Early politics Swamy's career started with his involvement in Jayaprakash Narayan's Sarvodaya movement, which was an apolitical movement but which formed the foundation of the creation of Janta Party later.[15] The real turn in his political career came after his sacking from IIT. Liberal economic policies put forward by him didn't go well with the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi who discredited him as 'Santa Claus with unrealistic ideas'. As a result he was expelled from Indian Institute of Technology. This marked the beginning of his active political career. Staunch opponent of Indira Gandhi and right wing political party Jansangh sent him to Rajya Sabha - the upper house of Indian Parliament.[4] He was elected Member of Parliament 5 times between 1974 and 1999. He has twice represented the city of Mumbai North East during 1977 and 1980, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu in the Parliament.[4] During the period of emergency, he fled to America, seeking safe haven with an Indian businessman in Michigan who h ...
By » [ Mudasir Yaqoob / Kashmir Headlines] Srinagar, Mar 10: Mutahida Majlise Mashawrat (MMM), a joint Council of various separatist organisations, Sunday announced fresh protest calendar for the coming week calling for a civil curfew on Wednesday. The Majlis reiterated its call for launching a campaign on social media for demanding return of mortal remains of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru and JKLF founder Maqbool Bhat. In a statement to KNS, Majlis asked people not to observe any strike on Monday and only hold protests after Magrib prayers. There won’t be any strike on Tuesday either, but the government employees have been asked to observe one hour pen down strike raising pro freedom and demanding return of mortal remains slogans. The Majlis appealed the people to observe civil curfew on Wednesday while on Thursday Kashmiris living in foreign countries and other justice loving people have been asked to observe protests at Indian embassies and high commissions to press for the demand of return . ...
In documents submitted to the court, Afzal Guru states that prior to the attack he was subjected to painful and degrading torture in an STF camp. Deputy superintendent Devinder Singh subsequently admitted to carrying out the torture, thus corroborating Afzal’s claim. Afzal also claimed that he had met Tariq and Mohammed in the STF camps. Tariq—who had claimed to be working with STF—demanded that Afzal accompany Mohammed to Delhi and was threatened with severe consequences if he failed to comply. After having accompanied Mohammed to Delhi, he made his way back to Kashmir and was arrested two days after the attacks. None of these documents and statements were openly challenged in court. However, superintendent Singh’s confession to torturing Afzal is proof of the fact that the STF had contact with him. This raises the question, how does a man who has been under surveillance by Kashmir’s STF so easily conspire in an operation to lay siege on the Indian Parliament?
Shamim Shawl apprises UNHRC about Indian atrocities in kashmir. *.Kashmiri representative, Mrs Shamim Shwal addressed the 22nd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva on behalf of the International Muslim Women’s Union. Mrs Shamim Shwal said that human rights were universal, indivisible and interdependent. She said, the principle of universality means that every one is entitled to enjoy these rights without any distinction of any kind, such as race, color, sex, language, religion, political and other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. She deplored that despite accepting the recommendation to put a moratorium on death penalty, during the 2nd cycle of UPR, India hanged a Kashmir youth, Mohammad Afzal Guru in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail on February 9. She said that the execution of Afzal Guru, who was convicted for the 2001 attack on the Indian Parliament, had raised many inedible questions like ”Was it revenge or justice? Was it a surrender to “the c ...

i have written this post earlier but repeat it because i like that post very much. In 1983 when Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) was hosted by us, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth declared that she will honour Mother Teresa with Knighthood in the Durbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhavan. Unlike Australia & New Zealand, we are a republic nation and no other person except our own president can organise such a function in Rashtrapati Bhavan. Late Indira Gandhi was our PM at that time. She asked our then Foreign Secretary K Natwar Singh to resolve the issue but in vain. Then She wrote a letter to then British PM Margaret Thatcher which read "Her Majesty can very well knight Mother Teresa in Rashtrapati Bhavan. But we have adopted parliamentary model of democracy from United Kingdom and I do not wish that Her Majesty's reference comes in Indian Parliament". Immediately the function was cancelled and instead a tea party was organised by the Queen. Happy Women's Day to everyone belonging to this great natio ...
Afzal Guru: Victim Of Farce Investigation? There is no denying the fact that the attack on the Indian Parliament was the most serious challenge to Indian democracy and if it had been successful it would have had very long term consequences not only for India but for the entire region. Precisely for this reason it was imperative that the police and investigation agencies should have carried out an honest and vigorous investigation into the crime. Instead, the investigation agencies did a shoddy investigation, fabricated evidence and manipulated the sentiments of people by telling lies through the Media which culminated in surreptitious hanging of Afzal Guroo on 9th February 2013. Consider the fact that the so-called comprehensive investigation of the attack on Parliament was completed in 17 days flat by the investigating Agency — the Special Cell of the Delhi Police team headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rajbir Singh. Since the quality & outcome of investigation depends much on the charact ...
Afazal Guru (convicted for attack on the Indian Parliament in 2001) and Ajmal Kasab(convicted for Mumbai attacks in 2008) were guilty and were hanged. But Donte should have walked off scot- free. Confession by John Grisham is a real thriller. If you haven't read this, you've missed out on something big, specifically how the white world out there operates. Your comment are welcome. Don't here, by the way. Welcome to my blog "A Breath of Fresh Air"
Indian Parliament resembles Fight Club mostly. But yesterday it seems,it turned into a poetry darbar.
The amendments which were made in Representation of Peoples Act are seems to be ineffective. Despite the amendments prohibiting the criminals to enter into Indian Parliament and State Assembly, a lot of MPs and MLAs with criminal background are entering into the Parliamnet and the Assemblies. The Indian Parliamentarian if at all they are interested in keeping these people away are required to relook into the R.P.Act and make the law tougher so that elements like Raja Bhaiya are not allowed to enter into either the Assemblies and Parliament. Further the law makers must give more power to the Election Commission of India to implement these laws strictly and prohibit a member to enter into the house whenever a particular menber indulges in any criminal activity even after his election. Unless the law is drastically changed, we will see more and more of these elements in not only Assemblies and Parliament but also some of them will also be appointed as Ministers in this country.
The award for being adjourned most no. Of times should definitely go to the Indian Parliament (please don't put me in jail for this )
In Singapore: Are Filipinos Malay? Posted: September 4, 2011 | Author: voslego | Filed under: General Information | Tags: Filipinos, Malay, Singapore |7 Comments » (taken from Form 8 - MOM) Race…Been wondering which one to put a tick mark? Under the ‘RACE’ field, there are only 5 items to choose: Caucasian, Chinese, Indian, Malay and Others. And for Filipinos (true-blooded, with no significant traces of Caucasian, Chinese or other Asian or Western or even African blood in them), most of the time we will choose ‘Malay‘ as our race. This is what we learned at school. This is what our teachers taught us. Yes, every Filipino is right…Malay race is the brown race. And, Filipinos belong to the brown race. This is purely based on classifying the race on the color of the skin. A Caucasian is classified as belonging to the white race, an African as black, a Chinese belonging to the yellow race, and so on. Furthermore, Wikipedia defines that “…many Filipinos consider the term “Malay” to refer . ...

Who suffers Kashmir's strikes and curfews Each cycle of curfew and strikes in Kashmir takes a heavy toll on the livelihood of the majority of its six million inhabitants, and handicaps business especially in the transport and tourism industry. The Muslim-majority Kashmir Valley, also called India Administered Kashmir, is one of the most heavily militarized regions in the world. It continues to be a red line for India and Pakistan as both countries claim it. For one week in February, the Kashmir Valley came to a grinding halt after the Indian government imposed a curfew to avert any unrest following the hanging of Muhammad Afzal Guru, a Muslim man convicted of conspiracy in the terrorist attack on the Indian Parliament in 2001. Guru, who hails from the town of Sopore in the valley, was sentenced to death in 2002, and he was secretly executed and buried on Feb. 9 at the Tihar Jail in New Delhi. Even after the curfew was lifted on Feb. 15, the mostly Muslim valley remained paralyzed for another week because ...

It simulates committees in the Ministries, Planning Commission and regional bodies under which participants act as delegates to discuss and debate pressing national issues.   It laid its roots in 1st International Youth Forum for Policy, Change and Development 2012 and witnessed 100 potential delegates speaking on policy issues, discussing the framework and ultimately leading to youth awareness. It was formed to promote sustainability of knowledge in the areas of policy design and framework by enriching and inculcating acumen for policy design and debate inside contemporary generation.   We don’t wish our endeavor to be meteoric, but expect it become a cult- a National Movement occurring year after year. Indian Muslims and a large number of Hindus all over the globe are astonished and sadden by the horrible and divisible remark of BJP leader Sushma Swaraj, a daughter of a prominent RSS member, in the Indian Parliament against MIM supremo and Hyderabad MP barrister Asaduddin Owaisi, linking him to twin blasts in Hyderabad. In order to consolidate polarization of Hindu votes and a dreaming 2014 BJP Prime Minister, BJP is politically exploiting the highly condemnable act of heinous crime against humanity. This way, is she diverting the direction of security agencies towards real culprits or innocent citizens of the country? In this difficult time of great national sorrow, all Indians irrespective of political affiliation and religion must be united to uproot the terrorism and terrorists from the Indian soil in order to create, communal harmony, love and peace among all Indian Citizens. Muslims are not against any political party of India. However, they are definitely against a party that likes to margin ...
Lokpal Bill movement Anna Hazare's hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. Indian anti-corruption movement In 2011, Hazare initiated a Satyagraha movement for passing a stronger anti-corruption Lokpal (ombudsman) bill in the Indian Parliament, the Jan Lokpal Bill (People's Ombudsman Bill). The Jan Lokpal Bill was drafted earlier by N. Santosh Hegde, former justice of the Supreme Court of India and Lokayukta of Karnataka, Prashant Bhushan, a senior lawyer in the Supreme Court and Arvind Kejriwal, a social activist along with members of the India Against Corruption movement. The draft incorporated more stringent provisions and gave wider power to the Lokpal (Ombudsman) than the government's 2010 draft. These included placing "the Prime Minister within the ambit of the proposed lokpal’s powers".
Afzal Guru’s Wife’s Letter: An Appeal that Remained Unheard A Wife’s Appeal for justice: i am the wife of Mohammad Afzal, the man accused of conspiring to attack the Indian Parliament on December 13, 2001. Afzal has been condemned to death by the Sessions Court Judge, S N Dhingra and his death sentence has been confirmed by the Hon’ble High Court of Delhi. Now the case has come up before the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. All over India people have condemned the attack on Parliament. And I agree that it was a terrorist attack and must be condemned. However, it is also important that the people accused of such a serious crime be given a fair trial and their story be fully heard before they are punished. I believe that no one has heard my husband’s story and he has so far never been represented in the court properly. I appeal to you to hear our story and then decide for yourselves whether justice has been done. Afzal and my story is the story of many young Kashmiri couples. Our story represents ...

WORLD NEWS – INDIA INDIA TO LAUNCH ITS FIRST MARS MISSION THIS YEAR Addressing the joint session of the Upper and Lower House of the Indian Parliament at the start of the budget session on Feb. 20, India's President Pranab Mukherjee told the parliamentarians "several space missions are planned for 2013, including India's first mission to Mars and the launch of our first navigational satellite." The Mars Orbiter mission includes putting in orbit, in October of this year, an Indian-made spacecraft which will use the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV). The satellite will undertake a 300-day journey to Mars and is expected to be put into the Martian orbit in September next year. Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) scientists expect the satellite to orbit at less than 100 km (62 miles) above Mars. India is also looking at landing a wheeled rover on the Moon in 2014. Guru Cables – I.cable that was leaked by whistle-blowerwebsite Wikileaks was sent from US’s Delhi mission to Washington in October 2006. It offers details about how diplomats saw the situation in Kashmir after the apex court upheld Afzal Guru’s death sentence in 2006. 1.Summary. The Srinagar Valley erupted in protest during the first weeks of Ramazanwhen the Indian Supreme Court upheld a death sentence for Mohammad Afzal Guru, a convicted facilitator of the 2001 attacks on the Indian Parliament. The Indian President has granted Afzal’s family a temporary reprieve, postponing indefinitely his execution until the Home Ministry puts forward a recommendation for or against clemency. India rarely carries out the death penalty, and if Afzal is hanged, he would be only the second convicted terrorist from Jammu and Kashmir formally executed during more than 15 years of armed conflict. For the sections of Srinagar’s Muslim population who have been outspoken on this issue, the possible execution highlights ...

Banking The Votes. Amit kumar pandey (SBI,KolKata) Res: Pakri ,Ara Bihar NOTE: This is a million dollar idea for Free, Fairer and Faster and yet the cheapest way to conduct elections. India being the largest democracy seems to be the busiest as well. There are always elections taking place in various parts of the country for one reason or the other. And to conduct elections free, fair and events-free in India is a great success for election commission. India being a struggling economy and a country divided by various faith and regions, her elections costs her dearly-economically and otherwise. In February 2009, Rs.1,120 Crores ($200.5 million) was budgeted for election expenses by the Indian Parliament for the last general election. Hence, we constantly need to find ways to make our elections cheaper and yet our democratic processes more robust and responding. EVMs were a step in this direction. "manner of hanging Afzal Guru is a blot on Indian Democracy.stresses humanitarian rather than constitution.sees not handing over body to guru's family as justified in view of security reasons.bats for abolition of death penalty but only if life sentence is for natural life in rarest of rare cases is promulgated first in the Indian Parliament." -Fali.S.Nariman, a distinguished jurist in an interview to Karan Thapar just a day back.
DEAR INDIANS PLEASE READ FOR THE SAKE OF YOUR RAM & SITA Outlook Magazine Oct 30, 2006 'And His Life Should Become Extinct' The Very Strange Story of the Attack on the Indian Parliament -- By ARUNDHATI ROY We know this much: On December 13, 2001, the Indian Parliament was in its winter session. (The NDA government was under attack for yet another corruption scandal.) At 11.30 in the morning, five armed men in a white Ambassador car fitted out with an Improvised Explosive Device drove through the gates of Parliament House. When they were challenged, they jumped out of the car and opened fire. In the gun battle that followed, all the attackers were killed. Eight security personnel and a gardener were killed too. The dead terrorists, the police said, had enough explosives to blow up the Parliament building, and enough ammunition to take on a whole battalion of soldiers. Unlike most terrorists, these five left behind a thick trail of evidence-weapons, mobile phones, phone numbers, ID cards, photographs, packe ...
He was making bombs at an under construction building opposite Garden Reach's Hari Mohan Ghosh College , in the early hours of the morning to attack police and students opposed to the Ruling Party in the morning , when the bombs went off . He was critically injured as one of his hands got blown off . He admitted the crime to the Police and his statement was recorded . His father is a Ruling Party Councillor . His body taken to a crematorium where two controversial ministers including Firhad Hakim , accused of sheltering the killers of the Police Officer landed up with an influential Member of Indian Parliament . The MP tried to justify his attending the cremation by saying , since , the crematorium was in his constituency it was his duty to attend the cremation. There are so many crem ...
The innocence of Afzal Guru By Prakash Kona Posted on February 12, 2013 by Prakash Kona I’m far more convinced that Narendra Modi is singularly guilty for the Gujarat riots of 2002 that killed close to one thousand Muslims than I am of Afzal Guru’s guilt in the Indian Parliament attack of 2001. Yet, if life must continue to be unfair, Narendra Modi might actually be the Prime Minister of India if he has to oppose a political Lilliputian such as Rahul Gandhi who simply does not have the wherewithal to run a country of India’s magnitude. Narendra Modi is the exact opposite of the current Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh. Modi will stop to nothing where Manmohan Singh does not make a beginning. Modi is a relentless and cruel man who knows politics while Manmohan Singh is a passive and weak person who has no clue what politics means. I don’t think the likes of Rahul Gandhi and Shashi Tharoor are remotely a match to the wit and viciousness of Narendra Modi. The former are better off going bowlin ...
These were the parting words of Al-Malik al-Nasir al-Sultan Salah al-Din Yusuf ibn Ayyub, better known in history as Saladin(1138-1193), Sultan of Egypt and Syria who captured (1187)Jerusalem and defended it during the Third Crusade (1189-1192),to his son aI-Zahir shortly before his death.
All the perfumes of Arabia, by Markandey Katju, Hindu, 15.2.13 Narendra Modi is being projected by a large section of Indians as the modern Moses, the one who will lead the beleaguered and despondent Indian people into a land of milk and honey, the man who is best suited to be the next Indian Prime Minister. And it is not just the Bharatiya Janata Party and RSS who are saying this at the Kumbh Mela. A large section of the Indian so-called ‘educated’ class, including many of our ‘educated’ youth, who have been carried away by Mr. Modi’s propaganda is saying this. I was flying from Delhi to Bhopal recently. Sitting beside me was a Gujarati businessman. I asked him his opinion of Mr. Modi. He was all praise for him. I interjected and asked him about the killing of nearly 2,000 Muslims in 2002 in Gujarat. He replied that Muslims were always creating problems in Gujarat, but after 2002 they have been put in their place and there is peace since then in the State. I told him this is the peace of the gr ...
indian civil society writes to president Guru’s Execution ‘You erred by rejecting mercy plea’ The civil society activists in the petition addressed to the President Mukherjee submitted that they felt he had made a grave error in rejecting the mercy petition. “If you had perused the trial records and the lengthy documentation put together over the years by lawyers and civil rights activists, or even the Supreme Court judgement which sentenced Afzal to death, you would have known, that his guilt was never established beyond reasonable doubt,” the petition of the civil society members read. “The fact that the Court appointed as amicus curiae (friend of the court) a lawyer in whom Afzal had expressed no faith; the fact that he went legally unrepresented from the time of his arrest till his so-called confession, the fact that the court asked him to either accept the lawyer appointed by the Court or cross examine the witness himself should surely have concerned you while considering his mercy petiti ...

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, is both the head of state and the spiritual leader of Tibet. He was born on 6 July 1935, to a farming family, in a small hamlet located in Taktser, Amdo, northeastern Tibet. At the age of two the child, who was named Lhamo Dhondup at that time was recognized as the reincarnation of the 13th Dalai Lama, Thubten Gyatso. The Dalai Lamas are believed to be manifestations of Avalokiteshvara or Chenrezig, the Bodhisattva of Compassion and patron saint of Tibet. Bodhisattvas are enlightened beings who have postponed their own nirvana and chosen to take rebirth in order to serve humanity. Education in Tibet His Holiness began his monastic education at the age of six. The curriculum consisted of five major and five minor subjects. The major subjects were logic, Tibetan art and culture, Sanskrit, medicine, and Buddhist philosophy which was further divided into a further five categories: Prajnaparimita, the perfection of wisdom; Madhyamika, the philosophy of the ...
Lack of moral teaching may be considered a factor for enhancement of corruption. quality of various technical oriented education might have been developed to meet the advancement of today's world. But the negative activities overpower the positive ones. For example we notice from the daily news papers that a majority of ATM robberies are assisted by some engineering persons. A number of bank employees are seen to be associated with the bank robbers. De-gradation of teaching or lack of moral teaching can be considered as a failure/degradation in our system and directly relates to our present political system. Every single indian must have very clear idea about the difference between Mrs. Pratibha Devi Singh Patil and Mr. APJ Abdul Kalam. But how the things were manipulated by our politicians ? During the debate on FDI on the floor of parliament people have noticed that politicians or political parties vomiting poison against FDI have voted in support of the same. Don't we think there is some corruption in ...
Brief History Of Insurance The story of insurance is probably as old as the story of mankind. The same instinct that prompts modern businessmen today to secure themselves against loss and disaster existed in primitive men also. They too sought to avert the evil consequences of fire and flood and loss of life and were willing to make some sort of sacrifice in order to achieve security. Though the concept of insurance is largely a development of the recent past, particularly after the industrial era – past few centuries – yet its beginnings date back almost 6000 years. Life Insurance in its modern form came to India from England in the year 1818. Oriental Life Insurance Company started by Europeans in Calcutta was the first life insurance company on Indian Soil. All the insurance companies established during that period were brought up with the purpose of looking after the needs of European community and Indian natives were not being insured by these companies. However, later with the efforts of eminent ...
We are the second largest populated country in the world. We have the worst form of slavery i.e. untouchability still going on our country. We have 6.5 crore Child laborers. More than 2 lakhs farmers have committed suicide till today. Almost half of the Indian children are malnourished. More than 50 percent people have no recourse than to relieve themselves in open like animals. Manual scavenging is still a disgusting reality in most States despite an Act of Parliament banning it. OBCs being the major part of Indian population have negligible representation in most of the institutions of democracy Budget Provision for education is less than 3% of the total budget. Only 36 individuals hold more than 60% of the total wealth in of India. The lands of farmers are being snatched forcefully in the name of SEZs. PRESS STATEMENT: MALAYSIAKINI COMMENT ON HINDRAF CONTESTING IN GE 13 & HINDRAF BLUEPRINT I refer to Malaysiakini comment by Terrence Netto dated 14th Feb 2013 and wish to respond accordingly. In making this clarification I am cautious and take cognisant to the high level confidential discussions that took place initially between PKR on 1st November 2013 and subsequent meetings with top Pakatan Rakyat leadership and still continuing. We are however disappointed those confidential discussions could be leaked and we believe there is a sinister motive behind this by irresponsible parties to break the possible co-operation between Hindraf and Pakatan On behalf of Hindraf I made the proposal for Hindraf to contest against all MIC held seats as part of our contribution of bringing about political and social change in Malaysia. This proposal was made from the very beginning of our meeting with Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim. We made it clear to him that this request for strategic partnership was made to cater the voice ...
Shri C. Subramaniam assumed the office of the Governor of Maharashtra on 15th February 1990. Elder statesman, administrator, thinker, speaker and writer, Shri C. Subramaniam is, first and foremost, a patriot devoted, in pre-Independence days, to the cause of freedom and, later, to the development of the country and the preservation of its rich cultural heritage. There are few fields of the countrys development, economic and social, with which he was not associated and in which he has not left his indelible imprint during the last four decades of freedom. Shri C. Subramaniam is best known as the architect of Indias modern agricultural development policy, after the success of his programme which led to a record production of wheat in 1972an achievement appropriately termed as the Green Revolution . About Shri Subramaniams contribution Dr. Norman E. Borlaug, the Nobel Laureate, writes: "The vision and influence of Mr. Subramaniam in bringing about agricultural change and in the very necessa ...

We need to change laws related to sexual assault: Meenakshi Ganguly of Human Rights Watch Meenakshi Ganguly, director of Human Rights Watch on joined IBNLive readers for an interaction on how intrinsically inalienable is the issue of women's rights to the global human rights movement. Q. Hello Mam, Please let us know how far religion plays a role in safeguarding the human rights of women? Is it true that Kashmir is much safer for women as compared to any part of the country (leave apart the political turmoil)? If so.. Why? Asked by: PM Ashok A. Most religions try to perpetuate a culture of patriarchy. On this day, there is a global effort to ensure that every woman citizen of the world has full and equal rights. If we want an end to crimes against women, including sexual violence, then we all need to believe that women have the right to live with dignity, and with full autonomy to make their choices. In Kashmir, that should include the right of young women to sing their songs. In north India, that means w ...

A vision document for CONSTITUTIONS Reforms It is a well-known fact that the Indian Constitution is the collected output of different laws enacted by British Parliament and also the provisions mentioned in the constitutions of different countries. Many shortcomings have been reported by many constitutional experts, judicial luminaries and Members of Parliament in practical implementation of the Constitution. The formation of a Constitution Review Commission seems eminent to reframe and amend the present Constitution as per the suggestions came up. Truly materialising all the Directive Principles, mentioned in the Constitution, is need of the hour now. It is very unfortunate that the successive governments have been insensitive to practically materialising these ideals. We demand to recognise all Directive Principles as Fundamental Rights of citizens. In order to facilitate smooth functioning, the Constitution has clearly divided the work of Centre and States. But practically, the Central Government has be ...
How a brutal crime led to formation of anti-rape ordinance Published: Monday, February 4, 2013, 11:19 [IST] It was termed as a historic move when President Pranab Mukherjee gave his approval and signed the anti-rape ordinance on Sunday, Feb 4. Experts say it is perhaps the quickest law which has been amended by Centre in legislative history of our country. The reasons for it is known to all--public anger and protest--demanding safety of women. Those who have been closely observing the turn of events in the wake of brutal Delhi gang-rape and murder of a 23-year-old paramedical student on Dec 16, 2012, anger of public against crime against women is quite palpable. The victim, who was accompanied by her male friend in the bus died in a Singapore hospital on Dec 29, 2012. The Congress led UPA government sensed public sentiment well. In the aftermath of the horrific crime, government was fast enough to form Justice Verma Committee to suggest tougher laws for crimes against women. The panel was headed by former ...

Guru – The Perfect Low Hanging Fruit Author: Vidyut Kale is a blogger and a commentator on social and socio-political issues There is a lot of noise and emotion over the death of Afzal Guru. In the din, there are several extremely significant things going unnoticed. I am no analyst, but I am a people watcher, and my not cheering for any particular outcome in Kashmir leaves me free to see things through a lens perhaps not available to too many. Here is what I see. Sarkar executed Afzal Guru. 1. Not only did Sarkar execute Afzal Guru, they executed him in a manner guaranteed to trigger the most hostility. Many think the secrecy helped keep peace. This may be superficially true in terms of protests before the hanging being avoided, but the protests are happening anyway. So are the curfews. The inherent insult in the exclusion – not just of Kashmir, but his wife and the Chief Minister of the state as well is far more likely to be seen as a deliberate slap. It is no secret that most in Kashmir believe Afza ...

Revised Food Security Bill to be Placed in the Parliament During Budget Session The Government intends to present the revised National Food Security Bill in the Parliament during Budget Session for consideration and passage, so that the people are ensured of its benefits at the earliest. The Bill, to provide food security for all in a rights based manner, is being finalised in the light of recommendations of Parliamentary Standing Committee. This was stated by Prof K.V Thomas, Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution while having final round ofconsultations with the states, here today, before finalising the Bill. He said that the States have to play a very crucial role in this historic and path-breaking initiative and urged them to strengthen Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) including intermediate storage facilities at all levels in order to be able to successfully implement the Act. The National Food Security Bill was introduced in the LokSabha in December, 2011 and thereafter w ...
when did British Parliament pass the Indian Indepence Bill?
India is a country of around 33 crore gods, that makes it one god for almost three or four people, but it does not look as if god is in charge. We are almost divided vertically, horizontally, in almost all geometric fashion that one can think of. Ajmal Kasab was hanged we celebrated, Afzal Guru was hanged there was celebration. My point is that how did we allow this to happen, ten boys just walk in to Mumbai and then hold the city on the trigger. A few just drive into the parliament and then kill, we are told just imagine if they had got into the parliament, my point is leave the parliament, how did they get inside. We are not told, we cannot ask, even if you ask there are no sincere apt replies. prevention is better but then we seem to disregard this. We allow things to seep in,we are hardly prepared, innocent lives are lost then there is a great debate especially on all the channels, we have our snacks and food watching this, we seem to like this shadow boxing, argument, we take sides and get bac ...
Finally after raping the democracy and murdering the multi-party -system the political parties decided to appoint the working CJ as PM –Now we will have PM/CJ one person and as there is no parliament the presence of third force the legislative do not exist. The mum of the CJ in the issue and his acceptance of the PM announced in the party function suggest without any doubt that he has already accepted to go in the Maoist line. There are many conclusions one can draw from the present development of Nautangi politics in the country but my conclusion are as following • Nepalese political parties are run by south-block and they are nothing but the puppets of the Indian. • The NC and UML will do anything from licking the boot of Maoist to the Indian politicians to get some petty personal benefit. • Nepalese politics is neither for the betterment of the country nor for the democratic right of the Nepalese people but for the amalgamation of Nepal to India. • Now it will be shame for the democracy lovi ...
Indians were at the forefront of global protests on Thursday in the One Billion Rising campaign for women's rights, galvanised by the recent fatal gang rape that shocked the country. Flashmobs, marches, singing and dances were planned in about 200 countries as part of the campaign's day of action, timed to coincide with Valentine's Day and aiming to bring an end to violence against women. In New Delhi, the site of angry protests just weeks ago after the brutal rape of a student on a bus, campaigners said they would use the day to keep pressure on the government to introduce new measures to protect women. "Our programmes have started in colleges and I am going with women taxi drivers to spread the word of equality because today is the day of love," Kamla Bhasin, leading the campaign in South Asia, told AFP. Along with protests and candle-lit marches, India's plans included a noisy "open drum circle" at sunset by the sea in Mumbai and a "ceremonial burial" of patriarchy and misogyny in Gurgaon city, near th ...

The Growth of Islamism in the Pakistan Army Islamization of the Pakistan Army is of significant concern to the National Security of the United States. Success in the United States’ campaign against global terrorism rests in large part with the fate of Pakistan. Many actors are at work within its borders to turn that nation and its army decisively against the United States and its interests in the region. Understanding these forces will allow American decision and policy makers to identify risks to the status quo and help mitigate threatening outcomes of Pakistan’s internal struggles. This essay first defines the history of those risks and the significance behind them. Islamization of the Pakistan Army has been occurring in some form since its birth in 1947. The nation was founded on the unity of a common religion. This religious identity was ingrained in the Army as a way of distinguishing itself from its Hindu counterpart. Officials accomplished this in superficial ways initially In its early ...
*DONT FORGET KASHMIR * Unknown to most Muslims at the moment, there is a tormenting crisis underway in Kashmir, which is once again under lockdown. I'm pasting the painful words of a brother from there, but first, some background. In late 2001, Indian parliament was 'attacked by islamist militants'; 6 guards and a gardener were killed. The country went into a frenzy added to the 9/11 hysteria, it was a time of paranoia and silly headlines. A few months later a man by the name of Afzal Guru was charged (among others, who were since acquitted); he was eventually found guilty in a bogus witch-hunt trial. He was hangled last Thursday and his family was told only after his execution that he had been killed. He was from Kashmir. He is one of tens of thousands of Kashmiris who have been denied humanity by the Indian military and government over the years. So after last Thursday's execution, India's army went into hypertension, and the following is the result, from a Kashmiri brother: "It's the fourth day of comp ...
_*Reform Act of 2013*_ 1. No Tenure / No Pension. Parliamentarians collect a salary while in office but should not receive any pay when they're out of office. 2. Parliamentarians should purchase their own retirement plans, just as all Indians do. 3. Parliamentarians should no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Their pay should be linked to the CPI or 3%, whichever is lower. 4. Parliamentarians should lose their current health care system and participate in the same health care system as the Indian people. 5. Parliamentarians should equally abide by all laws they impose on the Indian people. 6. All contracts with past and present Parliamentarians should be void effective 1/1/12. The Indian people did not make this contract with them. Parliamentarians made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Parliament is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work. If each person shares this, then it will only t . ...

What is IPC - 498A ? Why is it misused ? Passed by Indian Parliament in 1983, Indian Penal Code 498A, is a criminal law (not a civil law) which is defined as follows, “Whoever, being the husband or the relative of the husband of a woman, subjects such woman to cruelty shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years and shall also be liable to fine. The offence is Cognizable, non-compoundable and non-bailable. Please read the Act 46 of 1983 to understand 498a better. How are you at risk and why it is dangerous for the society? Your wife/daughter-in-law who's demands are not met can make a written false complaint of dowry harassment to a nearby police station. The husband, his old parents and relatives are immediately arrested without sufficient investigation and put behind bars on a non-bailable terms. Even if the complaint is false, you shall be presumed guilty until you prove that you are innocent. 498A can only be invoked by wife/daughter-in-law or her relative. Most cas ...

Some of our friends seem to justify post retirement plum postings of retired bureaucrats in Govt organisations and feel that it could be due to their vast experience, uprightness, integrity and honesty. We want to ask them, why officers like Vinod Rai (CAG), Ashok Khemka (IAS) or for that matter any officer who has ever questioned Govt are never given such postings after retirement? On the contrary, they are hounded even while serving the nation!!
New Delhi: Women senators from Afghanistan have said they wanted US troops out of their country and would not mind having the Taliban in the government so long as they respected the constitution. "We want the US out of Afghanistan, but as far as Taliban is concerned, anyone who is a resident of Afghanistan can be a part of the government, if they respect the constitution and women's rights," said Tayeba Zahidi, member of the upper house of Afghanistan, during an interaction with Indian journalists at the Indian Women's Press Corps. The senators said the incidents of the last few decades in Afghanistan have affected women, who have fought back and are emerging into their own again. "In past 35 years, lots of incidents have occurred which have affected women. But Afghan women have fought back. Our parliament and legal structure is fighting to rid society of violence and make things safe for women," Sediqua Balbhi, another member of Afghanistan's upper house said. The women said more and more women are now g ...
In a show of strength in the Pakistani capital, several banned anti-India militant groups, including the Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, today vowed to take “revenge” for the execution of Afzal Guru and step up their “Jihad” in Jammu and Kashmir. Scores of members of the groups gathered at th...
On February 11, 1984, Maqbool Bhat was hanged to death in Tihar Jail. The decision had been taken carefully after weighing the possible options. But nobody in the security establishment had guessed that Kashmir would take to the streets in protest against the execution. Nobody had been able to foresee that it would ignite a blaze in the valley – a blaze which would make Kashmir virtually inaccessible all through the nineties. Comparison is bound to arise between the two hangings — of Bhat and of Guru. For, both have the potential to set the valley on fire, especially when peace has returned to most parts of Kashmir in recent months. The last prolonged period of violence with daily stone-pelting was in the autumn of 2010. Omar Abdullah had largely been in control except for the killing of sarpanchs in recent months. Tourist traffic had grown in volume because peace and tranquility prevailed. Guru’s case had been constructed with circumstantial evidence. It had its critics both in the legal fraternity ...
Solution to Kashmir Issue : by Dr. Swamy - I believe that the Kashmir "issue"[1] can no more be solved by dialogue either with the Pakistanis or the Hurriyat[2] This is because the Pakistan army has now a majority of captains and colonels owing allegiance to the Taliban. In another five years, they will reach, by promotions, the corp commander level. We know that the government in Pakistan is controlled by the seven corp commanders of the army. Therefore a Taliban government in Pakistan is inevitable and a jehad against India the logical consequence of the same. In turn the Hurriyat is an organization that cannot go against Pakistan. Hence India has about five years to prepare for a decisive and defining war with Pakistan and we must prepare to win it. We therefore have to throw out of office in the coming elections all those Indian politicians who crave or preen themselves on being popular in Pakistan by sounding reasonable and secular as also equivocating on every issue. For the survival of the ancient ...
SHAME on you the so called Human Right Activists and Arundati Roy and all those who support them in favor of Afsal Guru and Ajmal Kasab. You live the free life security provided to you by the Indian soldiers who laid their lives for the country so that you all could live a fearless life. Where were you people's human right claim when 156 people were killed during the Mumbai attack , and 7 security forces where killed during Parliament attack? When ASI Thukaram captured Ajmal Kasab he had 30 bullets in his body and died a heroic death , didn't the ASI have rights to live?. 100s of Indian soldiers die every year protecting the country from terrorist and intruders . Where were you when those brave soldiers was laying down their lives while protecting your freedom? Weern't those soldiers humans to have human rights??? The least you can do is don't dishonor those brave soldier's sacrifice , stop shedding tears and speaking for those terrorist.
A peace process gone missing Will parliamentarians live up to their institution by ceasing to paralyse it? My Take Radha Kumar On the day Afzal Guru was given the death penalty, TV talk shows were abuzz about whether the decision was political. Their assumption, clearly, was that it should not be. I accept the government’s position that it was not. My point is that it should have been. The politics most anchors have referred to are basic. Indeed, it is absurd to claim that the decision to hang was taken with elections in view, or to silence the BJP’s disingenuous clamour over rightwing extremism. The larger political question is whether, and in what ways, the government factored in the impact that Afzal Guru’s hanging was likely to have in Jammu and Kashmir. This question has different dimensions: first, how to handle the inevitable protests; second, how to deal with the longer term, and equally predictable, consequences. The preventive steps the government took indicate that they were aware there w ...

It Takes a Great Man to change history but also take an *** to divide the nation – Moderate Chinese Must Condemn the “finger showing” to the Queen * Remember the history of World War One? Somebody shot the Prince Ferdinand of Austria during his visit in Sarajevo and 1 month later the war started. The assassination sparks the war amidst political tensions in Europe. Remember our very own black 13 May 1969? It was not that 1,000 out of 10,000 Gerakan or DAP supporters that hurled “Melayu Balik Kampong” and so on.during their victory possession at Kampong Baru that sparks the riot. It was only a handful few. And the murder of an UMNO worker in Penang was also by a few youth. Perhaps the majority of Chinese back then were nice ordinary level headed people like you and I but the few bad apples changed history. And that’s how it works and that’s how it will if you are not careful with your statements. What you post here can be viral. It can sparks hatred. It can change history. You see, it only .. ...

Police said they had briefly detained Amir for questioning in connection with the recent stone pelting in Srinagar. Amir was later released, police added. India hanged Mohammad Afzal Guru, a Kashmiri man, on Saturday for an attack on the country's parliament in 2001, sparking clashes in Kashmir between protesters and police. Security forces had imposed a curfew in parts of Kashmir and ordered people off the streets. — Danish Ismail, Reuters, Feb.13, 2013 SRINAGAR, INDIA — Authorities have relaxed a curfew in much of Indian-ruled Kashmir after days of protests over the secret execution of a Kashmiri man convicted in an attack on India's Parliament. However, the curfew remained in effect Thursday for the sixth straight day in more than a dozen places, including parts of Srinagar, Kashmir's main city. The region was rocked by violent anti-India protest ...

I made the following statement in the Senate yesterday. Idle No More Movement Hon. Nick G. Sibbeston: Honourable senators, over the last few months, Canadians have witnessed hundreds of marches, demonstrations, round dances, teach-ins and blockades carried out by the Idle No More movement. These peaceful events have taken place across the country from coast to coast to coast. They have happened in malls, at border crossings and bridges, in the streets and on Parliament Hill. In big cities and small towns, Aboriginal people — mostly young people — and their non-Aboriginal supporters have gathered to raise awareness of the plight of Aboriginal people in our country. In my own hometown of Fort Simpson, there were a number of Idle No More events, some planned and some that arose spontaneously. I attended several and was invited to speak at them. I will quote what happened at one of those. "Senator Nick Sibbeston's voice choked up on two occasions while addressing the crowd. Sibbeston said he is both emoti ...

PM’s snub to Shinde: Geelani calls it ‘akin to wiping tears’ | Strategic unity not discussed, will be discussed in Sgr | Asks people to assemble at ‘martyrs’ graveyards’ of respective areas on Friday | Omar did for Guru what Farooq did in Bhat’s Case: Hurriyat (G) --- Srinagar, Feb 14: While reacting to media reports suggesting that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had snubbed Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde for the way parliament attack convict Muhammad Afzal Guru was hanged without informing his family, Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani termed it as ‘too little too late and akin to wiping tears’. “As the Prime Minister of the country, he would have known and would have given directives. It is insignificant now and nothing more than wiping tears”, said Geelani while talking to KNS from New Delhi. He said the conviction and hanging of Guru was bereft of legal sentiment. “The family should have been allowed to meet before Shaheed Guru was hanged. To add salt to ...

UPA strays off Sonia's course     On November 20, 2012, India was one of 39 countries that voted against the U.N. General Assembly draft resolution, which called for the abolition of the death penalty. A day later, Ajmal Kasab was hanged after being pronounced guilty of perpetrating terrorist attacks on Mumbai on November 26, 2008. Afzal Guru was executed on February 9, 2013. Although there is a world of difference between the two cases, there are questions that arise in common in relation to the death penalty. The eschewing of the death penalty is not a matter of judicial reason alone. It is not the prerogative of courts. In fact, the writ of the courts is limited. It is essentially a matter of politics. On what basis did the government vote to retain the death penalty? On what basis did the former President turn down a mercy petition? On what basis does the UPA government push for the rejection of mercy petitions by the President? These questions have a context that we have lost sight of. ...

India 1900 to 1947 In 1900, India was part of the British Empire; but by the end of 1947, India had achieved independence. For most of the Nineteenth Century, India was ruled by the British. India was considered the jewel in the crown of the British Empire. Queen Victoria had been made Empress of India and the British had a major military presence in India. Indian nationals had no say in central government and even at a local level, their influence on policy and decision making was minimal. In 1885, educated middle class nationals had founded the Indian National Conference (INC). Their aim was to get a much greater say in the way India was governed. In response to this development, the Morley-Minto reforms were introduced in 1909. Morley was the Secretary of State for India and Lord Morley was Viceroy of India. Their reforms lead to each province in India having its own governor and Indian nationals were allowed to sit on the councils which advised these governors. After 1918, nationalism within India int ...
Unanswered questions are the remains of the day   A man was hanged who was not guilty beyond reasonable doubt. After the December 13, 2001 terrorist attack on Parliament, the government said it was an attack on India’s sovereignty, and those involved would be shown no mercy. On December 16 — barely three days after the attack — the police presented Mohammed Afzal, his cousin Shaukat Hussain, and S.A.R. Geelani to the media along with a stunningly detailed brief that was in sum the prosecution’s case. Within six months, Mohammed Afzal and the others, including Shaukat’s pregnant wife Afsan, went on trial on charges of conspiracy to commit acts of terror and waging war against the state. Anyone conversant with how this case was prosecuted will admit that where Mohammed Afzal was concerned there was a presumption of guilt. He had nothing that amounted to legal representation. The lawyer first appointed to represent him admitted as evidence — without consulting him — documents that w ...

The Indians are seeing the world what there media shows them.Their mindset receives the noisy sound waves emanating from the loud and harsh mouth of media jugglers like Arnab Goswami. Check facts. What Indian media is portraying is far from the reality. May be you don't know, let me given an example of DU University Lecturer SAR Geelani. When he was arrested for his "involvement" in attack on Indian Parliament, Indian media meticulously telecasted 1 hour programmed on his activities like how he planned everything, etc. but later on it turned out to be farce. There are hundreds of such concoct stories with deceitful intent. Exactly where the Media and Govt. is taking them they don't Know... The Indian Constitution have hanged a person without giving him a Trial.. even he was not allowed to get an legal advocate for defense .Not allowed to meet family at the end... Great India, Great Democracy, And Great People. And World is silently watching. Kashmiris are already hurt and this has added salt to wounds.
Dramatic action by UPA for the upcoming elections: Ajmal Kasab attacked Mumbai in 2008 & has been hanged after 4 years of his arrest even though he was caught red handed. Afzal Guru attacked Indian Parliament in 2001 & has been hanged after 12 year of his arrest despite having evidence & also sentenced by the court. Owaisi has been booked for his hate speech. Will the govt act against Yasin Malik? Again it is misleading the public. Feeling the heat of 2014 parliament elections & upcoming assembly elections of Karnataka, 3 north eastern states & Delhi the govt has taken this decision. Justice will be delayed & justice will be delivered whenever required as per the political situation, wah wah!
Omar speaking separatist language: BJP The BJP on Monday charged Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah with “speaking the language of separatists” Referring to his interview to CNN-IBN, party spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said some of the statements made by the Chief Minister were provocative. Asked whether the government should have ensured that the family of Afzal Guru was informed ahead of his execution and facilitated a meeting, Mr. Javadekar said he was picking only “serious issues.” “We deeply condemn his interview” because it struck a chord with the terrorist “who attacked Indian Parliament and the idea of India,” and was condemned to death eight years ago, “So, to raise the issue of discrimination or [make] some other references is nothing but provoking the situation in the Valley. At least the Chief Minister should not do this,” the BJP leader said. Mr. Javadekar wanted the Congress to spell out its position on Mr. Abdullah’s interview as his National Conference is ...

The attack over the Indian Parliament by five Pakistan trained Jehadis occurred on December 13th 2001, in which seven staff members were killed, and eighteen were seriously injured. Chargesheet by the Dehli Police against the accused got placed before the Sessions Court on May 14th, 2002, in a record period of five months, and the Judgement in the trial came in another six months. Supreme Court extended the punishment of Afzal to "Two Death Sentences" and "Three life sentences". The mercy petition first came to President Kalam, from whose office no decision came. Even after being accused of maintaining a soft stand over a terrorist's fate, he kept a dignified calm, and only after stepping down, he revealed that the Home Minister's office (Shivaraj Patil) never replied to his file which was sent to it for their opinion. Pratibha Patil, the shame on Humanity burden on earth never took a decision herself (She could have forced the Home Ministry under Patil and later P Chidambaram to act fast, but chose not t ...

THE PULPIT There are several marked areas of the world that are extremely dangerous in terms of security and peace. It is but obvious that the war zones of the world come to our minds when thinking of most attacked places on earth. However, I would here dare to state that the most vulnerable place in the world is not the war zone where some dreaded terrorists have their hide-outs. It is not the western border of Pakistan neighbouring the Taliban dominated Afghanistan. Neither is it the North-west frontier of the north-western territory that marks off India from Pakistan. It is not the Siachen glacier that borders off the north-eastern Himalayan territory of India from China. It is not the White House, Pentagon, Kremlin, the Mosque of Omar, the walled city of Jerusalem or the Indian Parliament. It is not the state of Israel under constant terrorist assault of the Hamas, Hezbollah or the Palestinian Liberation Organisation in the neighbouring Arab World. Neither is it the vault in the Swiss Bank or the larg ...

R&AW Location: India India's external intelligence agency, Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) was created in 1968 as a response to the country's poor intelligence performance in recent wars against Pakistan and China. Unlike most Western agencies, the R&AW is installed as a wing of the federal cabinet and is not answerable to the Indian Parliament in any way. Much of the R&AW's recent energies have been focused on its neighbor, Pakistan. During the Kargil War in Kashmir in 1999, the R&AW was able to unearth links between Pakistani intelligence and terrorist groups, and to infiltrate militant groups in the Kashmir Valley. Claim to fame: The R&AW had a big hand in the creation of Bangladesh in 1971. The agency helped sow discord among the disgruntled populace of Bangladesh (then called East Pakistan), which led to the creation of a guerrilla Bangladeshi army. Under its cover, R&AW operatives infiltrated into East Pakistan for covert operations, helping defeat the Pakistani army.

Mystery behind Lal Bahadur Shastri's death Shastri's sudden death immediately after signing the Tashkent Pact with Pakistan has raised many questions in the minds of Indian citizens. The Prime Minister of India going to Tashkent for a pact and never coming back has not been accepted easily by Indian citizens. His health was fit as per his personal physician Dr. R.N. Chugh and he has had no sign of heart trouble before. Shastri's sudden death has led to persistent conspiracy theories that he was poisoned.[24] The first inquiry into his death was conducted by the Raj Narain Inquiry, as it came to be known, however did not come up with any conclusions and today no record of this inquiry exists with the Indian Parliament's library.[25] It was alleged that no post-mortem was done on Shastri, but the Indian government in 2009, claimed it did have a report of a medical investigation conducted by Shastri's personal physician Dr. R.N. Chugh and some Russian doctors. Furthermore, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) r ...

A Conjecture RG as PM. Would RG as PM be more Vocal vis-a-vis MMS ??? Only I feel Sonia Ji may not find RG as responsive HMV as MMS is.A mother and son duo at the helm may soon have an ego problem and deep differences among themselves.MMS knows he is not a De Facto PM only De Jure PM. RG would not accept being only a De Jure PM. He would soon become big for his boots and try to break free of the reins. However for all this to happen, the Congress with elephant,Bicycle and a dozen other dark horses/wild horses must muster up the magical/sexy figure the 36-24-36 of the Indian Parliament i.e.272.

The 63rd anniversary of India's becoming a republic is being celebrated on Jan 26 this year. This day in 1950, Indian Parliament adopted the Indian Constitution, elevating India to thestatus of a sovereign republic. This is not just a celebration like any other celebration. This is the celebration of the vision and sacrifices made by our founding fathers, depriving themselves the luxuries of normal life so that future generations can have a good life for themselves. This is the proudest of days for an Indian, a solemn occasion, to pay tributes to those great nationalists to whom we owe ourfreedom. Having said that, let us take a short journey thru post-independent Indian political culture, particularly that of recent times, to know how unworthy wehave become to the proud legacy of our great leaders, who had spearheaded the freedom movement. Our political leadership has become so indifferent and insensitive to the needs of the Indian people that bribery and corruption are thriving in the society. Edifices ...

New Science, Technology & Innovation Policy Raghu Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh last week unveiled a new Science, Technology and Innovation Policy (henceforth STI for short) at the centenary-year Indian Science Congress in Kolkata. The STI Policy is conceived as the next important step up the ladder of S&T based development, suited to the demands and requirements of the early decades of the 21st century. STI seeks to build upon the three earlier major S&T policies namely the Scientific Policy Resolution adopted by parliament in 1958, an umbrella statement proclaiming India’s intention to promote and harness science for the nation’s development and modernisation, the Technology Policy Statement (1983) focusing on development of S&T self-reliance, and the S&T Policy of 2003 announced by the NDA government which stressed the need to integrate S&T research with socio-economic priorities and to create an innovation system. STI argues that innovation is the key to national advancement in the present era ...

Summary : Indian Penal Code 1880 defined juvenile male as male below 16 years. And IPC stated that juvenile should get less than full sentence. But IPC didnt fully codify how much less and so different judgments prevailed. In 1986, Congress MPs made Juvenile Act which said that juvenile will get less than 3 years even if he commit murder/rape etc and that too in a meticulously pre-planned way. But Congress MPs in 1986 kept same definition of juvenile male as it was in IPC --- below 16 years . But in year 2000, BJP MPs changed definition of male juvenile to boys below 18 years !!! And IMO, BJP MPs did so to raise level of love-jehad in India !!! Anyway, I request all to call the then Law Minister Arun Jetley at 011-29248212/4587 and ask him why he raised the age. Indeed why not start by arresting all the Members in the Indian Parliament with charges of rape and murder?
It's army vs the Indian Parliament again as Sachin Tendulkar takes on Services bowler in Ranji Trophy!

"...It must also be candidly admitted, though, that Pakistan has not had a monopoly of wrong-doing in this case. It was only in March that Defence Minister A.K. Antony informed Parliament of Indian protests against Pakistani construction along the Line of Control. Now, no less than India’s Chief of Army Staff Bikram Singh has confirmed reports in The Hindu that India, too, was doing exactly the same thing.."
