The annual report of External Affairs ministry for 1974-1975 says, “The agreement with Sri Lanka on the division of the historic waters in the Palk Bay, which has also settled amicably (sic) the Kachchativu issue, is an indication of India’s earnestness in evolving a policy of friendship and mutual co-operation with her neighbours.” Atal Bihari Vajpayee, leader of the Jan Sangh, retorted, “This is not an agreement, this is surrender.” He asked his party colleague in Tamil Nadu, Jana Krishnamurthy, who subsequently became the BJP president, to challenge the secession in the Madras High Court. He promptly filed a petition which was admitted by Justice Ismail. During hearing, the judge asked the petitioner to produce documentary evidence to establish the ceded territory belonged to Tamil Nadu. All the official documents connected with Katchatheevu had been spirited away from Fort St. George in Chennai to New Delhi by the Indira Gandhi government.

SUCCESS SANS ETHICS The New Indian Express : 14.June.2012 The flight from Delhi to Chennai was about to take off. After a central minister, on the other side of the aisle, and I had just wished each other, he suddenly pointed to the passenger in the window seat next to mine and asked whether I knew him. He introduced him to me, went into reading his book. The gentleman was a Tamil Nadu cadre IAS officer, known for high integrity. As we began discussing, we could recollect having met long back. Our talk inevitably ended on how the main state actors — politicians and civil servants — had steeply declined in morals. Finally, I asked him a straight question: “Can you point at when exactly did the decline start?” He was equally straight. Political morality, he said, crashed with the “advent” of Indira Gandhi, and business, he added, became buccaneering with the “rise” of Dhirubhai Ambani. That was exactly my view too. A simple comparison of the standards of political morality before and after I ...
These days I am seeing too many programs on the news trader's channels. All these program are related to the anti-national family of India. All these programs always revolve around the assassination of two Prime Ministers. As matter of fact both of these Prime Ministers succumbed to their own anti-national nefarious design for petty gains in election. Indira Gandhi had encouraged a group in Punjab for electoral gains and she paid for her anti-national instinct. Rajiv Gandhi cheated the people of Tamil Nadu and srilanka. As Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi messed up many national issues for petty electoral gains. All these programs are aimed at exploiting the sympathy feelings in innocent Indians. These programs are aired without explaining all the events leading to their assassination. These news traders must understand that we Indians are not at their mercy any more for the information. We know about the real reasons behind the assassinations of these two Prime Ministers. We Indians are aware of our ...
From royal family reaction to release of Rajiv Gandhi killers, any person with average intelligence can construe present misrulers behind killings of both Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. After completing both the missions, the conspirators were rewarded with Prime Ministership, key central ministries, Tamil Nadu rule. There has been sustained conspiracy to disintegrate and degenerate the nation. At the threshold of congress rule end, some more stunning revelations are on card. Maneka Gandhi and Varun Gandhi have been at receiving end of entire ecstasy. Evidence of sale of SIMSs by rulers to terrorists at

All the old Congress Residual fractions are ready to form a political Party In November 1969, Indian National Congress party split due to the ideological difference and personality glut. Indira Gandhi was made PM by Perunthalaivar K.Kamaraj. The main consideration was, she was the daughter of Nehru. Except this she had no other eligibility. Soon she became powerful and caused unrest in the party and finally she violated the party discipline and supported the rebel president candidate V.V.Giri over the party candidate Sanjeev Reddy. Thus, the party president Nijalingappa dismissed her from the party and finally she managed to stick to power with the help of Karunanithi. A pure Tamil leader was first time opposed by so called Tamil Karunanithi and favoured North Indian Indira Gandhi. Karunanithi proved that he will go to any extend of destroying Tamils for his self benefit. After the split, Indira congress in Tamil Nadu had only Bhaktavatchalam and some useless leaders. Remaining all the supporters of Congr ...
Early politics Swamy's career started with his involvement in Jayaprakash Narayan's Sarvodaya movement, which was an apolitical movement but which formed the foundation of the creation of Janta Party later.[15] The real turn in his political career came after his sacking from IIT. Liberal economic policies put forward by him didn't go well with the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi who discredited him as 'Santa Claus with unrealistic ideas'. As a result he was expelled from Indian Institute of Technology. This marked the beginning of his active political career. Staunch opponent of Indira Gandhi and right wing political party Jansangh sent him to Rajya Sabha - the upper house of Indian Parliament.[4] He was elected Member of Parliament 5 times between 1974 and 1999. He has twice represented the city of Mumbai North East during 1977 and 1980, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu in the Parliament.[4] During the period of emergency, he fled to America, seeking safe haven with an Indian businessman in Michigan who h ...
The rail link between Bangalore and Chamarajnagar has been cleared by the Centre. After Karnataka government sought to put the long pending project on the track announcing financial assistance, the railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal on Tuesday reciprocated it announcing Bangalore-Satyamangalam line. Major chunk of the proposed line lies within Karnataka linking the IT City to the Tamil Nadu border via Kanakapura, Malavalli, Kollegal and Chamarajnagar. First came the state government announcement when CM Jagadish Shettar on February 8 made the offer in his budget; He pledged funds for the project reviving hopes of improved connectivity to the area. The Union minister cleared it in the rail budget. He said: "I also wish to announce resumption of work on new line projects of Bangalore- Satyamangalam, which was pending for want of resources and other mandatory clearances after State Government of Karnataka agreed to give land free of cost and bear 50 per cent of the cost." Call by Hindu Makkal Katchi for closure of Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka Posted on February 16th, 2013 NIE reports, as quoted by the local media on 15 February, that a Tamil Nadu group, going by the name Hindu Makkal Katchi, has petitioned the Madras High Court for the closure of the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka. For once, the large majority of peace-loving Sri Lankans have got something on which they can agree with the noise makers in Tamil Nadu and a demand that they would wholeheartedly support. India was never a friend of Sri Lanka, except in the bygone days of Emperor Asoka and those of his ilk many moons ago. Coming to the more recent past, starting from the time of Indira Gandhi, all that India did was geared at undermining the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the island nation. Military training offered by India at its military bases in Dehra Dun and other places transformed a rag tag bunch of street thugs, who originated in Velvetithurai in Jaffna, to a killing machine that h ...
Distance Learning Degrees recognised from DEC vaild for Govt. Jobs All distance learning degrees awarded with recognition from Distance Education Council (DEC) are valid degrees for applying and obtaining central government jobs, the Indira Gandhi National Open University (Ignou) said here Tuesday. 'The government issued a notification in 1995 stating that all qualifications awarded through distance education by the universities stand automatically recognised for the purpose of employment to posts and services under the central government, provided it has been approved by the Distance Education Council,' Ignou Vice Chancellor V.N. Rajasekharran Pillai said. Pillai's comment has come at a time when thousands of degree certificates awarded by the University of Madras and other Tamil Nadu varsities through the distance education programme for over a decade have been declared invalid for government jobs. 'Let me clarify that all universities need to get DEC approval before starting any distance education prog ...
Why no action against Babri Masjid demolishers, asks Abu Azmi PTI [ Updated 12 Feb 2013, 10:07:21 ] Mumbai, Feb 12 : Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi on Monday sought action against those involved in the demolition of Babri Masjid in Ayodhya in 1992. "Why is there no action against those who demolished Babri? Now people are openly talking about building Ram temple (there)," Azmi told reporters here. "The Tamil Nadu Assembly passes a resolution in favour of Rajiv Gandhi's killers. Same is done in case of Indira Gandhi's killers by the Akalis. How can terrorists be supported like this?" Azmi asked. "Had Omar Abdullah or any other Muslim said the same about Afzal Guru, they would be seen as the biggest terrorists," he said. "How do I believe that the law is equal for all in this country?" Azmi said, adding, Afzal Guru's family should have been informed of the execution before hand. "No action has been taken against police inspector Sujata Patil, who used objectionable language against the Muslims," he said. P ...
Can Islam coexist peacefully with other religions? I am attaching below a mail from one of India’s Air Vice Marshal Hamid Shahul (received from Col. R. P. Singh and may have been forwarded to many as well). Dear SAM and Col Raman, To a thoughtful article from one Vatsala Vedanta, this was my response and I am repeating it to my Group known for sober and tolerant views and Col Raman an equally commited officer to protect our secular and Plural values. "I am impressed by Vatsala Vedanta's impression of the plight of muslims in India; the educational status. Though I have a different take in respect of Tamil Nadu where due to sincere efforts of committed muslims the destiny of these children is some what better and that includes the girls as well. I t has become a fashion in our country to politicize every issue major or minor in an aberrated manner forgetting the reality of the situation. Vishwaroopam is purely art, so the art lovers say, then why introduce even slightest doubt in the minds of people that ...
"I still have hope things may be settled with Tamil Nadu government. For now, I may wait before moving to Supreme Court," said Kamal Haasan said.
We're already talking about our next trip to India. I love Tamil Nadu, those Tamils are just so political and we have friends there. Jacqui can take it or leave it and wants to see Goa. I told her I'm not interested in beaches and superannuated hippies. Now Goa is in the state of Maharashtra which is where you'll find Mumbai, a place we both love. You can get a Deccan Odyssey train journey that takes you through Maharashtra, visiting heritage and pilgrim sites. I also want to see Punjab where you'll find the Sikh community. A lot of Indians don't like them. I don't think they've forgiven them for the assassination of Indira Gandhi. Still, Punjab sounds spectacular. So we have a lot to discuss.
India's Atomic Research First Nuclear Explosion Carried out on May 18, 1974 at Pokharan in Rajasthan (Thar) desert. A dirty job, but somebody's got to do it The Bar Association of Saket's s resolution that none of its lawyers will defend the accused in the Delhi gangrape case is not only illegal but also against all traditions of the bar and professional ethics. As observed in AS Mohammed Rafi vs State of Tamil Nadu, AIR 2011 SC 308. "Every person, however wicked, depraved, or repulsive he may be regarded by society has a right to be defended in a court of law, and correspondingly it is the duty of the lawyer to defend him." Indian lawyers have followed this great tradition. The revolutionaries in Bengal during British rule were defended by our lawyers, the Indian communists were defended in the Meerut conspiracy case, Razakars of Hyderabad were defended by our lawyers, Sheikh Abdullah and his co-accused were defended by them, and so were the alleged assassins of Mahatma Gandhi and Indira Gandhi. In recent times, Binayak Sen has been defended and so was 26/11 terrorist Ajmal Kasab. Article 22(1) of the Constitution sta ...

The last king of the Wadiyar dynasty was Jayachamaraja Wodeyar, who ruled from 1940 until Indian independence from British rule. In the year 1947, after India attained independence, he acceded his Kingdom to the dominion of India, but continued as the Maharaja until India became a Republic in 1950. He became the Raja Pramukh—a constitutional position—as the head of Mysore State within the Republic of India from 1950-1956. After the re-organization of Indian States on linguistic basis, he was appointed as the Governor of the integrated Mysore State (present Karnataka state) in 1956, which post he held until 1964. After that he was Governor of Madras state (now Tamil Nadu) for two years. But the Indian Constitution continued to recognize him as the Maharaja of Mysore until 1971, when Mrs. Indira Gandhi, then Prime Minister of India abolished the titles and Privy Purse of well over 560 Maharajas spread over different parts of India. The Maharaja died in 1974. His only son Srikanta Datta Narasimha Raja Wa ...
2.3 Conceptualising Media-Society Relations 2.3.1 India, a beleaguered nation state In many respects, the postcolonial Indian state has preceded, historically, the formation of anunified Indian nation. Moreover, throughout the country’s recent history, and especially in the1980s, the postcolonial Indian state was challenged by fragmentation along various lines of contestation. Ethnic conflicts and politics of separation characterised the national situation duringIndira and Rajiv Gandhi’s premiership.11While Centre-state relations deteriorated dramaticallyin the North East (Assam, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, etc.), Punjab and Kashmir, the southernstate of Tamil Nadu was increasingly destabilised by the escalating Tamil-Singhalese civil warin Sri Lanka. These conflicts caused not only the death of thousands of Indians, but led also tothe assassination of Indira Gandhi (by her Sikh bodyguards) in October 1984 and Rajiv Gandhi(by a LTTE suicide bomber) in May 1991. Socio-economic caste conflicts, in addit ...
Well, I have seen young women in remote rural Tamil Nadu with the official name "Indira Gandhi". Even today. Similarly in AP.
The Madras anti-Hindi agitation of 1965 are a series of agitations that happened in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu (formerly Madras State) in 1965. The agitations involved several mass protests, riots, student and political movements in Tamil Nadu, and concerned the official status of Hindi in the state and in the Indian Republic. Adoption of an official language for the Indian Republic was a hotly debated issue during the framing of the Indian Constitution after India's independence from Britain. After an exhaustive and divisive debate, Hindi was adopted as the official language of India with English continuing as an associate official language for a period of fifteen years, after which Hindi would become the sole official language. The new Constitution came into effect on 26 January 1950. Efforts by the Indian Government to make Hindi the sole official language after 1965 were not acceptable to many non-Hindi Indian states, who wanted the continued use of English. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) led ...
Early life and education Kalam was born on 15 October 1931, at Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu, the son of Jainulabdeen, a boat owner and Ashiamma, a housewife.[1][2][3][4] He came from a poor background and started working at an early age to supplement his family's income.[5] He was brought up in a multi-religious environment but did follow a religious routine. As a child, he had a discipline of starting the day at 4:00 am following the footsteps of his father[3] to do homework before going to school to attend mathematics classes.[6] After completing school, Kalam distributed newspapers in order to financially contribute to his father's income.[5] In his school years, he had average grades, but was described as a bright and hardworking student who had a strong desire to learn and who spent hours on his studies, especially mathematics.[6] "I inherited honesty and self-discipline from my father; from my mother, I inherited faith in goodness and deep kindness as did my three brothers and sisters." —A quote from ...
