If they ever try to remake "It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" or even make a sequel they would have to round up the funniest people in show business just like they did 50 years ago. I would like to point out that there were some obvious omissions to the original picture. Those left out were Jackie Gleason, Bob Hope, Lucille Ball, Carol Burnett, Phyllis Diller, Totie Fields, Dean Martin (Lewis was in it), Foster Brooks, Red Skelton, Burns and Allen, *** Van *** Bob Newhart, Groucho Marx, Johnny Carson, Charlie Chaplin, Don Rickles, Danny Thomas, Vivian Vance, Redd Foxx, Eve Arden, Doris Day and Mel Brooks. I am sure I am leaving out many but those are the only ones that come to mind. Now, here is my wish list for a new cast for a remake or sequel: Jonathan Winters (he could play the same character), Mel Brooks, Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick, Jennifer Aniston, Paul Rudd, George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Melissa Mccarthy, Amy Poehler, Andrea Martin, Catherine O'Hara, John Cleese, Martin Short, Steve Mar ...
The late, great Phyllis Diller was an aspiring young comic when she appeared on You Bet Your Life in 1958. Groucho thought she was very funny, and the appearance proved to be a big boost to her career. Cladrite Radio: Toe-tapping tunes of the 1920s,

I believe in the afterlife, and if I am right, somewhere, right now, Groucho Marx, Benny Hill, Rodney Dangerfield, George Burns and Phyllis Diller are sitting around a table smoking cigars and playing cards. The Three Stooges are serving drinks. Now how is that for a lite, comforting thought to start your day? I do believe I just won an argument from last night. The wifey and I were discussing the nature of my personality. I claimed to be a sentimental humanist. The wife claimed that sometimes people treat me like I am an unsympathetic jerk. Well, I most definitely heard the word “Jerk” in her rant. The above expression of nostalgia proves, without doubt, I AM RIGHT
The absolute Queen of comedy left us wanting more today, as Phyllis Diller passed away in her sleep at the age of 95. She began as a contestant on the old Groucho Marx tv game show in the early 50's. Groucho told her, "Hey, you're funny!". That's all she needed to hear, and after rasing five children in the San Francisco bay area, she began her comedy career. Her laugh was genuine, and was unmistakable. She will always be remembered for her great laugh, he love for people, and her devotion to entertaining the U.S. military forces in Viet Nam in the 60's with her good friend Bob Hope.
An true icon died today at the age of 95. She was an actress on the broadway stage, a tv star, a movie star, a vegas and stand-up comedy star, and a winner on "You Bet Your Life" starring Groucho Marx. She was a wife, a mother, and groundbreaker, performing stand-up comedy when almost no wman had done it before. Whatever she did, she was a star at it. No, not just a star...a STAR! RIP, Phyllis Diller. You will be sorely missed.
Hey, while searching for Phyllis Diller's first appearance on "You Bet Your Life," I ran across an episode with Lord Buckley as a contestant. Hip has just entered the room!
Phyllis Diller, 95, dies. Brilliant, unique comedian of past. Discovered on Groucho Marx' "you bet your life" in the 50's. Bob Hope pal. RIP
We note the passing of Phyllis Diller. In this clip, she talks about her first television appearance, w/ Groucho Marx:
Phyllis Diller's first television appearance (with Groucho Marx)
Good God! Fox has got to lose the fatuous and condescending Shep Smith. Talking about the pioneer Phyllis Diller- he just said, "and then some guy told her she was funny"... that " some guy" was GROUCHO MARX, you brain-dead twit! rant terminated.
Phyllis Diller belongs on the very, very short list of all time icons of comedy. Her name is not out of place alongside the Groucho Marx's & George Burns' of history. Unlike fellow groundbreaking female comic icon, Joan Rivers, Diller simply remained hysterical, & didn't ever BECOME the joke. RIP Phyllis. 95 years of making countless millions of people smile. THAT is a life well lived.
