Bond films thereafter with the notable exceptions of You Only Live Twice, in which the drink is offered stirred, not shaken (Bond, ever the gentleman, ignores his host's gaffe, telling him the drink is perfect), and Casino Royale, in which Bond, after losing millions of dollars in a game of poker, is asked if he wants his martini shaken or stirred, snaps, "Do I look like I give a *** " This phra . ...

The next morning, Eddie Man of Action took over. Breakfast for Eddie was Hawaiian sweet bread toast and Sumatran coffee strong enough to ‘wake the dead’ and any other island man. Don’t tell your mom anything and not a word to our friends, none of ‘em. I wouldn’t trust the lot. Don’t worry, Kiddo, I’m not ‘losing my marbles.’ “Oh my God,” thought Pam. “He is losing his marbles.” When Eddie used an expression like ‘wouldn’t trust the lot’ she knew he was about to do something dashing, or something foolish, something Errol Flynn or Sean Connery-style, and his Robin Hood/James Bond antics made her worry. The Bogart ‘Kiddo’ clenched i ...

Watching "Skyfall," my first modern James Bond flick. As in I've only seen bond movies with Sean Connery or Roger Moore before this.
Burt Reynolds was offered the role of James Bond by producer Albert R. Broccoli, after Sean Connery left the franchise. Reynolds turned the role down, saying "An American can't play James Bond. It just can't be done." I would loved to see that
Ian Fleming didn't think Sean Connery looked like the James Bond he wrote. He thought Hoagy Carmichael would.
Wow! What an overwhelming response for Guyanese Shakira Baksh (now Shakira Caine). For those of you interested she can be seen in the 1975 movie "The Man Who Would Be King" co-starring her husband Michael Caine and (James Bond actor) Sean Connery. Except for the obvious one, the pics seen here of her are stills from the movie. I can't imagine why she came in 3rd and not 1st in 1967 Miss World pageant. lol.

Okay, discussion time... I had a disagreement with my son, Christopher. I posed the question "Who was your favorite Bat Man?" He said George Clooney. I strongly disagree! George Clooney is in now way shape or form the best Bat Man. In my mind, Christian Bale will always be the BEST Caped Crusader. Much like Sean Connery is the BEST James Bond. They were simply the best. Any other comments?
Sean Connery was the best James Bond hands down, but Roger Moore was my personal favorite Bond.
Today's trivia: James Bond has been played in 6 movies by Sean Connery, once by George Lazenby, 7 times by Roger Moore, twice by Timothy Dalton, 4 times by Pierce Brosnan and 3 times (so far) by Daniel Craig. The 24th Bond film will begin shooting in the fall of this year, with Craig again as the main character. Despite the fact that he's come out a little dinged from filming the last Bond movie, he says he'll play it for as long as it takes. Not willing to let that kind of devotion go unnoticed, Aston Martin has just come up with the most interesting proposition for the British actor: they offered him a free pass to drive any Aston Martin model car any time he likes for the rest of his life. Aston Martins’ top speeds are far beyond that which is legal on any road, so whenever he wants to push their limits he can contact the company and have them set up a track for him.
Sean Connery debuted as James Bond this day in 1963 as Dr. No premiered. Here he is on the beach with Ursula Andress.
TODAY IN HISTORY: 1945 U.S. and Britain celebrate VE Day(Victory in Europe). 1976 song in America was the theme to "Welcome Back Kotter". 1884 Harry S Truman was born. 1963 Sean Connery starred in his first James Bond role in "Dr No". 1886 a pharmacist named Pemberton discovered Coca Cola. We all know how that turned out. Well "this one's for you". Hope you enjoyed today's facts. Let me know. Have a great day!

Pierce Brosnan and Sean Connery were the two best James Bond actors.
Jumped on the James Bond fan wagon. Fare well Daniel Craig and HELLO Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan ^^
Barry Nelson, the First James Bond, Dies at 86 now read story it is Interesting stuff i have seen this play with Vaughan Struthers Royale ’54: How the Original 007 was Saved from Oblivion (as told by the people who saved him) Casino Royale 1954 TV Barry Nelson Think Sean Connery played the earliest 007? Think “Casino Royale” was first adapted for the screen with that nonsensical 1967 comedy starring Peter Sellers and Woody Allen? A little-seen 1954 TV oddity would have you wrong on both counts. But had things gone a little bit differently one day at a flea market, we might not have any idea how the on-screen James Bond took the infantile first step of his long motion-picture journey. First, a little background: Before John F. Kennedy’s list of favorite books – which included “From Russia with Love” – made James Bond an international sensation, Ian Fleming sold a six-month option to his first Bond novel, 1953’s “Casino Royale,” for a mere $1000 in 1954 to a producer who took the story ...

BORN ON THIS DAY: Barry Nelson (April 16, 1917 – April 7, 2007) was an actor, noted as the first actor to portray James Bond. Nelson was born Robert Haakon Nielsen in San Francisco, California. He began acting in school at the age of fifteen. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1941 and was immediately signed to a contract by Metro Goldwyn Mayer. As an MGM contract player, Nelson made his screen debut in the role as Paul Clark in Shadow of the Thin Man (1941) starring William Powell and Myrna Loy. He was the first actor to play James Bond on screen, in a 1954 adaptation of Ian Fleming's novel Casino Royale on the TV series Climax! (preceding Sean Connery's interpretation in Dr. No by eight years). Reportedly this was considered a pilot for a possible James Bond television series, though it's not known if Nelson intended to continue playing the character. Nelson played James Bond as an American agent whom some in the program call "Jimmy. In 2004, Nelson said, "At that time, no ...

Everyone seems to agree that Johnny Carson is the most iconic host of The Tonight Show. The same goes for Sean Connery and the James Bond franchise. If Johnny Carson is to The Tonight Show what Sean Connery is to James Bond then I think Jay Leno is like Roger Moore, Conan O’Brien is like Timothy Dalton and Jimmy Fallon is like Pierce Brosnan. Yes, truth.
Ready for a dry martini, shaken not stirred? I'm reading a fascinating biography of James Bond's creator, Ian Fleming, by Andrew Lycett. Fleming actually was in Intelligence during World War II, and had quite a bit in common with his hero. Which Bond is your favorite? I still vote for Sean Connery, with his manly physique and patent leather hairstyle.
Sean Connery was and is my favorite James Bond on screen. Daniel Craig is good. I wonder what Ian Fleming and Cubby Broccoli think
If your favorite actors to play James Bond doesn't start with Sean Connery and Roger Moore, quite frankly, we cant be friends.
Who is the best 007 James Bond of all time? The original Sean Connery, the one time George Lazenby, The Saint Rodger Moore, not so good Timothy Dalton, Remington Steele Pierce Brosnan, or the current Daniel Craig. You decide by commenting below.
Casino Royale...Quantum of Solace...Skyfall.It's becoming a James Bond kind of day ! (Daniel Craig my favorite James Bond. 2nd of course to Sean Connery)
Why is it soo very weird and uncomfortable when Pierce Brosnan sings in mama mia??? Is it because he's James Bond? Cause I mean Sean Connery might be comical singing.
I've had the entire Daniel Craig James Bond on in the background the last couple of days while studying. "Skyfall" is pretty much the most perfect Bond movie since Sean Connery had the role. In grand irony, it could not standalone except for every Bond movie that came before it. It not only pays homage to the James Bond mythos from the 1960s forward, combining elements of the cheek in the movies with Ian Fleming's original vision of James Bond. Additionally, the plot provides a commentary on the real-world changes that we have seen in geopolitics and espionage, and evolving norms of the spygame from the Cold War to now. In terms of all things Bond, "Skyfall" was prudently made when it was, especially timed for the 50th Anniversary of James Bond. "Skyfall" is brilliant and like any Bond movie, works best as a standalone movie. That being said, it's time to jump back on the wagon started with "Casino Royale" and "Quantum of Solace." It's time to finish the Vesper Lynd revenge trilogy. Bring back Dame Judi D ...
Movie trivia : Q. How many James Bond films did Ursula Andress play a part in? A. Two. Dr. No (1962) with Sean Connery, when she played Honey Rider, and Casino Royale (1967) with David Niven and Peter Sellers, when she played Vesper Lynd. So I've decided that every Saturday until I complete this experiment, I'm going to review all the 23 James Bond films I order of their release! I love the series and thought this would be a fun thing to try out and see what others think when I score them individually. Feel free to agree or disagree with my opinion in the comments! So lets start with the first film Dr. No, released in 1962. The first film to star legend Sean Connery, what I find most interesting about the first Bond film is how low-key it is. At its core, it's a hard-boiled detective film with 007 investigating the murder of a British operative. Even Dr. No, with his metal hands and elaborate plot (including the start of the SPECTRE organization whom Bond will fight against for the next 6 films, save Goldfinger) is a relatively subdued figure himself. What I find is the best element is that the sexual chemistry between Connery and Ursula Andress, who plays Honey Rider, is palpable, and every Bond film that came after would attempt to recap ...
I'm looking for Commander James Bond, not an overgrown stunt man. -Ian Fleming on Sean Connery
My partial list of the coolest dudes on the big screen. Feel free to add or disagree or whatever... 1. Samuel L. Jackson... The absolute coolest dude in movies today. 2. Bruce Willis... Close second to Mr. Jackson. Very close. 3. Clint Eastwood... I mean, it's Josey Wales and Dirty Harry. Very cool. 4. William Shatner... As Captain Kirk, one of the coolest. 5. Robert Downey Jr... He gets to be Sherlock Holmes AND Iron Man?! 6. Danny Trejo... Muy fresco mi amigo 7. Denzel Washington... Depends on his role. But yeah, he can get frosty. 8. Peter Weller... Dark horse, but a cool dude nonetheless. "Buckaroo Banzai" was the height of coolness. 9. Sean Connery... The name's Bond. James Bond. Cool enough to shatter penguins. 10. Daniel Craig... His name's Bond, too. More bad *** than cool. But still cool enough to be 007. 11. Bruce Dern... Cool tuff guy. Suggested by Shawn Stovall 12. John Travolta... Had to think on this one after Sharon Jones Speering suggested him. But yeah, he's been quite cool AFTER Urban Co ...
What's your favorite James Bond movie? And who do you think was a better Bond, Sean Connery or Roger Moore?
*Sean Connery on screen* Me: Hey its Anthony Hopkins! Husband: That's not Anthony Hopkins, that's James Bond.
Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Daniel Craig... Doesn't matter to me who is 007. Love me some James Bond!
I honestly don't think that Daniel Craig is a good James Bond . He's not smooth enough like Pierce Brosnan or Sean Connery

So, do people get as excited to see Timothy Dalton as they would Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan or Daniel Craig? I see Dalton and I'm like, "Eh, there's a dude who played James Bond a couple times." Jason?
Doctors say James Bond, played here by actor Daniel Craig, has a drink problem Continue reading the main story Related Stories James Bond: Cars, catchphrases and kisses Bond keeps 'bad habits' in Boyd book Vodka Martini, "shaken not stirred" - often said as part of a bad Sean Connery impersonation - is one of the most quotable lines from Bond. Yet Her Majesty's top secret agent's love of the bottle would leave him impotent and at death's door. Doctors analysing the Ian Fleming novels show James Bond polishes off the equivalent of one and a half bottles of wine every day. They say he is not the man to trust to deactivate a nuclear bomb. Doctors in Derby and Nottingham sat down to read the 14 Bond novels in their spare time. With a notebook at hand they charted every day and every drink. Excluding the 36 days Bond was in prison, hospital or rehab, the spy downed 1,150 units of alcohol in 88 days. It works out at 92 units a week - about five Vodka Martinis a day and four times the recommended maximum intake ...
Random stuff you find-out what "studying". Sean Connery co-starred in "Another Time, Another Place" is 1958 with Lana Turner. Turner's abusive gangster boy friend, Johnny Stompanato, burst onto set one day with a gun, that he started threatening turner and Connery with. Connery grabbed the gun, twisting it out of Stompanato's grasp, and used it to scare him off! This was four years before he was cast as James Bond, though it could have been a scene from one of the films -glamours blonde, bad guy with a foreign ascent, it just needed a supped up Bentley. That man is amazing.
Watchin Skyfall and I must say. James Bond. OUCH. Sean Connery, Daniel Craig, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnon, George Lazenby, David Niven. I'll give you your martini anyway you want it! Lmfao...
Good day. Went to see the James Bond exhibition, Sean Connery of course still my fav. And found out that Ian Flemings ancestors came from Aberdeen. I do like the latest James Bond also. Tonight, The Reed theater's "25 Days of Bond" marathon continues with the second James Bond film, 1963's "From Russia With Love", starring Sean Connery as 007, with Daniela Bianchi as Tatiana Romanova. The film also features two of the all-time popular Bond baddies, Rosa Klebb (played by Lotte Lenya) and Red Grant (played by Robert Shaw). It's also the first apperance for Desmond Llewelyn as Major Boothroyd, better knowns as "Q", head of the Quartermaster department of the British Secret Service. The film is the first in the series to feature the gadgets that would become famous in the film series, including a special watch for one of the baddies and a briefcase for Bond that's full of all kinds of goodies. It's also the first time we see a pre-title sequence in a Bond film, the first appearance of arch-nemesis Blofeld, a helicopter sequence, and the line "James Bond Will Return..." following the credits. While "From Russia With Love" is the second film in the series, released on Oct. 11, 1963, the Ian F ...
Gotta love The World's End. Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, the end of the world, and the best twist ending in the last few years. Oh and guest staring James Bond, no, not Sean Connery, the other one, not Daniel Craig. Timothy Dalton?? Are you serious??? He only made one ffs, Pirce Brosnan you ignorant ***
Sean Connery,George Lezenby,Roger Moore,Timothy Dalton,Pierce Brosnon and Daniel Craig all incarnations of super suave James Bond. Now as a Bond aficionado I have alway preferred Connery as Bond but I have enjoyed all of them at one time or another,so this is bordering on heresy but Daniel Craig is now the man! Throw out all the guys between him and Connery they finally got a guy who truly fits and I might as well go all in and say that the newest Bond film,'Skyfall',is the best of all, with apologies to Mr.Fleming! If you haven't seen it do it,it is well crafted in the style of one of the early films with Connery, not a bunch of gadgets to rely on, just a pair of xxxl balls!
the best James Bond(s) were Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan

According to a Daily Star Sunday poll, David Tennant was the best Doctor and Sean Connery was the best James Bond. I concur on both counts!
I have sweet memories of Turkey, as Catherine and I had visited the beautiful country in the late eighties. [If my memory serves me right, our itinerary included Cappadocia, with its mystical rock-chimney dwellings; Pamukkale, with its hot springs; the panoramic Aegean coast; as well as the archaeological site of Troy (best known for being the setting of the Trojan War), in addition to the cosmopolitan city of Istanbul, which straddled the European continent on one edge and the Asian continent on the other edge via its majestic 1.5 km long bridge spanning across the narrow Straits of Bosphorous; I remember the old city was dominated by domes and minarets; our city tour included the Blue Mosque, the Underground Cisterns, and the Grand Bazaar] in the late eighties. To be frank, three memorable action-thriller movies of the sixties were instrumental in attracting my interest in Turkey: 'From Russia with Love' (with Sean Connery as James Bond); 'Topkapi' (with Peter Ustinov) and 'That Man in Istanbul' with H ...

On this day in 1962 the first film in the James Bond series, Dr. No, premiered. Sean Connery was cast, of course, as 007 with Joseph Wiseman as the villain, Dr. No, and Ursula Andress as the first "Bond Girl" as Honey Ryder.
10/5/1962: Dr. No, starring Sean Connery, the first James Bond film is released and Ursula Andress is the first Bond Girl
This is kind of similar to seeing who the next James Bond will be. Curious if IV will be more like Sean Connery or Timothy Dalton.

I'm saddened to hear that Tom Clancy has died at age 66. "The Hunt for Red October" was one of the greatest books + movies ever and was an inspiration to a Submariner like me. "Red Storm Rising" was the ultimate, multi-theater, World War III scenario between NATO and the Soviets that I've re-read countless times. Tom has definitely influenced my fiction writing in that I'm not afraid to be too technical in my story descriptions in Submarine Warriors. He created an enduring character in Jack Ryan and allowed Sean Connery to break away from his James Bond persona and become Captain Marko Ramius. Actors like Alec Baldwin, Ben Affleck, Harrison Ford, and Chris Pine all owe him a debt of gratitude. Tom made Submariners cool in a world of larger than life Top Gun Naval Aviators. One Ping Only...
Was channel hoping on TCM last night avoiding the usual responsibilities and came across Patrick Mcgoohan playing a villain in a 1957 called *** Drivers in the last 10 minutes. Looked it up later and was astonished to find Sean Connery and David McCallum were in it as well though I missed their scenes. Plus Jill Ireland (married to McCallum at one point then to Charles Bronson) was also on board. So we had Secert Agent John Drake, James Bond and Illya Kuryakin all in the same film BEFORE their upcoming claim to fame. Prior to Danger Man/Secret Agnet was unfamiliar with McGoohan's early films other then Disney's Scarecrow of Romney Marsh (still working on a set of those books--very slowly) and Three Lives of Thomasina. Connery I first saw in Disney's Darby O'Gill and the Little People and McCallum I first saw on the Man from U.N.C.L.E. which nobody under the age of 30 seems to know anything about--sigh.
It's time I mentioned Ian Fleming, the author of the novels and stories the Bond Industry has been built on. I read many of them, and Sean Connery was always the man I visualized as James Bond. And I always will. Although I do like the new guy, Daniel Craig, and started watching again. The others.

In your opinion, who was the best James Bond? To me it's a juggle between Sean Connery and Roger Moore...
After three consecutive nights of Sean Connery as 007, I snapped. We put in Beasts of the Southern Wild for the first time. I'm afraid we're back to Bond. James Bond.
Recently finished watching all the James Bond movies in order. (It took months!) Conclusions: Sean Connery was, of course, the best ("Nobody Does it Better"!) followed closely by Daniel Craig, even tho he needs to develop a sense of humor. Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan were good, looked good, had humor and beautiful Brit accents, George Lazenby wasn't that bad, but Timothy Dalton was a total disaster. Sloppy clothes and hair, no personality. Glad he only made 2 Bond movies. . .Best Bond Girl: Ursula Andress. The old M was cute, but Judi Dench took that part to a new level. Liked the old Q, but that new kid is really appealing. Any comments? (Now we're rewatching the Indiana Jones movies, but there are only 4, so that won't take as long!)
Joss Whedon on Robert Downey Jr: “He is Iron Man. He is Iron Man in the way that Sean Connery was James Bond.” (Not the greatest comparison, given the history of Bond!)
EVENT - "Friday's Fun Facts" Fast Facts about Caribbean Islands • 007 - James Bond loves the Caribbean; films shot there include Dr No (Jamaica), Thunderball (Bahamas), Live and Let Die (Jamaica) Golden Eye (Puerto Rico) and Casino Royale (Bahamas). Sean Connery, the first Bond, lives in the Bahamas. • X marks the spot Norman Island, in the British Virgin Islands, is said to be the prototype for Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island. It fits the bill: Norman is the BVI's largest uninhabited land mass. • Tastes like chicken - A region wide delicacy called ‘mountain chicken’ is no kind of fowl, but is actually a crapaud, a local species of frog with unusually large (and delicious) legs. • Mango a go-go - There are at least 12 kinds of mango widely sold through the Caribbean. That's at least twelve reasons to go. • Songs about the Caribbean - Once they're stuck in your head you'll wish you'd never heard them: "Montego Bay" (Bobbly Bloom), "Kokomo" (The Beach Boys), "April sun in Cuba" (Drago ...
What can I say about 1995’s ”GOLDENEYE”? For one, it marked a series of firsts for the Bond franchise. The movie happened to be Pierce Brosnan’s first outing as James Bond. ”GOLDENEYE” turned out to be Dame Judi Dench’s first time portraying Bond’s MI-6 boss, “M”. And the movie also proved to be a first Bond film for director Martin Campbell, who will return eleven years later to direct 2006’s ”Casino Royale”. Brosnan’s introduction as the British agent proved to be a major success. The man had the talent and the presence to pull off the job. I must confess that originally, he did not strike me as possessing his own originally style to portray Bond. Brosnan’s Bond is a combination of both Sean Connery and Roger Moore’s styles. Brosnan’s style seemed like a combination of his two predecessors on the surface. But in time, I realized that he had his own style – that of a well-dressed dandy who hid his emotions and insecurities behind a poser façade. And yet, sometimes tha ...
Did you know that Steven Spielberg always wanted to direct a James Bond film? George Lucas was with Spielberg in Hawaii at the time. They were at the beach and Spielberg told Lucas his idea. Lucas told him that instead of doing a Bond film that he should film a story Lucas had for an adventurous archaeologist named Indiana Smith. Spielberg agreed. Then the first day of production, the character's name was changed to Indiana Jones. Spielberg always said that Bond was the "father" of Indiana Jones, which is the exact reason why Spielberg casted Sean Connery as "Indy's Father."
Legendary Scottish actor Sean Connery is most famous for his role as the original James Bond and many other celebrated roles. And while he often played the suave badass, he isn’t so different in real life. Johnny Stompanato was a famous US marine who eventually became a bodyguard and enforcer for gangster Mickey Cohen. Stompanato couldn’t exactly be characterized as a wholesome individual. After being married a couple times, he began an affair with actress Lana Turner, who just so happened to be making a movie with Sean Connery. The always jealous Stompanato once stormed onto the movie set of Turner and Connery and proceeded to point a gun at the actors. Connery, in full James Bond mode, quickly disarmed the ex-marine and gangster in front of the entire set. He then picked him up and tossed him out back, solidifying his legendary reputation.
Dr. No - The first of the famous James Bond film adventures starring Sean Connery and Ursula Andress will be shown...
Today is the birthday of Ian Fleming, who brought James Bond to the world. Yesterday was the birthday of Dashielle Hammett, who brought Sam Spade to the world. I thank them both for many hours of enjoyable reading and movie watching. I would imagine Sean Connery and Humphrey Bogart would owe debts of gratitude.
Sir Thomas Sean Connery Kt. (born 25 August 1930) known professionally as Sean Connery, is a Scottish actor and producer who has won an Academy Award, two BAFTA Awards (one of them being a BAFTA Academy Fellowship Award) and three Golden Globes (including the Cecil B. DeMille Award and a Henrietta Award). Connery is best known for portraying the character James Bond, starring in seven Bond films between 1962 and 1983 (six Eon Productions films and the non-Eon Thunderball remake, Never Say Never Again). In 1988, Connery won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Untouchables. His film career also includes such films as Marnie, The Name of the Rose, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, The Hunt for Red October, Highlander, Murder on the Orient Express, Dragonheart, and The Rock. He was knighted in July 2000. Connery has been polled as "The Greatest Living Scot" and "Scotland's Greatest Living National Treasure". In 1989, he was ...
An interesting piece of James Bond periphery, although without 007 himself...Stephen Boyd is almost channeling Sean Connery in this scene with baddy Hugh Griffith (Boyd's co-star in "Ben-Hur" and a couple others.) The story was Ian Fleming's final literary effort, and was going into production at the time of his death as a made-for TV movie. Bond director Terence Young was at the helm, pulled away from shooting "Thunderball" to make this one. Sean Connery was actually slated to be in it, but dropped out. Young had thought to make the TV version and another racier version for theatrical release, but it never happened. The project was backed by the United Nations because of its anti-drug theme...those stars who participated in this agreed to take a salary of $1.00. This film is a real curiosity!!! You can sometimes find it on DVD as "Danger Grows Wild," "Poppies are also Flowers," "The Opium Connection," "The Heroin Connection," etc.
Today suddenly died Darth Vader, James Bond, Gunnery Sergeant Tom Highway, Thulsa Doom, King Mufasa, the Inspector Harry Callahan, the cowboy William Munny, the great Walt Kowalski (Gran Torino), the infallible T-800 terminators and Roy Batty (Blade Runner Replicant). Fergie's replacement is gon be like Roger Moore playing James Bond after Sean Connery.
Today in our License To Choose series, we present Ursula Andress who appeared in the 1962 Bond flick, Dr. No as Honey Ryder opposite Sean Connery as James Bond. Andress is one Bond Girl who is distinctly remembered for the scene in which she emerges out of the sea in a bikini. The scene then had a significant impact on ladies' fashion with sales of bikinis skyrocketing and has been etched in the memories of James Bond fans. What are your thoughts on Ursula Andress? Does she figure in your list of favourite Bond Girls? Tell us. This is your License To Choose!
The best James Bond ever is Sean Connery. This is not even a discussion!! Then 2nd for me personally is Roger Moore then Pierce then Craig.
"No, Mom and Dad, there WAS a Batgirl but this one's -- okay, y'know how Roger Moore, Sean Connery, and Timothy Dalton are ALL James Bond?…"
In a James Bond marathon, its smart to pepper the Pierce Brosnon and Timothy Dalton with a healthy dose of Roger Moore and Sean Connery.
Pierce Brosnan & Sean Connery are the best James Bond ever.
James Bond portrayer Sean Connery may be a strong supporter of Scottish independence and the fictional Bond may be a native Scot hailing from Skyfall Estate in Scotland, but 007′s employer, MI-6, is, in real life, covertly working to ensure that the 2014 referendum on Scotland’s independence goes down to defeat. WMR has learned that because a majority of MI-6′s top officials and agents are Scottish, Britain’s foreign spy agency would effectively wind up as an intelligence agency without a country if Scotland votes to go its own way. MI-6 is secretly backing psychological warfare operations aimed at discrediting the leadership of the governing Scottish National Party (SNP) government led by First Minister Alexander Salmond. MI-6 has also called in support from its English-speaking intelligence partners in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand to help craft a scenario that points to an independent Scotland being vulnerable to international terrorism. An independent Scotland is seen a ...
I bought 25 films of John Wayne, 50 episodes of the Lone Ranger, and 3 Sean Connery (old James Bond), and the Platoon = $25 total =3329 mins
Now that I have seen all James Bond it's time for my official favorite/best Bonds: 1. Pierce Brosnan, 2. Sean Connery, 3. George Lazenby, 4. Andy Dalton, 5. Roger Moore, 6. Daniel Craig
Michael Crichton told me a story. He was in a restaurant and someone at a nearby table had a heart attack. Crichton’s dinner companion promptly got up, ordered people to move aside, rolled up his coat into an impromptu headrest and performed CPR until paramedics arrived. Crichton said it was like watching James Bond in action, which is appropriate since the guy that did this was Sean Connery.
Ha! I think I would have to say Sean Connery as James Bond. And second - Leroy Jethro Gibbs.
Just got to see the Oscar's "tribute" to 50 years of James Bond, courtesy of Youtube -- but, there's something seriously amiss with that montage of films -- they almost completely ignore Roger Moore. Yeah, there'a a clip or two, but most of it is Sean Connery, Daniel Craig and Timothy Dalton -- even Pierce Brosnan gets snubbed for the most part. Was there a contractual dispute that made Moore and Brosnan fall out of favor with the powers that be?
Very disappointed in the James Bond tribute from last night...if the show wasn't going to run late, and stupid stupid performances by Catherine zeta Jones and Barbara Streisand, it might have had a chance...I know now there were scheduling and time limit conflicts...but 50 years of Bond people! You can't just roll some clips and have the lady song Goldfinger and be done with it...the only way to do it justice would be it's own special with all of the Bonds of the past and present.how cool would it be to see Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig all and one stage...get jaws and oddjob up there too
Had a convo with bro in law about Sean Connery being James Bond, I thought he was on about Brian Connolly. I just need to sit & look pretty
Ursula Andress and Sean Connery during the filming of the first James Bond: Dr No (circa 1962)
Sean Connery would snub James Bond reunion because he's so rich, says George Lazenby via
50 years of James Bond will be featured at the Oscars tomorrow night. Adele and Shirley Bassey will be singing, and all of the Bond portrayers will be featured. Of course Sean Connery is the REAL 007! ♡ those early Bond books and movies.
I want Pierce Brosnan, Sean Connery, Roger Moore and Timothy Dalton, now that they're done with James Bond, to start a band: 4 Non-Bonds
Oh No no no no! Roger Moore was the man! I was to young to remember Sean Connery playing James Bond
Pierce Brosnan will always be the best "James Bond" to me! However, as for the "Older James Bond" movies... Sean Connery takes the cake!!
As much as I love the New Series of Doctor Who without the Classic Series there would be no New Series. I get annoyed when alot of the time only David Tennant and Matt Smith are mentioned/featured. And if its just about the New Series, where the mention of good ole' Chris Eccleston who brought the New Series back? Even though I haven't watched much of Hartnell I do find he is very underrated since he is the Original so to speak and Sean Connery who is the Original Bond gets more attention from fans within the James Bond fandom than Billy does within the Doctor Who fandom. Sorry I hope this hasn't come across as me being rude or selfish. :)
Sean Connery is the best James Bond but Pierce Brosnan is my favorite Bond
I have been developing a theory of sorts lately and I have finally decided to share it. I think many of you can agree. I have been pondering the most influential person in history. There are alot of people that fit this category: God, James Bond, Morgan Freeman, Sean Connery, Hitler, Alexander The Great, Mother Theresa, and I can go on and on but the on person who can get people to do anything he says.that little voice that says "oh its only five move minutes, you'll wake up in time"
Heather and I watched the DVD movie "A Time to Kill" last night- for those who haven't seen it it is based on John Grisham's first novel of the same name. Stars Sandra Bullock, Samuel L. Jackson, Matthew Mcconaughey, Oliver Platt, Ashley Judd, Kiefer Sutherland, Donald Sutherland, Kevin Spacey and, in his last major role, Patrick Mcgoohan as Judge Omar Noose. It is about a racially charged murder trial in a 1970s Mississippi town and I'd recommend it highly as an excellent drama that captures just how bad things were during that difficult period of our history. I liked it much better than Skyfall, which we watched Wednesday night. Daniel Craig still doesn't really fit my picture of James Bond (who will always be Sean Connery as far as I'm concerned) but the movie was fast-paced and reasonably entertaining.
Daniel Craig makes a good James Bond but I still say Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan were better. Skyfall gets a 3/5
A 1964 Aston Martin sold a little while back. It has a 282 horsepower engine and can go 145 miles per hour. The price? 4.6 million dollars! Why so much? It was the car that James Bond drove in the films “Goldfinger” and “Thunderball.” It has some unusual options: guns that poke through the taillights, a license plate that rotates, and best of all, an ejector seat on the passenger side! Of course, none of those features actually work. So why so much money for the car? Because James Bond, or more specifically Sean Connery, drove it in those classic films. You see, the value is not so much in the car itself, but in the one who used it. The same goes for you. Your “value” in God’s eyes has nothing to do with your own merit, or talents, or resources. Your worth is comes from the fact that Jesus Christ is living inside you, which makes you infinitely more valuable than an Aston Martin! An honest assessment of the 12 men that Jesus called to be His disciples shows us that they were far from perfect ...
Looking up all of the actors who played James Bond, I found that Sean Connery and Roger Moore played him an equal number of times, 7. David Niven played Bond in 1967 Casino Royal, which is always listed with an asterisk next to it, because it isn’t by the same company as the famous Bond films. I came across two which I had never heard of. The first person ever to play Bond was Barry Nelson who played Bond in a TV movies version of Casino Royal in 1954. Another one was Corey Burton who voiced James Bond Jr. in the 1991 US animated TV series that ran 65 episodes.
What's this I read on CNN about the NRA not liking Sean Connery? The last person I'd want to not have on my side in a gun battle is James Bond. Thank goodness Danny Trejo and 'El Mariachi' Antonio Banderas aren't on that list...oh and Ron Perlman because if you're on a battlefield you always need to be aware of where he's at...guns or not he's a pretty dangerous hombre.
The first words that come to mind when Robert Downey Jr. is discussed, would be his boyish charm, and sweet arrogance, which is displayed yet again in his latest action-adventure-movie Iron Man 2. This being the second installation in what seems to soon be a series of movies, has more explosions, more machines, and more cleverly placed puns than its predecessor. With the addition of Samuel L Jackson to the already All-Star cast lineup, there is nothing but improvement in this feature film. Robert Downey Jr. really fills the shoes of what an action hero should be in Hollywood, which is a tale as old as time. We can look back to the days of Sean Connery being James Bond, or Harrison Ford playing Indiana Jones, all of which have the same likeable characteristics. Also, to many viewers they are attracted to them by their wit and charm. The special effects department of this movie has really outdone itself when it comes to visuals in this film, as some of them are so realistic it’s hard for the movieg ...
Finished watching 'Skyfall' and 'Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.' Both freat movies that recommend watching. I laughed when M and Bond were fleeing in the original James Bond's 'Aston Martin' from the earlier Bond films with Sean Connery. He threatened to eject her when she started to complain about the car: "Go ahead. Eject me-see if I care!" lol As for the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, it is a brilliant British Comedy with an ensemble cast that includes Judi Dench. It's a feel good movie about about a bunch of retiree's starting a new adventure in their twilight years.
JAMES BOND BLU RAY Updates! In and around network tv catch up; Ravens game win; Cash Music; and cold weather - we dove in and watched 5 Bond films in our set. And so: ON HER MAJESTIES Secret Service - Without a doubt, the best bond film of any I have seen. Despite (or rather, perhaps, because) of not having Sean Connery in as Bond, Newcomer George Lazenby refreshes the screen with an amazing epic of Spy Film making. Rightly called the "Empire Strikes Back" of Bond films, its dark, heart felt, acted honestly, scripted perfectly, an has a shock ending to leave you in tears. Moments of humanness exude from Lazenbys performance (Including a real rare moment where bond sits down, at a loss as to what else to o to survive, and is "saved" by what would be the love of his life Tracy. Who would have ever imagined you would have seen James Bond fall in actual love; propose marriage; and offer to save love making for the wedding night? A woman who is his equal; his mate; his reflection. I am not so convinced about B ...
OK...Yes this ridiculously long & sappy, but have been recalling people I got to meet or interview or sometimes even know well in my 30+ years as a fashion industry editor at Fairchild Publications in Manhattan (before I had to stop working for health reasons) and was shocked to realize they included some of the best known names of modern times. Like: Mohammed Ali, Henry Kissinger, Andy Warhol (at early '80s party with Disco Diva Grace Jones), billionaire Warren Buffett, Calvin Klein, Donald Trump, James Bond movie actor Sean Connery, Bill Blass, Magic Johnson, singer Tony Bennett, Tommy Hilfiger, O.J. Simpson (before his arrest), Vera Wang, Tiger Woods, Julius "Dr.J" Erving, shoe maven Manolo Blahnik Jerry Lee Lewis, Donna Karan, menswear designer Joseph Abboud (who gave me a new suit for my daughter Leah's Bat Mitzvah), designer Kenneth Cole, CNN host Lou Dobbs (who interviewed Kenneth & me on his national TV show), tennis legends Jimmy Conners & Chris Evert, environmentalist Robert F. Kennedy Jr., TV t ...
Directed by Irvin Kershner. With Sean Connery, Kim Basinger, Klaus Maria Brandauer, Barbara Carrera. A SPECTRE agent has stolen two American nuclear warheads, and James Bond must find their targets before they are detonated.
Jan 16,1962-First day of shooting on the film Dr No with a young actor named Sean Connery in the role of James Bond. Author Ian Fleming thought the casting of Connery was a disaster, he'd much rather have Cary Grant or David Niven, directed by Alfred Hitchcock.
In response to a recent discussion (you know who you are) Sean Connery = James Bond - period. Clint Eastwood is the last living true cowboy The Shawshank Redemption IS a classic (which by the way scientists have proven is on televsion always and has been seen by more people than there are people) The best gunfight in a western = Open Range (little hint if Costner asks if you're the guy that killed his friend, answer no.) and finally, the best movie villain - Anthony Hopkins in anything he has ever done.
For those of you born after 1980, ESPN's excellent Documentary Series "30 for 30" is going to profile New York Knick Legend, current Knick Broadcaster and my childhood Idol Walt "Clyde" Frazier, The man who along with Miles Davis, Elvis, James Dean, Sean Connery (the only James Bond), Billy Dee Willams, Richard "Shaft" Roundtree and his '70's Backcourt partner on the Knicks Earl the Pearl Monroe, Invented Cool.
RIP - Actor Jon Finch Dead at 70 – Starred in Hitchcock’s FRENZY His two most famous film roles were as the man wrongly accused of being the ‘necktie strangler’ in Alfred Hitchcock’s FRENZY (1972), the director’s last great film, and the title role in Roman Polanski’s MACBETH in 1971. He may be best known for the role he turned down: that of James Bond when Cubby Broccoli was looking for a handsome British actor to replace Sean Connery for 1973′s LIVE AND Let Die. Earlier in his career, actor Jon Finch had appeared in the Hammer horror films THE VAMPIRE LOVERS and THE HORROR OF FRANKENSTEIN. He also starred in the end-of-the-world sci-fi saga THE LAST DAYS OF MAN ON EARTH (1973) from cult director Robert Fuest (THE ABOMINABLE DR. PHIBES). He was married for several years to Catrinoa MacColl, who worked regularly with director Lucio Fulci in films including THE BEYOND and HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY. Finch’s final role was a small one in Ridley Scott’s KINGDOM OF HEAVEN in 2005. The cause of ...
anyone else sitting through all the James Bond movies (and by that I mean your other half is watching and you're in the room!) I like the earlier ones for all things retro but Roger Moore was just getting too old in them tonight! We're onto Sean Connery now.
Many do prefer Sean Connery to Roger Moore, but I don't.James Bond is meant to be a 100% (
Yay! Team Generations won Trivia at Carolina Wings Conway tonight! It was so fun to have Lydia Brown who knew "Murder Most Foul" came from Hamlet & Joel Brown knew Tesla invented AC power but we ignored him, but fortunately we listened when he answered The Legend of Sleepy Hollow made a town in NY change their name. Matthew Brent McLaughlin and Margaret Ramey McLaughlin should be proud of 9 year old Zack who knew how tennis is scored & confirmed with Ben Brown that the Saints set the most yds allowed record. Marge also knew that Led Zepplin's 8 minute song, never released as a single was Stairway to Heaven but was playing pool at the time so we missed that one. Nichole Brown, Matt & I added our 2 cents wherever we could including Sean Connery's return to James Bond, Porky Pig and the Academy Awards & Richard Brown knew Jack Niklaus was the Golden Bear. We knew & argued and chose wrong between Whoopi & Demi winning the Oscar for Ghost and whether Rudy or Olivia was the Huxtables youngest child. And w ...
st The main cast of Skyfall was officially announced at a press conference held at the Corinthia Hotel in London on 3 November 2011, fifty years to the day since Sean Connery was announced to play James Bond in the film Dr. No. Daniel Craig as James Bond, agent 007. Director Sam Mendes described Bond as experiencing a "combination of lassitude, boredom, depression [and] difficulty with what he's chosen to do for a living". Judi Dench as M, the head of MI6 and Bond's commanding officer. Skyfall is Dench's seventh and final appearance in the role. Javier Bardem as Raoul Silva (born Tiago Rodriguez), the film's main antagonist. Silva is a cyberterrorist who is seeking revenge against those he holds responsible for betraying him. Bardem described Silva as "more than a villain", while Craig stated that Bond has a "very important relationship" to Silva. In casting the role, Director Sam Mendes admitted that he lobbied hard for Bardem to accept the part. Mendes saw the potential for the ...
Pierce Brosnan sucked as James Bond...lets be honest Sean Connery, Roger Moore, and Daniel Craig know what's up.
I thought James Bond was a real guy who liked to disguise himself as Sean Connery, Roger Moore, etc.
Who's your favorite Bond actor: Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosan, or Daniel Craig? LMS if you love James Bond and comment your favorite Bond actor

When Jimmy O'Connell took a job as chauffeur for 007 producers Eon Productions, it would not just be Cubby Broccoli, Roger Moore and Sean Connery he would drive to James Bond - his grandson Mark swiftly hitched a metaphorical ride too. In Catching Bullets: Memoirs of a Bond Fan, Mark O'Connell ta...
If I am reincarnated I want to be a mixture of James Bond and Burt Reynolds. The Sean Connery version, none of these other 'mo's.
Kinda thinks that the Indiana Jones series could've been akin to an American James Bond series. There's so many stories that could've been told in that universe and Jones is such a neat character, that there's no reason for it to have been so limited. And before you ask "How would you recast Harrison Ford as Jones?" Well...same way you recast Sean Connery as Bond. Do it well, and it would've been wildly successful.
Just saw the new 007 "Skyfall" movie..a must-see for all of you James Bond fans...And please forgive me, Roger Moore---after these many years with Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan---I have betrayed you...Daniel Craig is FINE!
