Jenkins, on his third tour with the Lions, pulled up in training on Friday as he prepared to make his first start of the 125th annviersary tour and has been ruled out of the rest of the trip due to his recurring calf muscle problem. He will return home with Healy. Corbisiero went from Salta in Argentina to Buenos Aires, Santiago in Chile, Auckland, Sydney and finally Brisbane where he met up with his new squad mates ahead of this evening's match against the Queensland Reds. "It was a long journey but I'm not com ...
The British and Irish Lions will line up for their first warm-up match on Australian soil on Wednesday morning and face a Western Force squad that includes seven players who have never even played Super Rugby before.
Gatland wants a tougher test Perth - British and Irish Lions coach Warren Gatland has called for tougher challenges in his team's forthcoming matches on their tour of Australia after the visitors overwhelmed a depleted Western Force side 69-17 on Wednesday. Force coach Michael Foley, with one eye on Sunday's clash with the New South Wales Waratahs, selected seven players in the Perth-based Super Rugby side who have not played in the southern hemisphere competition. "The Force were thinking of their Super Rugby game on the weekend making a few changes, that's their prerogative," Gatland told reporters. "Ideally I would have liked to have played against a stronger game but we just made the focus about ourselves and I'm sure the (Queensland) Reds will be lot tougher in Brisbane on Saturday." The Force are bottom of the Australian conference in Super Rugby with only three wins from their 14 matches but they did manage to run in two tries against the Lions as well as disrupt a couple of lineout throws by Rory ...
The British and Irish Lions score nine tries to beat Western Force but prop forward Cian Healy goes off injured.
Skipper Brian O'Driscoll scored twice as the British and Irish Lions beat a weakened Western Force outfit 69-17 in Perth earlier today. Leigh Halfpenny kicked eleven from eleven kicks as the tourists flexed their muscles in their first midweek game.
Western Force v British and Irish Lions: Lions player ratings Posted on Jun 5, 2013 15. Leigh Halfpenny: 8.5 No more needs be said about his kicking – 100% from all corners of the pitch speaks for itself. Will never have the explosiveness that Hogg does, but did show some lovely touches in attack when joining the line. 14. Tommy Bowe: 7.5 Grabbed a try and looked menacing every time he got the ball. Great to see him threatening again like that, given his lack of game time over the past year. 13: Brian O’Driscoll: 8 Can anyone still claiming he is past his best stop now please? Scored two tries, the first involving a beautiful exchange of hands with George North and the second needing intelligent and well-timed support play to follow Tuilagi through a hole. 12. Manu Tuilagi: 7.5 Was kept reasonably quiet, but look how much space that opened up for the men around him. His partnership with O’Driscoll, if given time to gel, could become one of the most devastating ever seen. Beautifully soft hands after ...

Looks like there was a hungry Irish Lion having a chew on a Western Force arm. Maybe the ankle injury was karmar
A personal haul of 24 points by Wales full back Leigh Halfpenny ensured the British and Irish Lions coasted to a crushing 69-17 victory over Western Force in Perth. The Lions ran riot at Patersons Stadium with match-day captain Brian O'Driscoll leading the rout by scoring a brace among the nine tries. Halfpenny slotted over nine conversions and added two penalties with a faultless display of kicking from the tee. The Lions led 27-3 at the break and were never seriously threatened by an under-strength Force outfit. Halfpenny got the ball rolling after just two minutes with his first shot at goal before Irish pivot Jonny Sexton dummied his way over the tryline to score the 2013 Lion's first try on Australian soil. Halfpenny converted to put the Lions out 10-0. The Lions dominated possession for the next 20 minutes but were repelled by stubborn defence. Eventually Brett Sheehan pegged the score back to 10-3 on 32 minutes. O'Driscoll outpaced the Force defence and touched down in the corner before England fla ...
British and Irish Lions v Western Force: Preview and prediction Posted on Jun 4, 2013 The British and Irish Lions may have got off to an encouraging start with their 59-8 victory over the Barbarians in Hong Kong, but as they set foot on Australian soil, they will be under no illusions as to the immensity of the challenge that awaits them. First up for the tourists will be a stern test from Western Force, who certainly should not be underestimated, despite their position near the foot of the Super Rugby table. British and Irish Lions Very little, in terms of predicting potential test starters, could be garnered from Warren Gatland’s selection against the Barbarians, thanks largely to the exclusion of Leicester, Leinster, and Ulster players from the starting XV, and his selection for the Western Force game will also be subject to that same assessment. All XV starters from the game in Hong Kong have been replaced, with players from those three aforementioned teams featuring heavily, and Gatland looks as if ...
The British and Irish Lions take on Western Force is Perth this morning - we'll hear from Phil Edwards ahead of the game
Can't wait: Western Force kinda-academy side taking on the British & Irish people in a few hours. With a bit of luck the referee will blow the whistle too much and we'll have a 50 point blow out AND 40 penalties. Man! What a great advert for rugby. Michael Foley, good St Pats boy and fine Wallaby forward, why couldn't the franchise at least pick boys to compete? I dislike the British & Irish Lions as much as anyone, but they shouldn't be treated with contempt just because the Gonzos organising the game decided to play in Hong Kong to 41 expats and Robert Sleigh rather than heading straight to the home of the Perth Wildcats. Anyhoo, go Force, I guess. (Mess with their five eighths, boys, really). Oh, and just to complete the campaign for likely unbridled humiliation; go the Blues in the State of Origin.
Some great rugby this week.. Tomorrow we have the British and Irish Lions take on the Western Force in Perth.. Also State of Origin 1 between NSW and Queensland.. and then this weekend USA vs Ireland!!

Super Bok trials begin South African players will want to put their best foot forward and impress Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer this weekend. With the British and Irish Lions tour Down Under in June necessitating anearlier than usual start to the season, with just two Australian derbies making up Round One, the 2013 Super Rugby campaign truly gets underway this weekend with a full quota of seven matches. Three of those involve South African sides, two of which are mouth-watering local derbies with the thirdbeing a historic clash in Port Elizabeth. From a South African perspective they don’t come any bigger than Friday’s north-south derby between the Bulls and the Stormers at Loftus Versfeld. It’s therefore fitting that this crunch clash kicks off a new-look South African conference that this year includes controversial debutants the Southern Kings. The Eastern Cape franchise host the Western Force in their first ever Super Rugby match on Saturday evening but not before the Cheetahsand Sharks square ...
