squad for the Asia Cup earlier this year, has been named as skipper for the 3-match ODI series against Bangladesh. A number of the usual suspects like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, R Ashwin, R Jadeja have been rested for the ODIs. Robin Uthappa, after shining in the IPL, has also been included. Gautam Gambhir, who last played a Test for India in 2012 against England, has also been named in the Test squad for the tour of England. Zaheer Khan has been dropped from the side that toured New Zealand but this 18-man squad includes six pacers and all-rounder, Stuart Binny. Only three members (MS Dhoni, Gautam Gambhir, Ishant Sharma) of the squad named have played a Test in England before India will be touring Bangladesh for a short tour comprising of just three ODIs, which will be played in Dhaka between June 15-19. Gautam Gambhir has advised Team India to not take hosts New Zealand lightly in their 5-ODI and two-Test series starting Jan 19.
Back at Rajkot on 14 Nov 2008, Yuvraj Singh scored a 64 ball century against England.. That was then the second fastest 100 by an Indian behind 62 ball thriller by Mohammad Azharuddin against New Zealand at Baroda in 17 December 1988 but since then, Virat Kohli has twice broken the record which was later owned by Virender Sehwag with his 60 ball knock. Yuvraj was injured that day, and hence, had Gautam Gambhir as runner (trick?). Otherwise, I'm sure this Punjab Left hander could have scored the first double century in one day Internationals as well. Questions poured in at Itsonlycricket answers, asking for lists of exceptionally quick 100s ever made in one day international cricket.. I've done one better, and included the list fastest century ever made by all test playing nations, cause I firmly believe this record is also going to change frequently due to the kind of bats batsmen use these days and the evolution of Twenty20 games. Currently, Shahid Afridi of Pakistan holds the record of fastest century i ...
What is Your Favourate Partnership... 1.413 for the opening wicket between Vinoo Mankad (in pic) and Pankaj Roy against New Zealand, January 1956 in Madras: India’s opening batsmen rewrote a few records here. It was the biggest opening stand in Tests (beating Len Hutton and Cyril Washbrook’s 359 in 1948 against SA). It remains India’s highest partnership, having beaten 238 by Polly Umrigar and Vijay Manjrekar earlier in the same series. Mankad (231) held the Indian record for the highest Test score till 1983 till Sunil Gavaskar bettered it. The 413-run opening record was finally broken in 2008 by Graeme Smith (232) and Neil McKenzie (226), who added 415 against Bangladesh in Chittagong. — 410 for the opening wicket between Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid against Pakistan, Janaury 2006 in Lahore: On a pristine batting wicket, Pakistan made 679 with four of theirs scoring tons. Sehwag responded with 254 in 247 balls (the double was raised in 194 balls, the second fastest at the time) while Dravid m ...

Virat Kohli Turns 24 Today. About his achievements : He averages over 50 runs in ODIs, has 13 ODI centuries (12 of which have come in victories), averages over 65 in ODI wins and is only 23-years-old. Virat Kohli has completed fo ur full years in international cricket. Yet, he already has achievements to boast about that some ODI greats haven’t even attained yet. Kohli has more ODI centuries as Viv Richards, Gordon Greenidge, and Aravinda De Silva managed in their entire careers. In addition to this, he has scored more ODI centuries than Gautam Gambhir, Matthew Hayden, Inzamamul Haq, Kevin Pietersen, Javed Miandad and Dean Jones to name a few. One can’t even say that he has been bashing the minnows on batting-friendly pitches as he has scored hundreds in one day matches against Australia, England, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and New Zealand both at home and away. What is remarkable about these achievements is the fact that he is still at the initial stage of his ODI career, having established himself as a sur ...
2nd T20: Eye on T20 WC, India take on NZ After the damp squib that was Visakhapatnam, India take on New Zealand in Chennai in what will be the only Twenty20 international of the two-match series and once again the focus will be on Yuvraj Singh as he looks to resume his career after recovering from a life-threatening malignant disease. Although India are favourites, it won't be a cakewalk. They have yet to beat New Zealand in the shortest format of the game and going by the unpredictable nature of Twenty20, New Zealand will believe they are on an even keel with the hosts. India’s batting remains its strength. Starting at the top, Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir are tailor-made pair for this format. Though Sehwag has not been in the best of form of late, one can never take him lightly. Gambhir had a strong IPL 5 and has provenhimself in Twenty20. At No. 3 will be Virat Kohli, who is going through a purple patch since the 2011 World Cup, having scored runs in every format of the game. Yuvraj should retu ...

Cheteshwar Pujara's century is his first in Tests. He went past his previous best of 72 on debut against Australia in Bangalore in 2010. Pujara's century is the fourth in Hyderabad and the second by an Indian batsman after Harbhajan Singh's 111. The other two centuries have been scored by New Zealand batsmen. Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir became the tenth batting pair to aggregate 4000 partnership runs in Tests. The list is headed by Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar, who have an aggregate of 6920 runs. The 125-run stand between Pujara and Virat Kohli is joint third on the list of best partnerships in Hyderabad. It is also eighth on the list of top fourth-wicket stands for India against New Zealand. Tendulkar has now been bowled 49 times in Tests. Only Dravid (55) and Allan Border (53) have been bowled more often.
Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni today added more fuel to the intense speculation about his strained relationship with VVS Laxman, saying he was not invited for a late night party thrown by the retired cricketer at his residence. Laxman, who retired from the game in controversial fashion just ahead of the series against New Zealand even though he was selected for the two Tests, threw a party yesterday for senior members Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir and Zaheer Khan at his residence in Manikonda in the suburbs of the city. He, however, chose to ignore Dhoni for the bash. When Dhoni was asked at the pre-match Press Conference if he was invited by Laxman, he replied in a clear "No". The skipper also chose to pay little attention to the fact that Laxman could not get through to him to inform him about his immediate retirement plans ahead of the series
