So Ryan Grant snubbed again for the Lions as is Gray. To support or not to support the Welsh, English and Irish Lions, that is the question.
Stoked! Ryan Grant from the British and Irish Lions today at Sunshine Beach.
Fakafeta for positive reporting! from the Telegraph uk. LIONS 2013: No winners in this scrum lottery by Brian Moore There is nothing like a defeat to expose the fault lines inherent in any British and Irish Lions. The Lions 16-15 loss to Australia on Saturday saw the English player Mako Vunipola singled out for criticism, so much so that after 20 minutes some fans and pundits were screaming for him to be removed from the field and replaced by Ryan Grant. What the screamers did not and still do not understand is that in the same way Vunipola fell foul of referee Craig Joubert when the Australians scrummaged illegally, the reverse applied at later scrums. If critics condemn Vunipola for penalties gained by his opponent, they cannot, if they want to have any credibility, refuse to praise him for penalties given against his opposite number. My view that the two early penalties against Vunipola were nonsense is shared by former international props Paul Wallace and David Flatman. At one, Ben Alexander bored in ...
British & Irish Lions O’Connell ruled out of test series with broken arm Posted on Jun 24, 2013 | 0 comments O'connell Ireland lock Paul O’Connell has been ruled out of the rest of the test series with a broken arm. It is a huge blow for the tourists, who lose a priceless source of on-field leadership. O’Connell was set to feature in his eighth straight Lions test, but instead will watch from the stands. There is no plan to call up a replacement at this stage. Geoff Parling has been stood down from the Rebels match and is likely to take O’Connell’s place in the test side – Ian Evans comes into the line-up for Tuesday, with Tom Croft onto the bench. Flanker Dan Lydiate will captain the side. British and Irish Lions (revised) vs Melbourne Rebels: 15 Rob Kearney, 14 Sean Maitland, 13 Manu Tuilagi, 12 Brad Barritt, 11 Simon Zebo, 10 Owen Farrell, 9 Conor Murray, 8 Toby Faletau, 7 Sean O’Brien, 6 Dan Lydiate (c), 5 Ian Evans, 4 Richie Gray, 3 Dan Cole, 2 Richard Hibbard, 1 Ryan Grant. British and Irish Lions name team to play Combined Country XV Posted on Jun 9, 2013 Warren Gatland has named his team to play a Combined Country XV on Tuesday in Newcastle. Alex Corbisiero is set to make his first start, while fellow injury replacement Ryan Grant is named on the bench. Stuart Hogg gets an outing at fly-half with Sean Maitland slotting in at fullback, while the side is captained by Brian O’Driscoll in the midfield. He links up with 2009 centre partner Jamie Roberts. “The Reds game was always going to be a big challenge, and I was delighted at the victory and the way we were tested,” said Warren Gatland. “It was a very physical match, as we knew it would be. We now move on to Newcastle and another challenge. “This team to play Country includes three players – Richie Gray, Alex Cuthbert and Stuart Hogg – who are starting their second game in a row, plus another, George North, who came off the bench early against the Reds. “This is the nature of Lions tours as we adapt to inju ...
Another Lion bows out of tour The British and Irish Lions have suffered yet another injury blow, with Irish winger Tommy Bowe set to undergo the knife on a broken hand. Bowe picked up the injury in the Lions' 22-12 victory over the Queensland Reds on Saturday night, and coach Warren Gatland said he would miss the remainder of the tour. "According to the medics he'll probably need an operation," he said. "I think you can deduce from this that he'll play no further part. I would say that's it as far as Tommy is concerned." Gatland was in no doubt as to the significance of the loss. "The experience he brings, and being able to play right wing, left wing, centre and full back, means he is a huge loss for us. He slotted in well on the left wing tonight. "If you think about the two guys we are bringing out in terms of replacements they are absolutely quality players. If Alex Corbisiero hadn't been injured then he would have been in the mix and Ryan Grant has had an excellent season as well." The latest setback ...
