High Court dismisses suit challenging election of Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed as governor of Kwara State.
Pioneer CJ's son becomes Kwara CJ Sulaiman Kawu, son of the pioneer Chief Judge of Kwara State and one-time Justice of the Supreme Court, late Justice Saidu Kawu, has stepped into the shoes of his late father as he was sworn-in as the new Chief Judge of the state. Justice Kawu who is the most senior judge in the state High Court, took over from Justice Ayinla Bamgbola who retired last week. Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed on Tuesday swore-in the new CJ, charging him to rededicate himself to the task of lifting the state judiciary to greater heights. The swearing-in was preceded by the confirmation of the Chief Judge’s appointment by the State House of Assembly after he was screened by the legislative arm. Ahmed in his letter to the House dated December 10, 2014, said Justice Kawu had been recommended by the National Judicial Council (NJC) for the appointment. Kwara PDP Remains Indivisible- Fulani Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State yesterday insisted that the party remained one indivisible entity in the state. The state Chairman of the party, Alhaji Isola Balogun Fulani, made the clarification during an interview with journalists in Ilorin, the state capital. According to him, "Those claiming to be pro-Bamanga Tukur-led PDP challenging the primary for the selection of its candidates for the October 26 local government election are faceless." It would be recalled that some aggrieved chairmanship aspirants believed to be loyalists of Tukur on Thursday last week, filed a case at the Federal High Court in Ilorin, challenging the modus operandi for selecting/electing the chairmanship candidates at the primary. The Tug of War over the Olofa of Offa stool has shifted to the Appeal Court sitting in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital. A High Court sitting in Offa had, in July, dismissed a suit filed by Alhaji Sheu Oyeniyi, the Magaji of the Olugbense ruling house, seeking to invalidate the kingship of the current Olofa of Offa, Alhaji Mufutau Gbadamosi, the Esuwoye II of Anilelerin ruling house. In the appeal filed on December 20, counsel to the appellants/claimants, John Olusola Baiyeshea (SAN), prayed the court to set aside the judgment of the High Court, which was in favour of Oba Gbadamosi. Baiyeshea averred that “the trial judge wrongly rejected Exhibit ‘G’ in evidence”. Police Declare Senator Bukola Saraki Wanted Over $133.5 Million Bank Loan Fraud The Special Fraud Unit of the Nigerian Police Force has declared the former governor of Kwara State, Bukola Saraki, wanted over a N21 billion bank loan fraud at the defunct Intercontinental Bank of Nigeria. An SFU source told Saharareporters that an arrest warrant is in place for the immediate arrest of the senator who went into hiding after a Federal High Court in Abuja cleared the way for his arrest on Thursday.
