The heat has subsided and the stars are out tonight in Melbourne as Third Round action continues at the Australian Open. Roger Federer, Caroline Wozniacki, Victoria Azarenka, Andy Murray, and Rafa Nadal are all in action tonight on ESPN3. Maria Sharapova will get the day started though as she heads out to Rod Laver Arena in just a few minutes. She'll have to earn her spot in the last 16 against 25th-ranked, Alizé Cornet . Watch that match here: the day's action begins at 7pmET. Here is today's complete court coverage: Hisense Arena: Court Arena: Court 2: Court 3: 6:
If you're looking forward to the tennis from Australian tonight (or today), we're hoping the heat won't cause suspension of play again today. The forecast is not vey optimistic, however. But there are some enticing prospective matches on the roofed courts, if worst comes to worst. Serena Williams leads the way on Rod Laver Arena, taking on Daniela Hantuchova. David Ferrer v. Jeremy Chardy will follow, and local player Casey Dellacqua will then play Jie Zheng. Over on Hisense Arena, American Alison Riske will try to take down the no. 9 seed Angelique Kerber. Li Na should be able to cope with Lucie Safarova, but Tomas Berdych may face a challenge from the talented Damir Dzumhur. If you're up late (or early), Ana Ivanovic is scheduled against local favorite Sam Stosur on Rod Laver Arena in the night session, followed by Novak Djokovic v. Denis Istomin, In the night session on Hisense, Tommy Robredo will play Richard Gasquet in a match that could be a long-drawn out affair between two veterans. And doubles ge ...

Wow! Incommunicado since the wifi at the Open wasn't working after we got in yesterday morning. Couldn't post any pics or updates. It was hot hot hot. Stayed until around 6. Someone gave us a free ticket to Rod Laver Arena so Ryan went in and watched some of Leyton Hewitt's match. Today we had tickets for the Hisense Arena where Hewitt and Rafter were going to play doubles, but that wasn't going to happen until after 5 and the other matches ran so long we had to leave before they even got that one started. Bummer. Really wanted to watch some of that one. So we gave our tickets to a couple who didn't have tickets for that arena. Great seats just 7 rows up from the court on the baseline. Not quite as hot a day today. Now ensconced in the Qantas Lounge again after loading up on Krispy Kremes to take home to everyone. Quite a whirlwind trip, and I'm not sure if that refers to the tennis tournament or to traveling with Ryan ! Will post pics tomorrow after getting back to Perth. And I am dying to g ...

DJOKOVIC MAKES IT 22 IN A ROW IN MELBOURNE: World No. 2 Novak Djokovic extended his Australian Open winning streak to 22 matches with a 6-3, 7-6(2), 6-1 first-round victory over Slovakia’s Lukas Lacko on Rod Laver Arena on Monday night, setting up a second-round clash against Argentinian Leonardo Mayer on Wednesday. Playing his first match of 2014, the three-time defending champion made a confident start as he raced to a 4-1 lead in the first set. But uncharacteristic errors saw Djokovic trade breaks with the 96th-ranked Slovak before serving out the set 6-3. Lacko refused to allow the favoured Serbian to dictate in the second, stepping up on the baseline to force the set to a tie-break. After tentative shots found the net, the experienced Djokovic tightened his game, pouncing on a lofting Lacko drop shot to take the tiebreak 7-2 on his first opportunity. With the rust disappearing from the Djokovic racquet, the Serbian’s all-court game was in full flight in the third set. He surged into a 3-0 lead be ...

Andy Murray v Go Soeda is fourth match on Hisense Arena on Tuesday, not before 5pm (0600 GMT)
Hisense Arena Wawrinka (Swi) beat Golubev (Kaz) 6-4 4-1 (Golubev retired) Wawrinka, who lost 12-10 in the fifth set to eventual champion Novak Djokovic in the fourth round in Melbourne last year, had no need for a marathon match on this occasion, with Golubev succumbing to a calf injury. "We never want the opponent to retire for injury, but that's what happened," Wawrinka said. "I was feeling good. I think it's one of my best starts in a Grand Slam. I was moving well, playing strong, playing OK. I made some mistakes, but for the first match it's never easy." Li (Chn) beat Konjuh (Cro) 6-2 6-0 Ivanovic (Ser) beat Bertens (Ned) 6-4 6-4 Janowicz (Pol) beat Thompson (Aus) 1-6 4-6 6-4 6-2 6-1
Tennis Australia admit temperatures could soar past 100 degrees farenheit (37.8C) at the Australian Open on day two and, because of expected low humidity, play would continue. It will affect key players across the draw on Tuesday, including Roger Federer, who is due on court in the Rod Laver Arena mid-afternoon against the young Australian James Duckworth, and Andy Murray, whose first-round match against Japan's Go Soeda is scheduled to start in the Hisense Arena not before 5pm local time, when the heat will still be strong. The defending women's champion, Victoria Azarenka, plays first on Laver, at 11am, against the Swede Johanna Larsson. Идеме против фаворити тогај :)

Defending Australian Open men's singles champion Novak Djokovic and women's world No.1 Serena Williams are the headline acts at Rod Laver Arena on the opening night session of the 2014 tournament. The order of play has been released for the first day of play at Melbourne Park, and features the night session of Djokovic versus Lukas Lacko, followed by Williams' challenge from Australian wildcard Ashleigh Barty. The day session on centre court sees two Aussies in action as German ninth seed Angelique Kerber faces local hopeful Jarmila Gajdosova, while Sam Stosur later takes stage against Czech player Klara Zakopalova. The Stosur match follows a men's first-round clash between Spain's world No.3 David Ferrer and Colombian Alejandro Gonzalez. At Hisense Arena on Monday, Stanislas Wawrinka, Li Na and Ana Ivanovic are all in action during the day session, while Australian Jordan Thompson is given a chance to shine as he meets 20th seed Jerzy Janowicz. Tennis - Australian Open Venus among early casualties in Melbourne Venus Williams suffered a disappointing loss at the Australian Open but last year’s runner up Li Na cruised through to the second round. Williams blew a 3-0 lead in the deciding set to crash out 2-6 6-4 6-4 at the hands of Russian Ekaterina Makarova. Li started the Australian Open like a woman on a mission by brutally dispatching Croatian teenager Ana Konjuh 6-2 6-0 in just over an hour. Former French Open champion Li, twice a losing finalist at Melbourne Park, simply bludgeoned her young opponent into submission with her fierce groundstrokes to lay down a marker for the other leading contenders for the women's title. The fourth seed has become a big crowd favourite in Melbourne Park after her two runs to the final and was again well supported on Hisense Arena as she rode Konjuh's early challenge before racing away with the second set. "This is my favourite grand slam, I always love playing in Melbourne," a smiling Li said before leaving ...

The Spaniard David Ferrer prevails over the young Columbian Alejandro Gonzalez in straight sets as he moves onto the next round. Up next on RLA the Aussie Sam Stosur. China's No;1 Li Na came through her first test in straight sets to move onto the 2nd round. Ana Ivanovic is up next on Hisense Arena. Later on Jerzy Janowicz (J.J.) will be playing on Hisense against a qualifier. With all his injuries throughout the end of last year and the beginning of this year, I hope he will start his 2014 season with a first round win in Melbourne. Stay tuned.
Ana Ivanovic v Kiki Bertens already underway on the Hisense Arena with Ivanovic down an early break. Preview and live stream at live-tennis.com:
Feeling an extreme disappointment to observe slower Aussie courts on its inaugural day as compare to last three years lightning fast courts on opening days. Hisense Arena seems marginal with some minor pace.Margaret Court showing slow medium impacts and Rod Laver Arena is playing like so called hard court quite slower. But all courts are having low bounce factor.
Things are underway on Day 1 of the Aussie Open with plenty of action going on around the grounds. Up first on Rod Laver Arena is Germany's Angelique Kerber up against Aussie Jarmila Gajdosova.Kerber is in control of the first set at the moment.Gajdosova is 1 of 4 Aussies playing on the three main courts today. On Hisense Arena, Swiss No.2 Stan Wawrinka is up first against Kazakhstan's Andrey Golubev... On Margaret Court Arena, Venus William is taking on Russia's Ekaterina Makarova...Venus has taken the first set with style :D It's always good seeing her play.

This wasn't a dream! 6 CURRENT NHL players including Kyle Quincey (Detroit Red Wings), Eric Condra (Ottawa Senators), Ryan Wilson, (Colorado Avalanche) and Taylor Beck (Nashville Predators). ...and I didn't even suck! Whoops) They are all here for Canada vs USA Ice Hockey tour this weekend @ Hisense Arena. And I'm going Friday night for FREE courtesy of Paul Santamaria! NO LOVE FOR TED: Victorian state schools from the heart of Melbourne, Victoria's northern borders, the central districts right across to the Gippsland region have been disrupted as more than 30,000 teachers and support staff from 300 schools show no love for Ted. The rolling 24-hour stoppage continued this morning at Hisense Arena protesting against Premier Bailleu's less than required pay rise to make them the best paid in Australia as promised. Decked in red and chanting they will march to Parliament House on Spring Street shortly.
MUSIC icons Joan Jett and the Blackhearts will tour Australia in April with retro UK rockers The Darkness. The co-headline tour will see tickets capped at $99 plus booking fee. Jett and her band, best known for the 1981 hit I Love Rock & Roll, broke a 15-year drought with a Down Under visit in 2010. That tour saw the Blackhearts headline the Falls Festivals in Victoria and Tasmania and Sunset Sounds in Brisbane. Jett won a new legion of fans when Twilight star Kristen Stewart portrayed her in The Runaways, based on the all-girl punk band she founded at age 15. The Darkness' Australian tour last year was a sellout event, a precursor to their comeback album Hot Cakes. The 2013 tour will visit Adelaide Entertainment Centre on April 2, Hisense Arena in Melbourne on April 4, Sydney's Hordern Pavilion on April 5 and Brisbane's Riverstage on April 6. Tickets on sale February 11.
