Kolkata: A phenomenal knock from Yusuf Pathan, who blasted his way to a 22-ball 72, catapulted Kolkata Knight Riders to the second-place in the point table as the hosts hammered Sunrisers Hyderabad by four wickets in their final IPL match, here on Saturday. (Scorecard | Highlights) Pathan made full use of the two lives to smash the fastest fifty in IPL history as KKR knocked off a 161-run target in 14.2 overs when they were required to overhaul it in 15.2 to make it to top-two. After being dropped on nought and 15, he completed his half-century in just 15 balls. India v South Africa, Champions Trophy : Big names missing in big game !! The last time India played South Africa in an ODI was in the 2011 World Cup, when India's top five were Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Yusuf Pathan and Yuvraj Singh. The bowling line-up consisted of Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, Munaf Patel and Harbhajan Singh. None of those players, most of whom are vastly experienced, are in the squad for this tournament. South Africa are also missing some of their legendary names, with Graeme Smith injured and Jacques Kallis skipping the tournament for personal reasons. Their fans might have felt reassured looking at the familiar bowling line-up, but Dale Steyn's side strain means he could miss the first game Team News : India: (probable) 1 Shikhar Dhawan, 2 Rohit Sharma, 3 Virat Kohli, 4 Dinesh Karthik, 5 MS Dhoni (capt & wk), 6 Suresh Raina, 7 Ravindra Jadeja/ Irfan Pathan, 8 R Ashwin, 9 Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 10 Ishant Sharma, 11 Umesh Yadav South Africa: (probable) 1 Hashim Amla, ...
From the moment Kolkata Knight Riders won the fifth edition of the Indian Premier League till the time they took the field in the sixth edition, any time Gautam Gambhir was asked to reveal the secret to the team’s success, his standard answer would be ‘team bonding’. And yet, poor performances in this edition once again put the spotlight back on issues within the team — synonymous with KKR since the inception of the IPL. Manoj Tiwary, who supposedly had a fall-out with the team management this season and barely did anything of note, said skipper Gambhir could have utilised him better. “Gambhir bhai could have handled me better. I was given a few opportunities at the top of the order, but I wasn’t shown the faith and wasn’t persisted with like a couple of other players in the outfit were,” Tiwary told MAIL TODAY. While Tiwary refused to take names, it is very clear that the management gave a much longer rope to Manvinder Bisla — 255 runs in 14 matches — and Yusuf Pathan — 332 runs in ...

The Sun 'rises' for the Sun risers in the night sky at the Rajeev Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad to caterpult them into the play offs, dejected Bangalore to return home It was a dream come true for the Sun Risers Hyderabad on Sunday night. No one gave them a chance, playing under a new franchise a month and a half ago, but they have risen to the occasion in fine style. Coming into the match knowing fully well that they had to win to enter the playoffs they bowled splendidly well when Gautam Gambhir's KKR won the toss.Dale Steyn was superb, bowling at pace and the men from Kolkata just could not get going, Bisla scored 15 off 18 balls but Kallis just took too long for his 24 and whenever the men in purple tried to up the tempo of the scoring, they kept losing wickets. They finished on a dismal 130/7, with Yusuf Pathan top scoring for the vistors with 49* off 29 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes towards the end. Dear All, The following is just a wild imagination, an attempt to mock the contemporary Indian cricketers, of course only pun intended. This fun exercise is done only for entertainment and not to belittle any of our proud esteemed cricketers.    So, what would be the names of the autobiography, if our cricketers were to write one:     M S Dhoni: Yeah of course… I am lucky!   Virendar Sehwag: I see Balls… I hit Balls   Gautam Gambhir: How to deal with Pakistanis & SRK   Rahane: The Art of warming benches   Rohit Sharma: My Experiments with the Indian Team   Virat Kohli: My Journey - From B*C to BCci   Yuvraj: I am the PLAYER!    R Jadeja: M.S Dhoni - The legend    Suresh Raina: M.S. Cricket | Fullon 48.2 Kulasekara to Dhoni, SIX, Thunderous wallop! Start the tuk tuk indeed. A stunning crashing blow to achieve it. It was a full delivery and Dhoni has sent the white ball flying over long-on. Indian contingent have gone mad. The dressing room erupts with joy. India are the world champions. 'Sachin Tendulkar' comes out running with that lovely smile. Dhoni has been lifted by couple of players. Gautam Gambhir, the man who played that icy-cool knock under pressure, is also there. Every one is hugging each other. The fire works are in display. Yuvraj hugs Gambhir and ruffles his hair. They scream. Tears of joy from Yuvraj. The Sri Lankans slowly get back to the pavilion. The Indian huddle is on the ground. They hop and jump in joy. Harbhajan is crying. With the Indian flag in hand. Yusuf pathan hugs him. He is still crying. Gambhir: "All credit goes to Sachin Tendulkar. We played for him. Beating Australia and Pakistan and now this, its a dream come true." Meanwhile Tendulkar is being carri ...
Team for the Asia Cup: MS Dhoni (capt & wk), Virat Kohli(vice-capt), Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina, Manoj Tiwary, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Praveen Kumar, Vinay Kumar, Rahul Sharma, Yusuf Pathan, Irfan Pathan, Ashok Dinda. Here are a few thoughts: *. It would have been nice if Srikkanth had flat out said that Sehwag and Zaheer were dropped from the teamdue to poor performances, instead of falling back on thetired ‘rested’ excuse. It is only going to promote a false sense of security in the team, that however bad you play, you cannot get droppedfrom the team; only rested. I’m just glad that Srikkanth did not say that Parthiv Patel was ‘rested’ from the team as well; otherwise my head would have exploded. *. Umesh Yadav being rested issomething I can agree with. He is one of those rare Indian bowlers with speed, and while he lacks control and discipline at the moment, he is only going to get better with time. *. Despite it being a short tournament, I’m surprised t ...
After a brisk start to the innings, the Knight Riders struggled as they lost Jacques Kallis, Gautam Gambhir and Yusuf Pathan...
Kolkata Knight Riders, the IPL champions, became the first side to be knocked out of the Champions League Twenty20 when their third game, against Perth Scorchers, was washed out in Durban with only 14 overs having been bowled in the first innings. Knight Riders, who had lost their first two games in the tournament, needed a win to remain in contention for a place in the knockouts. The skies had gone overcast before the toss happened, and Gautam Gambhir, with one eye on the expected rain, chose to bowl on what his counterpart Marcus North called a "bat-first wicket". Knight Riders' bowlers stuck to their goal of restricting Perth Scorchers to a reasonable total till the rains came down. Brett Lee had Herschelle Gibbs caught at cover-point off the fifth ball of the game. Yusuf Pathan, bowling for the first time in the tournament, used the turn and bounce available on a brown Kingsmead surface to get through three tight overs of offspin. The usually free-flowing Shaun Marsh was more circumspect but built Sco ...

1. Mahendra Singh Dhoni According to Forbes, the Indian skipper has made over $26.5 million over the past one year, with just $3.5 million of that coming courtesy of his on-field play and the rest from endorsements. He reportedly endorses as many as 25 brands including the likes of Pepsi, Reebok and Sony. 2. Sachin Tendulkar The name that has topped such lists on many occassions in the past is now at number 2. Tendulkar’s popularity still helped him rake in an estimated $16.5 million last year, a majority of which came from his 16 sponsors. The list includes Adidas, Coca Cola, Castrol and Toshiba. 3. Gautam Gambhir Next up on the list is Gautam Gambhir who has a total earnings of $7.3 million last year. The break up is more equal in his case with $3.9 million coming in from his cricket and the rest through endorsements like Reebok, Red Bull and Hero Honda. 4. Kolkata Knight Riders: The Gautam Gambhir-led side's performance so far in this tournament has been similar to that of the captain. Hey frnzz do you think dat Gautam Gambhir & Rohit Sharma are perfect 4 T20 World Cup why not Yusuf Pathan & Robin Uthappa???
The first time that Sehwag was dropped from a major game under Dhoni’s captaincy was for the final of the World T20 Championship in 2007. Yusuf Pathan was picked instead. This was just a few days after Dhoni took over as the India’s captain. And since then Sehwag has been dispensable to Dhoni’s scheme of things in both the 50-over and the T20 format of the game. He played only five of the ten games in the 2007-08 CB series in Australia as Dhoni went in with Robin Uthappa. Later in 2008, he was dropped against Bangladesh despite scoring a ton against Pakistan in the previous game. More recently, early this year he was part of the senior three along with Sachin Tendulkar and Gautam Gambhir who played musical chairs in the tri-series Down Under. Sehwag’s cause hasn’t been helped by injuries. During the 2009 T20 World Cup, Dhoni paraded the whole team in front of the press to quash rumours about Sehwag’s fitness and rift in the team. In the here and now, a dodgy shoulder has meant that he hasn’t ...
KKR has created a new record in IPL victory, Congratulation to SRK sir. Nothing is impossible (Win without Mr.Gautam Gambhir & Yusuf Pathan)
Speaking ahead of the IPL 5 final, former India skipper Sourav Ganguly on Saturday put his money on Kolkata Knight Riders to win. The 'Prince of Kolkata' rated Gautam Gambhir ahead of Mahendra Singh Dhoni as far as captaincy is concerned and even though the Indian selectors might have lost faith in Gambhir, who was removed from vice-captaincy ahead of the Asia Cup, but Ganguly named him as the skipper to lead his best XI also featuring Dhoni, according to a report on NDTV.com's website. "Gautam Gambhir is the best captain of the IPL. I really liked the way he supported his players. He persisted with Yusuf Pathan as he delivered his best performance (for KKR) in two years," Ganguly said in Kolkata. The Dhoni-led Super Kings who play their third final in as many years may be the favourites on paper but Ganguly put both the teams at par and hoped the Knight Riders would win their first title in five years. "I want to wish both the teams. But I want to see a new champion. I think KKR would win this time," he ...

'Yusuf is a magical player' - Gambhir Gautam Gambhir, the Kolkata Knight Riders captain, has said that the side's decision to keep the faith in their "core group" of players, including Yusuf Pathan, has been a factor in their strong performance this season. Yusuf, who had a series of low scores throughout this IPL, came good in the first qualifier against Delhi Daredevils on Tuesday, his unbeaten 40 off 21 deliveries crucial in taking Knight Riders to the final. "After we lost to Chennai Super Kings, at Eden Gardens, I was asked why I stick to the core group of players… the answer is, because I want them to believe that I have complete faith in them," Gambhir said after the qualifier. "Only that can boost them to give their best. That only will make them stand up to these tough challenges. I was also asked why I persist with Yusuf Pathan. I have always said that he is a magical player and that he will come good when it would matter the most. I was proved right today." Mahela Jayawardene, the Daredevils ...

If Yusuf Pathan or Gautam Gambhir doesn't fire when the target is huge, KKR will probably not win a game.
"If we're winning without him contributing much, it's a good sign for the team" : Gautam Gambhir (on Yusuf Pathan's poor batting form)
Gautam Gambhir leads Kolkata Knight Riders to win over Chennai Super Kings Skipper Gautam Gambhir struck his fourth half-century of the season as Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Chennai Super Kings by five wickets in the Indian Premier League on Monday. Chasing 140 for victory, the Knight Riders finished the task with two balls to spare, with Gambhir leading the way with a 52-ball 63 at the M A Chidambaram Stadium. Gambhir struck six fours and a six. Needing six runs in the last over bowled by Ravichandran Ashwin, newcomer Debabrata Das (11 not out) pulled it off for KKR by hitting a boundary after Yusuf Pathan got out to an irresponsible shot. The Knight Riders lost opener Brendon McCullum early, but Gambhir held his ground and, in the company of in-form Jacques Kallis (26 off 31 balls), stabilised the innings.

KOLKATA: Gautam Gambhir could not hide his frustration and blasted his players after Sunday's unexpected loss to Team Mohali at Eden Gardens. "You cannot justify this defeat in any way," the skipper thundered at the post-match conference. "Our bowlers bowled brilliantly to restrict them to 134. If you can't even get 135, you don't deserve to win," he said. Gambhir is particularly unhappy with the way his middle-order has been playing. "Our middle-order has failed miserably and it's been going on for some time. I think it's time for them to take more responsibilities. Things cannot go on like this," he fumed. Gambhir didn't spare Yusuf Pathan. "He is a big time player but he can't play such shots. It's time he should deliver with the bat," the captain said. Pathan, having a poor run in IPL 5, fell without scoring when Team Kolkata needed him most. The skipper talked of strong decisions in the coming days. "We always believe in playing the best players under the conditions. If that calls for hard decisions, ...
