Manchester City transfer target Pedro has been put up for sale by Barcelona, according to Spanish newspaper Sport. The Spain international is one of 13 Barca stars made available for transfer this summer, with the La Liga giants set to undergo a root-and-branch clear-out at the end of the season. Pedro, who has been linked with United and City inside the last month, is reportedly unhappy under the management of Tata Martino and has rotated in the starting eleven with Alexis Sanchez. Despite the fact that Martino might not last the summer as Barca boss, the report claims Pedro could still be moved on anyway with just nine Barca first-team players judged "indispensable" by the club. Along with Pedro, Barcelona are willing to listen to offers for Cesc Fabregas, Alex Song, Javier Mascherano, Dani Alves, Adriano, Ibrahim Afellay, Jonathan dos Santos, Cristian Tello, Isaac Cuenca, Sergi Roberto, Alexis Sanchez and Oier Olazbal. The only Barca stars not for sale are Leo Messi, Jordi Alba, Gerard Pique, Sergio Bu ...
Barcelona set sights on Arsenal Centre-Back. Barcelona have reportedly set their sights on Arsenal centre-back Laurent Koscielny according to a number of reports including one from Spanish source Sport.es. Barcelona are understandably keen to strengthen their defence as Tito Vilanova, though blessed with a myriad of attacking options, doesn’t have all that many experienced and capable centre-backs in his armoury, indeed he basically has Gerard Pique and veteran Carles Puyol. This has left the La Liga side frequently having to use Javier Mascherano as a back-up option. Given the history of Arsenal players moving to join the Catalan side; Thierry Henry, Alexander Hleb, Cesc Fabregas and Alex Song to name four, Gunners fans may well fear interest from Barcelona in arguably their most effective defender. Koscielny and Per Mertesacker are Arsene Wenger’s central defensive pairing of choice and the duo worked excellently in the final two months of last term, form that helped the North London side to secure ...
Barcelona marked their crowning as La Liga champions with a come from behind 2-1 win at third-placed Atletico Madrid on Sunday despite finishing the game with 10 men. Real Madrid's 1-1 draw with Espanyol on Saturday meant that the Catalans, who now have four titles in five years and 22 in all, could no longer be caught. But in keeping with a number of their recent performances Barca started lethargically and were behind just after half-time when Radamel Falcao took advantage of slips by Gerard Pique and Alex Song to slot home his 28th league goal of the season. Lionel Messi then had to leave the field as his injury problems continued after Barca had made all three substitutions.
Barcelona incredible start to the Liga season continued with a 3-1 victory over Real Zaragoza at Camp Nou on Saturday night. With Lionel Messi in deadly form once again, the Blaugrana made it 11 wins out of 12 in the new campaign with a professional and clinical performance in front of their home fans. Messi opened the scoring 15 minutes into the game with a delightful move and finish, but Montanes pounced on a momentary defensive lapse to steer Zaragoza level 24 minutes in. But four minutes later, Messi was at it again, this time teeing up Alex Song to score his first ever Barca goal since his summer move from Arsenal. Messi added another brilliant effort on the hour mark to put the result beyond any doubt, and rack up his 50th goal in the 33 league games he has played in the calender year 2012, while putting the Blaugrana six points ahead of nearest challenges Atletico Madrid. Carles Puyol returned from injury to begin the match alongside Gerard Pique in the home side's defence, which was further change ...
Barcelona captain Carles Puyol makes his return from injury this evening as the Catalan side face Real Zaragoza at Camp Nou in the Spanish Primera Division. The Spain international has been out of action since suffering a dislocated shoulder against Benfica in the Champions League, but returns to the starting XI tonight and will partner Gerard Pique in central defence. There is another slightly surprising selection by Barca coach Tito Vilanova as Martin Montoya starts at right-back in favour of Dani Alves, with the Brazilian having to settle for a place on the bench. The integral midfield trio of the hosts features Xavi, Alex Song and Andres Iniesta. David Villa is rewarded for his current form by earning a start this evening. The former Valencia man has been in excellent form in the last few games and netted for Spain against Panama during the week. He will start on the left-hand side with Pedro and Lionel Messi making up the attacking frontline. Zaragoza start the match without Portuguese striker Helder ...
TEAM NEWS: Villa and Tello partner Messi upfront as Barcelona head to Mallorca The Spain international and Masia graduate start in attack for the Blaugrana, as the club look to put their disappointing midweek Champions League defeat to Celtic behind them By Charlie Scott Nov 11, 2012 4:10:00 PM Tito Vilanova makes five changes to the side that lost during the week for Barcelona's trip to Mallorca, with David Villa and Cristian Tello chosen to play with Lionel Messi in a front three for the Catalan giants. Villa and Tello replace Pedro and Alexis Sanchez, while Gerard Pique and Sergio Busquets also return to Barcelona's starting XI as Marc Bartra and Alex Song are dropped to the bench. Pique makes his first start in eight weeks after being injured during the club's Champions League match against Spartak Moscow in September. Cesc Fabregas is included in a midfield three alongside Xavi and Busquets, as Andres Iniesta is named as a substitute for tonight's game. Joaquin Caparros makes one change from his side ...
With Carles Puyol, Gerard Pique and Javier Mascherano all absent, Adriano was chosen to start in central defence alongside Sergio Busquets, whose vacated midfield spot was filled by Alex Song.

Won't somebody please think of the defenders? Barcelona are apparently on a quest to eradicate the world of defenders and strikers, creating a sport played exclusively by midfielders. Not a midfielder? Nah, not interested! It's a strategy that requires an extraordinary amount of faith in your own ability to keep the ball and minimise the opportunities the opposition will have to attack your defence. Given that this is Barcelona we're talking about, that's to be expected. Yet even the best can be beaten. Even the best have a weak spot and it is not hard to spot where Barcelona's lies: in the centre of defence. Tonight, against Real Madrid, Barcelona are likely to trust Alex Song and Javier Mascherano in the centre of defence. There are, of course, mitigating circumstances, injuries robbing them of both Gerard Pique and Carles Puyol. But where is the back-up? After all, Real have Pepe, Raphael Varane, Raul Albiol and Sergio Ramos to play centre-back.
+ Surprisingly -Adriano PLAYED AT Centre-back Rather than Alex Song, in the absence of Gerard Pique and Carles Puyol. -Andres Iniesta returned to the side in place of Alexis Sanchez. -Jose Mourinho went for a familiar side – with no Luka Modric or Michael Essien, it was essentially the Real of last season, with WHAT,WHO NOW ? -THE GERMAN Mesut Ozil as the Number ten. It was the usual pattern – Barca PASSING THE BALL, AND RealMADRID a threat from quicker attacks WITH TORMENTOR IN CHIEF OF THE ATTACK 'CR'and Set-pieces.
Liga preview: El Clasico dominates Spanish top flight ! Alex Song and Javier Mascherano are set to play in central defence for Barcelona against Real Madrid due to Carlos Puyol's dislocated elbow. Puyol dislocated his elbow when he landed awkwardly after going for a header in Barcelona's 2-0 Champions League win over Benfica on Tuesday and the Catalan club's head coach Tito Vilanova is likely to play Song and Mascherano in Sunday's El Clasico versus Real Madrid. Song and Mascherano are both more known as defensive midfielders but with regular central defenders Puyol and Gerard Pique injured and Eric Abidal still recovering from a liver transplant, Vilanova believes he has no other option.IRE O.
Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova has a defensive headache when the leaders host Granada on Saturday, with Spain centre backs Carles Puyol (knee) and Gerard Pique (foot) both sidelined by injury. Barcelona’s Tito Vilanova says Alex Song and Sergio Busquets are capable of replacing the injured Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique.
It started with a win. Tito Vilanova's team kicked off their Champions League with victory at home to Spartak Moscow on Wednesday, coming from behind to win 3-2, just as Real Madrid had done 24 hours earlier against Manchester City. As usual, Barcelona's midield was majestic, and their attack astonishing. But it was hard to make a case for the defence. Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique are two of the world's best centre-backs, but when they are missing, it shows. The Barca captain is sidelined with a knee injury and unlikely to return for over a month, so when Pique departed with a knock in this game, it left the Catalans with a back line made up of Dani Alves, Alex Song, Javier Mascherano and Adriano. No wonder Victor Valdes looks nervous. Alves spends most of his time in the opposition half as an unorthodox winger and handed Spartak an equaliser as he inexplicably turned the ball past Valdes, while Mascherano's lack of pace had allowed Emmanuel Emenike to escape down the right in the first place. Song, to h ...

Alex Song is apparently keen to discuss a new deal with Arsenal Barca have made little secret of their desire to sign Song, with players Sergio Busquets, Andres Iniesta and Gerard Pique all having spoken publicly of their desire to see the midfielder at the Camp Nou. However, Song, who is under contract at Emirates Stadium until 2014, is happy with the Gunners and is reported to be keen to discuss an extension. "I am not going to lie if I said there is no interest but I am at Arsenal and I am happy at Arsenal," he told Sky Sports. "Barcelona are the best team in the world, and speculation will always continue until the window closes." Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger confirmed Song is not for sale, declaring reports in Spain to be wide of the mark. "There's nothing going on with Song," said Wenger. "There's nothing in that. Song has three years contract he's not in the same si ...
