England: Andy Sandham, 325—The England opener (left) scored Test cricket’s first triple century. It was against the West Indies in Kingston, 1930. Sandham was aged 40 at the time and the match turned out to be his last. It was England’s 180th Test match and 53 years after their first. Australia: Donald Bradman, 334—The great Sir Don was Australia’s first triple centurion, getting there in the Leeds Test of 1930. He made 304 of those in a single day, the only such achievement in Tests. It was Australia’s 183rd Test, 53 years after their first. It was also just three months after Sandham’s triple and briefly made Bradman the record holder. Pakistan: Hanif Mohammad, 337—Hanif’s innings against the West Indies in 1958 lasted 970 minutes. It’s the longest in Test history. Pakistan were following on after a deficit of 473. Hanif began batting on Day 2 (6 not out at stumps). He reached 61 on Day 3, 161 on Day 4, 270 and Day 5 and finally got out on Day 6, having saved the game. It was Pakista ...

A unique double, and an Ashes record The Dunedin Test featured a double-century in the first innings of the match, and another in the third, but no centuries at all in the second. How unusual is this? asked Thomas Baines from London It's actually very unusual, as it has never happened in 2103 previous Test matches! In Dunedin, Ross Taylor made 217 not out for New Zealand, then Darren Bravo responded with 218 as West Indies followed on: it was a maiden Test double-century for both of them. The nearest approach was in Bridgetown in 1957-58, when Everton Weekes scored 197 for West Indies, then Hanif Mohammad famously made 337 - in 970 minutes - to force a draw after Pakistan followed on. There was another near-miss in Nagpur in November 2000, when Sachin Tendulkar scored 201 not out for India and Andy Flower 232 not out as Zimbabwe saved the match in the follow-on - but there had been a century in the second innings of the match, as Grant Flower had managed 106. Has any left-armer done better in an Ashes Tes ...

"Who is the best Test opening Batsman of all time?" One PakPassion.net member writes the following: do you think is the best Test opening batsman of all time? 1.Sunil Gavaskar 2.Graeme Smith 3.Matthew Hayden 4.Virender Sehwag 5.Gordon Greenidge 6.Desmond Haynes 7.Geoffrey Boycott 8.Len Hutton 9.Jack Hobbs 10.Herbert Sutcliffe 11.Hanif Mohammad 12.Saeed Anwar 13.Alistair Cook 14.Graham *** 15.Mark Taylor SPECIAL MENTION: Barry Richards. As the title suggests that its for Test Batsman and Barry Richards didnt play many Tests, but he was very good in domestic cricket. Hence a special mention of him. These are the top 15 according to me in no particular order. But for me the best opening batsman combo would be Gavaskar and Hutton. Who would be yours?"

PAKISTAN will only have pride to play for when they meet India at Edgbaston on Saturday. The batsmen may find it difficult to play on these terms as pride in performance has been in short supply in this year`s Champions Trophy. Pakistan`s batting has been so miserable that captain Misbah-ul-Haq admitted his batsmen were a `total flop`. Pakistan may beat India, as improbable as that sounds, but the result is irrelevant since the abilities of Pakistan`s batsmen have become an international laughing stock. A country that produced Hanif Mohammad, Zaheer Abbas, Javed Miandad, Majid Khan, Saeed Anwar, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Yousuf and Younis Khan is left in the unreliable hands and unmoving feet of Imran Farhat, Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik. Are these players really the best that Pakistan, a nation of 180 million and rising, can present to the world? A brain as intelligent as Albert Einstein`s was not required to predict the failure of these men on this tour. They are serial flop-artists, flat-track bulli ...
Waqar Hasan 'Pakistan's first tour of India was my most memorable' Waqar Hasan, who loved to bat in a crisis, remembers his many milestones while playing for Pakistan during their early days of Test cricket When Pakistan lost their first Test by an innings, the boys were very demoralised. But our captain, AH Kardar, motivated us well. When the team reached Lucknow for the second Test, Kardar said, "We are playing at Lucknow. Luck will change now." And it did! If the scoreboard showed 250 for 2 I couldn't bat with full concentration. On the other hand, I applied myself well when it was 30 for 3. In my days, club matches in Lahore were mostly restricted to 50 overs. After getting to his half-century a player retired to give others a chance. Maybe that's why I didn't convert many fifties into centuries. Though my second-innings partnership of 165 with Hanif Mohammad couldn't save the Bombay Test of 1952-53, the Indian media appreciated our efforts and highlighted the fact that I was only 20 and Hanif 18. I l ...
MS Dhoni becomes only the 3rd captain in history to score a double-century at No. 6 after Bradman vs England 1946 and Hanif Mohammad vs New Zealand 1965.
This day that year: Jan 23rd Hanif Mohammad, the legendary Pakistani, batted for as much as 970 minutes to save Pakistan's first Test against West Indies. It's still the longest innings in a Test Match! The entertaining Chris Cairns scored his first century against Zimbabwe in Auckland, his innings included ten fours and nine sixes. Check out this belligerent innings by the New Zealander!

Wish u happy birthday !!!Wish U Happy birthday!!! The Wall Rahul Dravid is born, and Hanif Mohammad falls one short of 500 Jan 11th 1973 When Sourav Ganguly made a hundred in his first Test innings, at Lord's in 1996, Rahul Dravid, who was born today, made 95 - nearly the first instance of two new caps scoring hundreds in the same innings. Both shared a record one-day stand of 318 against Sri Lanka at Taunton in the 1999 World Cup. In 2002, Dravid made four consecutive Test hundreds, including a masterful 148 in dreadful conditions at Headingley to set India up for a rare overseas victory. That was followed by his awesome display on the tour to Australia in 2003-04: in the second Test, he batted a phenomenal 835 minutes, scoring 233 and an unbeaten 72, and steered India to a famous win. He went on to feature famously in overseas wins in Pakistan and the West Indies, and captained India to their first win in South Africa and first series win in England for 22 years. He resigned the captaincy soon after tha ...

501 not out A first-class first 06-06-1994 On the 50th anniversary of the D-Day landings, Brian Lara achieved immortality with the highest score in first-class cricket history: 501 not out. As if his Test-record 375 wasn't enough, Lara took the first-class record within two months when he surpassed Hanif Mohammad's 499, while playing for Warwickshire against Durham at Edgbaston. He had a few near-misses - Lara was bowled off a no-ball on 12 and then was dropped by wicketkeeper Chris Scott on 18 (Scott apparently said: "Oh dear, he'll probably go on and get a hundred"). Technically there was only one ball left when he creamed John Morris through the covers for four to bring up the magic 500. In all Lara faced only 427 deliveries, and hammered 62 fours and 10 sixes. On the final day he whacked 174 runs before lunch. For good measure, he also became the first man to make seven hundreds in eight first-class innings, the first of which was the 375. He lost his Test record briefly to Matthew Hayden in 2003, but ...
