Resurrecting my post from a year ago: I offer the following list of professional sports team names that should also be changed, just to keep things fair. If I entered into the college realm this would turn into a book. * Detroit Pistons: How can anyone name their team after a key component of evil carbon-burning machines? * Golden State Warriors: Promoting violence, mocking native Americans. * Houston Rockets: NASA is dead, and rockets kill people. * Miami Heat: Don’t promote global warming!!! Al Roker might blame them for Superstorm Sandy. * Philadelphia 76ers: Why promote terrorist revolutionaries? * Sacramento Kings: Promotes the 1%. The fix? Change the name to Obamas. * Kansas City Chiefs: Obviously hateful, chief. * Cleveland Browns: That’s just racist. You might as well call them the Cleveland You People. * Oakland Raiders: More violence. * Minnesota Vikings: They pillaged and burned. Bad role model. * Tampa Bay Buccaneers: More stealing and violence. * San Francisco 49ers: Promoting gold-diggin ...
All NBA-First Team Released The NBA has released their All-NBA First Team, and this year's team is highlighted by MVP Kevin Durant. Durant was the lone unanimous member of the team, as he averaged an NBA-high 32.0 points per game along with 7.4 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game. This is Durant's fifth All-NBA First Team appearance in just his seventh NBA season. Miami Heat forward Lebron James made his eighth All-NBA First Team, but was not a unanimous selection, receiving 124 out of 125 votes. Los Angeles Clippers Point Guard Chris Paul earned his fourth All NBA-First Team after leading the NBA in assists with 10.3 per game. Houston Rockets guard James Harden made the First Team for the first time in his career as did Chicago Bulls center Joakim Noah. The Second-Team All-NBA team selections were San Antonio Spurs Point Guard Tony Parker, Golden State Warriors' guard Stephen Curry, Los Angeles Clippers' forward Blake Griffin, Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard, and Minnesota Timberwovles forward Kevin L ...

There's nothing wrong with losing after an 8-game win streak, especially on the road to a good team like the Golden State Warriors. But the Houston Rockets could have extended it a bit further if Jeremy Lin would have been more involved, instead of having forced to stand in the corner and watch Jame...

Golden State Warriors had a huge win against the dangerous Houston Rockets last night. The win ended an 8 game winning streak for the Rockets and put the Warriors 11 games over 500. Jermaine O'Neal had a huge game saving block to hold off the Rockets from taking the lead late in overtime. Curry added 25 points with 14 of his points coming in the 4th quarter and overtime. The Warriors play the Nets on Saturday at 7:30pm.

Happy 50th Birthday to Mario Elie (The Junkyard Dog). Mario was a 3-time NBA champion with the Houston Rockets (1994, 1995) and San Antonio Spurs (1999). Mario is known for his ''Kiss of Death'' 3-point shot in Game 7 of the 1995 Western Conference Semifinals against Charles Barkley (Sir Charles), Kevin Johnson (KJ), Dan Majerle and the Phoenix Suns. Mario Elie went to the same high school (Power Memorial High School) as Hall of Famers Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Chris Mullin. Mario was an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs, Golden State Warriors, Dallas Mavericks, Sacramento Kings and New Jersey/Brooklyn Nets. Mario is married to ABC Channel 13 Houston anchor Gina Gaston and they have 10-year old triplets, 2 boys and 1 girl.
Here are today's Must-See Matchups: Key Game: Indiana Pacers at New York Knicks: Last postseason, the Pacers eliminated the Knicks in the second round of the playoffs. With the absence of Tyson Chandler, Roy Hibbert will most likely take advantage. -Washington Wizards at Cleveland Cavaliers: Former overall picks John Wall and Kyrie Irving headline the matchup. Can Wall build on last night's success, or will Kyrie and the Cavs claim the victory? -LA Clippers at Minnesota Timberwolves: Last week, the Clippers defeated the Timberwolves in a close game. In the second game of this series, the Wolves will try to upset the Clippers. -Houston Rockets at Dallas Mavericks: Earlier this season, the Rockets decimated the Mavs in Houston. Dirk and Monta will try to give the Rockets a taste of their own medicine at home. -Memphis Grizzlies at Golden State Warriors: Despite the absence of Steph Curry, Igoudala and Thompson will seek to slaughter the Grizzlies, who currently hold a 3 game road win streak. -Jordan23
Important Years For Dirk, Aldridge, Love The middle of the Western Conference might be the most interesting storyline of the regular season. Six teams -- the San Antonio Spurs, Oklahoma City Thunder, Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors -- seem to have separated themselves from the pack, leaving only two playoff spots available. A postseason appearance is particularly important for the Dallas Mavericks, Portland Trail Blazers and Minnesota Timberwolves, three franchises trying to keep an All-Star power forward in town. Barring injuries to a top team, there won't be lifeboats for all of them. Dirk Nowitzki, LaMarcus Aldridge and Kevin Love are too good to be annually missing the playoffs. Last season, injuries were the culprit for Nowitzki and Love, as their teams fell apart without them. Aldridge, meanwhile, was a good soldier on a team bringing along two lottery picks. As they move closer to the end of their contracts, the stakes are getting higher. With All- ...
Oklahoma City Thunder: Oklahoma City Thunder have been the best in the home and away season, although crumbling in the finals. If Oklahoma City Thunder make it to the conference finals, can they defeat the likes of San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets or Golden State Warriors? If they get that far are they a match for the Miami Heat or the Indiana Pacers? Roster is as followed; Point Guard: Russel Westbrook / Derek Fisher / Reggie Jackson Shooting Guard: Thabo Sefolosha / Jeremy Lamb Small Forward: Kevin Durant / Perry Jones / Ryan Gomes Power Forward: Serge Ibaka / Nick Collison Centre: Kendrick Perkins / Daniel Orton / Steven Adams / Hasheem Thabeet Russel Westbrook suffered knee injuries in the playoffs last season and that could be why Oklahoma City Thunder were eliminated. Derek Fisher only has one more season left in him although Reggie Jackson looks to be a promising youngster. Trading James Harden for Jeremy Lamb was a bad idea, as in my opinion Thabo Sefolosha just isn’t the future of shooting gu ...

Happy Free Agency season everybody! In the NBA, Dwight Howard decides to join the Houston Rockets. The Golden State Warriors add Andre Iguodala. Plently more to come puls Tons of moves in the NHL that will be listed in the near future. In the MLB, Vernon Wells' walk-off single lifts the Yankees past the Os (3-2). Juan Uribe racks up seven RBIs in rout of the Giants (10-2). Big Papi's pinch-hit HR secures Red Sox 6-2 victory over the Angels. Rick Porcello and the Tigers shut out second-place Indians (7-0). Lee wins his 10th game as Phillies gain ground on Braves (5-4). Another 15 games on the schedule for Saturday and more Free Agency drama from both the NHL and the NBA to play out!!!
Even though Dwight Howard made his decision to sign with the Houston Rockets yesterday, I think the biggest signing of the summer so far, is Andre Iguodala to the Golden State Warriors. Lets be honest, who all seen this coming? I sure as *** didn't! But this move proves to me that Golden State is ready to make that next step after last season playoff run. Golden State has made the right moves the past 3 seasons in bringing in talent, drafting well, and having confidence in Mark Jackson, who prior to his tenure in Golden State, has no NBA coaching experience. Now adding Iguodala to the mix with that starting 5, can actually let Steph Curry become even more lethal off screens since it wont be a need for him to bring the ball up every possession he's in the game. Iguodala is as versatile as they come, all expect Klay and Steph to hoist up even more 3's. Possibly bringing Harrison Barnes off the bench along with Draymond Green adds more scoring if they're not abke to bring back 6th man Jarrett Jack. But they ...
NBA Update: Andre Iguodala signed with Golden State Warriors. Dwight Howard with the Houston Rockets. Paul Pierce & Kevin Garnett with Brooklyn Nets.
THE ROCKETS ARE THE WINNERS OF THE Dwight Howard DERBY: Dwight Howard reportedly leaving Los Angeles Lakers for the Houston Rockets. He hopes to finalize his decision [Friday night] or [Saturday] morning," Howard's agent, Dan Fegan, told Yahoo! Sports. In addition to the Rockets and Lakers, Howard seriously considered the Dallas Mavericks and Golden State Warriors. He informed the Mavs and Warriors earlier Friday that they were no longer in the running. Howard, a nine-year pro, spent the 2012-13 season with the Lakers after being acquired from Orlando. Despite myriad injuries, Howard averaged 17.1 points, a league-leading 12.4 rebounds and 2.4 blocks and shot 57.8 percent from the field. The Lakers finished the season 45-37, falling to the Spurs in the first round of the playoffs. Are the Rockets best basketball fit for Dwight Howard?
If Houston Rockets manage to acquire Dwight Howard and Josh Smith before the Free Agency ends on July 10,the coming NBA season will be very interesting to watch. Teams to watchout for: Brooklyn Nets,Houston Rockets,Golden State Warriors,New Orleans Pelicans,Cleveland Cavaliers,Portland Trailblazers and Charlotte Bobcats.
He’s got the whole world...Or so it seems By: Travis Nicholas July 4, 2013 | Gloucester, Virginia At 12:01 A.M. Eastern on Monday Free Agency began in the NBA and for the teams that want a championship the most one man was the first case on their docket early Monday morning. Though having yet to win a championship, Dwight Howard was the most sought after free agent when the clock started for teams to begin talking to the league's free agent market. The last few days Howard has had meetings with the Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks, Atlanta Hawks, Golden State Warriors, and the Los Angeles Lakers for whom he played for last year. The decision is now squarely in the hands of Howard who in the past in similar situations has not been so quick to come to a decision. Espn's Adam Schefter reported yesterday that Howard hopes to make a decision as early as Friday. So let's take a look at his options. Door Stay In L.A. If Howard chooses this option he will make more money than anywhere else, and he has a chanc ...
Two days, five teams, five meetings and lots of information to parse. And that’s just for those of us who are following this where-will-Dwight-Howard-land saga. After the last two potential suitors (the Dallas Mavericks and the incumbent L.A. Lakers) made their sales pitches to the free-agent center yesterday, it’s now up to Howard to sit back, think over the options — Lakers, Mavs, Houston Rockets, Atlanta Hawks and Golden State Warriors — and reveal his decision (hopefully by July 10).
*Free Agency UPDATES* 1. OJ Mayo signed with the Bucks. 2. Kyle Korver signs 4year deal with Atlanta Hawks. 3. Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets still on the chase for Dwight Howard. 4. The race for Dwight Howard begins late this evening, just in time for the start of Free Agency at midnight. Houston Rockets will first dibs at Dwight, meeting with him late this evening into early morning. The Atlanta Hawks, and surprisingly, the Golden State Warriors will meet with him later Monday. The Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers will finish up meetings with him Tuesday. Dwight has stated that he would make a decision before the 3rd week of July. -Brandon H

Scramble in the West! While the Eastern Conference's Final 8 is almost clearly pictured now, the rankings in the West isn't that clear yet. The top 5 of the West is almost locked-in within those 5 spots while the 6th to 8th spots are still up for grabs. The teams that are still trying their best to land on those precious 3 spots are as follows: 1. Golden State Warriors - currently at number 6 2. Houston Rockets - currently at 7th 3. Los Angeles Lakers and Utah Jazz - currently TIED at the 8th spot with 33-31 Win-Loss records. 4. Dallas Mavericks and Portland Trailblazers - currently TIED at the 10th spot with 29-33 W-L records. The Warriors are 2 full games ahead of the Lakers and the Jazz while the Rockets are .5 game ahead as well. The mavericks cannot be counted out yet since they are making a run for that 8th spot, winning 3 straight games. The Trailblazers can also make a run but they are currently in a see-saw mode, winning some and losing some games. Who will make the cut? Hmmm. We'll find out come ...
Jeremy Shu-How Lin, born August 23, 1988) is an American professional basketball player for the Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). After receiving no athletic scholarship offers out of high school and being undrafted out of Harvard University, Lin reached a partially guaranteed contract deal in 2010 with his hometown Golden State Warriors. He seldom played in his rookie season and was assigned to the NBA Development League (D-League) three times. He was waived by the Warriors and the Rockets the following preseason before joining the New York Knicks early in the 2011–12 season. He continued to play sparingly and again spent time in the D-League. In February 2012, he unexpectedly led a winning streak by New York while being promoted to the starting lineup, which generated a global following known as Linsanity. In the summer of 2012, Lin signed a three-year contract with the Rockets. Lin is one of the few Asian Americans in NBA history, and the first American of Chinese or Taiwa ...

On March 22, 2012, the Houston Rockets celebrated their 1990's Team of the Decade, as voted by the fans. Hakeem Olajuwon, Clyde Drexler, Robert Horry and Mario Elie were in attendance for the event. Kenny Smith was also chosen for the team, but was unable to attend.
