By CARL LISCIANDRELLO | TBO.com Published: January 18, 2013 » Comments | Post a Comment A New Port Richey police officer, currently under suspension, was arrested on drug trafficking charges Thursday following an investigation after Hydrocodone pills were found in his car during a traffic stop in Hernando County. John Nohejl, 35, a 13-year veteran, was charged on multiple drug counts by the Hernando County Sheriff's Office in conjunction with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE). Both agencies say they had received information that Nohejl was using and selling both crack cocaine and prescription pills, and the investigation led to a traffic stop Thursday night at Deltona Boulevard and Keesler Street in Spring Hill. When a Hernando County detective approached the vehicle, deputies say Nohejl refused to produce identification or exit the vehicle. Hernando County deputies say Nohejl then fled from the traffic stop and drove around the block. He was located moments later at the intersection of D ...
By Rony Marrero The Tampa Bay Times BROOKSVILLE, Fla. — The drug trafficking charge brings a bail of $171,500 instead of a requested reduction. Shackled and clad in an orange jail jumpsuit, New Port Richey police Officer Michael Nohejl shuffled into a Hernando County courtroom Thursday hoping the judge would reduce his bail. Circuit Judge Anthony Tatti did the opposite. Tatti set Nohejl's bail at $171,500, an increase of $55,000 over the amount set at his first court appearance on Jan. 18. Nohejl, 35, has been in the Hernando County Detention Center since then. Nohejl was pulled over in Spring Hill the day before and refused to provide identification or get out of his vehicle. He drove off and was stopped again a block away. Deputies found a hydrocodone tablet on the driver-side floorboard. They also found a bag of 27 hydrocodone tablets on the side of the road, where he had tossed it during the short chase, according to a news release. Nohejl was arrested. Authorities later searched his house and found ...
"Pasco County was created in 1887 from the southern part of Hernando County. It was named for Samuel Pasco, who served in the Confederate Army, the state legislature and in the United States Senate from 1887 to 1899. The earliest towns were Anclote, Blanton, Dade City, Earnestville, Fort Dade, Macon (Trilby), Lacoochee and San Antonio. Citrus was an important industry when the county was formed, although a decline followed a freeze in 1895. Several large sawmills operated in the county in the early part of the twentieth century. During the Florida land boom of the 1920s, New Port Richey became the winter home of silent screen star Thomas Meighan and golfer Gene Sarazen; Meighan attempted to bring other Hollywood figures to the city. The county has experienced significant population growth since the 1960s. The growth began along the Gulf coast but is now occurring most rapidly in areas north of Tampa. Located on the Gulf of Mexico in the Tampa Bay area, Pasco is part of a nine-county region referred to as ...
