Last night, Jim and I went to our first Millennium Park concert of the season, to hear the Grant Park Orchestra and Chorus perform Benjamin Britten's "War Requiem." Despite some showers (the pay station reader wouldn't accept the damp ticket from my pocket) and the bugs who love the damp, we had a great time. Lots of small and very enthusiastic neighbors around us last night, which made for lots of visual entertainment. Last year, we figured we went to five of the series - we're shooting to break our record this summer.
I was downtown yesterday with the kids when I got to hear the Grant Park Orchestra rehearsing the War Requiem ... brought back memories

Went to the Lyric Opera Preview at the Pritzker Pavillion in Millennium Park - what a wonderful orchestra, chorus, and singers, a clear step above the excellent Grant Park Orchestra and Chorus! De Paul and Resurrection alum Cecelia Hall sang in two minor roles in La Traviata and Carmen excerpts; and I wouldn't have missed it for the world. All featured mezzos.
Two nearly full sections of two great Viennese works separated by 120 years made up the bill as Ryan Center singers performed Wednesday with the Grant Park Orchestra at the Pritzker Pavilion. Nine of the 11 2012-13 Ryan members took 10 roles. All were good and all were poised.

My 18-word review of last night's first performance of the Paris Opéra Ballet's Lifar-Petit-Béjart mixed French 20th century program: "Just as the French know how to do taste, they have a unique affinity for the tasteless, too." Bravi again to the women! And Bravo again to the Grant Park Orchestra!
