he Stepford Wives is a 1972 satirical thriller novel by Ira Levin. The story concerns Joanna Eberhart, a photographer and young mother who begins to suspect that the frighteningly submissive housewives in her new idyllic Connecticut neighborhood may be robots created by their husbands. Two films of the same name have been adapted from the novel; the first starred Katharine Ross and was released in 1975, while a remake starring Nicole Kidman appeared in 2004. Edgar J. Scherick produced the 1975 version, all three sequels, and was posthumously credited as producer in the 2004 remake. The term "Stepford wife", which is often used in popular culture, stemmed from the novel and is usually a reference to a submissive and docile wife. In the late 20th and early 21st centuries, it was sometimes used in reference to any woman, even an accomplished professional woman, who had subordinated her life and/or career to her husband's interests and who affected submission and devotion to him even in the face of the husban ...
So I'm watching the new Rosemary's Baby on NBC (mmm Jason Isaacs as Roman Castavet) and I guess one could complain about it being so different from Polanski's classic, and the fact that it lacks all subtlety, but honestly the original is iconic because it spoke to its era and specifically heralded the end of that era. And no one in this day and age could be that deluded, beguiled, and hoodwinked by two kooky characters as the original Castavets, but a young married couple in Paris? I could see them getting suckered by the decadence of the Illuminati. Ira Levin's book isn't about witches at all you see, but it is about secret societies. So much for subtlety.

Happy birthday to director, producer, and screenwriter, William Castle! He directed such classics as House on Haunted Hill, The Tingler, 13 Ghosts, Mr. Sardonicus, The Old Dark House, and Strait-Jacket. He purchased the film rights to Ira Levin's novel "Rosemary's Baby", but Paramount Pictures would give him the green light for the project only if he didn't direct--the studio feared that his reputation as a director of low-budget gimmick horror films would harm the project. Roman Polanski was finally selected to direct while Castle, as producer, was allowed to make a significant cameo appearance. (April 24, 1914 - May 31, 1977)
Wonder what the Major Changes to the story will be ? From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Rosemary's Baby is a 1968 American psychological horror film written and directed by Roman Polanski, based on the bestselling 1967 novel Rosemary's Baby by Ira Levin. The cast includes Mia Farrow, John Cassavetes, Ruth Gordon, Ralph Bellamy, Maurice Evans, Sidney Blackmer and Charles Grodin (in his first film appearance). It was produced by William Castle. Farrow plays a pregnant woman who fears that her husband may have made a pact with their eccentric neighbors, believing he may have promised them the child to be used as a human sacrifice in their occult rituals in exchange for success in his acting career. The film was an enormous commercial success, earning over $33 million in the United States on a modest budget of $3.2 million. It was met with near universal acclaim from film critics and earned numerous nominations and awards. The American Film Institute ranked the film 9th in their 100 Years...100 Thrills lis ...
Review from Adelaide Theatre Guide: THE THEATRICAL THREESOME: PART THREE Venture Theatre Company Trinity Uniting Hall Until 05 Apr 2014 Review by Linda Edwards “The Theatrical Threesome” is a collection of three one-act plays that together provide a great night's entertainment. The first offering is “Bang You're Dead” by Paul Reakes, directed by Lucy Marshallsay and first-time director David Giles. The play is fun, with many twists and turns to keep the audience guessing, and in this and other ways is reminiscent of Ira Levin's “Deathtrap”. Jessica Ramsay does well as Lydia Spink and Colin Grace is a strong presence as her husband Theo. Kyle Hopgood plays a role that is particularly difficult because of the twists in the plot, and he handles the changes required believably, although he speaks too quickly at times and some dialogue gets lost. The standout performer is Susan Cherry, who is delightful as the aging spinster Miss Amelia Trim. Cherry knows how to listen and her reactions are wonderf ...
Diary date! This year's Spring play, selected and to be directed by our very own Mark Norman, is sure to thrill and amuse in equal parts. Deathtrap, by Ira Levin, is a play within a play with many twists and turns and holds the record for the longest running comedy-thriller on Broadway. In 1982 it was also made into a film starring Christopher Reeve, Michael Caine and Dyan Cannon. Auditions will take place on Monday 3 March at 8.00pm in the village hall - and there are plenty of opportunities to contribute to other areas of production too, so come along and join in the fun! Performance dates are 16 and 17 May.
Attic Theatre Announces Its Summer Season A non-stop comedy, a thriller with a sense of humor and rousing musical highlight Attic Theatre's 64th season of entertaining Fox Valley audiences. “Boeing, Boeing,” written by Marc Camoletti and translated from the French by Beverly Cross and Francis Evans, is a classic French farce, complete with multiple doors and perpetual high anxiety as a result of a slew of romantic shenanigans. It will be performed June 20 – 22 and 25 – 28. The “Chicago Sun-Times” described the play as “an ideal escapist entertainment for the dog days of summer.” “Deathtrap” by Ira Levin will run July 10 – 13 and 15 – 19. When a washed-up playwright, a supportive wife, an aspiring young playwright, who has written a top notch thriller, come together in a secluded location and with a wall decorated with death instruments, tensions mount. “Deathtrap is that rarity, a comic stage thriller that provides plenty of laughs and some real spine-tingling turns,” state ...
