Hancock County & Hurricane Isaac

Hancock County is the name of ten counties in the United States. All are named for John Hancock who was a leader in the American Revolution. Hurricane Isaac was a strong and large Cape Verde-type hurricane that lasted through late September and early October 2000. The thirteenth tropical cyclone, ninth named storm, and the fifth hurricane of 2000 Atlantic hurricane season, Isaac developed from a tropical wave south of Cape Verde on September 21. The depression intensified, and on the following day, it was upgraded to Tropical Storm Isaac. 2.7/5

Not that I care about fame or a photo op but the ARRL could have at least mentioned WQRZ as being one of the assets in Hancock County. Hurricane Isaac Prompts Disaster Response Seven years to the day that Hurricane Katrina smashed into New Orleans, Hurricane Isaac came calling. But instead of making landfall right at New Orleans like Katrina (a Category 3 storm) did on August 28, 2005, Isaac veered slightly to the west of the city. Through it all, hams at WX4NHC -- the Amateur Radio station at the National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami, Florida -- and those supporting the Hurricane Watch Net (HWN) and the VoIP Hurricane Net, along with various nets within the ARRL's Delta Division, relayed reports to their served agencies on Isaac's progress and the damage the storm created in its wake. More here. -- ARRL HQ The VoIP Hurricane Net running on the *WX_TALK* EchoLink conference node 7203/IRLP 9219 was active over a two day period from Tuesday, August 28, through Wednesday, August 29, as Hurricane Isaac pou ...
The Board of Supervisors hosted a meeting today with Governor Phil Bryant, MEMA Director Robert Latham, Mayor Robbie Maxwell (Pascagoula), and Mayor Moran (Ocean Springs). The meeting was held to discuss Hurricane Isaac's aftermath and where the cities and counties currently stand with their damage assessment. During this meeting I brought up the issue of the current lawsuit affecting East and Front Beach in Ocean Springs, and possibly beaches in Hancock County and Pascagoula. I explained in detail to the Governor and Mr Latham the situation that the county and cities face in regard to cleanup and potential restoration of the beaches. The Governor stated that he would assist in any way possible. He stated that he may be able to speak to Supreme Court Justice Waller to persuade the Supreme Court to expedite a decision on this case because of the public impact we are now facing. Mayor Moran has made a statement that the city or county may clean up the beaches by securing a right of entry from all the ...
