General Motors finds a new use for used Chevy Volt batteries
Amazing world of Jelani Alliyu, Nigerian top car designer for General Motors Jelani Aliyu, a Nigerian from Sokoto State, is US auto giant General Motors Senior Creative Designer. He designed the world acclaimed Chevy Volt which has been described as an American Revolution and hottest concept in automobile design line. According to the company's New York office release, "GM`s most electrifying advanced technology vehicle is the Chevrolet Volt concept, a battery- powered, extended-range electric passenger vehicle." In his paper delivered at the conference of Nigerians in Diaspora Organization, NIDO, Canada, entitled Role of Educated Youth in 3Ps and Entrepreneurship, the designer of the state-of-the-art electric car for General Motors, the world’s largest automobile makers, paints a picture that says nothing is impossible to achieve once your mind is fully set; Excerpts: We must never underestimate the amazing power of human imagination, the ability to envision that which does not yet exist. Eric Bolling (Fox Business Channel's Follow the Money) test drove the Chevy Volt at the invitation of General Motors...and he writes... For four days in a row, the fully charged battery lasted only 25 miles before the Volt switched to the reserve gasoline engine. Eric calculated the car got 30 mpg including the 25 miles it ran on the battery. So, the range including the 9 gallon gas tank and the 16 kwh battery is approximately 270 miles. It will take you 4 1/2 hours to drive 270 miles at 60 mph. Then add 10 hours to charge the battery and you have a total trip time of 14.5 hours. In a typical road trip your average speed (including charging time) would be 20 mph. According to General Motors, the Volt battery holds 16 kwh of electricity. It takes a full 10 hours to charge a drained battery. The cost for the electricity to charge the Volt is never mentioned so I looked up what I pay for electricity. I pay approximately (it varies with amount used and the seasons) $1.16 per kwh. 16 kwh x $1.16 per kwh = $18. ...

NOT AN ALMAJIRI SCHOOL... Many Nigerians have distinguished themselves in scholarship in foreign lands so much so that they are holding one strategic offices or the other in their adopted countries in the United States of America, Europe and Asia. One of them happens to be the Sokoto State- born automobile designer, Mr. Jelani Aliyu, who works with one of the biggest car manufacturing firms in the world – General Motors. Few months back in far away New York, in the USA, stories in the mass media filtered in that this gentleman from Sokoto State, North-West Nigeria, has been credited with achieving a revolution in car designing going by the fact that he recently designed a state-of-the-art electric car beautifully named Chevy Volt. This achievement by this young Sokoto boy was made at the General Motors plant in Detroit, the United States of America. When this beautiful news broke, I ran into the Sokoto State Governor, Alhaji Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, somewhere in the nation’s capital and one of the i ...

General Motors is knocking $5,000 off the price of a new Chevy Volt. $GM
Don't look now, but a price war is breaking out in the electric-car market. The latest move comes from General Motors (NYSE: GM ) , which is boosting incentives on its Chevy Volt amid rising inventories of the innovative plug-in hybrid sedan. GM last week began offering big discounts of $10,000 or more on Volts, hoping to clear out an inventory that has swelled to 140 selling days' worth; 60 days' worth of inventory is considered healthy. Volt sales have been down in each of the last three months. While political controversies have followed the car since its launch, there's nothing wrong with the Volt itself: It's a very nice sedan with some of the highest owner-satisfaction ratings in the auto business. If you want a comfortable commuter car that is exceptionally easy on gas, you could do a lot worse. So why isn't it selling better? Will price cuts be enough to boost sales? The Volt is just the latest in a round of electric-car discounts that started when Nissan (NASDAQOTH: NSANY ) slashed the price of . ...

Sales rose nearly 8 percent at Hyundai despite the news that it overstated gas mileage on some models. Demand for the Chevy Volt fell off after record sales in October, and GM cited an inventory problem. Co ...

General Motors is not out of the woods as Obama mighty like everyone to believe. They lost heavily on the Chevy Volt as it flopped, and I personally know someone that lost her job after Obama bailed them out, as well as several plants completely closed down. They would have been better off with a filing bankruptcy and financially reorganizing. As it is now, Obama has turned the company over to the Big Union Bosses.
Yesterday, General Motors announced it will be running a ‘customer satisfaction program’ for some 4,000 2013 Chevrolet Volts to fix a software glitch that could cause the car’s electric motor to power down while driving. In other words, GM is asking all 2013 Chevy Volt owners to...
President Obama brags about saving General Motors by a Government bailout. Obama worked with the United Auto Workers union to take GM through a government bailout and bankruptcy. It is good that GM is still in business but is only again kicking the can down the road. Because of the Union little was done to cut GM's labor coasts. Company executives still have their Company jets. and GM still owes the Government $26.000.000.000. Thousands of people that owned General Motors bonds, lost millions of dollars in their investment. Obama gave $150.000.000 of of Taxpayer money to a Company to make batteries for the Chevy Volt. So far they haven't produced one battery but the company is paying workers $50.00 of taxpayer money an hour to watch movies and play checkers and Monopoly. The Chevy Volt's production has stopped because of low sales. Because GM has not done anything to lower manufacturing costs it will probably go into bankruptcy again in a couple of years.

A Volt in every driveway? The 23 million unemployed and underemployed Americans must be wondering about all the fuss over a $40,000 plug-in hybrid car. Hoping to turn that fuss into sales, General Motors cut the sticker price on its Chevy Volt by 25 percent. With an array of government subsidies and tax credits for GM and its suppliers -- and even a hefty tax credit for buyers - - the Volt has literally been willed into existence. With the nation awash in cheap natural gas, it seems like an odd time to throw money at an electric car. We really can live without a Volt in every driveway
One example of how government handouts don't make private sector business successful. The huge Michigan battery plant supposed to make batteries for the failing Chevy Volt hasn't made one battery since opening two years ago. From Fox News "President Obama touted it in 2010 as evidence "manufacturing jobs are coming back to the United States,” but two years later, a Michigan hybrid battery plant built with $150 million in taxpayer funds is putting workers on furlough before a single battery has been produced. Workers at the Compact Power manufacturing facilities in Holland, Mich., run by LG Chem, have been placed on rotating furloughs, working only three weeks per month based on lack of demand for lithium-ion cells. The facility, which was opened in July 2010 with a groundbreaking attended by Obama, has yet to produce a single battery for the Chevrolet Volt, the troubled electric car from General Motors. The plant's batteries also were intended to be used in Ford's electric Focus. Production of the taxpa ...

I just read an ad about how Chevy LOSES $49,000 on every VOLT they sell. My question is: WHY IS THE CHEVY VOLT STILL ON THE MARKET AND BEING SOLD THEN? GM doesnt stand for General Motors anymore, it stands for Government Motors. American taxpayers own GM. Therefore, every time someone buys a new Chevy VOLT, they just cost the American taxpayers, their neighbors, $49,000. Got a neighbor who just bought a new Chevy VOLT? PLEASE GO THANK HIM FOR ME BY KICKING HIM IN THE BALLS.

Barack Obama invested BILLIONS of OUR dollars to bail out General Motors. They are producing the Chevy Volt at a loss of about $40,000 per CAR. Mitt Romney created Bain Capital with his blood, sweat and tears. Bain Companies helped create hundreds of thousands of jobs. Because Mitt's associations are successful. Where do you want to invest your children's future?

Mike Allen We have been told that one of the possible campaign memes for the upcoming general election in November would be, "Osama Bin Laden is dead, and General Motors is alive." So what have we learned within the last two weeks? Barack Obama actually served to hinder the efforts to take out Osama Bin Laden. Those of us with actual knowledge of economics or with actual business acumen could also have told you that GM would have not only survived a bankruptcy, but would have emerged as a stronger company than what it is today. Something else to consider, There are currently 19 major auto manufacturers building cars in America today. 17 of those companies are not called GM, Ford, or Chrysler. What GM does prove however is that it is the production of wealth which drives our economy, and not some magical jump start of spending. GM builds cars no one wants because the government has graciously forked over $200,000 per Chevy Volt sold. GM collects its $35,000 from some lucky consumer who has purchased a crap ...

Tony Posawatz, the former head of the Volt program at General Motors, has been named the new CEO of Fisker, as the automaker hunkers down on development of its second model, the Fisker Atlantic.
Since sales began in December 2010, a total of 18,663 Volts have been sold in the U.S. through July 2012.[155][156][157] The top 10 selling states during the first quarter of 2012 were California, Michigan, Florida, Illinois, Texas, New York, Minnesota, Ohio, North Carolina and Maryland. California is the leading market and accounted for almost 23% of Volt sales during this quarter, followed by Michigan with 6.3% of national sales. In California the leading regional markets are San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego, all metropolitan areas notorious for their high congestion levels and where free access to high-occupancy lanes for solo drivers has been a strong incentive to boost Volt sales in the state.[158] In 2009, the Presidential Task Force on the Auto Industry said that "GM is at least one generation behind Toyota on advanced, “green” powertrain development. In an attempt to leapfrog Toyota, GM has devoted significant resources to the Chevy Volt." and that "while the Chevy Volt holds promise, ...

General Motors is imploding Note: This first appeared in the PJ Tatler. Last week we cataloged how much General Motors (GM) likes firing people. As we pointed out, 2009 was not a good year if you were a Republican-donating GM or Chrysler dealer. (M)ultiple dealers who have been closed are found to have contributed millions to Republicans and mere hundreds to Obama…. “It became clear to us that Chrysler does not see the wisdom of terminating 25 percent of its dealers. It really wasn’t Chrysler’s decision. They are under enormous pressure from the President (Obama)’s automotive task force,” said attorney Leonard Bellavia. The $82 billion automotive bailout was supposed to “create or save” American jobs. But this Republican hunt killed 100,000 gigs right out of the gate. Concerns that Chevrolet Cruzes could catch fire have caused General Motors (GM) to recall more than 475,000 of the popular compact sedans, the automaker said Friday... All (Cruze) cars manufactured from September 2010 to May of this year are subject to the recall. Already getting Chevy Volt flashbacks? Of course you are. In January, GM “called back” every single Volt ever sold in the U.S., to fix the (fire problem on the) allegedly already “fixed” battery…. It’s important for a company to create a branding identity--something all its products possess as an underlying, unifying theme. GM has successfully identified and implemented theirs: combustibility. And this is not the first Cruze recall. First, 2,100 Cruzes were recalled when steering wheels started spontaneously falling off. But that was just the tip of the Titanic ...

Did you know that the budget the president sent to Congress includes a $10,000 subsidy to GM for every Chevy Volt they produce? The average Volt buyer has a household income of $175,000 a year. However the budget does NOT include funding for the shool choice program for Washington DC residents, even though providing tuition help tp private scools actially costs LESS per student that DC spends on those going to public schools. Student pefomance is show to be better and these kids are from homes making far less that 175K. It's all designed to aid the unions, not individual families. Obama already gave General Motors to the UAW while not paying corporate bondholders anything back on their investments. And the teachers' union does not like school choice. So who exactly does he care about?

1) Obama touts General Motors as a success story. If that were true, General Motors would have made a profit without taxpayers losing 14 billion dollars on the deal while GM received a special 45 billion dollar tax break. 2) Obama spent hundreds of millions in taxpayer dollars to promote the Chevy Volt and said he had a goal of seeing a million electric cars in the U.S. by 2015. If that was going to happen, Volts would be flying off the showroom floor as opposed to the meager 7,700 that were sold last year -- before production was halted this year.
