Which Cricketer will you miss the most in the 2015 World Cup? a) Sahwag b) Yuvraj Singh c) Gautam Gambhir d) Harbhajan Singh e) Zaheer Khan
If you are a cricket fan, with the game all the time, the thing that the selectors did not select the senior players, especially Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh and Zaheer Khan should not surprise you. As a cricket fan, I am totally content with the selection committee. However, this is India. In India, there is emotion, sentiments, past history, attachment to a player comes into picture. People and fans in India couldn't digest the fact that the man who won us two World Cup's, Yuvraj Singh, the man who played 2 fantastic innings in 2 finals, Gautam Gambhir are not selected. The so called cricket and Indian Team fans took on the BCCI for the such a selection. They even passed comments on MS Dhoni, which I felt is weird. How come MS Dhoni select a team, that too for a World Cup? All I want to tell the Indian fans is to think practically. Yes, these players have given us a lot of memories and they have made India proud. However, the condition in which they are now and the poor ...
This is for those who barks against dhoni.non sense..saying it's dhoni who said not to select senior players! Pure idiotism! Grow.up guys!!! . Sunil Gavasakar has backed the national selectors’ decision to exclude senior players such as Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Gautam Gambhir and Zaheer Khan from India's 30 men probables for the 2015 World Cup. Gavaskar said he had already expected the selectors to drop the veterans as they had not made a mark in domestic cricket. "It was not a surprise because they did not figure in the playing XI for over a year and a half. If they had been scoring runs or taking wickets (in domestic matches), they would have certainly been in contention. Cricket (however) has become quicker, faster and teams cannot afford to take passengers," Gavaskar said “Experience is invaluable, particularly in must-win games. But the fact is that they have not been in form, they haven’t brushed for a place in the 30 probables is a telling indicator," Gavaskar said when ...

Virender Sehwag vs MS Dhoni It all came out open in India’s disastrous tour of Australia 2011-12. India were whitewashed 4-0 in Test series and were under pressure in a tri-nation series involving Sri Lanka and the hosts- Australia. Truth be told, Dhoni and Sehwag were never great friends but their differences of opinion was never this severe as was evident on that tour. Dhoni, after the crushing defeat against Australia in one the ODI match, had stated that the three senior players – Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar and Gautam Gambhir - were not being picked together in the tournament because they are slow fielders and could cost the side at least 20 runs. Sehwag, who was playing a stand-in skipper in the next match, retorted and said Dhoni gave a different reason to them for playing youngsters. "What he told us was to give chance to youngsters and come here and play the next World Cup. That was what he told us," Sehwag said. When reporters further pressed Indian maverick opner on his opinion on slo ...

Sri Lanka savour long-sought successSri Lanka savour long-sought success India v Sri Lanka, World T20, final, Mirpur "There were two gentlemen who gave a lot not only to Sri Lankan cricket but to cricket as a whole. May be the Almighty wants them to win a World Cup and leave on a high. That's why He put his hand in this so that they get another match." When Darren Sammy made this prediction at the end of the first semi- final, one felt how strongly the West Indies captain believed in destiny, particularly after a hailstorm hit the Shere Bangla National Stadium to give Sri Lanka a win through D/L, and depriving the defending champions of an assault in the last few overs. Sri Lanka's captain Lasith Malinga said the win had nothing to do with luck, but a lot of hard work and planning which brought them the victory. Either way, destiny or not, it was down to winning the big moments, and that's where Sri Lanka stepped up. Sammy's statement also brought to mind the sheer respect that world cricket has for Kumar ...
India's 2015 World Cup team is here Sometimes, in team sport, the past can sit heavily on the present. The team that won India's second World Cup contained the first player to make a double century in 50-over cricket. That apart, Sachin Tendulkar is probably the finest all-round batsman thegame has seen. Opening with him was Virender Sehwag, whowent on to break Tendulkar's record. The Man of the Tournament was Yuvraj Singh, the top scorer in the final was Gautam Gambhir. Also in that team were two bowlers with over 250 wickets: Zaheer Khan and Harbhajan Singh. Yet, two years later, none of them was in the team for the ICC Champions Trophy. And incredibly, none of them was missed. Continuity was providedby the captain, MS Dhoni and two stalwarts in their mid-20s, Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina. Forthe first time in a major one-daytournament abroad, India began as favourites, played like winners and remained unbeaten. Dhoni alone is in his 30s, and he is only 31, in a teamwith an average age of 26. The transi ...
India v South Africa, Champions Trophy : Big names missing in big game !! The last time India played South Africa in an ODI was in the 2011 World Cup, when India's top five were Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Yusuf Pathan and Yuvraj Singh. The bowling line-up consisted of Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, Munaf Patel and Harbhajan Singh. None of those players, most of whom are vastly experienced, are in the squad for this tournament. South Africa are also missing some of their legendary names, with Graeme Smith injured and Jacques Kallis skipping the tournament for personal reasons. Their fans might have felt reassured looking at the familiar bowling line-up, but Dale Steyn's side strain means he could miss the first game Team News : India: (probable) 1 Shikhar Dhawan, 2 Rohit Sharma, 3 Virat Kohli, 4 Dinesh Karthik, 5 MS Dhoni (capt & wk), 6 Suresh Raina, 7 Ravindra Jadeja/ Irfan Pathan, 8 R Ashwin, 9 Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 10 Ishant Sharma, 11 Umesh Yadav South Africa: (probable) 1 Hashim Amla, ...

The U-19 World Cup winning captain wasn't a part of the original 15-member squad led by Gautam Gambhir but his match-winning century in the Vijay Hazare Trophy final prompted the selectors to draft him as an additional member of the side.

After the T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka, Dhoni said Zaheer Khan was the Sachin Tendulkar of India’s bowling department. Strangely, he has not played a T20 match since. After the ODI series win against England, Dhoni backed Gautam Gambhir and the next thing that hit the headlines was how the selectors lost patience with him and dropped him from the squad for the first two Test matches against Australia. After the Chennai Test, Dhoni said that Sehwag needed a little more time and there was nothing wrong with his ‘ see the ball, hit the ball’ technique. And now, it is Sehwag who faces the axe.
Vijay Hazare Trophy 2013: Visakhapatnam: Mar 3, 2013 Unmukt Chand slams ton as Delhi beat Assam to win trophy India's under-19 World Cup winning captain Unmukt Chand cracked a brilliant 116 to help Delhi clinch the Vijay Hazare Trophy after convincingly defeating Assam by 75 runs in the summit clash here today. The 19-year-old blasted eight boundaries and three sixes in his 133-ball innings and was engaged in a 97-run opening partnership with Puneet Bisht (52) as Delhi posted a mammoth 290 for nine after being put into bat. Chasing the challenging target, Dheeraj Jadhav top-scored with 87 off 114 balls and his knock was studded with five fours and one six, but Assam could not get the momentum going and folded for 215 in 44.2 overs. Delhi skipper Rajat Bhatia emerged as the top wicket-taker, snapping three in his seven overs, while Parvinder Awana and Varun Sood scalped two each. Sumit Narwal accounted for one wicket. For Assam, Pritam Das of Silchar and Arup Das took three and two wickets each while J Sye ...
Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the hero of the 2011 World Cup Final. If we simply look at the statistics, then Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the best captain ever in the history of Indian ODI cricket. He has a win percentage of 63, which is the best by any Indian captain. Alongside being a good captain, he is also a good finisher. Let’s take a look at his top ODI innings as a captain, performances which helped India in crucial situations. 91* vs Srilanka in 2011 World Cup Final India were in deep trouble when they lost their opening batsman Virender Sehwag for 0 in the first over, followed by Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. Dhoni promoted himself up the order, and played almost to his best as he was struggling with his form. He got a start, rotated the strike with Gautam Gambhir and together they added 109 runs. After the departure of Gambhir, Dhoni kept his cool and started to play his strokes, smashing the Islanders over the ropes. Dhoni eventually led India to the World Cup with a massive six. 50* vs Srilanka at ...

Bedi: Blame it on pitches Former India captain Bishan Singh Bedi, who coached Tendulkar on his first tours outside the subcontinent, reckons the retirement decision will be only “HIS”. Bedi continued: “This is not an issue for you and me. I am nobody to give my view on this. He has to sort it out.” The Sardar of Spin spewed venom on the kind of tracks prepared for the series against England: “The kind of surface (laid out) for the great man to say farewell is abysmal. Who is responsible for this? It’s time someone owns up. Is this the kind of track you expect him to excel on? This is no way to pull him down. He’s such a great player. The man is struggling. We know it. He knows it. “Why only Tendulkar? Even other batsmen like Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir and Mahendra Singh Dhoni like the ball to come on to the bat.” Amidst all this ruin, Tendulkar’s optimism cannot be underestimated. In the depths of despair after crashing out of the 2007 World Cup in the first round, he still dreamt ...
Virat Kohli , the rising talent in Indian cricket, was born on November 5, 1988 in Delhi . He is a right-hand batsman, who usually bats in the lower middle order and is also a right arm medium pace bowler. As the captain of the Under 19 Cricket Team of India, Virat led it to a memorable U-19 World Cup triumph at Malaysia in 2008. He started the U-19 World Cup campaign in style with a century against West Indies. Coming in at his favourite number four position, Virat scored 235 runs in six matches at an impressive average of 47. During the tournament, his team strategy, including his bowling changes proved beneficial to the side and helped India win the World Cup, bringing him special credit. Virat played in the 2009 ICC Champions Trophy after Yuvraj Singh was injured. He got a chance to play in the 4th ODI against Sri Lanka. He scored his first ODI century, milking singles with Gautam Gambhir . They shared a 224 run partnership for the third wicket as India won by seven wickets to seal the series 3–1. G ...

Vanquished Sri Lanka have nothing to be ashamed of That it was the fourth time in as many ICC finals that Sri Lanka ended up on the losing side merely added to the gloom and despondency across the nation. Previous losses had been fashioned by extraordinary efforts from inspired individuals in the opposition ranks – Adam Gilchrist in the final of the World Cup in Bridgetown in 2007, Abdul Razzaq and Shahid Afridi at the World T20 at Lord’s in 2009, and Gautam Gambhir and Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the World Cup in Mumbai last year.
Another Kolkata player makes the World Cup entertaining, first Jacques Kallis, then Brendon McCullum, then Sunil Narine, followed by Shakib Al Hasan and today it was Eoin Morgan :).. Hoping that Gautam Gambhir breaks this pattern tomorrow:p Nevertheless, the Knight Riders rock!! Happy with their form before the Champions League (y)
The first time that Sehwag was dropped from a major game under Dhoni’s captaincy was for the final of the World T20 Championship in 2007. Yusuf Pathan was picked instead. This was just a few days after Dhoni took over as the India’s captain. And since then Sehwag has been dispensable to Dhoni’s scheme of things in both the 50-over and the T20 format of the game. He played only five of the ten games in the 2007-08 CB series in Australia as Dhoni went in with Robin Uthappa. Later in 2008, he was dropped against Bangladesh despite scoring a ton against Pakistan in the previous game. More recently, early this year he was part of the senior three along with Sachin Tendulkar and Gautam Gambhir who played musical chairs in the tri-series Down Under. Sehwag’s cause hasn’t been helped by injuries. During the 2009 T20 World Cup, Dhoni paraded the whole team in front of the press to quash rumours about Sehwag’s fitness and rift in the team. In the here and now, a dodgy shoulder has meant that he hasn’t ...
T-20 World Cup: Indian team ‘s problem has always been the non-availability of fourth & fifth quality bowler either in ODI’s or T-20’s which had cost us so many matches. Playing with 4 regular bowlers with the fifth in Irfan Pathan can take us atleast up semis. From there, it’s always a gamble. Manoj Tiwary can be rotated either for Gambhir of Sewhag. With Dhoni’s luck being dwindling for the last 3 seasons, be it either in Test’s, ODI’s or T-20’s, it would be wise on his part not to expireriment with the likes of Harbhajhan, Rohit Sharma or Piyush Chawla for the entire series if Indian team has any dream of atleast making it to the semis if not for the finals or lifting the Cup. Due to Dhoni’s wrong selection policy/Supertiority of other teams, Indian has fared worsely in the previous two T-20 world cups & cost many games including the latest T-20 against the kiwis. The best lineup would be 1. Gautam Gambhir or Manoj Tiwary, 2. Virender Sehwag 3. Virat Kohli, 4. Suresh Raina, 5. Y ...

CHENNAI: Shahrukh Khan performed cartwheels and went on an embracing rampage. Wasim Akram likened the win to Pakistan’s World Cup triumph. Gautam Gambhir shed his stoicism momentarily and allowed his face to crease into a wide grin – and rightly so! After all, the most maligned of IPL sides had finally lifted the biggest prize. Following season after season of humiliation, Kolkata Knight Riders rode on Manvinder Bisla’s swashbuckling 48-ball 89 and held their nerve to carve out a five-wicket win over defending champions Chennai Super Kings in the final of IPL-V on Sunday night. The result stopped Chennai well short in their tracks as they attempted an unlikely hat-trick of IPL titles. Chasing Chennai’s imposing 190, Kolkata were served well by Bisla, who slammed five sixes to vindicate his replacement of Brendon McCullum in the eleven and partnered Jacques Kallis for 136 runs in just 82 balls to power Kolkata ahead, after the visiting team had lost skipper Gautam Gambhir in the first over of the p ...
