I really want to go to the Hayden Planetarium in New York
One of my regrets while traveling to New York was not going to the Hayden Planetarium..and ohhh I was so close.
Neil Degrasse Tyson will be appearing in a Superman comic that comes out this Wednesday. He'll be pointing out exactly where Krypton is in our own universe. According to the comic, Superman visits the Hayden planetarium in New York once every 382 days in the hope of spotting a glimpse of his home planet. Tyson is kind enough to point it out, and tells us that prior to its destruction Krypton was in a system that is located 27.1 light years from Earth and is slightly smaller and cooler than the sun. It's a real system, and they are kind enough to give us the location: Star LHS 2520 J2000 Right Ascension: 12 hours 10 minutes 5.77 seconds Declination: -15 degrees 4 minutes 17.9 seconds Proper Motion: 0.76 arcseconds per year, along 172.94 degrees from due north
Happy birthday to Neil Degrasse Tyson! Tyson was born in New York on October 5, 1958 and is an astrophysicist and science communicator. He is the Director of the Hayden Planetarium and also a research associate in the department of astrophysics at the American Museum of Natural History. In a little over two months we will be headed to New York! After our regional, we will definitely take in some of the local attractions. The last couple of years we have gone to a science or technology related museum. Should we decide to do this again this year, here are just a few of the available options: American Museum of Natural History, Intrepid Sea, Air, & Space Museum, Hayden Planetarium, and National Museum of Mathematics. Does anyone have a particular interest in any of these, or have been to one before and can recommend? For those that have been to NYC before, any other cultural or educational attractions that we should try to see?
