LGUs in NorMin able to manage response to Typhoon Pablo by Apipa Bagumbaran CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Dec. 14 (PIA) -- Local government units (LGUs) in Northern Mindanao are able to manage the response within their resources and capacities during typhoon Pablo, according to the results of the rapid needs assessment (RNA) conducted by the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC). Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) Regional Director and RDRRMC Chairperson Ana Cañeda said in a media forum Thursday that the assessment indicates that the response requirements are being capably provided at the LGU levels and that no gaps have been identified. Cañeda, who shared the latest report on the region’s typhoon Pablo post-disaster situation, further said that LGUs have continued to provide basic services to the affected communities. The RDRRMC-ARMM reported that the whole ARMM recorded ZERO casualty during the onslaught of typhoon Pablo. However, eight were injured in the province but were immediately treated. A total of 8,943 families or 45,481 were affected by Typhoon Pablo in the province. Of these numbers, 976 families or 5,061 individuals were in Marawi City. Typhoon Pablo damaged the following infrastructure in the province: 1 day care center slightly damaged, 3 schools, 5 bridges, 38 residential houses, 43 bancas, 256 fishing nets and 3 carabaos." The cost of damage by Typhoon Pablo were estimated at P101 M for infra, P380,000 for residential houses, and 80% of agri crops.
