The camp is not a soccer camp full of rigid training exercises, nor is it designed to immediately produce champions. It is a soccer camp designed for having fun and playing with the other boys; a soccer camp spent learning to respect each other and learn new skills. It is an important time to stimulate soccer players’ sense of responsibility and to learn the important value of rules and education. The GOLDEN GOAL camps are held in some of the most famous and exclusive locations of the Italian Alps – as Cortina d’Ampezzo [Dolomites], Cavalese – Val di Fiemme [Dolomites], and Asiago Mountain Plateau – and of the Italian Adriatic Coast as the seasides of Jesolo Lido [Venice] and Lignano Sabbiadoro [Udine]. The parents of Federico, previous year participant, Ferragamo (famous Italian luxury good company) stated that the “Milan Junior Camp of Cortina D’Ampezzo was highly educational and instructive. For Federico it was a positive experience besides being lots of fun as well.” The camp applicat ...

Sept 19, 1991. At 10,531 feet in the Austrian-Italian Alps, two hikers discovered a 5,300-year-old frozen mummy from late Neolithic times. The man carried rough bow and arrows as well as a copper axe and wore a grass cloak for warmth. His shoes were made from bearskin, deer hide and tree bark. He now rests as a frozen exhibit at the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology at Bolzano, Italy. The “Iceman” was gently thawed in September 2000 in order for scientists to conduct valuable DNA analysis and determine his last meal.

Hopes fade of Higgs particle opening door to new realms soon Scientists' hopes that last summer's triumphant trapping of the particle that shaped the post-Big Bang universe would quickly open the way into exotic new realms of physics like string theory and new dimensions have faded this past week. Five days of presentations on the particle, the Higgs boson, at a scientific conference high in the Italian Alps point to it being the last missing piece in a 30-year-old cosmic blueprint and nothing more, physicists following the event say. "The chances are getting slimmer and slimmer that we are going to see something else exciting anytime soon," said physicist Pauline Gagnon from CERN near Geneva in whose Large Hadron Collider (LHC) the long-sought particle was found. And U.S. scientist Peter Woit said in his blog that the particle was looking "very much like a garden variety SM (Standard Model) Higgs", discouraging for researchers who were hoping for glimpses of breathtaking vistas beyond. That conclusion, s ...

The Waldensians January 31 The Waldensians are among history’s first evangelicals, pre-Protestants who sprang up in the 1200s in the Piedmont Alps of Italy. The movement apparently started when Peter Waldo (or Valdes) of Lyons, a wealthy French merchant, became involved in translating the Bible into his own French-Provencial. Jesus’ words in Mark 10:22—Go sell everything you own … Then come with me—so moved him that he did just that. His radical Christianity led to his expulsion from Lyons and his removal to the Italian Alps. There his message of simple discipleship took root among Alpine Christians. The Waldensians stressed love of Christ and his Word and a life of poverty. But their nonconformity invited the wrath of the church, making them targets for extermination. In 1251, for example, the Waldensians in Toulouse, France, were massacred, their town burned. Nevertheless, by 1600 20,000 Waldensians, mostly farmers and shepherds, filled the French/Italian Alps. On Easter week, 1655, 5,000 sold ...

Young John Bosco God, it is said, sends the world saints when they are most needed-not men and women of "general holiness," but specialized experts who fit into the pattern of the times and are capable of giving God's tone to their century. And so it was that on August 16, I8I5-when one era was closing in Europe with the exile of Napoleon, and the Industrial Revolution was clanging another open, "a man was sent by God whose name was John." He came to the scrubby stone cottage of Francis and Margaret Bosco on the hills of Becchi, at the foot of the Italian Alps. "A fine healthy baby," the neighbors all agreed, "fit for the soil, to take his father's place on the old homestead." But no one went further than that in predicting the child's future. Francis died only two years after John birth leaving Margaret to raise three boys by herself. She taught them that they each needed to carry his weight and help with the keep their home and farm. There were house chores to do, firewood to cut and gather, fields to p ...

The shooting of the official video for "Dome of the Warders" (out in 2013) are continuing! In January, with Danilo Mountain (the director) and his trupe, we will go again on the Italian Alps to film the second part of the video immersed in the cold mountanin Winter. The set that we chose for shooting is the valley of Mis river. This valley is located in the National Park of the Belluno Dolomites,a place characterized by hostile nature and the harsh landscape. The ancient forests of the valley grow on the rocky slopes of its mountains on which there are ancient ghost villages. This is the right place for our video! After the shoot we will post some pictures of the set and backstage, Meanwhile, if you will, on this page, there are pictures of the filming of the first part of the video. Stay tuned!

My family history: Grand Pa Matley was born and raised in the Italian Alps, his original last name was Della Maddalena, changed to Matley sometime between 1887--1900. Della means "of the" or "from the" and Maddalena was originally Magdalena or Mary Magdalen. So the name means "of the Mary Magdalen" or "from the Mary Magdalen". Mary Magdalen Christianity was in Southern France and Northern Italy. Grand Pa Matley was born within this religion and could of claimed the married couple Mary Magdalen and Jesus as his ancestors. The Da Vinci Code is family history, except instead of one remaining member of the family, there are hundreds.
Ok. I guess my post yesterday went to cyber space. So, as a recap: left Montacatini and stopped in Florence for a good part of the day. Full of history and art/sculptures. At seaside hotel for 4 days, similar to being in Miami. Group continues to tell well, easy to do with lots of wonderful vino. Today we drove to Italian Alps "Dolomites". The views were great and saw a lot of chalets on hillsides. Had a little of nuisance rain and mountain fog which detracted from seeing all of the mountain range. Now resting and meeting for our happy hour shortly. Tomorrow we go to Venice & weather looks good. Should be fun. So for now, arrivederci!

Lunch in Verres in the Italian Alps. They speak Italian and French here.
What could be more exciting and rewarding than being able to expand your family by hosting a foreign exchange student for one semester or full school year? You can request boy or girl, music lover or athlete, from Europe or from Asia, from South America or Australia and STS Foundation (STSF) will try to make it happen for you. When the student arrives, you will be treated to a new cultural experience almost as rich as the one you are providing for your new family member. For example, while you share Thanksgiving dinner with your student and explain it's origins, he/she could regale you with tales of Hannibal's crossing of the Italian Alps. When the school year is over, it is the beginning of what will become a lifelong friendship. That's what being a host family is all about. If you are interested in being a host family or know a family please inbox me your/their information and I will be happy to assist with the process.
I think he'll do it! Surrey hills don't really compare with French/Italian Alps!
The mountains of BC are the most beautiful, so are the Swiss/Italian Alps. Awesome.

It's always nice to be given an atta girl from time to time. Yesterday was nuts. I made 100lbs of Mozzarella, and 60lbs of Hatch Crema. I made 40lbs of Artichoke Parmesan Crema today. I digress. Anyway I was on the floor coming out of Jodie's office, and saw a couple with a selection of NASTY cheese. I offered my services, and put that horrible Maytag blue cheese back for some wonderful St. Agur triple cream blue. Add a little honey, and it's nirvana. I opened up the Hennings cheddar and the Collier's Welsh cheddar, which is from Wales, and made them put down the Reggiano for a little palate changing Trugole. Everyone and their mother does Parmesan, but not everyone knows about Trugole. It's a young Asiago from the Italian Alps. It starts off tart, then sharpens, finishing up creamy. I don't drink anymore, but my palate memory is still with me. A nice medium bodied red, or a dry white wine goes excellent with it. It's a great melter, and adds to Mac & Cheese, grilled cheese, or on grilled asparagus in lie ...
Who is Don Bosco? St. John Bosco, or, as he is commonly called, "Don Bosco" (the Don meaning Father), was born at Becchi, a town in the foothills of the Italian Alps, on August 16, 1815. His father died when he was two and his childhood and first years of study were filled with difficulties which include supporting himself while attending school. He overcame this problem by working at various trades, all of which he later taught his students. Don Bosco entered the Chieri Seminary and was ordained in 1841. He was stationed in Turin, an industrial center which attracted young people from neighboring towns. There he opened an "oratory" or boys club for them. Although he did not hesitate to extend his priestly services to prisons and reformatories, he gradually came to realize that his mission was to prevent youngsters from falling into crime rather then rehabilitate delinquents. Because of this insight, he opened his oratory to all boys. Soon, as many as 1,000 boys flocked to his oratory (which was just an o ...
. The Stelvio Pass, Italy Death rating: 1/10 Some roads look a lot more dangerous than they really are. But that doesn't mean it's OK to admire the alpine scenery instead of the route ahead. With more hairpins than Helena Bonham Carter, the Stelvio Pass in the Italian Alps looks like a child's scribble over the hills. Don't be fooled. The road climbs almost two kilometers and, with just a low concrete barrier between you and the steep mountain drop, it's best not to look down. A bit too much speed on one of the road's 60 180-degree corners could spell disas

Proud to see Executive Chef Sergio Sigala wearing our cycling jersey. Orso Miami Cycling Team is also present on the Italian Alps. Thank you Sergio!
I'd decided that what I needed tonight wasn't a Hugo nominee, but something a bit more low-brow so I popped in my "Time Tunnel" DVD set and watched two episodes. One was titled "The Ghost of Nero" and reminds us that Irwin Allen was an unsung pioneer of combining genres in... ah... 'unique' ways. Set in the Italian Alps during the Great War, this story featured guess-who possessing anybody who came too close. Bonus points if you can figure out which very young Italian soldier is taken over at the very end. The other episode was "Visitors from beyond the Stars", which could best be described as a precursor of Jon Favreau's "Cowboys and Aliens". Here though, the aliens don't want our gold, but our beef, beans and flour. I guess I'll now go eat a few popsicles while reading a Hugo nominee that features zombies.
In a teeny albergo high in the Italian Alps somewhat north of Lake Como. Welcomed after 12 hours on the road with unstinting hospitality :)
