British & Irish Lions lock Geoff Parling says he was proud of England's performance against New Zealand, despite going down to a last-gasp 20-15 defeat to the All Blacks on Saturday.
Stuart Lancaster has just dropped a bollock of monumental proportions… Steffon Armitage overlooked yet again whilst the likes of James Haskell (step backwards) Tom Johnson (too old) and Matt Kvesic (Rubbish!) claim New Zealand tour spots. The first test is as good as lost already, it’ll improve when the Sarries and Saints players arrive in time for the second test but I thought we were building towards the WC and surely that means selecting the best players? Armitage is comfortably the best back row forward in Europe at the minute, ignoring him is ridiculous. In other news… Great to Ed Slater named in the touring party, as captain of one of Europe’s best sides he had to go. Not so sure about the inclusion of Geoff Parling (is he fit?) and as for Danny Cipriani… only time will tell, he’s had a fine season for Sale and has (hopefully) lost his enormous attitude. It’ll be interesting to see if he starts ahead of Freddie Burns.

ENGLAND TEAM UPDATE – Care replaces Youngs on bench 07 November 2013 Joe Marler, Dylan Hartley and David Wilson in to face Argentina Danny Care is on the bench after Ben Youngs failed late fitness test England will field a changed front row in Saturday’s QBE International against Argentina at Twickenham. Joe Marler, Dylan Hartley and David Wilson replace Mako Vunipola, Tom Youngs and Dan Cole against the Pumas. Cole and Youngs are included on an experienced replacements’ bench, which also sees the return of fellow British & Irish Lions Alex Corbisiero and Geoff Parling. Corbisiero has recovered from a knee injury while Parling is back after suffering mild concussion in the build up to the match against Australia. Photo: Getty Images Ben Foden is included on the left wing after Marland Yarde failed a late fitness test due to a hip injury, with Foden's move from the bench to the starting XV allows Alex Goode to take a place in the matchday squad. Alex Corbisiero and Geoff Parling are on course to return for England in Saturday's clash with Argentina.
England’s 23 for Australia: has Lancaster got it right? October 30, 2013 On Tuesday night, Stuart Lancaster announced his 23-man squad to take on Australia in the opening match of the QBE Internationals, and selection debates which have been ongoing for the last month have finally been put to bed. Thanks to injuries to stalwarts such as Manu Tuilagi and Brad Barritt, and the impressive form of a number of players on the cusp of the England’s first XV, this selection has felt like one of the most highly anticipated in recent years. The losses of both Alex Corbisiero (knee) and Geoff Parling (concussion) to injury have come at a bad time, but the silver lining is that both players are expected to recover in time for England’s second test of the series, when they take on Argentina at Twickenham. They also both play in positions of depth for England, and although they will be missed, there are other areas of the squad where injuries would arguably be more impactful. Mako Vunipola will be eager to replic ...
Joel Tomkins set for England debut but Geoff Parling out Rugby league convert Joel Tomkins is set for an England debut against Australia at Twickenham on Saturday - but head coach Stuart Lancaster will be without lock Geoff Parling. Uncapped Saracens centre Tomkins, who switched codes in 2011, has been retained in Lancaster's 23-man squad. But Lions second-row Parling suffered mild concussion during training on Tuesday and has been ruled out. Parling's absence means Courtney Lawes and Joe Launchbury are likely to start. England's autumn series England v Australia (14:30 GMT) - 2 November England v Argentina (14:30) -9 November England v New Zealand (14:30) - 16 November Bath's Dave Attwood, who only returned from a rib injury last week, will supply second-row cover from the bench for the opening autumn Test against the Wallabies. Leicester Tigers' Parling will stay with the squad, however, and is expected to return to training ahead of next week's Test against Argentina at Twickenham. Parling joins prop A ...

Team news: Ulster v Tigers 10 October 2013 12:00pmBy Gary SherrardMiles Benjamin, Leicester TigersTigers wing Miles Benjamin earns a place in the starting line-up in BelfastLeicester Tigers open their 17th European rugby season with a trip to face Ulster Rugby at Ravenhill in Belfast on Friday evening (8pm). Director of rugby Richard Cockerill makes three changes to the starting line-up from last Saturday with Miles Benjamin called in on the wing, Dan Bowden at centre and Geoff Parling resuming his place in the second row. Benjamin makes his Tigers debut after a successful return from injury and starts in place of Blaine Scully who took a heavy knock in the match against Northampton Saints last weekend. Bowden replaces Anthony Allen who has an ankle injury and Parling has recovered from injury to join Louis Deacon at lock with Graham Kitchener among the replacements. Former Waratahs centre Terrence Hepetema receives a first call-up to the matchday squad and is named among the replacements. Allen and Scull ...
Fanatics, My Lions/Wallabies XV of the series and why: 1 - Ben Robinson : We all know that scrumming is more about technique and grey matter then just physical brawn. Ben plays testimony to that. A wily old fox who was great in open play as well along with some nice pick and drives. Would make most international teams. 2 - Stephen Moore : The better hooker of the series especially if you consider the first 2 tests but Hibbard had his number in the third and certainly matched him for power and general open play. Why Hibbard did not start earlier we will never know. 3 - Adam Jones : One of the great 3's of the game. Huge experience and both him and Robinson went toe to toe, great battle to watch. Mr cool, calm and collective and a gentleman of the game. Very few left unfortunately IMHO. 4 - Alun Wyn Jones : I thought the Wallabies would have the adv here...boy I was wrong. Alun stood firm and his captaincy in the third test showed he was one of the unsung hero's in this bunch! 5 - Geoff Parling - It was a . ...

I'm disappointed by all the Welsh trying to get all the credit for today's substantial Lions victory against Australia. There were lots of English, Irish and Scottish players giving their all in the first two tests which were so very close. Surely we can all put our hands together to congratulate Jonny Sexton, Tommy Bowe, Geoff Parling, Sean O'Brien, Alex Corbisiero and the replacements who today achieved their life-long dream of finally getting a Welsh Cap! and playing alongside other Welsh greats like Leigh Halfpenny, Mike Phillips, George North, and of course the Rock that is Adam Jones!
Alex Corbisiero returns to the Official Lions Rugby test side for the third and deciding test! Geoff Parling and George North retain their places for the Sydney showdown. Alun Wyn Jones will lead the side. Manu Tuilagi is amongst the replacements alongside Tom Youngs, Dan Cole, Mako Vunipola and Owen Farrell. The team shows 6 changes from the second test.
Who from the 2013 Lions Tour will be on the 2017 One? I believe BOD, POC, Adam Jones, Gethin Jenkins, Mike Phillips, Tommy Bowe, Matt Stevens, Rory Best & maybe Geoff Parling won't be. Any one else agree?
Australia v Lions Second Test: Preview and Prediction Posted on Jun 28, 2013 After last week’s nerve-shredder in Brisbane, the sea of red rolls into Melbourne for the second and potentially series-defining test. If the first test was tense, this could be on another level. Both sides have made changes, enforced or otherwise, so there will be some new combinations on show. British and Irish Lions Warren Gatland has shown his ruthless side in making five changes to the side that won last weekend, with only two of these due to injury. Mako Vunipola comes onto the loose-head side of the scrum for the injured Corbisiero, with Geoff Parling in the engine room for Paul O’Connell. This should have a positive impact in the loose, with Vunipola’s rampaging ball-carrying, and at the line-out, where Parling is one of the shrewdest operators around. In the back row Dan Lydiate fills Tom Croft’s boots, possibly showing Gatland’s fear that without O’Connell and Corbisiero the pack is a bit lightweight – Lyd ...
Lions Squad Analysis for 2nd Test Posted on Jun 27, 2013 The old adage goes that ‘you should never change a winning team’ but clearly this message has been lost on Warren Gatland, who has made five changes to his test XV ahead of the second test on Saturday. In the forwards, Mako Vunipola and Geoff Parling have replaced Alex Corbisiero and Paul O’Connell, both of whom are injured, and Tom Croft, who drops to the bench, has been replaced by Dan Lydiate. In the backs, Ben Youngs and the fit-again Tommy Bowe are preferred to Mike Phillips and Alex Cuthbert, with the winger dropping to the bench at the expense of Sean Maitland. Vunipola was unlucky to miss out on a starting role in the first test after his imperious form in the warm-up games, but ultimately the decision to opt for Corbisiero, a more proficient scrummager, proved to be the right call. The question now is whether or not Gatland should have selected Ryan Grant, who takes his place on the bench, ahead of Vunipola, with the latter resuming h ...
Interesting Lions selection for second test! Scrum half Ben Youngs in for Mike Phillips who is not even on the bench, winger Tommy Bowe for Alex Cuthbert, flanker Dan Lydiate for Tom Croft and second row Geoff Parling and prop Vunipola replacing the injured Paul O Connell and Alex Corbisero! History beckons on Saturday! Windsor RFC was rammed last Saturday and great atmosphere! Club opens from 10am for breakfast with KO at 11am. Needless to say the bar is open.
Huge congrats England's starters for 2nd Test in Melbourne: Tom Youngs, Geoff Parling and
British & Irish Lions O’Connell ruled out of test series with broken arm Posted on Jun 24, 2013 | 0 comments O'connell Ireland lock Paul O’Connell has been ruled out of the rest of the test series with a broken arm. It is a huge blow for the tourists, who lose a priceless source of on-field leadership. O’Connell was set to feature in his eighth straight Lions test, but instead will watch from the stands. There is no plan to call up a replacement at this stage. Geoff Parling has been stood down from the Rebels match and is likely to take O’Connell’s place in the test side – Ian Evans comes into the line-up for Tuesday, with Tom Croft onto the bench. Flanker Dan Lydiate will captain the side. British and Irish Lions (revised) vs Melbourne Rebels: 15 Rob Kearney, 14 Sean Maitland, 13 Manu Tuilagi, 12 Brad Barritt, 11 Simon Zebo, 10 Owen Farrell, 9 Conor Murray, 8 Toby Faletau, 7 Sean O’Brien, 6 Dan Lydiate (c), 5 Ian Evans, 4 Richie Gray, 3 Dan Cole, 2 Richard Hibbard, 1 Ryan Grant. Congratulations to Official Leicester Tigers lock Geoff Parling who will lead the British & Irish Lions against Melbourne Rebels on Tuesday at AAMI Park. There are 5 Aviva Premiership based players in the starting XV and 4 amongst the substitutes.
in my opinion as a avid rugby fan my starting 15 for the lions v australia should be the following: 15: Leigh Halfpenny, 14: Simon Zebo, 13: Brian O' Driscoll, 12: Manu Tuilagi, 11: George North, 10: Johnny Sexton 09: Mike Phillips, 01: Mako Vunipola, 02: Tom Youngs, 03: Adam Jones, 04: Geoff Parling, 05: Paul O'Connell, 06: Tom Croft, 07: Sam Warburton (c) 08: Jamie Heaslip... * This is take into account jamie roberts not being fit on saturday and also i think Justin Tipuric should be playing over Sam Warburton but sam is the captain so not going to happen.. Come on U Lions!

Stoop to conquer While you've all been getting your breath back after a fantastic fortnight of Six Nations action, I've been on the hunt for the best bets ahead of this weekend's Aviva Premiership fixtures. The big match on Saturday sees the top two in the table going head-to-head as Harlequins welcome Leicester Tigers to the Twickenham Stoop. Second-placed Quins start the game as marginal favourites due to home advantage, however I fancy Leicester to nick this one and increase their lead at the top. The Tigers welcome back England trio Toby Flood, Manu Tuilagi and Thomas Waldrom, while four players; Tom and Ben Youngs, Geoff Parling and Dan Cole remain in the England camp. Lions Watch. Another good showing from Hogg and Beattie. Geoff Parling must come into the mix too. Coombs tackled anything that moved and made inroads himself. Six Nations Preview and Prediction: England Home ground: Twickenham, London Coach: Stuart Lancaster Strengths: One of England’s great strengths is the structure they bring to their game. They may not have the counter-attacking ability of the French, but they have a way of building the phases until they find themselves in a dangerous position. Whilst they haven’t always possessed the composure necessary to finish teams off when in these positions, it is encouraging nevertheless that they are getting themselves there. They also have the makings of a world-class front five. If all fit, a line-up of Corbisiero, Hartley, Cole, Parling and Launchbury would truly be up there with the best. All these players have plenty of years at the top level left in them, and with the likes of Tom Youngs and Mako Vunipola breaking onto the scene the future looks rosy in this area.
