Gene Hackman & Crimson Tide
Eugene Allen Gene Hackman (born January 30, 1930) is a retired American actor and novelist. Crimson Tide is a 1995 submarine film directed by Tony Scott, produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer, and written by Michael Schiffer and Richard P. /5
Gene Hackman Crimson Tide Denzel Washington Tony Scott James Gandolfini Top Gun Viggo Mortenson Tony Soprano Mississippi Burning Colin Powell Robert Redford United States Denzil Washington Lynyrd Skynyrd Rush Limbaugh Jack Russells Jamarcus Russell Sean Hannity
Having a Gene Hackman evening with Jane! Just watched Crimson Tide, following it up with Mississippi Burning!
My favorite part of the day. Right here, right now (Ditto Gene Hackman in Crimson Tide). Rise & Shine.…
Watching one of my favorite movies now, Crimson Tide. Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman.
Totally forgot James Gandolfini was in Crimson Tide with Gene Hackman and Denzel Washington. Man this movie was kick *** !
Crimson Tide another awesome Gene Hackman film. Probably one of my favorite actors ever.
Wait, Denzel's char salutes Gene Hackman's violent, racist, arrogant commander at the end of Crimson Tide? The Navy is weird sometimes.
Fed mom cheese enchiladas and watched the first half of "Crimson Tide" before she nodded off. Put her and her dog to bed- only to have her get up an hour later asking if "all that company" had gone home. I informed her that Gene Hackman and Denzel had prior plans and that seemed to satisfy her. There by the grace of god...
"Crimson Tide".on now.. Never gets old, and the chops of Gene Hackman, and Denzel Washington."clinic"
I love the movie Crimson Tide with Gene Hackman and Denzel Washington!
Watching "Crimson Tide" with Danzel Washington and Gene Hackman!! Oldie but definetly a goodie !!!
Watching (again) the movie "Crimson Tide" on TNT...the Russians are threatening to launch nuclear missiles at the U.S. and Japan. Navy personnel are preparing to ship out on the submarine U.S.S. Alabama. The captain (Gene Hackman) is addressing his men before boarding ship and the end cheer is "Go Bama...Roll Tide!" Gotta love it!!
War is a continuation of politics by other means. Carl Von Clausewitz, quoted by Gene Hackman in "Crimson Tide"
"Crimson Tide" starring Gene Hackman and Denzel Washington aboard the USS Alabama seems to me to be an analogy of the USA military as we speak, and to a lesser extent the American nation.
Crimson Tide is a cracking film great performances from Gene Hackman and Denzel
Gene Hackman in Crimson Tide is nearly as good as Sean Connery in The Rock.. well play channel 5
I've instinctively hated Gene Hackman since Crimson Tide was released on VHS
Just watched part of “Crimson Tide” was that you with Gene Hackman holding a gun too your head? If so, friggin cool, Hackman! 😜
i forgot how good a movie Crimson Tide is. It doesn't get better than Gene Hackman & Denzel Washington.
With the passing of James Gandolfini, I'm reminded (not being a big Saprano's fan) of Crimson Tide, which is probably one of my earliest and fondest memories of him--as well as Viggo Mortenson. It remains a great thriller (having Gene Hackman in the cast doesn't hurt) and I think it deserves the attention of Andy's Movie Minute--Andy being a Navy man and all.
As a homage to James Gandolfini, I spent my first summer holiday afternoon watching "The Last Castle" in which he co-stars with Robert Redford; and "Crimson Tide" starring Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman with Gandolfini in a major supporting role. He was a fine actor in every part he played, and all the tributes today said that he was an incredibly nice person to everyone he worked with and a true friend. Oh that they could say that about all of us after we are gone. lb
Gandolfini was also in Crimson Tide with Denzel & Gene Hackman. He played the Sgt. at arms and sided with hackman about the nukes
Crimson Tide with James Gandolfini, Vigo Mortenson, Denzel, Gene Hackman... that was a good one
prior to the success of the Sopranos, I remember James Gandolfini (rip) apart of the Crimson Tide cast with Gene Hackman & Denzel Washington
James Gandolfini. Dead at 51! One of my favorite of his early roles was in Crimson Tide with Denzel Washington, Gene Hackman, Viggo Mortensen, et al. Unbelievable. RIP Tony Soprano.
RIP James Gandolfini.Tony Soprano was my all time favorite TV character,as The Sopranos was my favorite show of the 2000s and in my top 5 ever.I guess now we know what happens when Don't Stop Believing stops abruptly.Tony dies...I'm really upset by this for some reason. I guess I always figured there would be a movie to tie it up. But more so,he was a great actor. Loved his *** hitman in the Mexican opposite Julia Roberts and Brad Pitt. And his naval officer opposite Gene Hackman and Denzel Washington in Crimson Tide.
Gandolfini may have been known for the Sopranos, but was also an awesome bad guy in Crimson Tide w/ Gene Hackman and Denzel Washington
First James Gandolfini movie I saw: Crimson Tide! With Denzel and Gene Hackman and a bunch of other actors from a bunch of other stuff.
Always loved Gandolfini in Crimson Tide with Denzel & Gene Hackman (see 1:15 here He will be missed.
That's sad Tony Soprano died, was really looking forward to more Sopranos some day, despite the fact he helped upset the mutiny against Gene Hackman when Denzel Washington took over the sub in Crimson Tide!
James Gandolfini was also loyal to Gene Hackman in "Crimson Tide." RIP.
he was also an Officer with and Gene Hackman in Crimson Tide.
Stunned... James Gandolfini dead of a heart attack. My fav Gandolfini movie Crimson Tide. Denzel Washington & Gene Hackman who?
Not Tony Soprano! Man oh man, this was a bad wednesday. RIP James Gandolfini. Love him, the star-studded cast in 'Crimson Tide' movie with Denzel and Gene Hackman! One of my very fav all-time films! MUTINY on the U.S.S Alabama submarine which could've lead to nuclear war! The tension jumps out the screen.
Loved James Gandolfini in Crimson Tide. Played the loyal officer to Gene Hackman to a T. I remember and I were both in awe.
Personally, I liked Gandolfini best in Crimson Tide. And Gene Hackman looked 70 in that movie
What Is Going In America's Military? I remember a quote from Gene Hackman in the movie, "Crimson Tide." He said, "Commander, we defend democracy. We don't practice it." He was talking to Denzel Washington. I love military moves such as, "Heartbreak Ridge, The Longest Day, Delta Force, The Dirty Dozen, and Missing in Action." I am retired veteran of the United States and I do not what's going on today. If you are a Conservative or a Republican, you will be targeted in the military. You have superior officers tellings you that you can't read books written by Mark Levin, Rush Limbaugh, or Sean Hannity. Why? There is an anti-Republican, Tea Party, and Christian agenda in the military. You will get punished if you desecrate the quran, but not the Bible. It is a shame to see what's happening. What is going on? To be continued...
Going home to watch this tonite about the Lippizaners. But it brings to mind a scene from the movie Crimson Tide, a dialogue btwn Gene Hackman's character and Denzel Washington's. Gene's attempt to show his superiority (& bigotry towards) over Denzel, he brings up the topic of the horses: Capt. Ramsey (Hackman): Speaking of horses did you ever see those Lipizzaner stallions. Hunter (Washington): What? Capt. Ramsey: From Portugal. The Lipizzaner stallions. The most highly trained horses in the world. They're all white? Hunter: Yes, sir. Capt. Ramsey: "Yes, sir" you're aware they're all white or "Yes, sir" you've seen them? Hunter: Yes, sir I've seen them. Yes, sir I was aware that they're are all white. They are not from Portugal; they're from Spain and at birth, they're not white; they're black. Sir.
Crimson Tide, heard lots about it. What a film! Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman fighting over whether to launch nukes at Russia.
Ahh The Poseidon Adventure, Gene Hackman in arguably his 2nd best ever performance. The best of course being Crimson Tide.
"Perfect time for a drill." Gene Hackman as Capt. Frank Ramsey, "Crimson Tide," 1995

Running on the treadmill and Crimson Tide comes on...its no wonder I ran for an hour today...motivating movie!
"Crimson Tide"...Gene Hackman was correct. Last order in hand was to launch. Although Denzel was vindicated in the end, the missiles should have flown given the circumstances.
Didn't know this...sounds like a Russian version of the Denzel Washington/Gene Hackman movie, Crimson Tide. James Gandolfini was in that one also...
Relaxing with burgers and movies. Going to make it a Gene Hackman night and go with Crimson Tide and Enemy of the State. What a great weekend!
If Denzel Washington only won one Oscar in his life, it should have been for Flight rather than Training Day. Moreover, he was better in Crimson Tide than he was in TD.
Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor disguises himself as Crimson Tide.
So a long day gets longer. Crashed sailed cause some one got through the net. Cue crimson tide Gene Hackman speech "there's trouble in Russia, little ducks. So they called us" char!
Crimson Tide [Region 2]: You can almost hear the studio pitch meeting echoing throughout Crimson Tide like the...
How long until Gene Hackman dies in Crimson Tide?
" I don't trust air I can't see" - Gene Hackman in Crimson Tide, smoking a on a submarine.
Crimson Tide - that was the film I was trying to think of earlier. And it does star Gene Hackman and Densel
I was watching a movie on youtube "Crimson Tide". It is about submarine. Starring Gene Hackman and Dezel Washington.
Watching the powerhouse of a movie, Crimson Tide yet again. Doesn't get more real than Gene 'the hack' Hackman squaring off against the 'D' dAwG, Denzel Washington. Dont believe me? stick this quote in your pipe and smoke it! "I don't trust air I can't see" BAM
Crimson Tide with Denzel Washington & Gene Hackman...still a *** good movie, no matter how many times I've seen it!
"We're here to preserve democracy, not practice it" - Gene Hackman to Denzel Washington, Crimson Tide. Sounds like foreign and domestic U.S. policy at present...
Crimson Tide. Monster performances by Gene Hackman and Denzel Washington, great early showing by Viggo Mortenson. Incredible, tense, testosterone-laden script. Not to mention, incredibly directed. RIP Tony Scott.
Crimson Tide is the best submarine movie ever made. The clash of will between Denzel and Gene Hackman is so *** epic
"Don't like (cigars) too much. They're more expensive than drugs." Gene Hackman in Crimson Tide
Crimson Tide: The day director Tony Scott died left me so down, like :( down. Undoubtably one of the greatest action directors ever, he had a unique style that was fast and kinetic. This movie is one of his best and knows how to rack up intensity with out gunfire and constant explosions. When a Russian radicalist steals a bunch of nuclear weapons, a submarine, captained by Gene Hackman and Denzel Washington, is sent to the coast of East Asia to support the fighting forces. When complications arise concerning unloading their nuclear missiles, the chain of command on the sub is tested in a race to see if World War 3 will begin or not. The plot is very engaging and gets more tense later. Hackman and Washington are very excellent in their roles and they have a good rival chemistry thats just so cool. The dialogue on the main and side characters almost feels like "Top Gun" but with slightly more sophistication. The movie isn't a wall-to-wall actionfest like "Top Gun", but it makes up for it with intense pacing ...
With Gene Hackman in this, we can see that we are in the time zone for these events, or close to it because of the appearance of Mitt and Ann Romney. Vietnam is known for its tunnel rats (ton L rats). In this film, you will see a blooper (on purpose most likely) regarding "North of Galveston Texas" - see the landscape. Also, you must see the satellite image at the beginning, freeze frame it. The upcoming attack, I believe, will include a communications attack. This could be in the form of incorrect Pentagon orders to ships as well as mass propaganda, and/or black outs. I need to watch Crimson Tide again for the EAM coding. There is also something going on with NORAD that I get from this film, not sure exactly what or if it is more commo errors, such as or similar to what happened during 9-11 - "they are in there". Not sure what that means exactly, they could be spying on them.
Watching "Crimson Tide". Good movie led by 2 fabulous actors.Gene Hackman and Denzel Washington.
The only good Crimson Tide is the movie with Gene Hackman and Denzel Wasshington.just sayin..
Oh man, go Crimson Tide! Wait what? Oh no, I'd just set aside tonight to go through my favorite Tony Scott-directed submarine drama starring Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman. This movie has just lost none of its impact since its 1995 release, and I just had to tell someone.
The next time I watch Crimson Tide the film I will hate Gene Hack an ever so slightly more for Jason Hoschouer. But I never liked his little rat dog. Not Jason's.
Thanx but this was my adaptation of a dialogue by actor Gene Hackman to Denzel Washington in movie Crimson Tide. I liked it.
DVD for today is Crimson Tide. Great movie and great cast. Gene Hackman, Denzel Washington etc Much better than crap on TV.
Crimson Tide (1995) Jingoistic nonsense aside, still a class movie. Gene Hackman ridiculously good.
Just watched The Hunt For Red October, waited for Gene Hackman to appear. Turns out he's in Crimson Tide. D'oh.
Gene Hackman's role in Crimson Tide is by far one his best performances.
A sly performance from Gene Hackman in "Crimson Tide" but the premise-the incomplete message-seems contrived, and GH too obtuse about it.
Crimson Tide is a badass movie. Gene Hackman is a *** in it though.
It's the Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman thriller "Crimson Tide" on An Officer and a Movie at 8/7c.
I am watching "Crimson Tide" for the first time, and being reminded that Gene Hackman is the Joe Biden of movies.
Watching "Crimson Tide" with Gene Hackman and Densel Washington. Reminds of the days setting sail with "Psycho Pete" ... I remember my squadron doctor telling me "he is certifiable but the squadron commander can't relieve him because there are not enough qualified C.O.s" . Ah the good old days.
Crimson Tide, one awesome movie with two great actors, two of my favorites really. Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman.
Two JRT's are a blast. Twice as nice, they are getting along great, So much fun, I think I got a couple of circus dogs here. I think I'm going to need some new track shoes to keep up. I luv JRT's, smartest dogs in the world according to Gene Hackman in Crimson Tide.
The 2012 Presidential Election reminds me of the movie " Crimson Tide ". Denzel Washington vs Gene Hackman.
Watching " Crimson Tide". Don't you just love Denzel Washington and G.ene Hackman!
aw crap! Tonite AMC TV channel is showing Crimson Tide (you know Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman in the submarine) with Colin Powell commercials endorsing obama.and they call me racist for not being colored blind!!!
Yay my movie's on.. Crimson Tide.. I love Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman.. Good old 1995 movie... Good night this girl has a movie to watch.
Another Gene Hackman classic is on."Mississippi Burning"! Right up there with "Hoosiers" and "Crimson Tide"!
Figured I would relax some today and watch Crimson Tide with Gene Hackman and Denzel Washington. Then going to finish up my homework and do a load of laundry. Then it's off to go get my boy from CDC and shoot some hoops with him and run the track. What a day! Have a great day everyone!!!
A list of my dislikes during Bama hate week: Bama jelly, the movie "Crimson Tide", Gene Hackman, the color red, any pachyderm (sorry, rhinoceri), the cast of MTV's "Two-a-Days", any song mentioning anything pertaining to Alabama, Lynyrd Skynyrd, the word "roll", houndstooth, anyone who has ever uttered the words "rammer" and "jammer" or "rawl" and "tahd" in immediate succession, "tide" laundry detergent (I'll wash my colors with bleach before I use it), Jamarcus Russell's chain, fedoras, Jimmy Buffet (sorry, Rusty), and last, but not least, Forrest effing Gump. GEAUX TIGERS
Movie for today: Crimson Tide. High intensity mutiny thriller with solid performances from Gene Hackman and Denzel Washington.
You gonna so love it. This is classic Gene Hackman - a performance he bettered in 'Crimson Tide' :)
Imagine mentally in a crisis, he'd be like the unhinged submarine captain that Gene Hackman played in the movie "Crimson Tide"
Just finished watching 'Crimson Tide' for the umpteenth time. After everything happens in the movie, Capt. Ramsey has only to say about some breed of horses. "You were right, I was wrong. The Lippizaner horses, they are from Spain, not Portugal." Please watch the movie and get the drift. There will be very few, fine movies and fine actors, doing justice to that last line. My salute to Gene Hackman.
Snap Judgment Last Resort: I can only assume Shield creator Shawn Ryan was watching Crimson Tide and thought "What if Gene Hackman had sided with Denzel and they all went rogue?" Then he went from 0 to about 300 miles an hour in setting up this plot about a boomer (nuclear powered sub) that goes rogue and takes over a Pacific island after they mutiny against an order to bomb Pakistan and are fired on themselves. The plot is certainly audacious, even if it requires an enormous suspension of disbelief. More disconcerting is that the show fails to catch the vibe of a naval vessel (Battleship, for all its flaws, was much better in this respect). Further, Andre Braugher's character goes from 0-300 mph nearly as fast as Shawn Ryan: the show seems to be attempting a Battlestar Galactica vibe in terms of a crew on the brink, but the show is in such a rush to establish its backstory that the characters aren't fleshed out enough to understand their motivations (BSG had the luxury of an entire miniseries to do so). ...
I think they purposely do that so to not give away all truths. like Gene Hackman bringing his dog on board in Crimson Tide
Holy crap Crimson Tide is awesome. A story where the captain of the submarine USS Alabama (Gene Hackman) and his executive officer (Denzel Washington) having differing leadership styles leads to a clash of wills during a crisis with the possibility of nuclear war in the balance. Intelligent, intense and some fine, fine acting especially from Denzel Washington makes this one of the best movies in a naval setting I've seen.
Crimson Tide.old classic 2of the best actors of all time Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman
Gene Hackman doesn't get enough credit as one of our great American actors -- Crimson Tide, Mississippi Burning, Unforgiven, Hoosiers, Superman, A Bridge Too Far, French Connection, The Quick and the Dead, etc. etc. etc.
Why is so many people so worried about Iran making "1" bomb? I am not at all worried. We can have 1 ballistic missile submarine in the Persian Gulf, opening 10 of it's 20 launch doors, blowing Iran straight to Mars before they get 1 rocket in the air. I remember the movie "Crimson Tide", Gene Hackman's character saying, "Attention USS Alabama. Set condition 1SQ for strategic missile launch. Spin off missiles 1-5 and 20-24. The use of nuclear weapons has been authorized". Between that sub and the satellites we have have watching Iran...
Crimson Tide. Gotta be Tony Scott's best acted film. Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman give an acting masterclass.
"I would loved to have seen Montana." -- Gene Hackman (Russian accent), from Crimson Tide
When Biden has on those navy baseball hats... He looks like Gene Hackman in Crimson Tide...
Watching "Crimson Tide" on AMC; one of the cinema gems the late, great Tony Scott gave us, and I wonder if our military ever gave Gene Hackman some honorary, for all the great portrayals of military men he's given us.
Watching "Crimson Tide" still love how intense this move is. Gene Hackman is still a jerk!
Too bad BO is apparently moving his speech inside. I was hoping for Tony Scott-esque rain speech; Gene Hackman in Crimson Tide anyone?
Just finished watching "Crimson Tide", Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman!! Such great actors...and a super Submarine Navy movie!! AMC now has "The Last of the Mohicans" on...and reading "The Lost Symbol"!!
Jonathan Byers FYI: Crimson Tide is on AMC at 8pm with Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman. :) Have a great week!!
Gene Hackman and Denzel Washington are so good in Crimson Tide. Love this movie.
I'm realizing that this movie Crimson Tide is a lot of ways parallel to the current state of today's politics. Denzel Washington's character is a lot of ways similar to Barack Obama. And Gene Hackman's character is in some ways similar to John Boehner. Comment if allyuh want me to elaborate more on this metaphor.
In the movie Crimson Tide, Gene Hackman states the SSBN Ohio class subs are THE largest subs ever built. His enigmatic strongarm character portrayal really is woven into the story fairly well. The script writer needs to be shot for so blatant a forthright statement after the fact since no attempt was made to verify facts. The Russian Typhoon class is the largest.
Check out: "Rebound" now showing on BET, starring: Martin Lawrence and Wendy Racquel Robinson. "Crimson Tide" Now showing on AMC, starring: Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman. "Drumline" showing on VH1, starring: Nick Cannon and Zoe Saldana.
watching Crimson Tide. (You know you're getting old when you pretty much agree with Gene Hackman throughout.)
Gene Hackman got it right in Crimson Tide when he said 'Jack Russells are the smartest dogs in the world' IMO also the best!!
Crimson Tide is awesome. Gene Hackman is the best.
listening to Gene Hackman's speech from "Crimson Tide" has me ready for saturday
Easy to forget how good Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman are in Crimson Tide. Great movie.
Gene Hackman is so awesome in Crimson Tide.
Yeah, director of Top Gun also. He was severely sick though. I remember Crimson Tide now. Denzel and Gene Hackman.
Just watched Crimson Tide in honour of Tony Scott. Great film. Gene Hackman is brilliant!
Crimson Tide time!!! Denzel, Gene Hackman, Zimmer and an immense thriller! Love an impromptu film watch
Daughter tucked up in bed, wife at work. Its Gene Hackman and Denzil Washington for me in Crimson Tide. James Gandolfini an added bonus.
I can't see Gene Hackman anymore w/out thinking about the sub launch scene in "Crimson Tide". What do we say?!?
Am I the only person who thinks of Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman every time I read "Crimson Tide"? (RIP Tony Scott)
and let's face it Operation Petticoat a whole other kinda film. Crimson Tide one of Gene Hackman's finest roles too.
I like how Gene Hackman's wearing Tony Scott's trademark red baseball cap in "Crimson Tide." Nice touch.
Tony Scott, film director, left us on Sunday, aged 68...his name wont mean much to most of you, so, let me list some of the films he directed...most, not critically acclaimed, but all huge moneymakers..."Top Gun" w/Kelly McGillis, Tom Cruise, and Val Kilmer..."Crimson Tide" w/"Denzel" n Gene Hackman.."True Romance" w/ Patricia Arquette n Christian Slater..."Beat the Devil" w/Clive Owen and Gary Oldman.."Enemy of the State" w/Will Smith..well, u get the pic...seems that he was diagnosed w/inoperable brain cancer, and, choosing not to become an invalid, or a burden to his family, he jumped off a bridge in San Pedro, CA. Sun night...RIP, Mr. Scott...thanks for your body of work...and peace to your family...you did what you thought was best...who are we to judge...just saying
Tony Scott's Top Gun yesterday and Crimson Tide today. Just remembered why the Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman flick is one of my faves.
Two thoughts upon revisiting Crimson Tide: 1. It would make a heck of a play. 2. I wish Gene Hackman would come out of retirement.
Crimson Tide. Denzel and Gene Hackman. Power combo both of them. Tension right until the end
forgot bout that one. Crimson Tide when he has the argument with Gene Hackman quality!
Gene Hackman in Crimson Tide, Missisipi burning, French Connection
Crimson Tide, what a film. Gene Hackman equally as awesome in that film
can't name one bad film. Crimson Tide when he rows with gene Hackman. Just awesome
Crimson Tide hands down. Gene Hackman is a beast
Crimson Tide - if you haven't seen it watch it, you have watch it again. Denzel Washington vs Gene Hackman showdown
Mike Adams is kind of like Gene Hackman in Crimson Tide...lost his command. (you thought I'd say throwing lots of balls didn't you?)
i think it was the one that Gene Hackman used in Crimson Tide.
Strategic lesson I learnt from the movie " Crimson Tide" staring Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman that "Loyalty and Rational Calculation of Choices" are imperative in critical situations . A Naval nuclear submarine (US Alabama) sanctioned by Pentagon to deploy a nuclear missile almost by miscalculation cause a catastrophic nuclear war between US and Russia in 1996. Caught in between the thin red line of strategic choices and time, a mini military coup staged between Ex-O (Denzel) and Captain (Hackman) within the ranks demonstrated loyalty and decisiveness, and prevented miscalculation while maintaining chain of command.
Watching Denzel Washington and gene hackman go toe to toe "Roll Tide" Crimson Tide one hella good movie
No matter how many times I watch it, Crimson Tide is still a badass movie!!! You can't put Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman in the same movie and not expect to get something awesome :)
Just watched Crimson Tide again. For a geek like me that was a full on acting *** Denzel & Gene Hackman - Amazing!
The movie Crimson Tide. Fav scene when Gene Hackman punched Denzel, who took it like a G, then dismissed him.
Today in 5/12/1995: Tony Scott directed Crimson Tide (film) is released starring Gene Hackman and Denzel Washington
In which Gene Hackman, playing the captain of the USS Alabama, and Denzel Washington, playing the executive officer of the Alabama, argue over command orders.
Crimson Tide. Brilliant performance by Gene Hackman and Denzel Washington. And some scenes with Viggo Mortenson, before Lord of The Rings.

The speech given by Captain Ramsey (Gene Hackman) in the movie, Crimson Tide.
Brilliant movie…. i still think my all time favorite was Crimson Tide with Gene Hackman, the chemistry between the 2 was unreal
62. Crimson Tide I love it when many many people at once suddenly tell me that an older movie I neglected to even notice is actually great and I should go watch it right now. I remember Crimson Tide coming out but never wanted to watch it. Submarines films don't appeal to me. Not sure why, though, since they often end up being very good. Crimson Tide was tons of fun, not so much for its riveting story (though that was great) but for it's superb cast filled with both familiar faces and actors who synonymous with the 1990s. Of course a film with Gene Hackman and Denzel Washington was going to be great. Even as a 14 year old, I should of known that and seen this the day it came out. Surprisingly, the only thing that rubbed me the wrong way about Crimson Tide was the obvious Quentin Tarantino add-ons, which both seemed out of place and too cute for their own good. Sure it sounds cool, but I highly doubt Denzel Washington's character even knows who the Silver Surfer is. Other than that, I loved it. It's an odd ...
If you hum the Crimson Tide theme loud enough, somewhere, Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman will converge in a flying high five
USS Alabama, Crimson Tide, Captain Ramsey (Gene Hackman), or Lt. Cmdr. Hunter after he assumes command (Denzel Washington)
Watching ‘Crimson Tide.’ “We’re here to preserve democracy, not to practice it.” - Cap. Ramsey (Gene Hackman).
