Good-day Zimbabwe here is what happened- Major-General Douglas Nyikayaramba, is behind the death of captain of the Zimbabwean National Army (ZNA) Edwin Bhundani Nleya who was murdered in 1989. He did this when he was a major at Parachute regiment at Inkomo barracks. Captain Nleya's body was found on a hillside in Hwange, in the western province of Matabeleland North, two months after he disappeared in suspicious circumstances from the camp 1:2 Infantry Battalion in Hwange where he was based. A post-mortem examination and an army inquiry held in camera attributed the death to suicide, yet an inquest carried out later found that Captain Nleya had been murdered. It has been widely alleged that Captain Nleya was killed because of what he knew about the ZNA's involvement in poaching and smuggling activities in Mozambique, evidence of which he had uncovered while on military duty there in 1988. Captain Nleya’s murder was followed by poisoning of his close ally in custody in June, Lt. Shephard Chisango who als ...

The year I was born 1961 The Blackhawks won the cup for the third time (1934-38 were the other two years they won.) Since learning of this fact I have had an affinity for the Hawks. I first watched them play on WGN in the late 60's mostly late night games, and just peeks of The Jet. When playoffs came around I went to Moller Lanes to watch the games on closed circut from the window that divided the bar from the bowling alley. Many of heartbreaking years later, the Hawks changed course, and had the WANT to give Chicago another Champion to be proud of. In 2010 my wife and I were on Honeymoon in Spain and returned home the evening of the Parade. This year I watched the team that was named after the 86th Infantry Battalion of WW1 win the cup for the 3rd time in my life time, and I am so proud to be comitted to the Indian the team wears on thier sweater. Welcome bandwagon fans, the ride can be bumpy at times but as long as you stay comitted to the Indian, you will always be a Champion.

The 15th Battalion of Honduras Written by Dominique Diaddigo The following report was compiled using information from the forthcoming Rights Action report on the 15th Battalion by Annie Bird. For Right's Actions Executive Summary and full report, see below. The Honduran Army's 15th Infantry Battalion has been widely accused of leading operations that have resulted in Human Rights abuses, which include the notorious attack against campesino protestors in a land dispute in August 2010 that resulted in the murder of a seventeen year-old boy, as well as the death of five security guards. Raynel Funes Ponce, who graduated from the Basic Infantry Officials program at the SOA in 1984, was said to be commander of the 15th Battalion in a 2011 newspaper article. In 2012 it was revealed on the Honduras Armed Forces website that Ponce had assumed command of the Special Forces 1st Battalion. A squad representing the 1st Battalion, led by Josue Sierra, who took a Cadet Arms orientation at the SOA in 2011, murdered 1 .. ...

I have been reading allot of talk about how the civilian populace having guns with high magazines capacities and semi-automatic rates of fire is an extremely bad idea. Much of it is related to the fact that there is no need for it in hunting and sport shooting, although nowhere in the 4608 words in The Constitution and 1478 words of the Declaration of Independence are the words "hunting" or "sporting" found. But my point is about something new, a new shift in the propaganda to the point that an Armed Citizenry with the type of weapons available on the open market both styled after military type weapons and those marketed as hunting and sport weapons could never hold off or fight a modern technologically advanced Army with conventional weapons, Tanks and Aircraft. At face value that would appear to be a true statement, how could a farmer from Iowa or a banker from Texas stand a chance against a Tank Company, and Infantry Battalion, or a few Apache Helicopters? A confrontation like that must have suicidal . ...

NPA campaigns against 84th IB's environmentally-disastrous schemes Simon Santiago NPA-Southern Mindanao Regional Command. Regional Political Department January 23, 2013 In a punitive action against the protector of environmentally-destructive capitalist incursions, Red fighters hit one of the elements of the 84th Infantry Battalion in a sniping operation in sitio Tabak, Brgy. Tawan-tawan, Baguio district, Davao City, on January 22 at 2 pm. The 84th IB withdrew two of its platoons and used as human shield Tabak's tribal leader Datu Sito Saman. The NPA offensive is only one of the many region-wide punitive actions in the last three days as the revolutionary forces escalate the campaign to protect the environment and against its plunderers. The 84th IB has been raring to start full-scale offensive against the New People's Army's Guerilla Front 54 Operations Command. A letter from a commander at my fire base Ben tre.The Battle of Ben Tre I was the Commanding Officer of Task Force Builder, an Army engineer group of 60 soldiers that was stationed in the small rural village of Rach Kein, Vietnam in 1968. Rach Kein was approximately 20 miles SW of Saigon, located in Long An Province. Our base camp was next to the base camp of the 3/39 Infantry Battalion of the 9th Infantry Division. Ben Tre, Vietnam, is a moderately size town that is located on the Mekong River about 25 miles SE of Rach Kein. It was much bigger than Rach Kein, probably even bigger than the town of Long An. During the first week of the Tet Offensive the VC made their big move of attacking Saigon. The 3/39 Inf. was initially sent to fight in the big battle for Saigon. This left us alone to face an NVA regiment of 5,000 men that surrounded us on January 29. We survived that. And we remained surrounded and cut off for several weeks. As best I recall, the 3/39 Inf. was in Saigon for about two weeks. I certainl ...

As an American of Japanese descent this hits particularly close to home. EO 9066 by FDR was based in real racism, actual xenophobia, groundless fears and a crippling paranoia of law abiding hard working Americans who looked different but whose country of origin had attacked American soil. At first denied the honor of fighting for their nation, the Americans of Japanese descent were finally allowed to fight against America's enemies, primarily the Germans and Italians in Europe. The 110th Infantry Battalion and later the 442 Regimental Combat Team and 522nd Field Artillery Battalion consisted solely of Americans of Japanese descent with Anglo officers earned numerous individual and unit citations for bravery under fire to include 7 Presidential Unit Citations, dozens of Distinguished Service Crosses and Oak Leaf Clusters, hundreds of Silver and Bronze stars, 1 Distinguished Service Metal, and countless Purple Hearts were presented to these men with "funny looking eyes" but not one Medal of Honor, that is u ...

“A Mindanao Story – Troubled Decades in the Eye of the Storm” by: MGEN DELFIN CASTRO (Ret), former Commander of SOUTHCOM AFP from 1980 to 1986. Chapter 4: The Reward of Persuasion: Bloodbath in Pata Even as the NPA was being checked along the Davao-Agusan boundary incident was shaping up in Sulu, one of that had echoes of the Patikul massacre of 10 October 1977 and that would characterize the duplicity and ferocity of the conflict in the southern islands in those years. In time, it came to be known as the Pata Massacre. The 3rd Brigade of the 1st Infantry Division had launched an operation in Pata Island on February 9, 1981 in the wake of reported landings of an undetermined number of MNLF forces somewhere at Barangay Pata Likud. The 31st Infantry Battalion was at the forefront while two other battalions were screening on the mainland side. The Brigade set up its Advance Command Post in Patian Island, the next island away from Pata. As a result, Mayor Burahan of Pata called a meeting of island leade ...

Didn't know this guy personally, but read it in August & saved it b/c it touched me; Lest we forget; Arnold, Frank Edward- Frank passed away at the age of 88 in his sleep, August 18 2012. Frank was a WWII Veteran and served with the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa 3rd Infantry Battalion. He was a longtime avid member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Lions Club. A Soldier Died Today He was getting old and Paunchy, and his hair was falling fast and he sat around the legion, telling stories of the past. Of a war that he once fought in and the deeds that he had done, in his exploits with his buddies; they were heroes, every one. And ‘tho sometimes to his neighbors his tales became a joke, all his buddies listened quietly for they knew whereof he spoke. But we’ll hear his tales no longer, for ol’ Frank has passed away, and the world’s a little poorer for a soldier that died today. He wont be mourned by many, just his children and his wife. For he lived an ordinary, very quiet sort of life. He held a ...

This attached commentary speaks exactly my feelings on the Benghazi Attacks. NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING has angered me like this. Our so called "Leaders" sat by and did nothing to save our people during this 6 hour attack! This is tantamount to a Vietnam infantry battalion commander and his staff deciding to do NOTHING when a squad leader radios for help because they are under attack by the enemy. "No, let's wait and see what happens!" "Let's not send anyone in harms way until we know more of what is going on." "Let's just saunter over to the Officers Club and have a couple of beers. If they die, they die. We'll learn in the morning what happens. Besides, those soldiers are probably already dead.plus they are expendable..." If this had happened in Vietnam, that battalion commander would have for sure been fired and replaced and maybe be court martialed for dereliction of duty. It doesn't take courage or guts to try and rescue our people in trouble...whose lives are at stake! But, to do nothing! A ...

The 509th was originally constituted on 14 March 1941 as the 504th Parachute Battalion and activated on 5 October 1941 at Fort Benning, GA. It was reorganized and redesignated on 24 February 1942 as the 2nd Battalion, 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment. Just prior to its first operation, it was again redesignated on 2 November 1942 as the 2nd Battalion, 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment. (The 2nd Battalion was the only active element of the 509PIR. In the 503d PIR, then in Australia, a new 2nd Battalion, with different honors and lineage, was formed.) The unit, heavily combat-attrited in Italy, was redesignated on 10 December 1943 as the 509th Parachute Infantry Battalion, a designation it retained for the remainder of the war.

Message from Iraq The proud warriors of Baker Company wanted to do something to pay tribute to our fallen comrades. So since we are part of the only Marine Infantry Battalion left in Iraq, the one way that we could think of doing that is by taking a picture of Baker Company saying the way we feel. It would be awesome if you could find a way to share this with our fellow countrymen. I was wondering if there was anyway to get this into your papers to let the world know that "WE HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN" and are proud to serve our country." Semper Fi 1st Sgt Dave Jobe

It feels good to mingle with people having diverse cultures. The experience itself was great. Talking with my co-participants from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao made me feel the spirit of solidarity. Achieving peace is actually possible. And the youths of today could contribute a lot in making Peace through networking and communication. As Rizal mentioned, "the youths are the hope of our fatherland". It only shows, that we the youths of today can be an agent of change. We can do something signifacant in our own personal way. We can spread peace from one another by respecting and accepting diversity, regardless of color and economic status. National Youth Leader Summit @ Davao City. The Congress finds the following: (1) In 1899, the US Congress authorized the first U.S. Infantry Battalion of native US Territory of Puerto Rico Volunteer Troops organized by the U.S Army; from which The U.S. 65th Infantry Regiment traces its linage as they fought, under our American Flag, for all of us while having an un-equal US Citizenship, and being the only American Hispanic segregated Regiment in our History. They overcame the enormous challenges of prejudice, bigotry, and discrimination by succeeding, despite obstacles that threatened failure. (2) Upon the entrance of America into WW-I, the PR Legislature patriotically requested that the Selective Service Draft law be extended to PR (236,853 men were registered; 17,855 served). The U.S. 65th Infantry went to war strength of about 1969 men; defended the Panama Canal… as other American Puerto Rican Soldiers served in Europe; fought valiantly for liberty… Also, The shots fired from El Morro Castle, Puerto Rico, in 1915--on the German supply ship ...
Legendary feats cited as 19IB turns 39 KANANGA, Leyte--- Leyte chief executives who attended the 39th Founding Anniversary of the 19th Infantry Battalion on Friday, October 19, 2012 cited before other guests the integrated efforts of LGUs and commandos towards sustaining peace and development in the province. Mayor Eric Codilla of Ormoc City recalled how startled he was when abandoned NPA camps were discovered by the soldiers at the outskirts of his town in 2006. “They even have tunnels connected in the vicinity of a certain hospital in Ormoc City which was believed to be the rebels’ passageway whenever they have casualties”, the three-termer mayor of Ormoc said. On the other hand, Mayor Maria Corazon Remandaban of Tabango, Leyte who is to host a Youth Leadership Summit before end of this month lauded the commandos for its con ...

A Terrible Beauty The Story of Task Force Builder. Michael D. Miller, 2009: Rideout Publishing 345 pages, paperback. ISBN 978-0-615-43926-6. Available through Author, or Amazon.com In 1967-68 a special mission took place in the Delta of South Viet Nam that remains largely unknown to many. " Task Force Builder" was operationalized as a unit project to contruct schools and special designated structures for the rural Vietnamese in the Mekong Delta villages. The project was the brainchild of Lt. Col Geroge B. Gray and the visionary John Paul Vann. The project faced the challenge of working in an area that was heavily occupied by the Viet Cong. Fighting was extensive in the area, as the 3/39th Infantry Battalion suffered severe casualties, estimated at 100% during this period. The element of danger and ambush was particularly high for Task Force Builder crews, given the need for frequent travel on the roads in the region. Lt. Col. Gray drew his men largely from the 46th Engineer Battalion at Long Binh. Hav ...

Amid a Defense Budget Fight, Military Families Plan for the Worst By AMY BUSHATZ My husband doesn’t whisper. So when he leaned into me before his 2009 deployment and whispered that soldiers – many soldiers – were going to die where they were going in Afghanistan, I listened. Yet I am the kind of practical woman who could hear his fear and chalk it up to predeployment jitters. My husband was right about that deployment. In four months, 20 members of our unit, the 1-17 Infantry Battalion, Fifth Brigade, Second Infantry Division, out of Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash, died. I spent every other Wednesday at a military memorial sitting behind friends whose husbands were now among the fallen. Events like that leave scars. Like so many of my fellow military spouses, I no longer believe that every story ends with “happily ever after.” I no longer believe that things always turn out for the best. I no longer think that threats are always empty. Which is why when elected officials and pundits rant and rav ...

At H-Hour, 0630 hours, we circled offshore waiting for a signal form the 2nd Ranger Battalion. Had they been successful in their assault of the cliffs at Point du Huc? No word. Circle. No word. At 0710, ten minutes beyond his deadline, Colonel Schneider ordered the three waves of eighteen Ranger boats under his command to divert to Omaha Beach, landing at Vierville-sur-Mer. As Colonel Schneider's first wave, Companies "A" and "B" of the 2nd Rangers landed at Vierville, they were cut to pieces by massive German machine gun, mortar, and artillery fire.
