Texas is popularly known as The Lone Star State. The Alamo is located in San Antonio. It is where Texas defenders fell to Mexican General Santa Anna. The King Ranch in Texas is bigger than the state of Rhode Island. More wool comes from the state of Texas than any other state in the United States. Texas is the only state to enter the United States by treaty instead of territorial annexation. The state was an independent nation from 1836 to 1845. Texas boasts the nation's largest herd of whitetail deer. The capital city of Austin is located on the Colorado River in south-central Texas. The capitol building is made from Texas pink granite. Fantasy baseball draft today at 6 PM CDT. This is a 16 team league. Very competitive. Lots of fun. We all keep 5 players from last season. Draft will go deep. Most important tool ESPN Team Depth Charts. I am very well prepared, but don't have every roster memorized. How many of you know the starting lineup of the lowly Houston Astros? Really not very fantasy relevant. Only Jose Altuve and maybe Bud Norris draftable.
When you talk about the Houston Astros, many memories come to mind...for one, their start as the Colt .45s in 1962! How many memories do people have of the Astrodome? I know that many people will remember great pitchers such as Nolan Ryan, J.R. Richard and Mike Scott...how about the Killer B's (Craig Biggio, Jeff Bagwell and Lance Berkman)? And, of course, how can we forget the only World Series appearance in franchise history in 2005 (unfortunately, the White Sox swept that Series)! More recent history is not kind to the Houston Astros...no postseason appearances since that 2005 World Series season; even more disturbing, the Astros lost 106 games in 2011 and promptly followed that with 107 losses in 2012! So, what is a team to do after such futility? Well, friends, it is a NEW day in Houston heading toward 2013...by NEW, I mean new uniforms, a new manager (Bo Porter), a new TV home (Comcast SportsNet Houston) and most importantly, a move from the National League to the American League! Yes, your Houston ...
Former Hitter's Lee and Jason invent a protective glove for your glove hand. It’s said that necessity is the mother of invention, and Major League Baseball catcher Jason Jaramillo wanted something to soften the pounding his left hand was taking. That was summer 2010, when he and his brother Lee Jaramillo — himself a former major league catcher — hatched the idea for Forceout, an inner protective glove. Forceout is now a real product, invented and developed by the Jaramillo brothers of Caledonia. They officially launched it Monday with a website that Lee Jaramillo created himself. Jason Jaramillo, now with the Houston Astros, has worn a Forceout glove all preseason. “It’s been a huge hit with the guys in the clubhouse here,” he said after Thursday’s game. Players ask him, “What is that you’re wearing?” “The feedback I’m getting is: Guys were looking for something like that.” Forceout is designed especially for catchers, whose hands take the biggest pounding. “I don’t think any ...

Maxwell's homer caps four-run frame against Tigers (Houston Astros) (Source: Houston Astros) LAKELAND, Fla. -- Rick Porcello gave the bevy of scouts at Joker Marchant Stadium something to watch and the Tigers something to build on with four scoreless innings and six strikeouts before Detroit's bullpen eventually held off a late Astros charge, in an 8-5 win on Monday. Could someone who knows baseball explain to me WHY the Houston Astros are switching to the American League? I'm not upset about it, but I'd like to know the reasoning behind the move.
Can't wait to see the Yanks blast the Houston Astros into orbit. Don't forget to take Roger Rocket , the child molester, throwing the wife under the bus cheater jerk.
Anybody who knows me very well knows I'm a tried and true, die hard Houston Astros fan. I have followed them for years, through thick and thin, for better or for worse. This year they have new uniforms, new logo, and new league (after 50 years in the National League Central, they are moving to the American League West). The biggest problem is that they also have moved their broadcasts from Fox Sports Southwest to Comcast Sportsnet. So far there have been no providers in this are who have signed up with Comcast to broadcast the games. Best I can tell it seems to be regional in the Houston area. The season starts on April 3, so there is still time to sign up, but right now it just doesn't look good. What am going to do without my 'Stros? I really am ticked off about this. I will probably go into withdrawal!
2013 is a huge year in baseball. Mariano Rivera is back. Houston Astros are playing in the Al West. What are you looking forward to most? -Brooke
OBAMA PLAYS GOLF WITH Tiger Woods... President Obama saw firsthand how golf is played at the highest level on Sunday, teeing off with Tiger Woods, the world's No. 2 golfer who is rebuilding a once-squeaky clean image tarnished by a messy 2010 divorce. Obama, an avid weekend golfer, and Woods, who won his 75th title last month, played together for the first time at the exclusive Floridian Yacht and Golf Club, which was surrounded by a cordon of security. "It's good to see you play well again," Obama told Woods, according to GolfDigest.com. Less than a month after starting his second term, Obama is on a three-day golf getaway in Florida, while his wife, Michelle, and their daughters, Malia and Sasha, are skiing in Colorado. On Saturday he received instructional tips from Woods' former swing coach, Butch Harmon. White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Obama and Woods were joined on the course by U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk and Jim Crane, the resort owner who also owns the Houston Astros baseball team. ...
Hey. Do you think Butch Harmon, the owner of the Houston Astros, and Tiger Woods aRe in the 99% that our President says he loves so much?? Hmmm. Didn't think so.. Keep hanging with your rich buddies Prez and sling your Bs when the cameras and MSNBC are up your *** Hypocritical POS
The White House says the group also included Jim Crane, the Houston businessman who owns the resort and baseball's Houston Astros, and U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk.
My Old Home Area for 10 years.Palm City, FL Tight lid on Obama's Treasure Coast trip Updated: 38 minutes ago Palm City, Fla. - President Barack Obama is keeping a tight lid on details surrounding his Treasure Coast golf getaway this weekend at the ultra-exclusive Floridian. But the murmurs from locals are getting louder, as they wonder how their weekends will change once Air Force One touches down at Palm Beach International Airport on Friday evening. White House officials have stayed mostly mum, saying only that Obama will be in Palm City Friday through Monday. Three local officials confirmed with Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers the president will head to the Floridian, where members have been told to expect delays at the gate and be prepared to show identification. No disruptions due to the trip are expected on Martin County roads or waterways, said Sheriff William D. Snyder. The ritzy club straddles the Martin-St. Lucie County line and was bought in 2010 by Houston Astros owner Jim Crane, who was gen ...
I wonder why he didn't invite Rush Limbaugh to play too. Rush lives in WPB. It's a men's weekend away for President Obama and pals in southern Florida. While first lady Michelle Obama and their two daughters take their annual ski vacation in Colorado, President Obama and friends are hitting the links at The Floridian National Golf Club in Palm City, Fla. It's a holiday weekend, with Monday being Presidents Day. Obama's playing partners on Saturday included Eric Whitaker, a long-time friend from Chicago, and Ron Kirk, the outgoing U.S. trade representative. The group also featured a trio from Houston, Texas, according to the pool report: -- Jim Crane, a Houston businessman who owns both the Houston Astros, and, since 2010, the Floridian. -- Tony Chase, a Houston lawyer and fellow Harvard Law alum who has raised campaign money for Obama. -- Milton Carroll, another Houston businessman who is chairman of CenterPoint Energy, which is described as a public utility holding company; Carroll has given money to Oba ...
It is good being President. While the wife and kids are in Aspen skiing, he is taking golf lessons from Butch Harmon while tearing up the course at the Floridian Golf Club, a private, gated golf community. He is staying with a mega campaign contributor, the owner of the club and the Houston Astros. I wish the Golf Channel could do a show on the Commander in Chief. From what I understand, he makes Charles Barkley look good.

He signed a one day contract with the Rangers on April 23, retiring as a member of the team. He threw out the ceremonial first pitch during the Rangers home game against the Yankees. Instead of throwing out the ceremonial first pitch from the mound, he went to his usual position behind the plate and threw a strike to Michael Young at second base.
Wondering how bad the Houston Astros will be in their 1st year playing in the AL. They're going to be in the AL West. Houston is going to have about a $25 million payroll. They have just 5 payers with 3 or more years of MLB experience on their 40 player spring training roster. Houston went 55-107 in the NL Central in 2012. They were 56-106 in 2011. It doesn't look likely that they'll avoid becoming the 1st team since the 1962-1965 New York Mets to lose at least 106 games in 3 straight seasons. It's going to be interesting to see what happens.

Forget what the calendar reads. Do not listen to the talking head on the boob tube who stands in front of a green screen declaring seasonal beginnings and ends. Trust me on this one as I bid to you Happy First Day of Spring. Today is the very first day of Spring. How do I know this you ask? Tony Bosque could tell you. Today we look to Florida and Arizona, in the same way we sometimes check for Groundhog Shadows to determine climate projection. Today the Pitchers and Catchers report to SPRING TRAINING. It is Baseball tradition. Today starts Spring Training and all teams are tied atop the leader board. Even Houston Astro Fans are pointing to last years Oakland A's and saying, "hey, it could happen...". The Dodgers have backed up the Brinks truck and spared no expense to finish...maybe second in their own division. The Red Sox have gone with a Manager who motivates and teaches while filling their roster with more heart and youth than Boston players have had in years. Toronto has put together the Base ...

Houston Chronicle: Bo Porter delivers first clubhouse speech to Astros
The Houston Astros can keep this in mind - They'll never be worse than the Cleveland Spiders.
Fact: I had about 20 Dennis Martinez baseball cards as a kid.
The Houston Astros are the Modern Day Cleveland Indians from the movie Major League... "This guy's dead".
Heard the Houston Astros will be so bad this year that they will change their name to the AAA-stros.

Pitchers and Catchers have reported today and the Houston Astros have already been eliminated from the playoffs.
Tony Wheeler was so proud to tell me he dreamt that he was in Houston at a Rockets game. Ironically I dreamt I was at Astros' Opening Day
New sea of blue and orange as wait to start first official workout.
Well, Houston Astros spring training started today. Looking foward to an all new season in the American League with a new manager (Bo Porter) who wants to win the World Series. This is the first season I've been interested in the Astros since they were swept in the one & only World Series they ever played in & the worst loss record in team history last year. GO 'STROS!!!
Today was the first official day of Spring Training for the Houston Astros in Kissimmee, Florida as pitchers and cathcers were the first players to report to camp. Trying to forget the 107 loss season they endured last season, they came up with the 5 P's: Proper Preparation Produces Peak Performers. With Opening Day against the Rangers a little less than 2 months away, the Opening Day starter isn't on the top of the priority list for new manager, Bo Porter. However, it will be between Lucas Harrell (11-11, 3.76 ERA) and Bud Norris (7-13, 4.65 ERA). The first spring training game is on Saturday, February 23rd at the Philadelphia Phillies at 1:05 PM ET/ 12:05 PM CT.
The San Francisco Giants announced on Thursday they would host a "Metallica Night" on May 3, as part of a game with the rival Los Angeles Dodgers. As if a Giants-Dodgers game needed another reason for fans to scream "Nothing Else Matters." Metallica will throw out the first pitch(es?) and sing the national anthem. Fans will also get a special Giants/Metallica cap. In-game entertainment will get an infusion of Metallica too. We looked around baseball and thought, "Gee, other teams should jump on this idea." Music and baseball have been friends for years, right John Fogerty? [Also: Can the Dodgers buy their way to a championship?] The nice people we are, we're offering some suggestions that MLB teams can use: • Houston Astros: Creed night. ("Because, boy, are we going to suck this year.") • New York Mets: The Who night. ("Inspired by our 2013 starting outfield.") • Oakland Athletics: Right Said Fred night. ("Because Billy Beane is too sexy for his shirt.") • Los Angeles Dodgers: Cash Money Millionai ...

Happy Birthdays - February 6th ~ William Chester Dawley (born February 6, 1958) played all or part of seven seasons in Major League Baseball, from 1983 to 1989, for the Houston Astros, Chicago White Sox, St. Louis Cardinals, Philadelphia Phillies, and Oakland Athletics. He was used exclusively as a relief pitcher during his major league career, appearing in 275 games as a reliever. Dawley was drafted out of Griswold High School in the seventh round of the 1976 Major League Baseball Draft by the Cincinnati Reds. Over the next six seasons, he worked his way up through the Reds' farm system as a starting pitcher, pitching substantially in relief. During spring training in 1983, he was traded to the Astros along with infielder Tony Walker in exchange for backup catcher Alan Knicely. Dawley made the Astros roster out of spring training as a relief pitcher. Despite having little experience out of the bullpen, Dawley got off to a great start, being chosen for and playing in the All-Star Game after going 5–2 wi ...

Cameron's newest article Battle for Silver Boot in AL West Set FEBRUARY 1, 2013 BY JKOCH LEAVE A COMMENT By Cameron Brock KTXT Sports Staff Seventeen years ago, the only way the Texas Rangers would play a meaningful game against the Houston Astros was if both teams made it to the World Series. Times have changed. Minute Maid Park will host its first ever American League game on ESPN’s annual Opening Night Baseball Game on March 31 at 7:05 p.m. Rangers’ first basemen Mitch Moreland is looking forward to making the trip down Interstate 45. “It’s good to have an in-division rival where, you know, you don’t have to travel as much and we can go down there and play a few times and vice versa.” Moreland said. “It’s going to be fun to have them in there.” Regular season interleague play started in the 1997 season. That year, the Arizona Diamondbacks and Tampa Bay Rays did not exist. The Milwaukee Brewers were an American League team. In 1998, the two expansion teams came in, and the National Lea ...

Army Reserve Maj. Adam Collett, 75th Training Command Public Affairs   HOUSTON (Jan. 23, 2013) – Troops at a military installation here received a personal visit from current and former Major League Baseball players today.   The service members were visited at Ellington Field Joint Reserve Base by personnel from the Houston Astros baseball club. The visit was held as part of the ballclub’s annual traveling community outreach program, known as Astros CAREavan.   As part of the program, players, coaching staff and others pay visits to hospitals, schools and institutions such as military bases.   Children and other family members of the troops were invited to the event, which also featured appearances by costumed characters, including the Astros’ “Orbit” mascot.  In all, more than 200 military personnel and their family members attended.   Though some troops were on full-time status, nearly all were connected to the reserve components of one of the five armed forces represented at the install ...
Our Core Values series continues apace. Up this time around? The blighted Houston Astros.
Sorry family and friends but I need to vent. As you all know I am a HUGE baseball fan. Today I was VERY dissapointed with the Brownsville Sports Park and whoever organized the Astros Baseball Camp. First, I had a hard time registering for the event because no one answered or returned my calls. When I finally did get a call back they gave me the wrong time and said just show up. (Luckly I knew better) The turn out was extremly POOR. This was a great opportunity for our kids to learn from Major League Players. One of the Astros employees who helped get the players down here is originally from Brownsville and she convinced the Astros to come down here to teach our kids but with the kind of turn out we had they will probably never be coming back. SAD The Astros had to turn back kids at other locations around the state for the same event but not in Browntown we barely had enough kids for the pictures. Thank you Houston Astros organization for taking the time to come down to Brownsville and the Rio Grand ...
AL East 1. BlueJays 2. Boston RedSox 3. New York Yankees 4. Balimore orioles 5. Tampa Bay Rays        The East could go to any of the 5 team's this year, the east will be the toughest divison in baseball. The BlueJays will have to stay healthy if they wan't to see october. The Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, and Baltimore Oriloes will be on their heel's. I expect the east division to go, to any of those four teams. AL Central 1. Detroit Tigers 2. Cleveland Indians 3. Chicago Whitesox 4. Kansas City Royals 5. Minnesota Twins      The Detroit Tigers did get swept by the San Francisco Giants last in the World Series. Their is a new Manager in town ( Francona, Indians ) he as proven himself a winner in my book. The bottom three Kansas city, Chicago,Minnesota haven't done much to impress me. AL West 1. LA Angels 2. Oakland A's 3. Texas Rangers 4. Seattle Mariners 5. Houston Astros       The Angels are my preseason pick to win the worldseries. with Josh Hamilton leaving Texas and going to the An ...

The last thing I expected to see in a dusty antiques store in Redlands, California, was former Astros pitcher Tom Griffin. Yet there he was, staring me down from across the aisle.
I like how the have a CAREavan taking all these players around. If they really cared they would strike a deal for Houston with CSN.
“the cubs will win the World Series” You spelled the Houston Astros wrong.
"The main thing that's going to the Houston Astros is the mentality," Porter says.
