Another sad call tonight that I could not do a thing to help. There is no place in Hancock County for a woman and a 10 month old baby to go for help. It was a case of domestic abuse by her mother. Abuse is abuse. Saying a prayer that the Gulf Coast Center for Non-Violence can help her. There was nothing more I could do.

The Mississippi Gulf Coast YMCA Adolescent Opportunity Program (AOP) would like to congratulation the youth who has successful completed this program in October. A special thank you to the staff Counselors, Case Managers, and Assistants in George County (Lucedale), Harrison County (D’Iberville), and Hancock County (Bay St. Louis). Adolescents heading down a path of juvenile delinquency on the MS Gulf Coast have access to the road back to healthy and successful lives through the YMCA. The AOP program is funded through a grant from the Mississippi Department of Human Services under the Division of Youth Services. The AOP program provides a highly structured, intensive, community-based correctional program for adolescent offenders and their families, combining case management, daily supervision, psychotherapy and art therapy, academic assistance, recreation, and parent services.

A friend said that it's expected landfall is on the 7th anniversary of Katrina. In the Bible, 7 is the number of completion. Interesting. On Aug. 28, 2005, Hancock County took the eye and we all know how that turned out. I hear people around me who had a bad time of it in Katrina taking a relaxed view of what is enfolding. I wonder and wait to see what God is going to do. Have we learned our lessons? Who but God can speak to the wind and cause it to die or to swell, to move or to shift? At age 5, Hurricane Betsy all but destroyed the neighborhood I lived in. In the 60's, Hurricane Camille devastated the MS Gulf Coast. Hurricane Ivan blew dead bodies up into tree tops in Perdido Key where my sister lives. Hurricane Katrina changed everything I knew about life and today I still have no routine ...
