Close look and summary on the Western Conference Western Conference 1. Golden State Warriors. Some of this is who’s not with Kevin Durant hurt, the Clippers incomplete and the Spurs not likely to have that same desire. Plus, the Warriors are loaded. Their backcourt starters are the best in the league and they’ve finally got size and depth up front, even Andre Iguodala off the bench. Could be Steve Kerr gets that coach of the year because few are making this pick. But perhaps they have good reason. 2. Dallas Mavericks. It’s going to be a wild, wild, wild west this season with teams in second and two weeks later in ninth. As quietly as you can do things with Mark Cuban, there’s no one running away with it and they’ve added some of the right pieces with Tyson Chandler (forget giving him away for no reason like they did with Steve Nash), Chandler Parsons and about eight point guards, but at least NBA veterans. They came the closest to taking out the Spurs as well and Dirk is healthier this season. . ...

Hey guys, here's my special report: Tonight's NBA on TNT witnessed the Brooklyn Nets def. the Houston Rockets 105-96 to not only get their 14th straight win at home, but also, they are the 5th team in the East to clinch a Playoff Berth Meanwhile. The Portland Trail Blazers def. the Los Angeles Lakers 124-112 and they still hang on to and hopes to move back up to also, in other NBA Action, the Golden State Warriors def. the Dallas Mavericks in Overtime 122-120 when Stephen Curry made the last shot at the buzzer Warriors move to and the Mavericks drop to but it's far from over and anything, and I do mean ANYTHING can still happen Tomorrow Night on the NBA on ESPN, 2 New York Teams will do battle once again as the Brooklyn Nets take on the New York Knicks at the World's Most Famous Arena-Madison Square Garden and the Knicks are looking to not only def. the Nets, but also, get into the Elite 8 of the Eastern Conference Playoffs

The post season is still achievable for the Cavaliers despite winning only 2 of their last 7 ball games. The NBA playoff standings for 2014 are not set in stone yet as some teams are closing in on the bottom spots. The Atlanta Hawks have gone on a dismal 1-9 run in the last 10 games, allowing the Cleveland Cavaliers and Detroit Pistons to close in on the 8th spot. The Charlotte Bobcats and Brooklyn Nets are not that far ahead either. So the Eastern Conference playoff positionings could easily change in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, in the Western Conference, an 2-8 showing in the last 10 games for the Denver Nuggets has likely knocked them out of playoff contention. The Minnesota Timberwolves and Memphis Grizzlies are eying the bottom slots, while the Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks, and Golden State Warriors are looking to hold on.
The Toronto RaptorsDwane Casey and the Phoenix SunsJeff Hornacek were named the NBA Eastern and Western Conference Coaches of the Month. Casey led the Raptors to an 8-6 record, including road wins over the Dallas Mavericks and Oklahoma City Thunder. Hornacek guided the Suns to a 10-3 record, including wins over the Mavericks, Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers.

Mario is known for his ''Kiss of Death'' 3-point shot in Game 7 of the 1995 Western Conference Semifinals against Charles Barkley (Sir Charles), Kevin Johnson (KJ), Dan Majerle and the Phoenix Suns. Mario Elie went to the same high school (Power Memorial High School) as Hall of Famers Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Chris Mullin. Mario was an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs, Golden State Warriors, Dallas Mavericks, Sacramento Kings and New Jersey/Brooklyn Nets. Mario is married to ABC Channel 13 Houston anchor Gina Gaston and they have 10-year old triplets, 2 boys and 1 girl.
Here are today's Must-See Matchups: Key Game: Indiana Pacers at New York Knicks: Last postseason, the Pacers eliminated the Knicks in the second round of the playoffs. With the absence of Tyson Chandler, Roy Hibbert will most likely take advantage. -Washington Wizards at Cleveland Cavaliers: Former overall picks John Wall and Kyrie Irving headline the matchup. Can Wall build on last night's success, or will Kyrie and the Cavs claim the victory? -LA Clippers at Minnesota Timberwolves: Last week, the Clippers defeated the Timberwolves in a close game. In the second game of this series, the Wolves will try to upset the Clippers. -Houston Rockets at Dallas Mavericks: Earlier this season, the Rockets decimated the Mavs in Houston. Dirk and Monta will try to give the Rockets a taste of their own medicine at home. -Memphis Grizzlies at Golden State Warriors: Despite the absence of Steph Curry, Igoudala and Thompson will seek to slaughter the Grizzlies, who currently hold a 3 game road win streak. -Jordan23
Good morning, y'all! Today is the debut of the NBA regular season. There are 30 teams reaching for that one prestigious goal: the NBA championship! Out of 30 teams, 12 of the teams have African American head coaches. They are Jason Kidd of the Brooklyn Nets, Mike Brown of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Brian Shaw of the Denver Nuggets, Maurice Cheeks of the Detroit Pistons, Mark Jackson of the Golden State Warriors, Doc Rivers of the Los Angeles Clippers, Larry Drew of the Milwaukee Bucks, Monty Williams of the New Orleans Pelicans, Mike Woodson of the New York Knicks, Jacque Vaughn of the Orlando Magic, Dwane Casey of the Toronto Raptors, and Tyrone Corbin of the Utah Jazz. Only Doc Rivers has a ring when he won the title in 2008 when he coached the Boston Celtics while Jason Kidd is the only coach who won a title as a player when he did it in 2011 with the Dallas Mavericks. Brian Shaw finally got a head coaching job that was long overdue. Since he was in the shadow of legendary coach Phil Jackson, he should b ...
Important Years For Dirk, Aldridge, Love The middle of the Western Conference might be the most interesting storyline of the regular season. Six teams -- the San Antonio Spurs, Oklahoma City Thunder, Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors -- seem to have separated themselves from the pack, leaving only two playoff spots available. A postseason appearance is particularly important for the Dallas Mavericks, Portland Trail Blazers and Minnesota Timberwolves, three franchises trying to keep an All-Star power forward in town. Barring injuries to a top team, there won't be lifeboats for all of them. Dirk Nowitzki, LaMarcus Aldridge and Kevin Love are too good to be annually missing the playoffs. Last season, injuries were the culprit for Nowitzki and Love, as their teams fell apart without them. Aldridge, meanwhile, was a good soldier on a team bringing along two lottery picks. As they move closer to the end of their contracts, the stakes are getting higher. With All- ...
The Houston Rockets have been fined $150,000 for their comments on free-agent center Dwight Howard. An NBA spokesman confirms the team and its personnel were fined $150,000 by the league for unauthorized public comments about Howard during the league's annual moratorium on player business. Dwight Howard verbally committed Friday to sign a four-year, $88 million contract with the Rockets, passing up a $118 million deal over five years to stay with the Los Angeles Lakers and likewise spurning interest from Dallas Mavericks , Golden State Warriors and Atlanta Hawks. Houston Rockets GM Daryl Morey and coach Kevin McHale were both quoted extensively over the weekend after securing Howard's verbal commitment. Teams are not allowed to publicly treat verbal agreements as done deals until the moratorium is lifted and contracts can be officially signed. Until Wednesday, teams and players can only verbally agree to terms on new contracts for Free Agents. ---NBA DRAFT THUG
THE ROCKETS ARE THE WINNERS OF THE Dwight Howard DERBY: Dwight Howard reportedly leaving Los Angeles Lakers for the Houston Rockets. He hopes to finalize his decision [Friday night] or [Saturday] morning," Howard's agent, Dan Fegan, told Yahoo! Sports. In addition to the Rockets and Lakers, Howard seriously considered the Dallas Mavericks and Golden State Warriors. He informed the Mavs and Warriors earlier Friday that they were no longer in the running. Howard, a nine-year pro, spent the 2012-13 season with the Lakers after being acquired from Orlando. Despite myriad injuries, Howard averaged 17.1 points, a league-leading 12.4 rebounds and 2.4 blocks and shot 57.8 percent from the field. The Lakers finished the season 45-37, falling to the Spurs in the first round of the playoffs. Are the Rockets best basketball fit for Dwight Howard?
He’s got the whole world...Or so it seems By: Travis Nicholas July 4, 2013 | Gloucester, Virginia At 12:01 A.M. Eastern on Monday Free Agency began in the NBA and for the teams that want a championship the most one man was the first case on their docket early Monday morning. Though having yet to win a championship, Dwight Howard was the most sought after free agent when the clock started for teams to begin talking to the league's free agent market. The last few days Howard has had meetings with the Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks, Atlanta Hawks, Golden State Warriors, and the Los Angeles Lakers for whom he played for last year. The decision is now squarely in the hands of Howard who in the past in similar situations has not been so quick to come to a decision. Espn's Adam Schefter reported yesterday that Howard hopes to make a decision as early as Friday. So let's take a look at his options. Door Stay In L.A. If Howard chooses this option he will make more money than anywhere else, and he has a chanc ...
Two days, five teams, five meetings and lots of information to parse. And that’s just for those of us who are following this where-will-Dwight-Howard-land saga. After the last two potential suitors (the Dallas Mavericks and the incumbent L.A. Lakers) made their sales pitches to the free-agent center yesterday, it’s now up to Howard to sit back, think over the options — Lakers, Mavs, Houston Rockets, Atlanta Hawks and Golden State Warriors — and reveal his decision (hopefully by July 10).
Dallas Mavericks had a 3 hour meeting with the All Stat center Dwight Howard. Next up for Dwight to visit is his hometown Atlanta Hawks and then Golden State Warriors both long shots to get Dwight Howard. -Chase

I was listening to Bill Laimbeer interviewed on sports talk radio and I remembered how much I didn't like that guy, but would love to have him on my team. A lot of times we don't think we can come up with 10 great Caucasian NBA players to make a formidable team, but I got a list of 12 that can play in this order: 12) Kevin Love (F/C Minnesota T-Wolves) : Career just starting. Great future. 11) Drazen Petrovic (G - New Jersey Nets) : Great shooter 10) Steve Nash (G - Mavs, Suns, Lakers) : 2 Time MVP. Liability on defense. 9) John Stockton (G - Utah Jazz) : NBA All time leader in assists. 8) Rick Barry (F - Golden State Warriors) : Great scorer. Lead Warriors to NBA title. 7) "Pistol" Pete Maravich (G - N.O./Utah Jazz, Hawks): Pro career not as great as college 6) Chris Mullin (F - Warriors & Pacers) : Great shooter. Dream Teamer. 5) Bill Walton (C - Blazers, Clippers, Celtics) : Great early career. Injury marred thereafter. Extremely annoying 4) Dirk Nowitki (F - Dallas Mavericks) : 7 foot deadly shooter. ...
Scramble in the West! While the Eastern Conference's Final 8 is almost clearly pictured now, the rankings in the West isn't that clear yet. The top 5 of the West is almost locked-in within those 5 spots while the 6th to 8th spots are still up for grabs. The teams that are still trying their best to land on those precious 3 spots are as follows: 1. Golden State Warriors - currently at number 6 2. Houston Rockets - currently at 7th 3. Los Angeles Lakers and Utah Jazz - currently TIED at the 8th spot with 33-31 Win-Loss records. 4. Dallas Mavericks and Portland Trailblazers - currently TIED at the 10th spot with 29-33 W-L records. The Warriors are 2 full games ahead of the Lakers and the Jazz while the Rockets are .5 game ahead as well. The mavericks cannot be counted out yet since they are making a run for that 8th spot, winning 3 straight games. The Trailblazers can also make a run but they are currently in a see-saw mode, winning some and losing some games. Who will make the cut? Hmmm. We'll find out come ...

Happy 36th birthday to a great Carolina F/G Vince Carter. Vince played for the Tar Heels from 1995 to 1998 and showed some amazing skills on the floor, particularly with his dunking ability. At Carolina, Vince averaged 12.3 ppg and made 55% of his FG's throughout his career. Vince was a first-team all-ACC and second-team AP Consensus all-American during his junior year of 1998. He also played on two Final Four teams of 1997 & 1998. Following his career at Carolina, he was drafted by the Golden State Warriors with the 5th pick in the 1998 NBA Draft, but was immediately traded to Toronto for Carolina teammate Antawn Jamison, who was one pick ahead of Vince. In his current 16-year career, Vince was the 1999 Rookie of the Year, an eight-time All-Star, won the Slam Dunk Contest in 2000 and was part of the gold medal USA team at the Sydney Games.
