FINALLY the Philadelphia Flyers have decided to buy-out Ilya Bryzgalov's contract, that has to be the SMARTEST thing GM Paul Holmgren has done since bringing back Simon Gagne... hopefully now they can go make a bid for Roberto Luongo or Ryan Miller
NHL Notes and Thoughts By: Andrew Wadden The Chicago Blackhawks are once again the Stanley Cup champions, giving the Boston Bruins a taste of their own medicine after scoring twice in 17 seconds in the dying minutes, going on to win a second cup in four-years. Congratulations to the fans from the Windy-City. Now, let the fun begin! Day one of the NHL off-season got off to a roaring start with the news of the Philadelphia Flyers using its second compliance buyout to scrap Ilya Bryzgalov and his terrible contract. This is not a huge surprise. Bryzgalov’s “adventures in goaltending” were notorious since he arrived in Philly. The question now is - are the Flyers ready to hang their hat on former Calder winner/turned backup, Steve Mason? Speaking of goalies, the Toronto Maple Leafs now have two starting goalies after acquiring Jonathan Bernier from Los Angeles Kings earlier in the week. Could we see the Leafs and Flyers wheeling and dealing once again? The Leafs want a top six forward, preferably a centr ...
Breaking News: The Philadelphia Flyers will be holding open tryouts to fill their need for a goaltender for the upcoming 2013-2014 season. It is rumored that tryouts will occur at the team's practice facility in Voorhees, New Jersey during the week of September 9th at the same time as the 2013 Flyers rookie camp is set to begin. All interested person's are welcome to attend and try to make the squad. Flyers General Manager Paul Holmgren has publicly stated that the tryout camp will include basic positioning techniques and catching practice, something that now former goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov struggled with at times. Following two days of instruction, the coaching staff will place players on teams and will hold three days of scrimmages and off-ice workouts. Holmgren has decided the follow the example set other Philadelphia sports franchises to allow amateurs to tryout for the professional team. The Flyers have bought out the contract of Bryzgalov, ensuring that he will still be paid by the Flyers to play f ...
Still shocked Andrew Shaw returned last night. I will be getting a jersey... From wikipedia- "On January 5, 2012, Shaw made his NHL debut, getting into a fight on the second shift. He needed stitches, but later returned to score the first goal of his NHL career on his first shot of his first game against Ilya Bryzgalov of the Philadelphia Flyers. [2][3]" "On June 12, 2013, Shaw had the game-winning tip-in of the opening game of the 2013 Stanley Cup Finals to give the Blackhawks a 4–3 triple-overtime victory over the Boston Bruins. Shaw emulates Bruins player Brad Marchand, saying "We're both agitators. We both play physical and we're always chirping." [4] Shaw scored nine points in the playoffs and helped Chicago win the Stanley Cup." IMO, Shaw deserved the Conn Smythe award more than Kane. Crawford should've won it, but oh well; always hard to pick MVP's on great teams! DA HAWKS!

At what point does a Philadelphia Flyers fan realize they are just embarrassing themselves?
Image of the Day Light the Lamp Every time the two teams for the Keystone State meet there is plenty of fireworks as both the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers are among the top scoring teams in the NHL. On Thursday in Philadelphia it was no different as the Flyers jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first period, chasing Penguins Goalie Marc-Andre Fleury. Flyers Goalie Ilya Bryzgalov would not last much longer, allowing three goals in the second period before he was replaced by Brian Boucher. Meanwhile Tomas Vokoun who took over in goal for the Penguins stopped all 14 shots he faces, as the Chris Kunitz who had two goals and an assist beat Boucher in the third period as the Penguins won the game 5-4. With the win the Penguins improved to 16-8-0, while the Flyers continued to flounder in last place in the Atlantic Division with a record of 11-13-1, as they have won of the worst defenses in the NHL, allowing 3.0 goals per game.

Ever since HBO's 24/7, Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov made it quite clear that he's interested in space. While he was playing in Russia, he took it one step further by visiting a cosmonaut
Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov is a man who loves space, in case you haven't gotten that message already. He thinks about the universe, he dressed up as a cosmonaut and he ponders meteors that come crashing down in his home country. The man loves out space. He loves it so much that he got a new mask that features ... Star Wars.
So we are about midway throughout the NHL season, and the Philadelphia Flyers sit at 9th in the Eastern Conference. It seems to be a blessing that they are only that far out of the playoffs, because they have looked really bad at times, not being able to finish games. The biggest surprise is that the offense is most to blame for their struggles, not Ilya Bryzgalov. The offense is actually ranked 8th in the league, which again is shocking considering how in some games they struggle to score even 2 goals. The huge bright spot for the Flyers has been right winger Jakub Voracek, who leads the team in points, goals, and assists. He has been extremely hot as of late, scoring 5 goals and tallying 8 assists in the last 5 games. But if we are looking ahead toward the playoffs, I have to say the Flyers need to pick it up if they're gonna make a run in the postseason, which could likely be against a or seed. And that means they're gonna have to step it up in every aspect of the game, but most importantly puttin ...

Well, It’s Good to Be Back (?) By: Alex Csedrik The New York Rangers have started the season 1-3, because they dropped games to big-time players in the league like the Boston Bruins, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Philadelphia Flyers (on sheer firepower alone—they still need a defense and a steady net presence, which, they assumed, Ilya Bryzgalov would, now hopefully for them will, provide). Now, no team likes to be on the wrong side of that record, but here the Rangers are. And it’s fine. It’s four games. In a playoff series, that would matter. In the regular season, especially in the start of a truncated one, they don’t really mean a hill of beans. However, moving forward, there is some work to be done. First, I am thoroughly convinced that John Tortorella doesn’t have a clue on how to run/fix a power play. He’s got two (TWO) snipers in Marian Gaborik and Rick Nash, a dirty-goals scorer extraordinaire in Ryan Callahan, and a capable power play quarterback in Brad Richards. They’ve had ...
Philadelphia Flyers look great on offense tonight. I don't want to jinx it--t let's not see them lose it. Both my favorite goalies are on the ice--- Ilya Bryzgalov and Henrik Lundqvist!

Philadelphia Flyers' goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov established his reputation as a comedy legend last winter on HBO, during "24/7 Rangers/Flyers." Between his soliloquies on the universe, the fetishization of his husky, and all that mediocre goaltending, his commitment to humour as … Continue reading →
Flyer fans feast your eyes on this: Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin, playing for Dynamo Moscow, has said he'll think about staying in the KHL if owners manage to drastically cut player salaries. Philadelphia Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov (CKSA Moscow) did him one better earlier last week. "I think some of the players may not return to the NHL because you have everything here and major companies are going to pay the top players here big money. And, especially for Russians players who can play at home in front of their own fans and families and (earn) even bigger money than they have in the National Hockey League," Bryzgalov said.

Revisiting the Ilya Bryzgalov Contract with the Philadelphia Flyers When the Philadelphia Flyers dumped their top-scorer and team captain in the same offseason to clear cap space for Ilya Bryzgalov, it was the biggest story of last year’s NHL offseason. The sun is shinning, sky is blue, the feeling of spring is once again here and Flyers hockey is back! After having a week off between playoff series the Flyers are back in the Semifinals for a third straight year. It's the Turnpike Series: Philadelphia Flyers vs New Jersey Devils. GAME 1 at 3 on NBC10. Flyers and Devils were 3-3 against each other this season. Ilya Bryzgalov was sensational in 3 of those starts going 3-0 with a 0.29 GAA, .987 save % and 2 shutouts. I don't think we will see any 10-3, 8-5 games in this series. I expect more of the 3-2, 3-1 variety, a bit more tighter. In any event expect the Flyers to blow right through this Devils team. The much needed rest will prove to be beneficial in the long run. Defenseman Nick Grossmann is back in the lineup. Flyers in 5!
Philadelphia Flyers netminder Ilya Bryzgalov shuts out the Devils, 3-0, for his third consecutive.

Flyers Penguins tonight, Game 5 on Csn @ 7:30. Clearly, the Flyers got their *** whipped on Wednesday, something no Flyers fan would like to revisit. After a great start in that one, the Flyers just unraveled; out of position and undisciplined play the entire game ended up costing the orange and black. Nick Grossmann will not play tonight, apparently out with a concussion. This means one thing; the guy maning the 4' by 6' hockey net for the Philadelphia Flyers will be the key cog once again. Ilya Bryzgalov has to be the Flyers best player this evening if they would like to end this series right now. This entire series has been as wacky as they come so why should tonight be any different? Still one more to go, still just one more Flyers!
