No place for 2011 hero Yuvraj & other 4 players in India's World Cup Squad. All-rounder Yuvraj Singh has been left out of the India squad which will defend the 50-over World Cup title he helped them win in 2011. Gautam Gambhir, who top scored for India in the 2011 World Cup final against Sri Lanka. Fellow opener Virender Sehwag, paceman Zaheer Khan and off-spinner Harbhajan Singh are the three other members from that victorious team who were not considered for the tournament.
Virender Sehwag vs MS Dhoni It all came out open in India’s disastrous tour of Australia 2011-12. India were whitewashed 4-0 in Test series and were under pressure in a tri-nation series involving Sri Lanka and the hosts- Australia. Truth be told, Dhoni and Sehwag were never great friends but their differences of opinion was never this severe as was evident on that tour. Dhoni, after the crushing defeat against Australia in one the ODI match, had stated that the three senior players – Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar and Gautam Gambhir - were not being picked together in the tournament because they are slow fielders and could cost the side at least 20 runs. Sehwag, who was playing a stand-in skipper in the next match, retorted and said Dhoni gave a different reason to them for playing youngsters. "What he told us was to give chance to youngsters and come here and play the next World Cup. That was what he told us," Sehwag said. When reporters further pressed Indian maverick opner on his opinion on slo ...
Sri Lanka savour long-sought successSri Lanka savour long-sought success India v Sri Lanka, World T20, final, Mirpur "There were two gentlemen who gave a lot not only to Sri Lankan cricket but to cricket as a whole. May be the Almighty wants them to win a World Cup and leave on a high. That's why He put his hand in this so that they get another match." When Darren Sammy made this prediction at the end of the first semi- final, one felt how strongly the West Indies captain believed in destiny, particularly after a hailstorm hit the Shere Bangla National Stadium to give Sri Lanka a win through D/L, and depriving the defending champions of an assault in the last few overs. Sri Lanka's captain Lasith Malinga said the win had nothing to do with luck, but a lot of hard work and planning which brought them the victory. Either way, destiny or not, it was down to winning the big moments, and that's where Sri Lanka stepped up. Sammy's statement also brought to mind the sheer respect that world cricket has for Kumar ...
Out-of-favour opener Gautam Gambhir refused to believe that fatigue due to excessive cricket was the reason behind India's back-to-back defeats in the ongoing Tri series in the West Indies. "Not at all...if you talk about fatigue, then it should not only affect the Indian team but also the other teams. They should also get affected by it. Sri Lanka is playing the same amount of cricket as India. If other team has played well, we must acknowledge it. There efforts should be recognised," said Gambhir. The Delhi dasher refused to comment on Virat Kohli's captaincy, who is leading the national side in the absence of regular skipper MS Dhoni, who has been ruled out of the series due to a hamstring injury. "No comments...Thank you," was Gambhir's curt reply. India's tri-series campaign was thrown into disarray after a crushing 161-run defeat against Sri Lanka in Kingston last night. The Indians first allowed Sri Lanka to post a mammoth 348 for one and then were shot out for 187 in 44.5 overs to suffer their sec ...
After the T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka, Dhoni said Zaheer Khan was the Sachin Tendulkar of India’s bowling department. Strangely, he has not played a T20 match since. After the ODI series win against England, Dhoni backed Gautam Gambhir and the next thing that hit the headlines was how the selectors lost patience with him and dropped him from the squad for the first two Test matches against Australia. After the Chennai Test, Dhoni said that Sehwag needed a little more time and there was nothing wrong with his ‘ see the ball, hit the ball’ technique. And now, it is Sehwag who faces the axe.

MS Dhoni won his third successive toss and asked England to bat even as the fog lifted to allow a timely start in cold Mohali. England made an expected change, and chose Jos Buttler to keep wicket in place of Craig Kieswetter, who has struggled with the bat against spin this series. While England persisted with the expensive Jade Dernbach, India took the unexpected call of leaving out the opener Ajinkya Rahane after a couple of failures in Kochi and Ranchi. Rohit Sharma was drafted in, and it was not clear who would come out to open the innings with Gautam Gambhir. When Virender Sehwag was in the squad, Rahane had spent months on the bench, his chances restricted to a lone ODI appearance in all of 2012 in a dead game in Sri Lanka. In Mohali, Dhoni said the pitch had spent some time under covers and had no hesitation in sending Alastair Cook and his men in. While Cook agreed about the slightly damp conditions, he also pointed out that Mohali had produced some high-scoring games, and hoped there would be si ...

Virat Kohli has completed fo ur full years in international cricket. Yet, he already has achievements to boast about that some ODI greats haven’t even attained yet. Kohli has more ODI centuries as Viv Richards, Gordon Greenidge, and Aravinda De Silva managed in their entire careers. In addition to this, he has scored more ODI centuries than Gautam Gambhir, Matthew Hayden, Inzamamul Haq, Kevin Pietersen, Javed Miandad and Dean Jones to name a few. One can’t even say that he has been bashing the minnows on batting-friendly pitches as he has scored hundreds in one day matches against Australia, England, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and New Zealand both at home and away. What is remarkable about these achievements is the fact that he is still at the initial stage of his ODI career, having established himself as a sur ...

Vanquished Sri Lanka have nothing to be ashamed of That it was the fourth time in as many ICC finals that Sri Lanka ended up on the losing side merely added to the gloom and despondency across the nation. Previous losses had been fashioned by extraordinary efforts from inspired individuals in the opposition ranks – Adam Gilchrist in the final of the World Cup in Bridgetown in 2007, Abdul Razzaq and Shahid Afridi at the World T20 at Lord’s in 2009, and Gautam Gambhir and Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the World Cup in Mumbai last year.
Millionaires v part-timers shows T20 divide: At the World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka, Indian Premier League millionaires will rub shoulders with struggling part-timers, illustrating the wealth gap opened up by cricket's most contentious format. On one hand will be wealthy Twenty20 stars such as India's Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir, and West Indian Chris Gayle, who have amassed considerable personal fortunes...
Gautam Gambhir is leaving for Sri Lanka for the T20 World Cup. All the very best. - Team Gauti
Sister's wedding Gautam Gambhir decided to skip the third Test against Sri Lanka in November 2009 because it clashed with his sister's wedding. "Something like this was unimaginable in my playing days," huffed a previous Indian Test batsman, Anshuman Gaekwad: "I am the only son in my family and I have three sisters, but all the weddings were done keeping the cricket schedule in mind." Sunil Gavaskar cautioned that Gambhir might find it hard to get back in if his replacement did well - but given that he had scored a century in each of his previous four Tests, he probably felt secure.

Ind vs SL: India beat Sri Lanka by 39 runs in T20
Virat Kohli continued to be imperious, and Irfan Pathan impressed once again, as India completed a successful limited-overs campaign in Sri Lanka with a comfortable win in the only T20 international on the tour. Kohli was in complete command, picking gaps at will, finding boundaries with minimum effort, even off the occasional mistimed shot, and helped take India to 155. Irfan, who found considerable swing, undermined a Sri Lankan fightback with the ball in the death overs by dismissing three senior Sri Lanka batsmen and was backed up by a containing effort by the rest. The game began brightly for Sri Lanka, with Shaminda Eranga completing a unique achievement; his wicket off Gautam Gambhir meant he's now picked up a wicket in the first over of his debuts in Tests, ODIs and T20 internationals. But Kohli's entry to the crease ensured that early high was short-lived. Sri Lanka's bowlers targeted the off side, Kohli's preferred areas being through square leg and midwicket, and bowled to their field, but such ...

with the ball handed India a 3-1 series win as they bested the hosts by six wickets in the fourth ODI at the R. Premadasa Stadium, here on Tuesday. India restricted Sri Lanka to 251, and survived a testy opening spell from Lasith Malinga - who cleaned up the in-form Gautam Gambhir in the first over for a duck - to chase the target down with 46 balls to spare. Sri Lanka made all the right moves as they rid themselves of Virender Sehwag (34) and extended Rohit Sharma’s wretched run, and when Tiwary was trapped in front by Jeevan Mendis, the match could have swung either way. Kohli and Suresh Raina (58) came together at 109 for four in the 24th over, a period during which Sri Lanka looked set to tighten the screws on India’s middle order. But the two, after a cautious beginning, added 146 in 18.4 overs in an unbeaten fifth-wicket stand, which concluded in a frenzy as 65 runs came off the last five overs. Kohli started slowly, reaching his fifty in 65 balls, but accelerated mercilessly as he neared his ce ...

Gautam Gambhir reckons Sri Lanka have never been underestimated by his team – Cricket News Update
Sri Lanka thrash India by nine wickets, square series Perera sets it up, Dilshan and Tharanga finish in style. HAMBANTOTA: Medium pacer Thisara Perera ransacked India’s vaunted batting card in blustery conditions as Sri Lanka thrashed India by nine wickets in the second ODI here on Tuesday. The victory, achieved with more than 30 overs to spare, helped the hosts square the five-match series 1-1, and is India's second worst ODI defeat in terms of balls remaining. India elected to bat as a strong breeze raged across the field, and after a devil-may-care beginning from Virender Sehwag found themselves shorn of their top-order in the face of smart bowling by Perera (who at one stage boasted figures of 3-3-0-3) and Angelo Mathews (7-2-14-3). Unable to recover from repeated setbacks, India was shot out for 138 in 33.3 overs, with Gautam Gambhir (65) playing the lone hand. Sri Lanka faced no trouble in chasing down the paltry target, with a little help from India who bowled 14 wides in 20 overs and grassed Til ...

India's innings was set up by 96 from Virender Sehwag and 106 from Virat Kohli after India won the toss and chose to bat first. Sehwag was scratchy to begin with and dropped by Tillakaratne Dilshan with his score still in single digits but he recovered his touch to stroke his way to 96. Kohli was assured right from the start and looked good for a ton early in his innings. Sehwag and Kohli added 173 for the second wicket in 29.1 overs after Gautam Gambhir's early dismissal for just 3 runs.
