You know it's a good birthday dinner when it ends with a singing of the hallelujah chorus as Camilla Chicken (Gonzo's girlfriend for the uninitiated). Love ya, Ma.

I just noticed that you can sing along to the Hallelujah Chorus and it fits perfectly! Score!
Things learned at tonight's choir practice: 1) they ruined the Mass of Light Gloria when they revised it for the Roman Missal changes. Went from being my favorite Gloria to just awful. 2) "edification of the soul" sounds like a great name for a band 3) one of our songs for the Easter Vigil sounds like an intro for "Hava Nigila" (apologies for any misspelling) 4) Hallelujah chorus is still awesome :)
We have 20 people out for choir tonight including 7 men. We are singing Hallelujah chorus for Easter
*Angel choirs from above sing the hallelujah chorus as rainbows and fairy dust spring from the heavens*

Every black church song list for holy week ...EVERY... YEAR.Hosanna by Kirk Franklin. The blood will never lose its power by James Fortune & Fiya. Hallelujah Chorus by Quincy Jones. This year will highlight new songs such as "Take Me To The King" by Tamela Mann... And the newest addition, "We Give You Glory" by James Fortune feat. Tasha Cobbs.. lol
Did you know "Messiah" was actually written for Easter, not Christmas? But the singalongs are almost always in connection with the latter. Here's a chance to try to hit the "Hallelujah Chorus" high notes in connection with the intended season.

Brass rehearsal is on for tonight, Thurs., 10 APR, 7:30 p.m. as we work on music for Easter Sunday and for 4 MAY 14. Remember also that we are scheduled for rehearsal this Saturday, 12 APR, from 9 – 10:00 a.m. Note also that, because we can’t have brass rehearsal next Thursday, 17 APR because of Maundy Thursday, we will rehearse on Wed., 16 APR, 7:30 p.m. with the Chancel Choir. We’ll can set up in the sanctuary and will rehearse: • Hallelujah from Mount of Olives • Hallelujah Chorus (I was wrong last week, we are doing this version as well) • Jesus Christ is Risen today (otherwise known as Christ the Lord Is Risen Today, with choir, bells) • Hymn - Christ is Alive • Hymn - Easter People Raise Your Voices We will not be able to rehearse on Sat., 19 APR because of the 24-hour Easter prayer vigil, so each of our practices over the next few weeks is very important. Please do your best to make all of them. Thanks. See you tonight!
Ever thought of "making a joyful noise to the Lord," I mean besides the hallelujah chorus when things go our way? Tonight would be a great night to start. Choir practice. 7:00pm. Fellowship Hall. Fun, frivolity, AND faith!
Random Hallelujah The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation is a national establishment dedicated to artistic excellence, funding local arts projects that engage communities in collective cultural experiences. With the assistance of the ever- and omni- potent YouTube, they put themselves on the map in recent years with an initiative they called “Random Acts of Culture.” Call it a cultural experiment in the transformational power of the arts, Mozart in the mall, tango in the airport terminal, or Puccini at the farmers’ market—the result was art in unusual places, wide-eyed children and startled shoppers, culture interrupted by culture. The idea was simple. Gather a group of talented artists in a particular city—a string quartet from the Charlotte Symphony, the Opera Company of Philadelphia, or two very gifted dancers—and set them loose from the concert halls to stage a performance in the street. Or, as it were, in the shoe department. Shoppers at a very crowded shoe sale in Miami were startled ...

Jimmy's Renderings 4-13-14 A long-time friend used a phrase that keeps coming to mind: making memories for his customers. This clearly dealt with ensuring that the customer felt connected to the business and absolutely knew they had more than just a business relationship. The customers were to enjoy experiencing the fellowship and had the knowledge that the employee handling their business knew about them as persons and cared about them. What a neat idea. This is why I use the word "family" when I talk about First Baptist Church. We are truly family. I enjoy hearing the stories so many of you tell of how church has been an integral part of your life memories. Some have funny stories; others make confessions of things they did while sitting in a pew; some speak of the spiritual lessons they learned and continue to use; some speak of how they met their life-mates at church (I am one of those); and still others share poignant memories. Right smack in the middle of the memories are Jesus and His Church Fa ...
Let it be known that Elizabeth McCarty is my hero this morning along with several other mornings. When she texts me "Starbucks or Sonic" before an 8 am meeting...it's equivalent to 1000 angels singing a hallelujah chorus. Lol THANK YOU FOR BEING AWESOME.
For years, I let rejection (and the fear of it) reduce me into rubble, crumbling any determination I would build into so much detritus. Today I was rejected from a workshop I applied to and I can feel that familiar hurt folding me into someone a little less bold. But not again. A wrecking ball only destroys if you place yourself in front of it, if you stand still while the specter of pain becomes too bulbous to avoid and you are overcome. But, hat tip to Miley Cyrus, if you ride that broad, swing on the momentum of having believed in something you desired, even after losing it, and let that energy push you to the next project? There are only so many Nos you can hear before that yes comes along like a hallelujah chorus. Here is to my next yes. Let's ride.
But when they got back together after being apart for so long, I like sang the Hallelujah chorus so many times!

SP ALUMNI INVITED TO BE PART OF A FLASH MOB 13th April, rehearsal on 8th Dear Singers, A few days ago, Carolyn Lowry sent me an email with the following request: Guy Cooper (Wayside Community Relations) rang me yesterday to ask if I could help facilitate a Flash Mob to sing the Hallelujah Chorus for the Wayside Chapel on Sunday 13th April at 12 noon. The Flash Mob would be part of well-publicised celebrations to commemorate Wayside's 50th Anniversary supporting underprivileged folk and those struggling with addiction. Last year Peter and I attended the Opening of Wayside's new building and were impressed by the media coverage and the calibre of the invited guests including The Governor, local member Malcolm Turnbull, Federal member Tanya Plebersek, the Lord Mayor Clover Moore, media personalities and generous benefactors. Wayside has been supported by a number of well-known performing artists over the years including Teddy Tahu Rhodes and violinist Aubrey Murphy. I also noticed Simon Kenway was there at t ...
On Sunday, December 22, 2013, at 6 pm PST (7 pm MST), Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California, presented its 35th annual Christmas Concert, which was Live Streamed. John MacArthur is the Pastor-Teacher of this church and one of my favorite pastors. As a born again, Bible believing Christian, and a musician, I was thrilled and moved to the very core of my soul with the music...all of it: Orchestra, Worship Choir, Handbell Choir, Children's Choir, Joyous Sound, and the Soloists including Christopher Parkening (classical guitarist). Blessedly it will be on Live Streamed Replay throughout Wednesday, December 25th. You have only to log onto the website by clicking on the link below. Plug in some good speakers, turn up the sound, and fill your computer screen with the video. It is a great way to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. About two hours long, including a short, sharply perceptive message from John MacArthur, just before the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's Messiah. ...

A great weekend of music at Wooddale Church! The annual Christmas at Wooddale concert presented identical concerts on Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoon. The worship center was mostly full for all performances and the audiences really enjoyed the music. The Wooddale Traditional Choir was joined by guest choir, Twin Cities Master's Chorale, and supported by an almost 40 piece professional quality orchestra. Guest vocalist was Robert Robbinson who stopped the program by singing the lead on a medley of Amen and Go Tell It on the Mountain. Guest organist was Paul Jacobs, chair of the organ department at Julliard School of Music. He performed brilliantly as a soloist, and joined Wooddale organist Woody Johnson to accompany the choir and orchestra on the Hallelujah Chorus, using both organ consoles. New this year was a brief devotional by Dale Hummel, Sr. pastor, who also expressed thanks and support for Dave Hoel, the director and "creative genious" behind this annual presentation. I'm pretty good at needlework and kind of good with stained glass. 6. I can play the Hallelujah Chorus (Handel not Cohen) on piano and organ. 7. I make killer guacamole.

Tonight my I pad switched to an unlikely selection; the Messiah by Handel. Any other night, I would have looked over this particular shuffle, but tonight it struck something in me. A song usually reserved for emotions only parallel to Christmas, suddenly meant so much more. Since I can remember, I have heard this glorious 2 and half hour symphony at every midnight service on Christmas Eve & the Bass Hall. Not until Carriage Hall in New York City, when I was asked to stand and honor my grandmother and mother Sally Vandermolen & Robyn Dellamura as they sang the Hallelujah Chorus do I remember the immense emotions and tears I felt while watching them sing, "Where are the refreshments?" suddenly turned into a paralyze of intense belief. (Keeping in mind I was all of 10 years old) I'll hear that same song for years more to come, accept it won't have the same paralyzing, hair raising, effect on me that it had tonight. Having a strong enough faith to trust him in good times will always be easy, but having an ev ...

Oooo I remember singing hallelujah in chorus senior year
This past Sunday, we began a new study called "The Messiah." Our initial message dealt with the question, "Who is Jesus?" We started with Peter's confession. When asked this same thing by Jesus, he said, "Thou art the Christ the Son of the living God (Matthew 16:16)." This is the Rock. It is the foundation for all that we believe. To be truly born again, we must believe this in our heart and confess it with our mouth (Romans !0:9-10). Before we can sincerely believe it, we must know what it means. There are two thoughts here. First, Jesus is the Christ. Christ is the Greek equivalent of Messiah. Jesus is the promised Messiah of the Old Testament, with all that means. Second, Jesus is the Son of God. In other words, He is divine in nature. He is not just man but God/man. This concept as the first is revealed in the Old Testament. Jesus is this person, because He fulfilled the Old Testament law and prophets. The ceremonial law is about various types and patterns that point to the work of the ...

Day 9: I'm thankful for music. Whether it's a simple song like "Jesus Loves Me" or a more detailed song like "The Hallelujah Chorus" it's always been able to calm me, inspire me, and cheer me up. And now it does the same for my boys! Day 10: I'm thankful God gave me a good singing voice so I can prettily sing to my boys!
On the tenth day of November I'm thankful for George Frideric Handel. His 'Messiah' still blesses my home in the beginning of each Christmas season and lasts until the new year rings in. The Hallelujah Chorus echoes off of my walls every day while I anticipate and enjoy this wonderful time of year. Since 1742 that song has stirred souls to look to the heavens. I hope to leave a drop of that wonderment behind when I leave this beautiful earth.
Just rehearsed Christmas songs for 2 hours with 100 singers culminating in Handel's Hallelujah Chorus. It was amazing. Can't wait for our Free Christmas Concert on December 15th.
Great primary program at church today-the kids did so well! choir practice was awesome-we practiced the hallelujah chorus and sang one of my very favorites Oh Holy Night. It is going to be so pretty at our concert in December! Great way to spend Sunday!
Experimenting with a new Piccolo trumpet mouthpiece. I play on fairly small equipment, so it is about the diameter of a Pierobon Lead 2, but with a lateral dip of 35/1000 and a deeper, V shaped cup. Just in time for the Hallelujah Chorus.
I'm sitting near the fire, with my Thanksgiving mug of spearmint tea and my Bible Study of the book of Esther where God is not mentioned directly, but His providence and promise is all through the story. My need for music in the background and 100.5's pre-season Christmas playlist just gave me 'Mary, Did You Know?' & 'Hallelujah Chorus'. Yep, quite a Promise!
Awkward moment in singing tree practice tonight. I was singing the alto part of the Hallelujah Chorus very nicely. Only problem is - I'm a soprano.󾌯 Guess I'd better brush up on that one! 󾠔
Honoring James A. Major. A great mentor, friend, teacher who introduced me to music., Helped get me into NCCU and the Touring Choir there, wrote my letter of application to Kappa Alpha Psi, Inc., visited me on line and helped me, taught me to play piano, and in my past mess, didn't judge me but always had encouragement. remember he and my dad in the Fellows Club, his repeating of lazy sopranos and dumb altos, Adeste Fideles, somebody's hair always catching on fire, Hallelujah Chorus. Rest in Peace my frat.Phi Nu Pi to you.. If you sung in his choir write a comment or memory.
Would anyone like to come a see Stow Chorale (my choir) sing quite a lot of Handell's Messiah at the John Peel Centre next Saturday, 16th Nov at 7.30. (There's a bar!) We might be quite good!! I think you can sing along if you like, specially the Hallelujah chorus. Let me know - I'll get you a ticket. I think its about £10. Thanks!
The good folks at Wilson High School had a tenuous grasp on the notion of separation of church and state back in my day and so the high school chorus sang Vivaldi's Gloria and The Messiah (by memory). Even though I'm hardly a person of faith, I still love those works. Every year, I look for Singalong Messiah events I can participate in because there is nothing like singing the Hallelujah Chorus as part of a large choir. This year's Sing Messiah! event in Berks is coming two weeks early. I'm telling you, if you've never done it, head to Lincoln Park next Sunday and give it a try! According to the poster, it will be the current conductor's last performance. I sure hope that doesn't mean that it's the last singalong! For some reason, the link to the poster can't be shared. Can't even copy and paste text from the poster, so search Sing Messiah Lincoln Park and you'll get right to the link.
At last, American Literature online is finished on the exact due date. I think I can hear the angels singing the Hallelujah Chorus.
Today, a little heresy for the Rev. Vladimir Putin….In his op-ed piece in the New York Times, Russian President Vladimir Putin donned some highly unlikely pastoral robes to preach to America about its sin of exceptionalism. The pastor of the Great Church of the Holy Imposter declared that all nations are different, “but when we ask for the Lord’s blessings, we must not forget that God created us equal.” Well, I’m afraid I can’t sing the Hallelujah Chorus to the idea that all nations are the same. I don’t believe that nations that murder their own citizens, whether with gas, bullets or bombs, or those that call for the annihilation of all Jews or Christians, often in God’s name, are equal to those that at least attempt to function as a nation of laws. Forgive me, Rev. Putin, but I’ll keep believing America is an exceptional country, and refuse to believe that it’s dangerous to believe that. I think we’ve just learned that the danger comes when we stop believing that we’re exceptio . ...

Sagrada Familia: Gaudí's cathedral is nearly done, but would he have liked it? The 130-year labour of love that is Barcelona's Sagrada Família could soon be at an end. But, as debate rages on as to Gaudí's intentions, can it ever truly reflect his vision? Rowan Moore, The Guardian The first question, on entering the completed interior of the church of Sagrada Família, is: "Is it really there?" We have been so long accustomed to the idea that Barcelona's most famous landmark is a permanent ruin, unfinished and unfinishable, that it comes as a shock to find it is now keeping out the weather, for the first time in its 130 years of making. I sometimes wonder why I become emotional when I see, hear, or think of a certain thing. I’m often caught off guard when tears well up in my eyes due to some seemingly benign event. I find myself wondering “where did that come from?”  I 'tear up' every time I hear Handel’s 'Hallelujah Chorus" or Josh Groban's "You Raise me Up" or, when I see an unselfish act of love.   Music can really play our heartstrings. Now if God desires to communicate with us, and I believe that He does, surely He must speak to us in more ways than using what we what we call language, Earths languages, especially the English language. Mere words could never.    Just imagine for a moment how hard it might be for God to try and reveal the awesomeness of His nature by using syntax, letters, commas, periods, , and metaphors alone. Every once in a while I get an ethereal whisper, a proverbial peek behind the curtain. The mirror resolution becomes a bit clearer, and I sense what could be the voice of God.  Ofte ...
Ethan was singing the only line that he knows from the "Hallelujah Chorus"."Hallelujah" (5 times)...So I inserted the next lyric in a deep bass voice..."For the Lord God Omnipotent reigneth"...to which he added in his best Thorin Oakenshield..."Far over the Misty Mountains cold, To dungeons deep and caverns old..." Music for Lent at St. John's in February and March 2013: Our choral music for Lent at the 10:45 am services will include anthems by the time-honored composers (J. S. Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Anton Bruckner), three works by great British composers (John Ireland, Herbert Howells, and John Stainer), two inspiring hymn settings (Mark Hayes and Gilbert Martin), two additional settings of scripture (by, hmmm, a Bass and some Muskrats), and settings of original texts by other living composers (Pepper Choplin and Craig Courtney). Our major work for the season will be Beethoven's "Christ on the Mount of Olives" on March 17. This rarely-heard oratorio begins with Jesus praying alone in the garden and concludes with anticipating the Resurrection with another beloved and rousing Hallelujah Chorus. Tenor Casey Finnigan will sing Jesus, soprano Angela Gribble will sing the Seraph, and baritone Will Perry will sing Peter, with the choir portraying disciples, Roman soldiers, and the heaven ...
I walked into the kitchen yesterday and there it was--a cupcake in all its buttercream frosting glory! I KNOW it was emitting magnetic waves that beckoned me closer. . .closer. . . closer. Shucks, I might have even heard a few faint strains of the angels singing the Hallelujah Chorus. You have to understand that cupcakes are my weakness. (I've told my husband that when I die I want to be buried in a vat of buttercream frosting. LOL. ) I try not to keep cupcakes in the house because I know I can't resist them. This one was left over from my daughter-in-law's birthday dinner at our house on Saturday night. It tempted me all day yesterday. So I decided to act like a grown-up and do the rational thing: I ate it so it wouldn't tempt me today! Whew, problem solved.
Had my ipod on shuffle and just listened to the Hallelujah Chorus. I wonder how Handel felt when he wrote that piece. Surely he must have been filled with rapture divine! What an amazing song!
Well Daniel, I'm looking forward to reading either your conversion testimony or how you, as a practicing member of the "Hallelujah Chorus," deceived all your friends on "The American Atheist" ... or is this step just another twist in the saga of Daniel Rea, teacher, Reverend, Doctor and storyteller. It should be an interesting read.
It's the Third Day of Christmas..."three ducks a swimming"- well, not actually swimming - more like cross country skiing in the snow or maybe they were having a skating party on top of the ice covered pond. It's hard to tell sometimes just what they are up too. The ducks names are: Daffy, Jemimah, and Shue. Shue is the male. The best thing about ducks is that they think everything is funny. It is like one of them just told a great joke and they all start in with a quack-laugh. "Qwwaaak, qwak, qwak, qwaaak!" The three of them start in all together especially when they hear a loud sound or if all the other animals start in making noise. It's much like an unusual rendition of the Hallelujah Chorus by the "Farm Yard Pipps"! It is truly something that should be experienced in the live farmyard setting. They mostly travel single file along the paths that they have made all around the farm - Shue is usually at the head. They move from one animal feed station to the next as a "hoover" clean up crew makin ...

"Christmas Greeting" from ELHS chairman Steph Rodmyre - a long time Evergreen dedicated servant and advocate: Arguably one of the greatest compositions ever, Handel’s oratorio called Messiah keeps running through my mind as I consider the truly wonderful events of the past few hours. The words “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem!” and the famous Hallelujah Chorus certainly speak to us of the wonder of a Savior whose birth we celebrate at this time of year. Hey do you remember the question Mr. Mark asked about the Hallelujah Chorus?. Here's the answer: There are many theories about why we stand during the Hallelujah Chorus one of which it is said that during a performance on March 23, 1743, King George II was attending the performance. When the Hallelujah Chorus began King George rose and when the king stands everyone stands. It is unclear why he stood up, he may have been stretching his legs, or it might have been possible that King George, who was partially deaf, mistook the opening notes for the national anthem, or he just might have risen to his feet out of respect. There is even a note that the king never attended or even heard the Messiah. I tend to think that No one really knows why but we do know that people around the world still rise to their feet whenever they hear the first note of the Hallelujah Chorus.

His Names Exposure: Read the passages about Jesus' first coming and His second coming. Listen to the "Hallelujah Chorus" or "For Unto Us a Child Is Born" from Handel's "Messiah"—both are easy to find online. Exploration: Notice how prominent names of Jesus are in these verses. How important is your name to you? Expression: What does each name of Jesus mean to you specifically? Discuss with friends or family or journal about how Jesus expresses Himself in these various ways in your life. Experience: How have you experienced Jesus as a Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace? How is He a King of Kings and Lord of Lord? Now read the charge to Timothy about how to live ready to meet our King. Isaiah 9:6-7 6For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders.
