Liberia /laɪˈbɪəriə/, officially the Republic of Liberia, is a country in West Africa bordered by Sierra Leone to its west, Guinea to its north and Ivory Coast to its east. It covers an area of 111,369 square kilometres (43,000 sq mi) and is home to about 4 million people. English is the official language and over thirty indigenous languages are also spoken within the country. Its coastline is composed mostly of mangroves, while its more sparsely populated inland consists of forests opening onto a plateau of drier grasslands. The climate is hot and equatorial, with significant rainfall during the May–October rainy season and harsh harmattan winds the remainder of the year. The country possesses about forty percent of the remaining Upper Guinean rainforest. Liberia is the only country in Africa founded by United States colonization while occupied by native Africans. Beginning in 1820, the region was colonized by African Americans, most of whom were freed slaves. The colonists established a new coun ...
I think the media is doing a disservice to Africa by repeatedly referring to the Ebola epidemic as being in Africa or in West Africa. There are fifteen countries that are considered to be in West Africa and three have been affected by the virus.Think before condemning an entire continent that by-the-way consists of over 50 countries. "In line with the current membership of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), West Africa has been defined in Africa as including the fifteen countries of Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo."
Hey guys, I just heard Holly say that Ivory Coast is "near" West Africa. Correction: it's "IN" West Africa. ..next to Ghana.
They’re riding high again, that ruthless gang of neo-liberal interventionists who dismembered Yugoslavia in the 1990s and whose underlings introduced Factor-8 HIV-infected blood plasma to cause an AIDS crisis across the war-torn Balkans. Today the target is Africa and their newest bio-weapon of choice ebola. Indicted here are the Four Horsemen of pestilence, famine, war and death: Tony Blair, George Soros, Anthony Lake and Bernard Kouchner. Posing as saviors of humanity, these arch-criminals are charging into Africa in the service of the diabolical union between the British Crown and House of Rothschild. The devious plan to release the Zaire ebola strain into West Africa is aimed at a takeover of the rugged mineral-rich interior of Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Ivory Coast. Whoever wins the struggle for mining rights, which promise super-profits far in excess of the Blood Diamond conflicts, will be positioned as middleman between the global economy’s biggest steelmakers, particularly those in Chin ...
The primary responsibility of the leader of “any” country is to safeguard the wellbeing, security, and health of the citizens of their country. Current polls indicate that the American people have lost confidence in the elected leader of the United States, because the Obama administration is not taking the necessary steps to restrict potentially infected passengers from Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone in West Africa from entering the United States, in order to safeguard the lives and security of American citizens from being infected with the Ebola virus. The occupant of the Oval Office responsibility is to protect the health and safety of all Americans from being infected with diseases being carried by millions of infected Illegal aliens flooding across the wide open southern border. To date 22 countries have imposed travel bans on passengers with passports from West African countries (including the African nations of Togo, Gabon, the Ivory Coast, Senegal, Rwanda, Chad, South Sudan, Namibia, Angol . ...
New Ebola update. American health officials promise Ebola will never become an epidemic in the United States. But it could end up a national scourge in another way: by forcing up the price of chocolate. The two largest producers of cocoa beans—the magic ingredient that makes chocolate chocolate—are Ivory Coast (also known as Côte d’Ivoire) and Ghana, which combined provide about 60% of the world's supply. Neither country is suffering an Ebola outbreak, but they’re in the same part of West Africa that includes Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea, which are basically ground zero for the killer virus that has claimed more than 4,000 lives so far. Nigeria, which accounts for another 6% of the world’s cocoa beans, has had roughly two dozen confirmed cases of Ebola inside its borders. Cocoa production hasn’t shut down, but Ivory Coast has sealed its shared borders with Liberia and Guinea, constricting the flow of some workers who travel into the country to harvest beans. A trade group called the World ...
This is a big shout out to the Disease Control organizations in the countries Ghana and United States with regards to combating The US is a don in this matter. The country knows how to take care of business just like that. Their processes and conduct and response techniques are awesome! Ghana's however, is a little weird. So many lucky breaks? May be not. We probably have to learn from the US in the area where we toast important things, and events. Any who, back to my motherland. We are like Israel in some way when it comes to healthcare.(IMOO), .think about my motherland for a second. We are the odd one out in the sub region of West Africa. we have zero cases of Are we that special? Well, Ghana shares borders with French Speaking Countries(Togo, Ivory Coast and Burkina Fasso) and the Gulf of Guinea (GOG), (GOG is The Ocean, for those who want to be reminded). So therefore, the British Colonized Nation Ghana, English being its official language, has to deal with Border Insecurities with neighbors who spea ...

Ivory Coast, the economic powerhouse of French-speaking West Africa, replica ugg boots on Monday banned air travellers from the three countries worst-hit by the Ebola outbreak and ordered its flagship carrier Air Cote d'Ivoire to cease flights to and from them.     The measures are the latest sign of mounting anxiety about a disease that has killed nearly 1,000 people in one of the world's poorest regions and has been branded an international health emergency by the World Health Organization.     Ivory Coast has not yet registered any cases of the deadly viral disease butfake ugg boots for women is seen as vulnerable given its shared borders with Guinea and Liberia.     Chocolate maker Barry Callebaut confirmed it has cancelled a major meeting of managers in Ivory Coast, the world's top cocoa grower, due to concerns about Ebola's spread, in an indication that concern over the outbreak is hurting the regional economy.     "We have banned flights to and from countries touched by the virus, notably ...
Good morning West Africa, Ivory Coast must be call to order, why are they closing relations to their West African neighbours because of an ailment that broke out, or do they thinks that the worst afflictions of this kind of ailment cannot be meted on them by the almighty creator, Allah(God). They are closing their borders to their West Africa countries that are having ebola virus, is this not a treat to the "ECOWAS TREATIES" on the free movement of people and goods in West Africa? Including a ban on the air travel. It is not our wishes to be bedevil with this problem, but seeking the intervention of the almighty creator, Allah(God) for provrding its antidote for its cure. The ECOWAS block should look into this Ivory Coast behaviour seriously.
Dear chocolate lovers, How is the chocolate industry connected to child slave labour? West Africa supplies 69 percent of the world's cocoa, 35 percent of it comes from Ivory Coast. It is estimated that more than 1.8 million children in West Africa are involved in growing cocoa, 30 percent are under 15. In Ivory Coast alone, up to 12,000 children are victims of trafficking or slavery. Major chocolate producers such as Nestlé, Hershey's and Mars use "large amounts" of Ivory Coast cocoa. In 2001, under pressure from US Congress, Nestlé and other major chocolate companies signed an agreement to end the problem - but little was achieved.
Largest outbreak of Ebola virus in history in West Africa , and concerns are mounting that the hemorrhagic fever could spill across international borders. Here is some advice from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on how people can protect themselves against Ebola. WATCH FOR SYMPTOMS - Symptoms of Ebola include fever, headache, joint and muscle aches, weakness, diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pain, lack of appetite and in some cases bleeding. "Transmission is through direct contact with bodily fluids of an infected person, or exposure to objects such as needles that have been contaminated with infected secretions," Ebola is not contagious until symptoms appear. BODILY FLUIDS - The Ebola virus can be spread though mucus, semen, saliva, sweat, vomit, stool or blood. Monroe said it is "very unlikely" that Ebola would spread among passengers in a crowded space like a plane or train, since it requires direct contact with bodily secretions. "Most people ...
West's "Humanitarian Concern" Exposed During Ebola Outbreak The European Union and the United States pose as international humanitarians, particularly when it comes time to intervene militarily in foreign countries to disingenuously pursue their corporate-financier self-interests... They have allotted billions for invading, occupying, and reordering politically African nations like Ivory Coast, Mali, and Libya to allegedly "save the people." Now there is an Ebola pandemic sweeping West Africa, either festering in or threatening to spread to nations including French-occupied Mali, Senegal, Ivory Coast, and Liberia. Where is the "humanitarian" invasion of medical staff, mobile hospitals, equipment and cash? We see the US and Europe trying to sell the proposal to arm, fund, train Nazi militants in Ukraine, Al Qaeda/ISIS terrorists in Syria and Iraq, but no "army" of medical staff when people truly, sincerely need outside help? If you needed any crisis to illustrate just how disingenuous the West's intentions ...
Kolanut has been found to halt the deadly Ebola virus in its tracks in laboratory tests. Scientics used a compound from Garcinia kola, a plant commonly eaten in West Africa. Compounds from the plant have also proved effective against some strains of flu. If the anti-Ebola compound proves successful in animal and human trials, it will be the first medicine to successfully treat the virus that causes Ebola haemorrhagic fever – an often-fatal condition. The discovery was announced at the 16th International Botanical Congress in St Louis in the US. Four deaths per five cases The Ebola virus was first documented in 1976 after an outbreak in Zaire – now the Democratic Republic of the Congo – where 88 per cent of the 318 human cases died. More recently, a 1995 outbreak in the same country had a death rate of 81% of the 315 infected. There are four types of the virus – Ebola-Zaire, Ebola-Sudan and Ebola-Ivory Coast all affect humans, while Ebola-Reston has so far only affected monkeys and chimpanzees. How ...

CNN) - It began with a just a handful of cases in Guinea in March. But it spread quickly to two other countries and is now the deadliest outbreak of Ebola virus on record. At least 759 people in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia have been infected by Ebola since its symptoms were first observed four months ago, according to the World Health Organization. 467 of them have died. That's a 61.5 percent mortality rate. The WHO says "drastic action is needed" to contain the virus, which has spread from rural areas to cities in West Africa. It has dispatched teams of experts to the region and is holding talks this week with the health ministers from 11 countries about what to do next. Why does Ebola generate such fear? Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) describes Ebola as "one of the world's most deadly diseases." "It is a highly infectious virus that can kill up to 90% of the people who catch it, causing terror among infected communities," it says. There is also no vaccination against it. Of Ebola's five sub-types, ...

Things you might not know about France, France does not have rosy & good story to tell in our continent (Africa) especially in West & North Africa, our continent is littered with ugly scenes of French brutality, Based on the 1883 Berlin Conference (Scramble of Africa), France had a big share of West Africa where they had so many colonies. It's during its involvement in these colonies that the country showed its ugly side. French mercenaries are the most notorious & feared military unit in Africa, they'd traumatised those who pursued liberation struggle colonizers in Africa. What the French authorities did, they deployed their secret agents in their colonies to monitor and manage their raw material they looted from the continent, and quashed any danger or threat to their mineral interest in those colonies. Read what happened in Ivory Coast, Barkino Faso, Garbon, Senegal, Mali and in other part of West Africa, According to their definition what they viewed as threat or danger to their interest included peop ...

There are also many names (and spellings of the names) used in other languages to refer to the Fulɓe. Fulani in English is borrowed from the Hausa term. Fula, from Manding languages is also used in English, and sometimes s ...
ABIDJAN, June 4 (Reuters) - California-based environmental services firm WISE Solutions CDI will invest around 109 billion CFA francs ($226.35 million) under a 15-year concession to manage waste from Ivory Coast's commercial capital Abidjan, the government said. Ivory Coast - the world's top cocoa grower and French-speaking West Africa's largest economy - is pushing for heavy investments to upgrade infrastructure left neglected during a decade-long political crisis that ended in a brief 2011 war. In Abidjan, with its rapidly growing population of around 6 million, authorities have patched pot holes, repaired street lights and begun cleaning up the city's lagoon as they seek to improve its image and attract new foreign investment. WISE Solutions CDI will be responsible for solid waste management, recycling and street sweeping, government spokesman Bruno Koenig said following a cabinet meeting on Wednesday. "It's a global plan to deal with all the issues of waste collection, treatment and even the education ...
By 2060, more than half of the cocoa-producing countries in the region may be too hot to grow the crop, according to a report released by the International Center for Tropical Agriculture. If scientists can't engineer a drought-resistant cocoa tree, the international market will see a significant increase in prices, and West African nations may experience a spike in poverty, drug trafficking and food riots. Worldwide, the cocoa industry is a $5.1 billion market, with West Africa growing more than half of the 3 million tons sold annually, according to the World Cocoa Foundation (WCF). Ivory Coast and Ghana are the two largest producers, but rising temperatures will make it difficult for these countries to hold on to that lead. To read more visit:

ANCESTRAL PRIDE THE RADIANCE OF ASHANTI KINGS The Ashanti (or Asante) Empire (or Confederacy), also Asanteman (1701–1957), was a West Africa sovereign state of the ethnic Akan people of Ashanti, Brong-Ahafo, Central region, Eastern region, Greater Accra region and Western region of what is currently Southern Ghana. The Ashantis (or Asantefo) are of Akan origin, and are a powerful, militaristic and highly disciplined society of West Africa inhabiting an area known as "Akanland". Their military power, which came from effective strategy and an early adoption of European firearms, created an empire that stretched from central Ghana to present-day Benin and Ivory Coast, bordered by the Dagomba kingdom to the north and Dahomey to the east. Due to the empire's military prowess, wealth, architecture, sophisticated hierarchy and culture, the Ashanti empire had one of the largest historiographies by European, primarily British, sources of any indigenous Sub-Saharan African political entity. The Ashantis fought a ...
FYI: We were brought off the Ivory Coast of West Africa on slaveships to North America. One of the ships was called Jesus of Lubeck, so if according to prophecy this nation tongue we wouldn't understand, then how is Jesus our Hebrew God if being Hebrew we didn't understand the English tongue? Wakeup, prophecy said this nation shall come from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flieth. Now ask yourself, is it a coincidence that America's symbol is the Eagle? Now look at the map below and see that North America is far, and from the end of the earth.

Ivory Coast is re-emerging as the prime investment destination in French-speaking West Africa after a decade of political turmoil but President Alassane Ouattara must weed out corruption and promote reconciliation to keep cash flowing in.
Exodus 23:13 - And in all things that I have said unto you be circumspect: and make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of thy mouth. Once you become enlightened to the truth, you can't continue to worship the Most High in ignorance by cleaving to that which is not Yah. John 4:24 - Yah is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth(law). Israel were a Hebrew speaking people, before they fled out of Jerusalem in 70CE running from Roman Persecution. They ran into Africa and arrived on the Ivory Coast of West Africa, such as Ghana and Nigeria and Sierra Leone. Having no desire to mingle with other nations Israel didn't go into the parts of Africa that Hamitic people lived such as Egypt, Libya, Ethiopia. according to scripture Israelites did not mix with gentiles and heathen nations. Israelites stayed in Africa for 1300 years until the Africans conspired with the Arabs and sold Israel to the Europeans such as Sir John Hawkins of The British Empire.

Although English is recognized as the country's official language, Hausa, the native language of the Hausa people, is rapidly becoming the chief language of northern Nigeria. The Hausa are very influential in West Africa, both culturally and politically. God's heart is to see th ...
were did twerking come from well Comparisons have been made with traditional African dances,[4] for instance the Mapouka from West Africa which was banned from Ivory Coast's television due to its suggestive nature.[5] Twerking can carry both gendered and racialized connotations.[6] In the United States, twerking was introduced into hip-hop culture by way of the New Orleans bounce music scene. In 1993, DJ Jubilee recorded the dance tune "Do The Jubilee All" in which he chanted, "Twerk baby, twerk baby, twerk, twerk, twerk."[7] The video for the song increased the popularity of twerking. In 1995 New Orleans-based rapper Cheeky Blakk recorded the song "Twerk Something!" a call-and-response dance song dedicated to twerking. In 1997 DJ Jubilee recorded "Get Ready, Ready" in which he encouraged listeners to "Twerk it!". In 2013, twerk was added to the Oxford Dictionary Online.[8] The dictionary said the word had been around for 20 years. The word was a runner-up in the Oxford Dictionaries Word of the Year 2013. ...

BY Okinyo The truth of the matter is lets forget qualifification to the World Cup as long as the government will keep treating football like a sport rather than a business .Look at Cameroon,Nigeria,Ivory Coast and even Ghana the government that includes the presidents take the game so seriously and its part of the government agenda that is why they get motivation and now they are all qualified for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.East Africa is different where it is hard for the President to even come personally to give the players moral support .Ghana were promised each a bonus of $15,000 to beat Egypt while Egypt were given a bonus of $25,000 to beat Ghana but when our African brothers Ethiopia qualified for the play off the goverment gave them only $1000 each look at this disparity and you want players to be motivated in East Africa?Kenya is even worse because no one is concerned its every man for himself and yet we have the talent .West Africa will continue qualifying.
VISIT OF KHULAFA TO NIGERIA Ahmadiyya Jama’at Nigeria has consistently been recipients of the visits of khulafa'ul- Masih. This, among others, is a fulfillment of the prophecy “I shall convey thy message to the ends of the Earth which Allah, the Exalted vouchsafed to the Promised Messiah. With Huzurs’ visits, yet another prophecy Kings shall seek blessings from thy garment” became fulfilled. Successors to the Promised Messiah have visited Nigeria four different times – 1970, 1980, 1988 and 2004. Highlights of the visits are as follow: 1970 Hadhrat Mirza Nasir Ahmad, Third Successor to the Promised Messiah left Pakistan on April 4, 1970 for a historic visit to West Africa. Accordingly, he visited Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, The Gambia, Ivory Coast and Sierra Leone. Huzur came first to Nigeria, where he toured Lagos, Ibadan Ijebu Ode and Ilaro. The Huzur gave heart-moving lectures (which has been published as a pamphlet ‘A Message of Hope’), commissioned a number of projects as well as launched w ...
Dried and Smoked Fish Export - How to serve the demand of Africans living abroad According to a study sponsored by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations, the quantity of dried and smoked catfish, tilapia and other types of fish exported from West Africa to the United Kingdom was estimated at over 500 tonnes per year; with a retail value of nearly $20 million. Nigeria alone exports about 5 tonnes of smoked fish per month (via airfreight). Other major exporting countries are Ghana, the Ivory Coast, Senegal and Cameroon. However, with stricter regulations on food imported into the US and Europe, Africans are finding it difficult to exploit the million-dollar foreign market for smoked and dried fish. This article reveals the secrets of the trade and how you can take advantage. Dried and smoked fish export 2 The huge trade in smoked-dried fish is a consequence of the growing demand by the increasing number of Africans living in the diaspora. From 2001 to 2007, as Cabinet Minister, first as Attorney-General and Minister for Justice and later as Foreign Minister for five years, Akufo-Addo served in the government of President Kufuor with distinction. As Attorney-General, he was responsible for the repeal of the Criminal Libel Law, which had been used to intimidate the media and criminalise free speech. The repeal has enabled the Ghanaian media to become one of the most vibrant and freest in Africa. Under his chairmanship of the Legal Sector Reform Committee, the implementation of the court automation programme was initiated. As Foreign Minister, he was fully involved in the successful Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) peace efforts in Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, and Guinea Bissau, and was chairman of the ECOWAS Mediation and Security Council in 2003. June 15, 2013 Testimony # 2 Origin: Brewerville, Liberia A testimony of the power of God. Renel (Not her real name) is my first child and is nearly 16 years. Her mother and I had an affair when I was not saved and was exiled in Danane, Ivory Coast during the Liberian Civil War. With a preventive mean, we encountered one another once in 1997. After our meeting, she stopped seeing me; she did not want be this to be continued! I lived in Danane without a word from her until the war broke up in 2001. The war in Ivory Coast led me to Guinea, West Africa, where I stayed until my repatriation in 2007. After two years of stay in Monrovia, I finally decided to surrender my life to Christ. I met a lovely and one of the prettiest women in Liberia who encouraged me more to live for Christ. I have had serious family problem with my dad for which I had not spoken to him for 17 years. He disowned me at age 10! I had carried the bitterness in my heart for so long. With the help of God and a continued discipleship from my ...
Continuing my thought about the Hebrew-ims of Africa... I always hear some ignant folks say Africans never heard of God until Europeans came (of course tell that to the Ethiopians, Nubians, and Egyptians who practiced Christianity since the 4th century but I digress). So anyway I'm watching a documentary about a tribe in Ivory Coast, West Africa and they say they believe in One God who gave life to the first human couple and this couple had twins who were the first human beings who started the rest of the human race. This almost lines up VERY CLOSELY to the account given in Genesis, and these people aren't even Christians. Humanbeings always had a concept of God, however the accounts and the truth about God has been changed throughout the generations . Lets not make generalizations because we have misplaced anger about slavery. Learn you history
FIFA 2014 World Cup qualifiers! Likely group winners for the final round of qualifying matches; Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, Tunisia, Ghana, Congo (Brazzaville), Nigeria, Egypt, Algeria, Libya, and Senegal! List dominated by teams from North and West Africa!! Will the North African teams employ their dirty tactics of the past in the final qualifying round to win qualification to Brazil? I still can't forget what the Algerians did to Ghana in the 1992/93 qualifiers en route to qualifying for USA '94!
Ever wondered how high a bird can actually fly? The altitude record is held by a Rüppell's griffon Gyps rueppelli, a vulture with a 10-foot wingspan. On November 29, 1975 one was sucked into a jet engine 37,900 feet above the Ivory Coast in West Africa. I wonder if a bird hasever looked up and said " you know what fit.. I'm flying to space" The Karman line starts at relatively 61 miles up as the atmosphere gets thinner and thinner. Basically a bird would have to fly 327,000 feet straight up to witness space. I wonder has a bird ever been that ambitious?
Before ransacking the Aztec courts of Montezuma in Mexico, the Spanish conquistador Hernando Cortez noted that the king ‘took no other beverage’ except a drink made with a mysterious bean, the cocoa bean. He noted too that the king’s subjects rarely got a look-in. Because a humble mug of drinking chocolate – albeit spiced up with vanilla, spices and honey, and sometimes a local hallucinogenic mushroom – was seen as the food of the gods. Chocolate in sixteenth-century Central America was a great delicacy. And it is a shame it didn’t stay that way. […]   The human race consumes around 3million tonnes of cocoa beans a year – half a kilo for everyone on the planet. […] it has also done untold ecological damage, especially to the tropical rainforests. Cocoa, above all other crops, destroyed the jungles of West Africa from Ghana to the Ivory Coast and Cameroon. […]   Cameroon harvests some 120,000 tonnes of cocoa a year. That is not as much as the market leader, the Ivory Coast, but enough ...

Oh what bliss, to find myself in this simply beautiful capital city. Lilongwe, Malawi, you bring me memories of West Africa...Sierra Leone, Guinea, Liberia, Gambia, Senegal, Togo, Benin, Ivory Coast, I miss you. It's been a while since I saw a woman carrying a pot on her head! I want a taste of this! It's nice to see a man ride his one and only bike, and not tire of repairing it! Where did simplicity run to? I like this tallest building that is 9 stories high. People are so friendly, and none suspects none. The tellers at the bank greet you with a smile. No one looks at you weirdly when you greet them while in the elevator! And I have denied the offer to be driven to church tomorrow because I want to walk those two kilometers to get there myself, so I can be a "local" and try my Chichewa on the few I will meet. Malawi, you are so green! The corn is sprouting healthily everywhere and traffic jam is not in your vocabulary! The view from my hotel window tells me you are very fertile. The One gift I need ri . ...
If we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. (1 John 1.7 NRSV) Sometime back a young family left for West Africa. Lee and Becky Prior and their three small children packed up and moved to the Ivory Coast. A carpenter and a homemaker, Lee and Becky have joined a group called the New Tribes Mission. Their task is to translate the Bible into the language of the multiple African tribes who have yet to know the story of Jesus--to bring them the Gospel. They had made a decision to be missionaries for Christ. They had heard his call first to come to him and receive his love and then to go out and tell others the wonderful Gospel story. These young people discovered that to be missionaries they were called to "travel light." They left behind a comfortable furnished home and took with them only clothing and seven barrels of what they believed were the basic necessities of life. Are you traveling light? Are you l ...
I've begun to teach myself Hausa, one of the major languages of West Africa. Spoken in Nigeria and Niger; as well as Burkina Faso, Benin, Cameroon, Chad, Ghana and Ivory Coast. It is a Chadic language, from the Afrasan/Afroasiatic language family. This phyla (language family) includes such languages as Arabic, Berber and Hebrew. If anyone knows of any Hausa speakers, or where I can buy Hausa newspapers, please let me know.
AIDS is caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), which originated in non-human primates in Sub-Saharan Africa and was transferred to humans during the late 19th or early 20th century. Two types of HIV infect humans: HIV-1 and HIV-2. HIV-1 is more virulent, is more easily transmitted and is the cause of the vast majority of HIV infections globally.[1] The pandemic strain of HIV-1 is closely related to a virus found in the chimpanzees of the subspecies Pan troglodytes troglodytes, which lives in the forests of the Central African nations of Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Republic of Congo (or Congo-Brazzaville), and Central African Republic. HIV-2 is less transmittable and is largely confined to West Africa, along with its closest relative, a virus of the sooty mangabey (Cercocebus atys atys), an Old World monkey inhabiting southern Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and western Ivory Coast.[1][2]
pray for them (Reuters) - Pirates have attacked a British-owned cargo ship in the Gulf of Guinea, taking three crew members hostage, the vessel's owner said. The UK-flagged ship Esther C was boarded on Thursday by pirates who stole some property, took the seamen then left, said Isle of Wight-based Carisbrooke Shipping in a statement. Russia's foreign ministry said two of its citizens were among the hostages taken between the Cameroonian port of Douala and the port of Malabo in Equatorial Guinea. Armed hijackings have been on the rise in West Africa's Gulf of Guinea, an increasingly important source of oil, cocoa and metals for world markets. Armed gangs have typically targeted oil tankers and attacks on cargo ships are rarer. Carisbrooke said the remaining nine crew members on board were safe and well and the ship had continued its journey. Earlier this week a Luxembourg-flagged, French-owned petroleum products tanker hijacked off Ivory Coast was released with its crew of 17 safe. Many Gulf of Guinea pira ...
Vincent Nguini A native of Cameroon (Central Africa), guitarist, composer, and arranger, Vincent Nguini was introduced to music by his grandfather through initiation into traditional drumming (ceremonial and drum communication). While in high school he gave up the drums and diligently began playing guitar up to eight hours a day. In 1969 Vincent began playing jazz standards and pop music (The Beatles, Jimmy Hendrix, Deep Purple, The Who, Crosby Stills & Nash, Frank Zappa, etc.) performing in clubs and hotels.By 1973 Vincent made a move to West Africa where he continued to play as a band leader in Nigeria, Ghana, and the Ivory Coast. It was in West Africa where he was introduced to High Life Music. Five years later Vincent moved to Paris and performing and arranging music for various African artists. He joined Manu D'Bango's band as lead guitarist and recorded with Henry Salvador, Slim Pezin, and Dikoto of Ossi Bissa. West Africa conflicts and Insecurity: Civil War in Ivory Coast, Boko Haram Terrorism in Nigeria, Tuareg and Ansar Dine rebellion in Mali etc: According to Abdi Ismail Samatar, Professor and Chair of Geography and Global Studies at the University of Minnesota "Nearly all the states in the region have experienced misrule by governments that have failed to accommodate or tolerate competing political views or protect the integrity of public institutions/resources. The quality of leadership and nature of governance in the region is key to resolving many of the local, national and regional conflicts...Also minimising the activities of hegemonic external interests [France, U.S., Britain] that accentuate intra- and interstate conflicts in the region is crucial".
Military of Nigeria Ship House, Defense Headquarters The Nigerian Military are charged with protecting The Federal Republic of Nigeria, promoting Nigeria's global security interests, and supporting peacekeeping efforts especially in West Africa. The Nigerian Military consist of an army, a navy and an air force.[2] The military in Nigeria have played a major role in the country's history since independence. Various juntas have seized control of the country and ruled it through most of its history. Its last period of rule ended in 1999 following the sudden death of former dictator Sani Abacha in 1998, with his successor, Abdulsalam Abubakar, handing over power to the democratically elected government of Olusegun Obasanjo in 1999. Taking advantage of its role as Africa's most populated country, Nigeria has repositioned its military as an African peacekeeping force. Since 1995, the Nigerian Military through ECOMOG mandates have been deployed as peacekeepers in Liberia (1997), Ivory Coast (1997–1999), Sierra ...
Ivory Coast: Hijackers free ITRI fuel tanker: Armed hijackers have freed a fuel tanker seized last week in Ivory Coast after escaping with cargo worth $5m (£3m), its owner Brila Energy has said. The 16-member Nigerian crew on board the Panamanian-flagged vessel ITRI was released unharmed, it added. The crew was locked in a dining room while the hijackers siphoned off 5,000 tonnes of the fuel, the company said. Pirate attacks have sharply increased in recent years off West Africa. But most of these have taken place off the Nigerian coast, where oil is often stolen to be sold on the black market. On Monday, Ivorian officials said the ship had been last seen off Ghana's coast after it was seized on 16 January near the port in Ivory Coast's main city, Abidjan. Nigerian-based Brila Energy chairman Rowaye Jubril told the AP news agency that the hijackers had escaped. "The hijackers were not arrested. They escaped. The stolen cargo is estimated at about $5m," he is quoted as saying. Mr Jubril did not say where ...
TARGETING MALI - by Stephen Lendman - At issue is scrambling for Africa's resources. They're vast. They're some of the world's largest and richest. - They include oil, gas, gold, silver, diamonds, uranium, iron, copper, tin, lead, nickel, coal, cobalt, bauxite, wood, coltan, manganese, chromium, vanadium-bearing titanium, agricultural lands, and offshore fishing. AFRICOM was established to pursue them. Resource/mineral wars define America's agenda. Mali is strategically located. It's West Africa's largest country. It's more than double the size of France. It borders on seven nations. They include Algeria, Niger, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Guinea, and Cote D'Ivoire (Ivory Coast). Its northwestern area is largely arid desert or semi-desert. The Sahel runs through its central region. Rainfall and rivers make southwestern territory marginally more lush than the rest of the country. The Niger River is its most important geographic feature. It traverses the Sahel and southeastern region. It's a major tr ...
A people must always dominate his fear, tame, then act Foreign forces in Ivory Coast have brought in their luggage dictatorship Dramane Ouattara, whose massacres and other abuses are deliberately killed, even encouraged. The same dictatorship seems to be spreading slowly into the atmosphere countries in West Africa, for example in Togo and Ghana recently, reviving the now sad political models that led to the ruin of the continent since obtaining the pretense of "independence." Indeed, following the political actions of their leaders, both to their own political opposition than to their obligations to protect the individual policy, foreign in their country, in danger in the country, it is concluded that some watermark 'between these countries are moving away from democratic political model that allows different people to control the management of public and civic affairs. Many people really don't know how civilized the people of Liberia are. We were civilized long before the Eurppeans and even before the free American slaves landed on our coast. Read this piece of history of our early textiles industry: The Country cloth Perhaps the simplest woven cloth in West Africa is country cloth. It made in the interior of Liberia (Lofa County) and in a arc around it which included Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Sierra Leone and Mali. The cotton and skills to weave it probably came into the forest zone with people migrating from the Sahel because of other population pressures, war and famine. Traditionally Liberian country cloth was handspun, hand dyed and hand woven cotton, done in about four inch wide strips on a simple foot treadle loom. A standard bolt is about 36 yards long. The weaving pieces shown to the left are carved heddle pulleys, heddles, batten and reeds, boat and spinning spindles. Often the cloth was plain white, but natural dyes like indigo and kola were used to ...
I got back home Monday from a fabulous road trip which led to a 50 yr reunion of the Peace Corps group I served with in Ivory Coast, West Africa, from '62 to '64. The reunion was hosted by Drs. Hans and Peggy Neville, our doctor and his wife in Ivory Coast. They welcomed us to their lovely home in Silverthorne, Colorado. There were 31 of us who trained in Madison, Wisconsin, summer of '62. About 10 of that group were with us at the reunion. My best friend, Dr. Alonzo Smith, of Rockville MD, where he still teaches at Montgomery Co. College, met me at KCI to drive on to Silverthorne. Our deepest gratitute to my daughter Michelle Kirkland and Alonzo's wife, Susan, who made sure our "pilgrimage" was a big success.

This was as a result of the political clamp down on our family members in particular. The government got involved in a dispute with Kosmos Energy, the owner of the country's Jubilee oil field, a spat that resulted in a delay in the proceeds from the country's nascent oil trade, said Peter Pham, director of the Africa Center at the Atlantic Council. Atta Mills also was one of the only leaders in West Africa who didn't back plans for an intervention force during last year's near-Civil War in Ivory Coast. Because of its shared border, Ghana became the main smuggling route for Ivorian cocoa. The late president spent much of his career teaching at the University of Ghana. He earned a doctorate from London's School of Oriental and African Studies before becoming a Fulbright scholar at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. Atta Mills also served as vice-president under Jerry Rawlings, a coup leader who was later elected president by popular vote and surprised the world by stepping down after the 2000 vote. Malian Jihadist Group Threatens To Attack Nigeria: An al-Qaeda-linked group based in Northern Mali has promised to attack Nigeria and other West African countries involved in raising a regional force against the jihadist insurrection in Northern Mali. The French news agency, Agence France-Presse (AFP), in a report on Friday quoted the Movement for Oneness and Jihad in West Africa (MUJAO) which has taken over Northern Mali, threatening to attack the interests of countries that would join a military intervention force in that country. Nigeria is leading other Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) countries to raise a 3,270 intervention force to rid Northern Mali of a regime of religious extremists and reunite the country. Western diplomats have repeatedly warned that unless a drastic measure was taken, Northern Mali could become West Africa's Afghanistan where terrorists would be trained and deployed across the sub-region. The group, also including Ansar Dine and al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb ...

GHC (Geography, History and Civics) in Kenyan Primary Schools kinda sucked. Not only was it boring, it was also too wide. I wonder how I got by without ever getting to know what was cutting with half of the vast chapters on colonial rule in Africa. Here is a list of some of the people you had to know in and out to pass: - Lobengula - Nabongo Mumia - Kinjikitile Ngwale - Koitalel arap Samoei - Masaku - Lenana and on and on You had to know about the Khoisan, the Shona and the Ndebele, Leopard's Kopje culture, the Empire of Mone Motapa and the climatic conditions and soils that favour coffee, tea, pyrethrum, cotton, sisal and you still weren't done. You did rubber in Liberia, cocoa in Ivory Coast, copper in Zambia, land reclamation in the Netherlands, fishing in Japan, Aswan Dam in Egypt, Owenfalls in UG and Orange and Niger in South and West Africa respectively. The Gio or Dan people is an ethnic group in north-eastern Lib Gifty T. Bryanteria and in Côte d'Ivoire. The Dan are an ethnic group located in the West African countries of Liberia and Côte d'Ivoire. There are approximately 350,000 members of the group, united by the Dan language, a Mande language. Neighboring peoples include the Guere, Guro and Mano.According to tradition, the Dan and other Mande-speaking peoples migrated from East Africa to the present-day Mali and Guinea several hundred years ago and then into their current locations in Liberia and the Ivory Coast, invading the coastal region, replacing some of the Atlantic tribes and pushing back the Kru. Their waring skills were and strategies were more superior to those tribes they conquered from East Africa to today West Africa-specifically, Nimba County, Liberia. In the midst of migration, as some members of the Dan tribe also known as Beta Israel, many cultural practices changed over time. Some of their chief warriors were: Grougbay Zobaneeay w ...

The ancient kingdoms of West Africa which occupied the Coastal forest belt from Cameroon to Guinea had trading relationships with other Africans dating back to prehistoric times. However, by 1500 B.C., these ancient kingdoms not only traded along the Ivory Coast, but with the Phoenicians and other peoples. They expanded their trade to the Americas, where the evidence for an ancient African presence is overwhelming. The kingdoms which came to be known by Arabs and Europeans during the Middle Ages were already well established when much of Western Europe was still inhabited by Celtic tribes. By the 5th Century B.C., the Phoenicians were running comercial ships to several West African kingdoms. During that period, iron had been in use for about one thousand years and terracotta art was being produced at a great level of craftsmanship. Stone was also being carved with naturalistic perfection and later, bronze was being used to make various tools and instruments, as well as beautifully naturalistic works of ar ...

Latest in the fine writing series: Tina Susman's obituary of Zoey. RIP Zoey! Zoey was born in South Africa, about the same time Nelson Mandela was released from prison, and was a symbol of her homeland: mainly black, with some white; calm and resilient in the midst of upheaval. President Obama plans to issue an Executive Order Wednesday giving the Treasury Department authority to freeze the U.S.-based assets of anyone who “obstructs” implementation of the administration-backed political transition in Yemen. As unusual as this Executive Order is, Obama issued a similar one for Somalia in 2009, and it has one other precedent: “In 2006, President George W. Bush issued a similar order regarding Ivory Coast in West Africa.” Newspapers should just create a template that says that for every article: this radical and controversial power that Obama has just seized for himself has its genesis in the executive power and war theories of Bush/Cheney. Except for the power to secretly target U.S. citizens for due-process-free assassination-by-CIA and the manic war on whistleblowers — those are Obama originals — that’s a reliable claim to make, which is the point. using fear to corral the sheeple to their cause. the fallback plan of anyone in power since ever.

WEST AFRICA supplied the majority of the slaves that went to work in the Caribbean and America. In the 18th century a long stretch of West African shoreline was called the Gold Coast because of the precious metal that was found there. Other areas were given names to reflect the raw materials and resources they had. Next to the Gold Coast there was the Grain Coast and next to that the Ivory Coast. This is still the name of a country today. The strip of land in West Africa that used to be called the Gold Coast and the Grain Coast is the location for modern African countries such as Ghana, Togo and Benin. Other countries that supplied slaves were Senegal, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Nigeria and Angola. These and most countries in modern Africa had their borders created during slavery and colonization. New territories were born as a result of the desire for European nations to build an overseas empire. Traditionally these were tribal people – they didn’t have, didn’t need to have, defined country bou ...
