Boko Haram crisis: How have Nigeria's militants become so strong? By Farouk Chothia BBC News 26 January 2015 Africa Nigeria's militant Islamist group Boko Haram is waging the most brutal insurgency in Africa. It has seized vast amounts of territory, threatening Nigeria's territorial integrity and opening a new frontier by targeting neighbouring Cameroon. Officials estimate that some three million people are affected by the humanitarian crisis caused by the five-year insurgency in the north-east. Why are the militants so lethal? The group is said to be split into numerous factions, which operate largely autonomously across northern and central Nigeria. The International Crisis Group (ICG) think-tank estimates there are six of them - the most organised and ruthless one is in Borno State, where Boko Haram has captured large swathes of territory. It first sends hundreds of foot- soldiers into a town or village. Often overwhelmed due to inadequate supplies, the Nigerian Army flees, paving the way for elite mil ...

If it takes calling Boko Haram the "Islamic State of Africa" to attract needed global attention, so be it.

Boko Haram is a terrorist organization with its roots in northeastern Nigeria, linked to insurgency stemming from north Cameroon and Niger Republic. "Boko Haram"is a Hausa name which translates roughly as"Western education is forbidden,"while the real Arabic name translates as"The Congregation of the People of Tradition for Proselytism and Jihad". The sect was founded in 2002 by the late Mohammed Yusuf who was captured and executed by Nigerian security forces in 2009. Until the government clamped down on the sect’s activities in 2009, the operations conducted by the sect were more or less peaceful. Since Abubakar Shekau, a former deputy to Yusuf’s era, violent attacks have escalated in terms of both frequency and intensity. The sect seeks to establish a "pure" Islamic state ruled by sharia, putting a stop to what it deems Westernization. It proposes that interaction with the Western world is forbidden, and also supports opposition to the Muslim establishment and the government of Nigeria. The group is ...
Boko Haram emerges as brutal Islamic State of Africa
SUPPOSE ISLAM HAD A HOLOCAUST AND NO ONE NOTICED "While Western newspapers were debating whether or not to reprint the Mohammed cartoons, in Nigeria as many as 2,000 people were massacred by the Islamic State in Nigeria, also known as Boko Haram, in what is being called the deadliest attack by the Muslim group to date. Survivors described the Islamic State setting up efficient killing teams and massacring everyone while shouting “Allahu Akbar”. "For five kilometers (three miles), I kept stepping on dead bodies until I reached Malam Karanti village, which was also deserted and burnt," one survivor said. There’s a word for that. It’s genocide. The Islamic State in Nigeria had reportedly managed to kill 2,000 people last year. This year they did it in one week. But we don’t pay much attention to what happens in Nigeria unless there’s a hashtag. No one has yet thought up a clever hashtag for the murder of 2,000 people. doesn’t really work. The Islamic State’s next target is Maiduguri, the larg ...

It is notable that preponderance of terrorists are not reluctant to go far in order that conveying their messages is filled with perverting dogmas. I think that the most effective way to eradicate terror attacks ...

2000 feared dead due to Boko Haram Islamists' rampage of terror Summary In the aftermath of the initial attack at a school in Nigeria, which resulted in the kidnapping of female students and the college library being burned to the ground, the world became transfixed by the campaign of terror by the militant extremist group, Boko Haram. This particular attack in the town of Chibok was regarded as a "classic" Boko Haram assault since (1) the Islamist militant extremist entity is highly opposed to Western education, and (2) it has often targeted institutions of higher learning. But this incident had the additional distressing element of involving the abductions of more than 200 female students, all aged between 16 and 18 years old. Boko Haram soon took responsibility for the mass abductions, while reports emerged that the girls were "sold" to Boko Haram militants for the price of $12. Parents of the female students railed against the government of Nigeria, which had done little to rescue the girls. T ...
Jonathan in Boko Haram heartland President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday made a surprise visit to the troubled northeast, which is in the grip of escalating Boko Haram violence that threatens next month’s election. An AFP reporter in the Borno State capital, Maiduguri, said the president arrived in the city shortly before 3:00 pm (1400 GMT) and was met at the airport by the state governor Kashim Shettima. He was accompanied by the chief of defence staff, Air Marshal Alex Badeh, military top brass and the national security advisor as well as about 200 soldiers. The visit — Jonathan’s first to Maiduguri since March 2013 — was shrouded in secrecy and came after a previous trip to the restive region in May last year was cancelled. Jonathan had planned to visit the remote town of Chibok, also in Borno, after Boko Haram militants kidnapped 276 girls from their school in a crime that shocked the world. The cancellation, reportedly for security reasons, dealt Jonathan a further blow in his perceived woefu ...

2,000 feared dead in Nigeria in the last few days courtesy of Boko Haram. Boko Haram is now a mini-Islamic State, with its own territory. Soon they may take over a whole state and before we know it Nigeria will be subdued. If you think ISIS is terrifying, we are not very far from experiencing the same terror this group causes. 17 people died in France in the last few dies after terror attacks and today over 200,000 people led by world leaders such as David Cameron and Angela Merkel are marching in Paris to condemn the terrorists. 2000 people are killed in Nigeria by a terror group in Nigeria and the whole world is quiet about it led by the rest of Africa. If we do not learn as Africans to fight and stand with each other we will perish and no one will care!
I am quoting a dear friend Toby Stone on Nigeria explosion: "I hope today the media will reflect that whilst we stand together to mourn and challenge the awful events in Paris, during that same week hundreds of innocent Muslims / non-Europeans were killed by Islamist terrorists around the world, including some of the worst incidents of violence by Boko Haram, the so called Islamic State, Al Qaida and others. If today we are all Charlie Hebdo, then today we are also all the 19 people blown up in a Nigerian market by a 10 year old girl with explosive strapped to her, and the 2000 (mainly Muslim) people killed by Boko Haram in Nigeria. This is a complex and global problem."

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), on Tuesday gained an unusual support for the 2015 election, as the Islamic Terrorist group in the Northeast, Boko Haram, pledged its total support for the former military ruler. Buhari is strong sympathizer and supporter of the Islamist group Boko Haram, in a lengthy press statement circulated through email by its spokesperson and a copy made available to The Nation Newspaper, Abubakar Shekau, anchored its decision on the need to deliver Nigeria, especially the northern region, from the crunching effects of poverty, underdevelopment and insecurity. It also lamented the unconcerned attitude of the President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration at the unrelenting degradation of the northern region environment, taking a hard stance also on the ...
TODAY, JANUARY 4, 2015 IN NIGERIA Remember, this is after Nigeria's action on UN Security Council ensured a resolution for Palestinian state would not pass. It also boasted about the help the Zionist state is providing it against Boko Haram. Clearly, that 'help' is NOT help. Boko Haram seize town, army base in Northern Nigeria Boko Haram militants have seized the Nigerian town of Baga after seizing a military base located close by, local officials were quoted as saying by the BBC on Sunday. Troops abandoned the base after it was attacked on Saturday, a senator in Borno State said. In the attack, the town was set ablaze and residents fled by boats to neighboring Chad, according to witnesses. Baga was the last town in the Borno State in northeast Nigeria under government control. Boko Haram has been seeking the creation of a hardline Islamic state in the north of the country since 2009.
Boko Haram, the Islamic State, and the Archipelago strategy.
At the United Nations Security Council,Nigeria abstained from a vote that would have likely given the Mammod Abass led Palestinian Authority a place in the International Criminal Court, and support an Israeli withdrawal from so called Palestinian territories by 2017. Now,would the same have happened under General Buhari?,a man that had two top traditional rulers flogged and dethroned in 1984 for their private visits to Israel. These are pertinent issues. A Buhari presidency for Nigeria is not the way to go. Nigeria, due to current global focus on Islam as a religion that favours lying in bed with terrorists groups like Boko Haram,Al Shabab,Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant,Tamil Tiger and Al Queda in the Magreb will be worse under a Buhari,a man that saliently support these groups. The monkey and the baboon are still soaked in blood just as the general said.

About 1,000,000 have been displaced, including 556 Pastors and also missionaries in the north east. This has inflicted a permanent damage to the region. It has changed the history of the Church." Pray for those affected by these sad events. Pray for each one who has been displace that where they have landed will be used of God for His glory. May the word of the Person, Word and Work of Jesus be spread abroad.

[MUST READ] Politicisation of Boko Haram Insurgency. a presentation by Lai Mohammed, National Publicity Secretary, All Progressives Congress, APC. I am here to share my personal thoughts and those of my party, the APC, on the Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria. It is certainly apt to say this platform and audience provide auspicious opportunities to correct misinformation, half- truths and endemic political manipulation of the Boko Haram insurgency by our political opponents. Since the formation of our party the All Progressives Congress (APC ) our political opponents have strenuously tried (but failed) to misinform Nigerians and the international community that the APC is linked to Boko Haram, claiming ‘our actions, utterances and body language’ supports or sympathises with Boko Haram. Of course, this deliberate political misinformation and manipulation continue to flounder and fail spectacularly, not least because successive events prove these claims to be hollow, but also that it is our political opp ...
Buhari am told is the APC presidential representative come February 2015. Congrats for winning General Buhari. But let me remind you that you once told Jonathan when he defeated you in 2011 that you would make this country ungovernable (no peace) during his administration and since then Boko Haram has become a big problem to his administration and the entire country. A child that says his mother will not sleep he too will not sleep. However, Mr. Mohammadu Buhari I sincerely welcome you to the race but you would lose and this time you would not only cry but maybe you would give yourself self exile. a religious extremist who would do anything at his disposal to turn Nigeria into an Islamic state can't rule God's own country NIGERIA. Boko Haram: The Other Islamic State By JEREMY ASHKENAS, DEREK WATKINS and ARCHIE TSE DEC. 11, 2014 While much of the world has been focused on the rise of the Islamic State, another proto-Islamic state has been waging a campaign of terror while dreaming of a caliphate in Nigeria. Since the public execution of Boko Haram's founder in 2009 by Nigerian security forces, a hard-line militant, Abubakar Shekau, has led this makeshift army of Islamist fighters through years of escalating attacks on government personnel, religious leaders, young students, crowded mosques and marketplaces. How ISIS Drives Muslims From Islam The title of the mail tells the story so beautifully. Here is an excellent and critical analysis of an emerging phenomenon that we tend to accept, coming as it does from a well known columnist, namely, Thomas L. Friedman, forwarded by Maria Wirth with the tacit comment, "a hopeful article, this time in NYT about "How ISIS Drives Muslims From Islam." Friedman introduces the subject: “THE Islamic State has visibly attracted young Muslims from all over the world to its violent movement to build a caliphate in Iraq and Syria. But here’s what’s less visible — the online backlash against the Islamic State, also known as ISIS and ISIL, by young Muslims declaring their opposition to rule by Islamic law, or Shariah, and even proudly avowing their atheism. Nadia Oweidat, a senior fellow at the New America Foundation, who tracks how Arab youths use the Internet, says the phenomenon “is mushrooming — the brutality of the Islamic State is exacerbating the issue and even p ...
Why Did Lt. Col. Ralph Peters Just Call Hillary Clinton ‘Demented’? December 9, 2014 By Matthew Burke Hillary Clinton Ralph Peters Lt. Col. Ralph Peters, appearing on FOX News with Sean Hannity on Monday, had stern criticism for 2016 Democrat presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton, who recently said that America needed to learn how to respect and empathize with our enemies, calling her “demented” and “not fit” to be president. While simultaneously condemning the still Democrat-controlled Senate Intelligence Report on torture, which Peters believes will provide aid and comfort to America’s enemies and put American lives at risk, he lambasted Hillary Clinton’s words of appeasement “And then you’ve got Hillary Clinton, my God, saying we’ve got to learn to respect our enemies, to empathize with them. Respect Al Qaeda, Boko Haram, Islamic State, even Putin? Should we respect people who behead hostages, who really do torture, unlike the CIA, which did not torture? Who engage in mass rapes, H ...

BREAKING NEWS: FORMER head of state General Yakubu Gowon has joined the chorus of those condemning the US as not being one of Nigeria's friends over its refusal to sell the government the necessary arms to combat Boko Haram. Last month, the Nigerian ambassador to the US, Ambassador Adebowale Adefuye criticised Washington for failing to come to the country's assistance in its fight against Boko Haram by refusing to sell the necessary arms and equipment to the armed forces. Washington has long used the excuse that Nigeria's armed forces commit atrocities but this has not stopped the US from selling arms to other countries like Israel, who commit worse crimes against the Palestinians. However, the US State Department has denied this, saying there has been a great deal of US military assistance to Nigeria. Jen Psaki, a US State Department official said that over the past seven months since the Boko Haram snatched 200 schoolgirls, Washington has shared intelligence with the Nigerian Army, has begun training a ...
Kano mosque attack: Handiwork of enemies of Islam and humanity - Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky By Ibrahim Usman His Eminence Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky says the recent bomb attack on worshippers at Kano central mosque on Friday was the handiwork of enemies of Islam and Muslims, who have no regard to human values. The Leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria made the statement during the commemoration of martyrdom of Imam Hasan al-Mujtabah, grandson of the Messenger of Allah, which was held at Hussainiyyah Baqiyyatullah, Zaria on Saturday. He said, no Muslims whatever his belief, could have unleased such a heinous that “only the hard hearted and stone-hearted could have done this”. He further explained that, to dissuade the people from the truth of the matter, the crime is attributed to a faceless organization called Boko Haram, whose only preoccupation had been murder and arson. “The executed similar attack same day on worshippers in a mosque in Afghanistan”, he added. “How could an organization with po ...
Mysteries in archaeology, and the public find videotaped beheadings of journalists by ISIS [Islamic State in Iraq and Syria] barbaric and shocking. This is, of course, exactly what ISIS is hoping for. It is true that Mexican drug cartels, Boko Haram and Al-Qaeda linked groups regularly decapitate enemies, but our own history is littered with such barbarism. It was common in the Greek and Roman Empires; 25% of Roman cemeteries in Norfolk, York and Towcester, England (200-400 AD) contain heads placed at the feet. 39 skulls (120-160 AD) were found at the London Wall, believed to have been victims of Roman soldiers' practice of removing the heads of enemies as trophies. In fact, Roman soldiers' tombstones were carved with images of legionnaires holding up barbarian heads. The Celts hung enemies' severed heads from horses' necks or nailed them to the front of their homes. Ancient Assyrians commonly used beheadings and impalements for sheer terror. In Mexico, a mass grave containing 20 headless Mayans at Uxul i ...
Boko Haram intensifying attacks in Cameroon – Cameroon’s defence ministry. Nigerian Islamist extremists Boko Haram are intensifying attacks in neighbouring Cameroon, targeting new villages with increasingly sophisticated weapons, as the army fears more violence in the approaching dry season. “We’re convinced that the establishment of a ‘caliphate’ (by Boko Haram) is aimed not only at Nigeria but also at Cameroon,” Leopold Nlate Ebale, commander for an elite battalion in the border zone, told AFP. Boko Haram’s leader, Abubakar Shekau, has said he wants to set up a Nigerian caliphate — recalling the actions of the Islamic State militant group which has taken over parts of Iraq and Syria. Until recently, Boko Haram had focused its attacks on several Cameroonian border posts across from towns it controls in the Nigerian state of Borno. It has also been using Cameroon as a place to rest and stock up with arms and food. But its attacks are now spreading further south into the country. Members ...
Army recaptures Chibok from insurgents –Military 56 mins ago The 7 Division of Nigerian Army on Sunday in Abuja said it had captured Chibok town in Borno State from members of Boko Haram fighters that captured the town on Friday. This information was contained in a statement by the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Col. Sani Usman. It said the military was still carrying out Mopping-Up Operation on the surrounding environment. The statement added that Chibok was fully secured. NAN recalls that the insurgents had stormed the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok on the evening of April 14 and forced 276 students onto trucks in a mass abduction. Fifty-seven of the abducted girls have since then managed to escape. The insurrection by Boko Haram, which wants to create an Islamic state in mainly Muslim Northern Nigeria, has claimed more than 10,000 lives in the past five years. They have seized more than 20 towns and villages in the northeast in recent months
Jonathan, time to sack security chiefs And when a commander is serially losing battles, what does a competent Commander-in-Chief do? President Goodluck Jonathan must act swiftly and decisively to “degrade and destroy this new brand of evil”. We cannot continue to live in denial; some of our military and intelligence forces have lost their groove; their repeated folding before the fanatical Boko Haram fighters has humiliated all Nigerians, disgusted our international partners, cost thousands of human lives and destruction of colossal property. In war, it is said that when success goes unrewarded and the most extreme failure goes unpunished, it creates a perverse incentive system that drives leaders towards a risk-averse middle, where they are more likely to find stalemate than victory. This is where we are today. About one-third of Borno State has been captured by insurgents as well as towns and territories in Yobe and Adamawa states. Aping the murderous salafist Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, the vi ...
Governor panics as Boko Haram takes another town Another town has fallen to Boko Haram, a governor said yesterday. Adamawa State Governor Bala Ngilari was at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he painted a gory picture of the sect’s attacks in his state and the accompanying humanitarian crisis. Adamawa town Mubi, also under Boko Haram’s control, had earlier been renamedMadinatul Islam(City of Islam). All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential aspirant Atiku Abubakar on Monday said the sect controls 16 local government in the Northeast. A TIME TO HEAL If it is true that the ''Bring Back Our Girls Campaign Group'' is the political wing of APC as Chief Audu Ogbeh, the Director General of the ''Buhari for President Campaign Organisation'', has said then some of it's leading figures have some hard questions to answer. Whatever happened to their claim of impartiality and neutrality when it comes to political matters? This has proved to be the lie of the century. Some of us knew all along that they were manipulating the system and using the Chibok tragedy just to embarass the Federal Government and the PDP. I smelt a rat right from the beginning when it was brought to my attention that virtually every single key figure in the Bring Back Our Girls campaign was an APC member or sympathiser and when they constantly shied away from attacking or criticising Boko Haram itself. Instead of doing that they have channeled all their anger and toxic frustrations towards the Federal Government and saved all their vitriol and hate for the President. One ...
Breaking News: Nigeria and Boko Haram Agree Ceasefire Islamist militant group Boko Haram and the Federal Government have agreed to a ceasefire. Chief of Defense Staff Alex Badeh issued an order Friday, telling all service chiefs “to comply with the ceasefire agreement between Nigeria and Boko Haram in all theaters of operations.” The text went out after Danladi Ahmadu, who calls himself the secretary-general of Boko Haram, told VOA that a cease-fire agreement had been reached. Earlier, Ahmadu and a close advisor to President Goodluck Jonathan, Ambassador Hassan Tukur, told VOA that the sides were holding talks in Saudi Arabia, aided Chadian President Idriss Deby and high-level officials from Cameroon. It would be recalled that earlier today there were insinuations of a meeting being held between the Federal government and the Islamic sect. Those talks also focused on the release more than 200 girls abducted by Boko Haram six months ago. There was no immediate word on the fate of the girls. Ahmadu, wh ...
By Ochereome Nanna “A year ago, I would have said that they (Boko Haram) were religiously motivated. But as they killed more and more Muslims, it’s hard for me to believe that they are motivated by religion. Who are these guys and what do they want? I don’t think we really understand them”. – Mr James Entwistle, US Ambassador to Nigeria. Entwistle, the ebullient and dynamic Chief Envoy of America here reportedly made this assertion in a media briefing at a private university in Yola, Adamawa State, when asked why his country was blocking efforts by Nigeria to procure arms and ammunition to tackle the Islamist insurgency in the North East. He also alleged that his country’s reluctance to sell crucial military equipment to Nigeria was based on what he described as “human rights violations” by the Nigerian military personnel. I find this very interesting and surprising, indeed. I recall that on Wednesday, November 13, 2013, the United States Government, based on the recommendations of the Bu ...
The Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) is warning today that a “strong contingent” of Islamic State (IS) “Ebola Martyrs” they had previously described in their 15 August report, and who are preparing to target the United States, have now reached the South American nation of Venezuela where at least 10 people have died showing symptoms of this feared disease during the past week. Important to note on how these “Ebola Martyrs” were able to enter Venezuela, this report says, is that IS has joined forces with the West African Islamic terror group Boko Haram to create a “Super Caliphate” they call “The Land of Alkinanana”, and which in turn, according to the Inter-University Centre for Terrorism Studies (IUCTS), is being funded by Latin American drug cartels.
The Dawn says on Malala Yousafzai having her great achievement of Nobel. Pakistan’s braveheart COURAGE is not a rare quality in Pakistan. Adversity that would break most individuals has produced some of our finest — human rights activists, journalists, not to mention ordinary people fighting against formidable odds. But Malala Yousafzai is a special case; it’s hard to find such courage in a 17-year-old coupled with a clarity of thought and an eloquence that can make cynics catch their breath and the world sit up and take notice. Yesterday, Pakistan’s braveheart won the Nobel Peace Prize, giving a nation starved of glad tidings and buffeted by crises on multiple fronts, a reason to celebrate. By awarding the prize to an education rights activist, the Nobel Committee has delivered a symbolic rebuke to the forces of regression typified by the likes of the Taliban, Boko Haram, and the Islamic State that seek to impose a system in which, aside from a slew of other depredations, children — particularl ...
September 11th – Katie Pavlich at Townhall writes that although “ISIL and ISIS literally stands for Islamic State,” O in his speech last night insisted: "ISIL is not Islamic." Where are the marches against the Islamic State? By Yasmine Bahrani [Yasmine Bahrani is a professor of journalism at American University in Dubai] This summer, many Muslims marched in the streets of London, Paris and other cities to condemn the deaths of Gazans at the hands of Israel . Of course it makes sense to protest the bombing of schools and residential buildings. I marched in the streets against Israel’s invasion of Lebanon when I was a student, and I marched against the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003. But, inexplicably, there have been no similarly large-scale demonstrations against the Islamic State for its horrific acts against Christians, Yazidis and even its fellow Muslims in Iraq and Syria. And there certainly haven’t been any marches protesting the beheading of innocents . It’s not hard to organize a march. So where are the demonstrations? This is not the first time this question has occurred to me. For years, I have wondered about this absence of public outrage. When I asked about the ...
"Allah and Muhammed are the real terrorists.I finally realized Israel was not the enemy of Palestine, it was the radical ideologies found in the Qu'ran.I came to realize that all these groups, Hamas, Hezbollah, the Islamic State, Boko Haram are basically masks for the same face, Islamic ideology, it is my recommendation that the free world should unify against this." --Mosab Hassan Yousef (son of Hamas founder and Christian convert)
From Republican Security Council: Congress Prepares For War - Major Shift From The End Of July - Obama "Is Fiddling While The World Burns" Despite President Obama's 2012 campaign claims, the war on terror is not over and won’t be soon. The good news is that Congress now appears to be sharply turning against the White House foreign policy priorities. Both the House and Senate are expected to move quickly next week on legislation authorizing military force against terrorism. Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) and Rep. Frank Wolf (R-VA) will introduce bills authorizing the use of military force against the Islamic State and other terror groups around the world, including al Nusra, Ansar al Sharia, al Shabaab and Boko Haram. Nelson said “This will ensure there’s no question that the president has the legal authority he needs to use airstrikes in Syria.” Prior to the Congressional recess, many lawmakers were urging repeal of Bush's 2002 Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) in Iraq. On July 24th, Obama's ...
The great escape Aug 27th 2014, 21:12 by E.W. | LAGOS NIGERIA’S war against Boko Haram is going from bad to worse. The country’s army, on paper the strongest in West Africa, suffered its latest humiliation in late August when some 480 soldiers fled across the border to Cameroon after coming under attack from the jihadists. Cameroon’s ministry of defence said the Nigerian troops crossed the frontier after militants attacked a military base and police station in Gamboru Ngala, in Northern Nigeria. The deserting forces apparently holed up in Maroua, some 80km (50 miles) inside Cameroon, where they were disarmed by local troops. Nigeria’s government insists this was but a “tactical manoeuvre”. It was the latest of many setbacks in the struggle to contain Boko Haram (its name means “Western education is forbidden”), which recently proclaimed an Islamic caliphate in Nigeria’s north-east, mimicking the one set up by Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. The security situation in the north has contin ...
I was pondering the photos in the Times. In the first, a mourner stoops over the face of Mohammed Deif's baby son, a tragic casualty of an assassination attempt agains his father. On another page, Jihadi "Jailer John" (alleged) stands with a knife above James Foley some minutes before the former hacks off the latter's head and lays it on his back for the video camera. There are many tasteful reasons why the murdered and decapitated James Foley may not have been shown. It is indeed gruesome... Horrific. Horrific too, the accounts from the family members of butchered and brutalized Yazidis; those who refused the chance to save themselves by conversion to the Islamic State's brand of Islam. We applaud those who aid the imperiled Yazidis, and those who attempt to save the kidnapped journalists and those who try to thwart the insidious fundamentalism. Rightly so. It is a menace in Iraq. It is the girl kidnapping menace of Boko Haram in Nigeria. It is the kind of religious expression that is a desecration of .. ...
PRESIDENT Barack Obama has authorised the use of US air strikes against Islamic militants on Iraq heightening suggestions that similar attacks may be approved against Boko Haram in Nigeria. Earlier this week, President Obama held a special America-African summit with several African leaders in Washington to discuss security among other matters. President Goodluck Jonathan was also in attendance, although it is not yet clear if both presidents have agreed on the US of US firepower against Boko Haram. Like Boko Haram, Iraq's militant Muslim insurgents known as Islamic State, have declared a holy jihad on the country and this week, seized Qaraqosh, Iraq’s biggest Christian town, forcing locals to flee. In response, President Obama authorised air strikes against the group but said the US will not send troops back into the country. President Obama said Islamic State fighters would be targeted to prevent the slaughter of religious minorities, or if they threaten US interests. Operating across northern Iraq, t ...
Political Islam: Why militants now symbolise Muslims By Anwar Iqbal Updated about 13 hours ago These militants need jobs. — Reuters photo (continued from 'Political Islam: Theory and reality') _ The most recognizable face of Political Islam today is neither a mullah nor a religious scholar. It is a militant. Until 2001, spellchecks did not recognise the word Taliban and suggested changing it to "tally bone.” Now it is recognised by all spellchecks. Names like Al Qaeda and Boko Haram are also equally recognizable. Even the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), which is a recent addition to the list of Muslim militant organizations, is known across the globe. Yet, a recent survey by Pew Research Center, Washington, shows that overwhelming majorities – 70 per cent and more – in Muslim countries reject extremism. Why, then, has the militant become the symbol of Islam across the globe? The answer is simple: The methods they use — suicide bombings, mass killings, executions and hijacking — draw im ...
EMIR OF GWOZA IN Borno State KILLED IN AN AMBUSH BY BOKO HARAM! Is this how to fight for an Islamic State? Is it the best way to enthrone Sharia Legal Code in Northern Nigeria? Is it what Islam teaches? Is this how to demonstrate that Western Education is a sin? I dont see Boko Haram as fighting in the interest of Islam. I see them as hitech, well sponsored and adequately motivated assassins. They are serial killers. If they were fighting for Islam, why are they killing Islamic clerics, scholars and imams? It is like a Christian militia, killing Pastors, Bishops, Prophets and Christian scholars. How do you reconcile that? Where is the logic? What type of logic is that? Is it logical that you are fighting for a people and you are killing the same people you claim you are fighting for? Come on, folks, these assassins are not Northerners. In his Democracy Day broadcast, President Jonathan describes Boko Haram as "foreign elements, conniving with few misguided Nigerians..." My question then is: were they also ...

Kukah traced the roots of anti-Moslem violence in Northern Nigeria to the British conquest of the Sokoto Caliphate in 1903. Northern leaders then wrongly, in his view, equated the Colonial mission with Christianity, thus breeding suspicion. More recently, Boko Haram arose, he stated, from injustice due to failure of leadership at political and religious levels. Kukah addedL “What we call Boko Haram today is just a handing over the baton in a long relay race of injustice and incompetence in government. “Yesterday, Odua Peoples’ Congress burnt, killed and ended up getting a President Olusegun Obasanjo. “Today, the Niger Delta thinks President Goodluck Jonathan is a reward for their struggles. “Why will Boko Haram not think that it is only violence that will give them a president or an Islamic State?
The Most Dangerous States of 2013 George Onmonya NEW ISSUES, Abuja The analysis of the most dangerous states of 2013 is based on crimes that has affected the generality of the people. Crimes ranging from terrorism to communal clases that has cost lives and properties. These are States that you would start praying if your children are posted there for NYSC or your husband or wives are posted there to work. (1) Borno State is the first on our list. The headquarters of Boko Haram. Boko Haram under the auspices of fighting for Islamic State massacred a lot of people and the Joint Task Force (JTF) comprising of the Nigerian security apparatus fighting them have been caught in crossfire severally where many civilians have perished. Apart from Boko Haram the JTF have been accused of extrajudicial killings and the JTF supporters would tell you that in this dangerous war, one cannot tell exactly who is innocent. Suicide bombing, ambushing, slaughtering of human beings have become the tool of the Islamists. The war ...
Creation of an Islamic State/Martyrdom: The highest reward of $7Million out of $23Million posted by Washington to help track down five leaders of militant groups accused of spreading terror in West Africa was offered for Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau who last week called on like-minded islamists in countries including Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq to join the bloody fight to create an 'Islamic State in Nigeria'. The announcement of the reward acknowledge the growing links between AQIM and Boko Haram. Many skeptics underestimated the islamist threat and claimed that the Saharan branch of al-Qaeda in the Maghreb (AQIM) was only focused on kidnappings for ransom, rather than 'Jihadist activities'. AQIM is one of the region's wealthiest, best-armed Islamist militant groups which aims to overthrow the Algerian government and institute an Islamic State. AQIM has been increasingly active in North and West Africa with seasoned fighters from Afghanistan, Algeria, Iraq and Libya further bolster their skills an ...
FG hunts for Boko Haram commanders in Mali •Security agencies develop cold feet about ceasefire FEBRUARY 2, 2013 BY OUR CORRESPONDENTS The Federal Government is in a desperate manhunt for the leaders of the Boko Haram Islamic sect believed to be hiding in the desert and mountains of northern Mali. Security operatives are believed to be acting on the information that key figures in the sect were sighted in northern Mali in December. Saturday PUNCH investigations reveal that the Nigerian government is committing a huge amount of money to the prosecution of the campaign against the Islamists in northern Mali because of the belief in security circles that the area has been a haven for wanted commanders of the sect. Prior to the Mali mission, the Joint Task Force in the Niger Delta had placed a ransom on the leader of the sect, Imam Abubakar Shekau and 19 others for offences ranging from “killings and bombings to assassination of civilians, religious leaders, traditional rulers, businessmen, politicians, c ...
The Most Persecuted Religion Christians are targeted—by independent groups or governments—in some 131 countries world-wide. By ABRAHAM COOPER, JOHN HUFFMAN AND YITZCHOK ADLERSTEIN At the height of the Nazi Holocaust, the wretched human cargo spilling out of cattle cars onto the platforms of Auschwitz was immediately subject to a brutal selektion by the infamous Dr. Josef Mengele, whose flick of a finger to the left meant immediate death in a gas chamber; to the right, slave labor and slow death from starvation or disease. Fast forward to 2012 Nigeria, where a latter-day incarnation of selektion has been used—this time not against Jews, but against Christians. Nigeria is the most populous black nation on earth. Among its chief blessings are oil and a large array of religious, tribal and language groups. Yet conflict, violence and terrorism are part of reality there, too. Recently a new line of inhumanity was crossed. In October, armed attackers, presumed to be members of Boko Haram, an Islamist terro ...
COVERT OPS IN NIGERIA: Fertile Ground for US Sponsored Balkanization By Nile Bowie Global Research, April 11, 2012 While the Sahel security crisis continues to deteriorate following Tuareg rebels’ declaration of an independent state in Mali’s troubled northern territory [1], recent events in Nigeria indicate a potential for increased regional instability. Boko Haram, a Salafist organization seeking to overthrow the secular administration of Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, has recently killed 38 civilians in a suicide car bomb targeting nearby churches holding Easter services in the northern city of Kaduna [2]. As part of an ongoing campaign of sectarian violence, the group has strived to implement sharia law through the establishment of an Islamic State in Northern Nigeria [3]. The group’s belligerent acts of violence claimed more than 500 lives during 2011 [4], prompting President Jonathan to call the current security crisis more dire than that experienced during 1967’s Biafran civil war, a ...
ROME, Italy, June 11, 2012/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The latest in a wave of attacks against Christians in Nigeria once again transformed a Sunday of worship into a bloodbath. A car bomb and group of gunmen respectively hit the packed churches of Jos and Biu, causing at least 4 deaths and dozens of wounded. The attacks were claimed by the Boko Haram extremists that have been terrorising Nigeria for nearly two years now with the goal of transforming it into an Islamic State and expelling all Christians. This escalation in attacks began in 2011 and has heightened alarm for the safety of the large Christian community there. I’ll speak to the European ministers, says Terzi Minister for Foreign Affairs Giulio Terzi condemned the attacks, reasserting “Italy’s maximum commitment in all international forums, primarily that of the EU, to the defence and promotion of religious freedom and to confronting the terrorist challenge”. The minister gave instructions to the Italian permanent representat ...
