Cricket: Sri Lanka bat against New Zealand Sri Lanka's captain Angelo Mathews won the toss and chose to bat in the second one-day international against New Zealand in Hambantota on Tuesday. The first match on Sunday at the same venue was rained off, with the Black Caps on 13-1 off 4.2 overs in reply to the home team's 288-9. New Zealand: Kyle Mills (capt), Tom Latham, Anton Devcich, Rob Nicol, Grant Elliott, Colin Munro, Luke Ronchi, James Neesham, Nathan McCullum, Adam Milne, Andrew Ellis. Sri Lanka: Angelo Mathews (capt), Tillakaratne Dilshan, Dimuth Karunaratne, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Dinesh Chandimal, Lahiru Thirimanne, Nuwan Kulasekara, Lasith Malinga, Rangana Herath, Sachithra Senanayake. Bangladesh aim for T20 improvement November 6, 2013 Start time 13:30 local (07:30 GMT) This is probably the best time for Bangladesh to begin fixing their horrible Twenty20 record. They have lost six of their last seven matches, and went down to teams like Netherlands and Scotland in recent times. A fast improving team in the ODI format, Bangladesh have not yet adapted to the game's shortest version. New Zealand, on the other hand, are a skilled team in this format and could use it to end their tour of Bangladesh positively, after failing to win a Test and losing the ODIs 0-3. Led by Kyle Mills, they performed a little better in the final one-dayer, scoring 307 for 5 but were let down by the bowlers. New Zealand are bolstered by Luke Ronchi in the middle order while Corey Anderson, Jimmy Neesham and Grant Elliott will be expected to pull weight as allrounders. Their pace attack has struggled and so has their solitary spinner in Nathan McCullum. The absence of more quality slow bowlers has been a weakness ...

Bangladesh will play a cricket, ‘positive’ and ‘aggressive’ cricket to seal the one- day international series by winning the second match on Thursday, according to Bangladesh vice-captain Mahmudullah Riyad. Bangladesh are one up in the three-ODI series picking up a 43-run D/L win against visiting New Zealand in the first match on Tuesday. “They will try their best to come back. So, we will play a cricket that is positive and aggressive,” Riyad said after a practice session at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Wednesday. Though the visiting side have lost the last five ODIs to the hosts and their two current tour’s Tests were not that much dominating, Riyad continued in a combative mood, “They are an excellent side. We’ve to play our best to defeat them. Corey Anderson, Grant Elliott are playing well.” Both sides put up fights in their two- match Test series, which was also troubled by rain in Chittagong and Dhaka. The middle order batsman went on to tell about the wicket in ...
Drawn Tests give ODIs more context : New Zealand will be out to take revenge for their 0-4 embarrassment in 2010. Bangladesh, like they have been since the 4-0 win, will once again be out to prove that they are indeed making steady progress. Their improvement is marked in the ODI format, more than in Tests or Twenty20s, but the visitors too have been in good form over the last 12 months. New Zealand have won two of their last four bilateral series, against South Africa and England. They are, however, without Martin Guptill due to an ankle injury, and have to put together a new opening partnership. Hamish Rutherford could open with newcomer Anton Devcich, as captain Brendon McCullum has preferred batting at No. 5 or 6 in the recent past. Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor are batsmen in form while there are plenty of allrounders in the line-up to be used at different occasions. Grant Elliott, Corey Anderson, James Neesham and Colin Munro are all options that are available to McCullum, alongside his brother Na ...
Australia vs New Zealand, Edgbaston New Zealand (possible) 1 Martin Guptill, 2 Luke Ronchi (wk), 3 Kane Williamson, 4 Ross Taylor, 5 James Franklin, 6 Brendon McCullum (capt), 7 Colin Munro / Grant Elliott, 8 Nathan McCullum, 9 Tim Southee, 10 Kyle Mills, 11 Mitchell McClenaghan. Australia (possible) 1 Shane Watson, 2 David Warner, 3 Phillip Hughes, 4 George Bailey (capt), 5 Adam Voges, 6 Mitchell Marsh / Glenn Maxwell, 7 Matthew Wade (wk), 8 James Faulkner, 9 Mitchell Johnson, 10 Mitchell Starc / Xavier Doherty, 11 Clint McKay. This is another Do or Die match. If Australia lose there chances of making it is very slim. But if they win, they will be back in the mix. For New Zealand, winning will put them in a good position and they should qualify if they win. Daniel Vettori and Micheal Clarke will not play in this game. Both teams will try and win the trans-tasman game!
Right, an admirable chase from New Zealand, but some things it needs to sort out before the Champions Trophy: 1. Finding a fifth bowler. James Franklin, Kane Williamson and Colin Munro do not equal a fifth bowler. Williamson is a sixth bowling option, Franklin ideally should not be bowling, and Munro should not be seen without ten metres of a bowling crease. 2. Finding an opening batsman. Still can’t understand why Luke Ronchi was selected in the first place, and he’s been shown to be hopelessly out of his depth at this level. If BJ Watling can’t recover in time, we are effectively one down before we walk out to bat. 3. Not playing Colin Munro. Munro’s footwork makes Mathew Sinclair look like a majestic Martin Crowe. An embarrassment at this level. Grant Elliott is not a fashionable choice, but he knows his game, scores runs and rotates the strike. 4. Bowling Yorkers. What happened to our death bowling? Not so long ago Tim Southee was the best death bowler in the world. Maybe he’s struggling to ...
ICC Champions Trophy 2013 Team Preview – New Zealand::: (NZ men, Possible XI and NZ fixtures) Over the last few tears, Kyle Mills has been the spearhead of the New Zealand Bowling attack in ODI’s. He has been successful with the New Ball, swinging it both ways and causing troubles for the batsmen. With the Conditions in England, suits the Seamers, Mills will be the key to New Zealand’s fortunes in the ICC Champions Trophy 2013.Mills’ new ball partner Tim Southee is currently one of the Finest New Ball Bowler around the World. Similarly, Batting at number 3, Williamson binds the Kiwi Batting line-up and is expected to set a platform for Ross Taylor, Brendon McCullum and Luke Ronchi to finish off things in style. Moreover NZ will be expecting a good inning from their Opener M. Guptill. Possible Playing XI Luke Ronchi(w.k), Martin Guptill , Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor, Grant Elliott, Brendon McCullam(c), James Franklin, Nathan McCullam, Kyle Mills, Tim Southee, Mitchell McClenaghan. 2013 Champions Trophy: Meet the teams New Zealand Champions in 2000, the Black Caps are also the dark horses in a group, where the other three teams are superior, at least on paper. Luke Ronchi should have an interesting time, if he gets to play against his previous employers- Australia on June 12. Some of the names in this team, have the skill and talent to match the best in the world. But what matters is what they register under the ‘matchs won’ column in the points table. Squad: Brendon McCullum (captain), Trent Boult, Doug Bracewell, Grant Elliott, James Franklin, Martin Guptill, Mitchell McClenaghan, Nathan McCullum, Kyle Mills, Colin Munro, Luke Ronchi, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor, Daniel Vettori, Kane Williamson.
POTCHEFSTROOM, South Africa - A six from Ryan McLaren off the final delivery and a rapid 116 by Graeme Smith helped South Africa to a thrilling one-wicket victory over New Zealand in the third one-day international on Friday. The Proteas, who came into the game having already lost the three-match series 2-0, had been set a target of 261 after half-centuries from Grant Elliott (54), Colin Munro (57) and James Franklin (53 not out) had steered New Zealand to 260 for nine in their 50 overs. Man-of-the-match Smith's knock seemed to have put the home side on course for victory but a lower-order collapse meant they required three off the final delivery with just one wicket in hand. However, a six over fine leg from all-rounder McLaren (25 not out) gave South Africa their first victory of the series and ensured they avoided a whitewash. New Zealand had already claimed their first ODI series on South African soil but still went wholeheartedly for the final victory as they won the toss and elected to bat. They mad ...
Ryder assault crushes Central Districts December 7, 2012 Wellington 214 for 5 (Ryder 75, Elliott 50, Franklin 42*) beat Central Districts 159 (Young 34, Woakes 3-27) by 55 runs Scorecard Central Districts faced a Jesse Ryder onslaught from the outset, and couldn't recover from it; they went down to Wellington by 55 runs in Napier. After asking Wellington to bat, they faced Ryder's storm, and by the time he had departed - after scoring 76 off 26 deliveries - in the eighth over, Central Districts were behind in the game. Their opponents built on the whirlwind start, and scored 214 in their 20 overs, helped by Grant Elliott's quick half-century. Seamer Chris Woakes, with his three wickets, then helped bowl Central Districts out for 159 in 19 overs. Ryder struck a boundary off the first delivery he faced, and followed it up with a six. He dominated the opening stand of 105, scoring more than 70% of the runs. He had reached his half-century off 16 deliveries, the joint eighth-fastest fifty in Twenty20s, and th ...
