The Password was "class." Props to Allen Ludden, who passed on this date in 1981 at age 63. On camera he projected a great warmth, wit, intimacy and endless good cheer to viewers, although his personal life was a bit more complex. As a Phi Betta Kappa graduate in drama, with a Masters degree in English, Ludden was professorially masterful in hosting College Bowl and Password. A public service for Allen Ludden was held at the Church of the Hills at Forest Lawn-Hollywood Hills on June 11, 1981. Celebrities in attendance included fellow game show hosts Bob Barker, Jack Barry, Tom Kennedy, Bert Convy, Gene Rayburn, Monty Hall, Peter Marshall, announcer Gene Wood, plus *** Martin, Ross Martin (who died the following July 3), Ruta Lee, George Peppard, Jack Klugman, Earl Holliman, Dom DeLuise, Angie Dickinson, Garry Marshall and Carl Reiner. Widow Betty White sat between Burt Reynolds and Grant Tinker. She would later fly with Allen's remains for burial in his hometown of Mineral Point, Wisconsin.

I was reading an article that said Mickey Rooney was being considered for the role of Oscar before Jack Klugman was cast and that Art Carney was the frontrunner to play Felix like he did on Broadway. Anybody else hear this and what do you think of the potential casting?
Jack Klugman was Walter Matthau's Odd Couple replacement on Broadway, so literally the 2 best Oscars are the first 2 guys to play the part.
I was surprised to learn that Celanese sponsored a TV show on ABC in the early 1950s. It was called "Celanese Theatre" and featured live plays from leading playwrights. Several famous actors appeared on the show including Richard Burton, Karl Malden, Jack Klugman and David Niven. According to TV.com. "Celanese Theatre was a live dramatic anthology series which alternated every two weeks with "Pulitzer Prize Playhouse" on Wednesday nights. The series lasted only one season due to the stiff competition of Boxing, with the fights between Jake LaMotta & Gene Hairston, Sugar Ray Robinson & Rocky Graziano winning the timeslot. This is particularly unfortunate because in its first year on TV, Celanese put on more grownup drama than almost any of its rivals."

Did you know... ... that today is The Odd Couple Day? In 1965, Walter Matthau and Art Carney opened in The Odd Couple, one of Neil Simon's greatest theatrical triumphs. It would also become a hit on television, with Tony Randall playing the tidy Felix Ungar and Jack Klugman as slovenly sportswriter, Oscar Madison. The play opened at the Plymouth Theatre in New York City. Celebrate today by doing something odd! Or not... ;-)
Can you imagine what it might be like to have a retired, former truant officer and 30 year, former FBI agent, turned, turned around husband, turned government social worker and analyst “represent” “your” “personal history” (observable testing performance quotient - OTPQ) to his “bosses (The Machine)?” As an “X-Files” crossover, this skit is based on the work of the actor Jack Klugman, whom I have always admired for his way with the original “Twilight Zone.” In my opinion, should it count, Mr. Klugman had a delightful way of delivering surprise, mercy and contempt at the same time simply by inflection of voice and contortion of features. Incredible. The Klugman character, or, the client, enters through the waiting area and into a “chamber” set aside, not for his “agitation” to get help with government forms and is mistaken for a scheduled and expected examinee. The shadows of bureaucracy “don't neglect” to “empower” typical assistance to every designated client by e ...
It's no secret that The Twilight Zone series, and particularly the writing of Rod Serling were huge influences on me. Both the show and the story premises put forward by Serling, and many other talented writers, were decades ahead of their time. (Or was it just a better time for writing?) Among my favorite episodes of the series, Jack Klugman (most famous for his stint as Oscar Madison, the sloppy sports writer from The Odd Couple television series) stands out in "A Passage For Trumpet". Here Klugman plays a down-on-his-luck, washed-up and liquor-fueled trumpet player who finds himself at the end of his metaphorical rope. And just when he's about to cash in those chips, the universe intervenes. Here's a preview of this fantastic episode:

Loved Jack Klugman and Tony Randall in the TV series "The Odd Couple"; tonight it's the actual theater production
Watched the film M*A*S*H last night. Great! It struck me seeing it again how much better Elliot Gould and Donald Sutherland were compared to Alan Alda and Wayne Rogers. Also got me thinking about how much better Jack Lemon and Walter Matthau were compared to Tony Randall and Jack Klugman. IMHO, of course.
fungus is a plant parasite, commonly found on grains of rye (as shown here) or sometimes on other grasses such as quackgrass. The fungus infects the flowers when they're young and cause the growths you see. It induces the cells to divide (hyperplasia) and to enlarge (hypertrophy), creating the relatively large brown sclerotia to the left. These sclerotia are hard resting structures that allow the fungus to survive adverse conditions, such as winter and desiccation. In the life cycle of this organism, the sclerotia fall to the ground and overwinter, germinating in the spring to produce a stroma that contains perithecia, which produces spores to. Someday I'll have a good picture of this to put online-- the stroma are fragile and don't photograph well so far. It's really not a devastating parasite to the plant. You might think its main detriment is that is replaces one of the grains of the plant, thus reducing yield. However it also draws nutrients away from the other uninfected grains so that they become st ...
The beloved actor died today at his home, peacefully by his wife's side. Jack Klugman, Emmy Winning actor, was best known for his 1970s TV role as Oscar ...
Porvety can teach lessons that privilege cannot. Jack Klugman

If you thought Jack Klugman and Tony Randall were funny you not only are showing your age, you haven’t met Janis...
also, you should start channeling your inner Henry Fonda.or Jack Klugman. Depends on what kinda juror you want to be.
10 Comedy Shows not on Netflix I was born in 1967 and spent my childhood from 3-13 years old growing up in the seventies in Chicago, Illinois. It was not the best place to grow up, but I made it. One of the ways I did that was watching a lot of Comedies. The ten on this list are the ones that I fondly remember that aren't on Netflix. They are listed in order by their IMDb Star rating. If you can find them on DVD or VHS then they are worth a look, I promise. Here they are: 1. M.A.S.H. (1972-1983) - This Comedy set during the Korean war starred Alan Alda and Loretta Swit. It told the mis-adventures of the Soldier's in a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital and 30 years after it went off the air STILL has 8.4/10 stars. 2. The Odd Couple (1970-75) - This Comedy told the story of two Divorced Men who were room-mates, even though one was an Obsessively Clean Person and the Other was a Slob. It starred Tony Randell and Jack Klugman with Penny Marshall from Laverne & Shirley Fame as a Frequent Co-Star. It has 8.0/10 sta ...
Jonathan Winters and Jack Klugman as pool sharks! Can only be the Twilight Zone!
Anyone else enjoying the Twilight Zone Marathon today??? And the amazing actors showing up in them ... Jonathan Winters, Jack Klugman, Cloris Leachman, Joan Blondell, Shelley Fabares . . .
New Year's Day - 2014 New York City Marathons of "The Honeymooners" and "The Odd Couple" ran simultaneously on local television today, as has become customary on New Year's Day in the New York metropolitan area. These two shows were the quintessential "New York" shows of the 1950s and 1970s, respectively, in their original runs. However, the key to the incredible popularity and cultural importance of these two shows to New Yorkers lies in the genius of The Tribune Broadcasting Company's decision to make these two shows the staple of late night, post-local news reruns on WPIX - Channel 11 in New York City in the 1970s and early 1980s. Happy New Year - Jackie Gleason, Audrey Meadows, Art Carney, Joyce Randolph, Jack Klugman and Tony Randall. May the laughter generated by these gifted actors remain with us for many, many more years . . .
No, not even close. Burgess Meredith and Jack Klugman each had 4 roles, and even they're not the highest.
In Praise of Pip. One of Three legendary roles played on the TZ by Jack Klugman. Also the 3rd Bill Mumy episode.
I want Jack Klugman as my dad, Judge Judy as my mother and Sue Perkins as my sister. . That would be a fun family.
Thomas Kinkade Collectibles from The Bradford Exchange Online
Tough call today. There are marathons for The Honeymooners, The Odd Couple and The Twilight Zone today/tomorrow. What to watch? One good thing about this, is all shows are somewhat connected since Jack Klugman and Art Carney both appeared on The Twilight Zone.
Both Burgess Meredith and Jack Klugman were in 4 TWZ episodes. Whose episodes do you like better? Like the same?
About Walter and the hair for those that haven't read this: Because I periodically took time away from my primary vocation to make money, I ended up at the Cherokee Bookstore for awhile (Comic books and pulps were great money makers in those days). Fascinating clientele. , Two of the guys from Led Zeppelin came in , we used to joke with Ray Bradbury (who lived in Cheviot Hills) when he came in (I tried to get him to buy a Flash Gordon model at one point, then later a ray gun). Quietly sitting at the desk working and some English lady asked me a question and I looked up. Went completely blank and one of the rare times my jaw hit the desk, it was Julie Christie. Took me about 7-10 minutes to get the power of speech back. I’d watched Dr. Zhivago 70 times as an usher working at the theater at Wilshire and Crescent (where Jack benny used to come). I could quote the dialog. One of the few actors that absolutely blew me away in person. Jack Klugman used to come in with his kid. Cathy Lee Crosby came in to rese ...
I can't believe its three days until New Years and I haven't gotten a call to write an obituary in two weeks. Going into the holiday season last year, Charles Durning, Richard Griffiths, and Jack Klugman were all lined up on the Tarmac.
Looks like the hit tv series 'The Odd Couple' starring Jack Klugman and Tony Randall is being rebooted. Actor Matthew Perry (Chandler Bing from 'Friends') will star as Oscar (and will co-write and produce the show for CBS) while the role of Felix has not yet been cast. How do you feel about this reboot? Do you think there are any actors that could do the roles of Felix and Oscar justice? ~Lisa~
RIP Richard Griffiths (aka: Mr. Vernon Dursley) ; Joan Fontaine ; Jack Klugman ; Jonathan Winters ; and Annette Funicello. TCM ran their "TCM Remembers" ad and I was surprised and caught off guard by a couple of the names. Thought maybe others might like to know if a fondly thought of actor had passed as well. This is by no means the full list - just the ones that surprised.
Ok.. 4 Things you don't know about me (thanks Maria) 1) I am a chronic worrier 2) I have extreme fondness for Jack Klugman, Ed Asner and Wilford Brimley 3) I did NOT have my drivers license until I was 24.. I took my test in Texas, was pregnant and threw up on the Troopers Feet.. (He passed me anyway) 4) I have lived in 4 different states and in every state I lived in I met someone I knew from New York. (Forget six degrees of Kevin Bacon.. :) )
Jack Klugman Go up to random people and hold a finger gun asking did you kill my unicorn.
I don't think I can take credit for creating Jack Klugman. I did put him in a Turkish prison for murdering a hooker, however.
Penguins What I used to do between writing fits was feed my kids, ride my horse and go shopping for cat and dog food. Jack Klugman Listen to 2 completely different songs at the same time, see what it sounds like.
Excellent. I have been endorsed on LinkedIn for my skills in "Forensic Medicine" by the late Jack Klugman.
Who are you going to channel for this Martin Balsam,John Fiedler ,Lee J. Cobb,E.G. Marshall,Jack Klugman or Henry Fonda?

Okay so I'm adopting the kitten that befriended me at my apt. complex. I named him Felix. As in the TV Odd Couple with Oscar & Felix starring Jack Klugman. As in my most favorite cartoon from childhood, Felix the Cat. He's already got feathers all over the floor. I think he likes it here.
Circa 1972...Brett Somers, Jack Klugman and Tony Randall. From the television program The Odd Couple. In this...
I didn't know Jack Klugman was from Seattle.
Jack Klugman's face at 10:45 in episode 32 of 'The Twilight Zone'...

I am LOVING O's 6 Little McGhees! This show is good! The kids r cute! I gotta start watchin more cable! That's ware it's @ now. I am used 2 4 Network channels, Ch. 12, UHF! We didn't even a Ch. 20 till l8 70's. I love old school shows! I ain't trying 2 sound like 1 of them adults who b yappin bout,"bak n our day, blah, blah, blah", but we had the BEST TV then!! We were the PIONEERS!! I mean, dnt get me wrong, they got sum good tv now, but TRUE writing started n the 70's. Shows like Good Times, Maude, All n The Family, Jeffersons, Barney Miller, Quincy M.E.(1 of my FAVORITE shows! Jack Klugman was the 1st tv M.E.!), Facts of Life, Different Strokes, 3's Company, I culd go on n on. N sum were campy, but the majority had a message, n it was delivered smartly, yet funny. The Evans prayed n showed God n their lives. Maude was the 1st Feminist, who had an abortion on tv. U wuldnt hav the shows u do 2day if it wasn't 4 them! Even 8 Is Enuff!! Lol member that show?!
Reminds me of the Twilight Zone episode with Jack Klugman and Jonathan Winters about the pool shark.
I think I preferred Clancy when she was played by Jack Klugman and carrying out autopsies.
Throwback Thursday--The January 1976 issue of SHOWCASE magazine that I edited featured my cover story interview with the wonderful Leland Palmer as well as a review of RODGERS & HART that she was currently doing at the Westwood Playhouse. It was a great month for show is L.A.--LET MY PEOPLE COME at the Whisky A Go Go on the Sunset Strip, NIGHT OF THE IGUANA at the Ahmanson with Richard Chamberlain, Eleanor Parker, Dorothy McGuire, Allyn Ann McLerie and Raymond Massey (how's that for Star Quality), THE Odd Couple at the Shubert with Tony Randall and Jack Klugman, THE EFFECT OF GAMMA RAYS ON MAN IN THE MOON MARIGOLDS featured a very young and very talented Annie Potts as well as ORPHEUS DESCENDING at Group Repertory Theatre.
Watching Quincy.. Still frustrated the Emmys didn't honor Jack Klugman as they should have nor Larry Hagman. My generation has such little regard for the ones before them. Makes me sick!
I am still bitter they have him a tribute at Emmys and not Larry Hagman or Jack Klugman.
for day of the dead we need artists to commemorate the fallen of this past year and add any you wish to be on the list. Jonathan Winters, Slim Whitman, Robert Wood (kent artist), Esther Williams, Jean Stapleton, Ray Harryhausen, Jack Klugman, Lee Dorman (iron butterfly), Ravi Shankar, Larry Hagman, Alex Karras (mongo).
I agree with Adam Klugman about his amazing father Jack Klugman. Academy got this wrong!!
The older Bibi Netanyahu gets, the more he looks like Jack Klugman.
- They dis a great actor like Jack Klugman for this dopehead, typical liberal hollywood.
Nothing. We didn't do anything when James Gandolfini or Jack Klugman passed so why Tom Clancy? Let's watch Quincy M.E. instead.
Diamonesk Personalized Engagement Ring And Wedding
What has he got that I haven't got? What did he do differently? I could have killed as Oscar. I would have been great as Quincy. I wouldn't have been so hammy. Klugman overacted every scene. You want the show to be good, pick me. You want a chain-smoking *** who ruins any credibility for your project, I'll give you Klugman's number. - Norman Fell on Jack Klugman
Jack Klugman's son doesn't believe Cory Monteith deserves to be honoured at ...
The roast of Don Rickles, with Dean Martin, Rich Little, Nipsy Russell, Phyllis Dillar, Telly Savales, Jack Klugman.Wholesome, simple laughter.Priceless! With the boys :) and papa's back, too!
Equal parts excited and honoured to be playing Juror in 12 Angry Men, first played by the great Jack Klugman...
No longer will I cave to peer pressure...I enjoy the work of Jack Klugman and I don't care who knows it
“Sales Lessons from The Twilight Zone: ”The Jack Klugman episodes were really the best of the best.
Breaking Bad Spoiler: Twenty-nine minutes of the finale are devoted to a Jack Klugman 'In Memorium' reel.
Dear Glee: Can't you find someone to honor who wasn't a drug addict? Like, maybe, Jack Klugman or one of the Sandy Hook kids?
I sure have to agree with Jack Klugman's son on this one.
How Quincy was a toxicology hipster and why Jack Klugman made Richard Dawkins so angry
If Jesus really loves you, Jack Klugman's son and Cory Monteith's mother will mud wrestle at the Emmys tonight.
Yep Did you know that Jack Klugman was on an episode.
You enjoyed it on tv, now enjoy Quincy, M.E. - Seasons 1 & 2 on dvd lern2read
I love all of those. Jack Klugman was great.
Why do our noses and ears keep growing as we age? By age 60 or so we all look like Jack Klugman. You will too. Your 23 yr old babe will one day look like Jack Klugman. Get used to it.
The Emmys spend 5 minutes remembering Cory Monteith but not Jack Klugman nor Larry Hagman.Glee premiered tonight and not only didn't they dedicate the show to Cory they didn't even address his absence. Neither one got it right!!! However, I did notice that glee had more commercials than ever - probably sold at a premium because they knew the viewing audience would be incredibly high tonight.
One of my favorite “Twilight Zone” episodes is called “A Game of Pool,” notable for featuring only two actors: Jack Klugman and Jonathan Winters. In that 1961 episode, Klugman’s sad-sack…
