Queensland Reds v British and Irish Lions: Preview and Prediction Posted on Jun 7, 2013 Two games in and the Lions have two wins under their belt. Yet to truly be tested, however, this weekend’s fixture against the Queensland Reds provides a much stiffer challenge for the tourists. The Reds are second on the Australian log in Super Rugby, and aside from their seven players currently on Wallaby duty they have named as strong a team as they possibly can. It is set to be the toughest game for the Lions to date. British and Irish Lions Gatland continues to rotate his squad, and as a result we will see some new combos taking shape. The most intriguing is probably, once again, in the centres, where Manu Tuilagi plays his second game in four days alongside Jonathan Davies, who showed some nice touches in Hong Kong. Davies is at 12 and Tuilagi at 13, which intriguingly means Roberts, Tuilagi and Davies will all have started at inside centre after Saturday – is Gatland looking at who is the best man to partner ...
British and Irish Lions v Western Force: Preview and prediction Posted on Jun 4, 2013 The British and Irish Lions may have got off to an encouraging start with their 59-8 victory over the Barbarians in Hong Kong, but as they set foot on Australian soil, they will be under no illusions as to the immensity of the challenge that awaits them. First up for the tourists will be a stern test from Western Force, who certainly should not be underestimated, despite their position near the foot of the Super Rugby table. British and Irish Lions Very little, in terms of predicting potential test starters, could be garnered from Warren Gatland’s selection against the Barbarians, thanks largely to the exclusion of Leicester, Leinster, and Ulster players from the starting XV, and his selection for the Western Force game will also be subject to that same assessment. All XV starters from the game in Hong Kong have been replaced, with players from those three aforementioned teams featuring heavily, and Gatland looks as if ...
Can't wait: Western Force kinda-academy side taking on the British & Irish people in a few hours. With a bit of luck the referee will blow the whistle too much and we'll have a 50 point blow out AND 40 penalties. Man! What a great advert for rugby. Michael Foley, good St Pats boy and fine Wallaby forward, why couldn't the franchise at least pick boys to compete? I dislike the British & Irish Lions as much as anyone, but they shouldn't be treated with contempt just because the Gonzos organising the game decided to play in Hong Kong to 41 expats and Robert Sleigh rather than heading straight to the home of the Perth Wildcats. Anyhoo, go Force, I guess. (Mess with their five eighths, boys, really). Oh, and just to complete the campaign for likely unbridled humiliation; go the Blues in the State of Origin.

Warren Gatland has selected 11 Welshmen in his squad to face the BarbariansWales will dominate the opening match of the 2013 British & Irish Lions with nine players selected to start against the Barbarians in Hong Kong. Centre pair Jamie Roberts and Jonathan Davies continue their winning Test partnership in midfield alongside Six Nations try hero Alex Cuthbert. Three Ospreys forwards will start at Hong Kong Stadium including front-row pair Adam Jones and Richard Hibbard as well as flanker Justin Tipuric who gets the nod after tour captain Sam Warburton was ruled out with a knee injury. Tipuric lines up between Newport Gwent Dragons pair Dan Lydiate and Toby Faletau in an all-Wales back-row in front of scrum-half Mike Phillips. The veteran Test number nine will provide crucial experience for half-back partner Owen Farrell who is joined by Saracens team-mate Mako Vunipola. Scotland's trio of tourists, Stuart Hogg, Sean Maitland and Richie Gray all start while 2009 captain Paul O'Connell will lead the team i ...
