The tension resulted in a fallout between Chappell and Ganguly lead to a confidential email sent by Chappell to the BCCI being leaked, in which he condemned the leadership and performance of Ganguly. After a series of high profile board meetings and public jousting including some players, Rahul Dravid was installed as the captain, triggering a revival in the team's fortunes. The Indians subsequently defeated Sri Lanka 6-1 in a home series. An important part about this series was the discovery of the young talent of the team, including Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Gautam Gambhir and Irfan Pathan. The team also beat the Sri Lankans in the Test series 2-0 to displace England from its position in second place in the ICC Test rankings, but India slipped back by losing the high-profile[5] series to Pakistan. Indian team continued its good form in ODIs, beating Pakistan 4-1 in Pakistan. India achieved the world-record of winning 17 successive matches chasing the total. India convincingly won England's tou ...

Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar get maiden call-up; Harbhajan included, Gambhir dropped for Australia Tests Sun, Feb 10, 2013 Mumbai: Under-performing opener Gautam Gambhir was shown the door with Shikhar Dhawan being his surprise replacement in the 15-member Indian cricket squad, announced on Sunday for the first two Tests against Australia starting February 22 in Chennai. Senior off-spinner Harbhajan Singh rode on past reputation to return to the squad to form a three-pronged spin attack also comprising R Ashwin and Pragyan Ojha. With Zaheer Khan, Umesh Yadav and Irfan Pathan recovering from injuries, the selectors opted to give rookie paceman Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who impressed in the limited overs-series against England and Pakistan, his maiden Test call. The selection committee, headed by Sandeep Patil, deliberated for over two hours at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai and made three changes to the squad that played against England in Nagpur in December. The 32-year-old Harbhajan, who was dropped from the team afte ...
Indian skipper backs hot-and cold Gautam Gambhir, wants Suresh Raina to take up more responsibilities
Dhoni defends out-of-form teammates: MS Dhoni defended the out of form duo of Gautam Gambhir and Ravichandran Ashwin, but conceded that the former was 'struggling for form' while the latter was 'trying too many variations' at the moment. India lost the final ODI by a staggering 7 wicket margin and had to be satisfied with a 3-2 series win. This win brought England on joint top of the ICC ODI rankings with India at 119 points, with the latter ahead on decimal places. "Yeah, he (Gambhir) has been going through a lean patch but he is an experienced player. I believe he has batted a bit better in the last few games. Unlike some of the earlier matches, he didn't look tentative and was a lot more decisive about stroke-making," Dhoni said at the post-match media conference here. "I believe he is improving and don't forget he is an amazing player of spin bowling. Ideally, we want him to bat till the 35th-40th over," said Dhoni defending the Delhi left-hander, who has now scored only 156 runs in his last eight ODI ...
Now the next challenge for India is to settle scores with Australia. An exciting test series coming soon. MSD will surely try to vanish his bad reputation as an inefficient test captain. He certainly has to perform well and lead the side from the front. Well I have full faith in him. From the very starting of his captaincy career, I backed him, whether he lost of won. I knew that he is a fantastic leader. I still don't see his replacement in the Indian team. Virat Kohli is too immature. He needs some time to control his emotions on the field. He needs to develop an attitude which MSD possesses... He can be tried in the t20s, but I still have some doubts. The selection panel on the other hand should take some harsh actions against the non performing players like Gautam Gambhir. He is certainly not playing the way he used to play 2-3 years back. He should be sacked. Shikhar Dhawan should be tried... AABHAS
Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the hero of the 2011 World Cup final. If we simply look at the statistics, then Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the best captain ever in the history of Indian ODI cricket. He has a win percentage of 63, which is the best by any Indian captain. Alongside being a good captain, he is also a good finisher. Let’s take a look at his top ODI innings as a captain, performances which helped India in crucial situations. 91* vs Srilanka in 2011 World Cup Final India were in deep trouble when they lost their opening batsman Virender Sehwag for 0 in the first over, followed by Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. Dhoni promoted himself up the order, and played almost to his best as he was struggling with his form. He got a start, rotated the strike with Gautam Gambhir and together they added 109 runs. After the departure of Gambhir, Dhoni kept his cool and started to play his strokes, smashing the Islanders over the ropes. Dhoni eventually led India to the World Cup with a massive six. 50* vs Srilanka at ...
Dear All, The following is just a wild imagination, an attempt to mock the contemporary Indian cricketers, of course only pun intended. This fun exercise is done only for entertainment and not to belittle any of our proud esteemed cricketers.    So, what would be the names of the autobiography, if our cricketers were to write one:     M S Dhoni: Yeah of course… I am lucky!   Virendar Sehwag: I see Balls… I hit Balls   Gautam Gambhir: How to deal with Pakistanis & SRK   Rahane: The Art of warming benches   Rohit Sharma: My Experiments with the Indian Team   Virat Kohli: My Journey - From B*C to BCci   Yuvraj: I am the PLAYER!    R Jadeja: M.S Dhoni - The legend    Suresh Raina: M.S. Dhoni – The legend. Part 2    R Aswin: How I bowled with a bat    Irfan Pathan: Who am I? (Bowler? Batsman?)    Yusuf Pathan:  Ban the short stuff    Harbhajan Singh: I hate Idli - Sambar    Zaheer Khan:  My best is yet to come     Praveen Kumar - I ball maiden only new ball    Dinesh Karthi ...
As 2012 draws to a close and everyone gets ready for 2013, we decided to find out what are our cricketers planning for the next year. We managed to get in touch with several cricketers and a few commentators, and managed to get them to disclose their plans for 2013. Here are a few of them: Virender Sehwag: I will stop dreaming about the captaincy. Gautam Gambhir: I wil work on my run-out problem. I will only score in boundaries and refuse to run any runs. Virat Kohli: I will work on my range and add more abuses to MC BC. I don’t want to get typecast. Sachin Tendulkar: I will silence the people calling for my retirement with a century. Cheteshwar Pujara: I will stop standing at Forward Short Leg and I will never run when Gambhir calls me for a run. Ravindra Jadeja: I will stop making these triple centuries. People have mistaken me for a test player, may affect my IPL price. MS Dhoni: I will start making my own pitches. Ishant Sharma: I will get hair cut. Rohit Sharma: I will finally tell everyone, yahan ...

Team for the Asia Cup: MS Dhoni (capt & wk), Virat Kohli(vice-capt), Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina, Manoj Tiwary, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Praveen Kumar, Vinay Kumar, Rahul Sharma, Yusuf Pathan, Irfan Pathan, Ashok Dinda. Here are a few thoughts: *. It would have been nice if Srikkanth had flat out said that Sehwag and Zaheer were dropped from the teamdue to poor performances, instead of falling back on thetired ‘rested’ excuse. It is only going to promote a false sense of security in the team, that however bad you play, you cannot get droppedfrom the team; only rested. I’m just glad that Srikkanth did not say that Parthiv Patel was ‘rested’ from the team as well; otherwise my head would have exploded. *. Umesh Yadav being rested issomething I can agree with. He is one of those rare Indian bowlers with speed, and while he lacks control and discipline at the moment, he is only going to get better with time. *. Despite it being a short tournament, I’m surprised t ...

India beat South Africa by one run but crashed out of the fourth edition of the World T20. TOI lists four areas where the 2007 champs must improve... OPENING BLUES: Both Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir failed miserably at the top. They looked rusty, lacked application and confidence. Their lack of feet movement betrayed their nerves. While Sehwag scored just 54 runs from three innings with a highest score of 29, Gambhir managed 80 from five games with a top score of 45. RICKETY MIDDLE-ORDER: As Virat Kohli bulldozed through opponents, others struggled. Be it Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh or MS Dhoni, everyone failed to live up to their reputation. Rohit looked scratchy barring his unbeaten 55 against England. Suresh Raina pulled up his socks against South Africa in India's do-or-die match but it was too little, too late. COMBO CONUNDRUM: While the three-spinner strategy boomeranged against Australia partly due to rain, MS Dhoni's team selections have not really been convincing. Australia may ...
South Africa, knocked out of the tournament already, won the toss India most wanted to win, and asked India to bat first. India were desperate to chase so that they could know beforehand what they needed to do with the bat. To qualify for the semi-final India needed a big win to go past Pakistan's net run rate of +0.273. India began the match at -0.452. In case India manage to score 160, they will need to beat South Africa by at least 32 runs. If they manage 140, they will need to keep South Africa to 109. South Africa made the much-clamoured-for change, dropping the out of form Richard Levi for Faf du Plessis. They also brought back Albie Morkel to replace Wayne Parnell. India 1 Gautam Gambhir, 2 Virender Sehwag, 3 Virat Kohli, 4 Yuvraj Singh, 5 Suresh Raina, 6 Rohit Sharma, 7 MS Dhoni (capt. & wk), 8 Irfan Pathan, 9 L Balaji, 10 R Ashwin, 11 Zaheer Khan. ashing opener Virender Sehwag was back for India as Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat in the World Twenty20 Super Eights group two at Premedasa stadium on Sunday. Pakistan kept the same line-up which beat South Africa by two wickets in Colombo on Friday. Sehwag was surprisingly left out of the Indian team which lost to Australia by nine wickets in the first Super Eights match on Friday. Sehwag and fast bowler Lakshmipathy Balaji were brought in for Harbhajan Singh and Piyush Chawla. If Pakistan win this match they will qualify for the semi-finals along with Australia from the group. In case of an Indian victory, all four teams will go into the last matches on Tuesday with a chance to reach the last four. Australia moved closer to the semi-finals after recording their second win in as many matches by thumping South Africa by eight wickets earlier in the day. We were going to bowl first. Bhajji and Chawla are out and Balaji and Sehwag return. Pakistan play spin well and we have got part-timers who can exploit the conditions. We want to do well in front of a big crowd.' Hafeez: 'We will bat. We have variety in the team and we want to put up a good score. The guys are playing positive cricket. We are looking forward to this game. There are no changes in the team'. Pakistan have won the toss and choose to bat! Good night guys. Sweet Dreams. Sleep tight.~
apna captian to sabse fisidi nikla yar. Dhoni’s strike-rate of 109 in international T20 matches is the lowest among all the players who have played more than one innings. In the 15-member Indian squad only Manoj Tiwary (strike rate of 88 from one match), Ashok Dinda (strike rate of 95 from one match), Piyush Chawla (not batted in the three matches that he has played) and L Balaji (not played a single match) are below the Indian captain in terms of strike rate. Yes, the list includes the bowlers as well, Harbhajan Singh with a strike rate of 120, Zaheer Khan (130), Irfan Pathan (125), R Ashwin (124) are far ahead of Dhoni’s strike-rate which is 109.When it comes to comparing Dhoni to the batsmen then the Indian captain lacks far behind in terms of scoring runs per hundred bowls. Everyone from Gautam Gambhir (122), Virender Sehwag (152), Virat Kohli (134), Rohit Sharma (127), Suresh Raina (137) and Yuvraj Singh (150) are much above Dhoni when it comes to scoring runs quickly.
India: The former Twenty Twenty World champions are in great shape at the moment. The team has had some good seasons in the home grounds and are expected to do well in the in the sub continental pitches which has a reputation of favoring the batsmen. It is known to all that India has one of the most dreaded batting lineups in the world. Therefore, expectations are high with the Indian Cricket team in this tournament. Another great news is that team will have the flamboyant batsman; Yuvraj Singh in the squad and so, one may expect a session of six sixes in an over. The squad of the Indian team for t20 World Cup 2012 is: Lakshmipathy Balaji, Ravichandran Ashwin, Piyush Chawla, Ashok Dinda, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (wicket keeper and captain), Gautam Gambhir, Ashok Dinda, Virat Kohli, Zaheer Khan, Suresh Raina, Irfan Pathan, Rohit Sharma, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh and Manoj Tiwary.
Um,Gautam Gambhir contributed a lot, not to mention Suresh Raina and Irfan Pathan as well. So no,they aren't reliant on him
Virat Kohli continued to be imperious, and Irfan Pathan impressed once again, as India completed a successful limited-overs campaign in Sri Lanka with a comfortable win in the only T20 international on the tour. Kohli was in complete command, picking gaps at will, finding boundaries with minimum effort, even off the occasional mistimed shot, and helped take India to 155. Irfan, who found considerable swing, undermined a Sri Lankan fightback with the ball in the death overs by dismissing three senior Sri Lanka batsmen and was backed up by a containing effort by the rest. The game began brightly for Sri Lanka, with Shaminda Eranga completing a unique achievement; his wicket off Gautam Gambhir meant he's now picked up a wicket in the first over of his debuts in Tests, ODIs and T20 internationals. But Kohli's entry to the crease ensured that early high was short-lived. Sri Lanka's bowlers targeted the off side, Kohli's preferred areas being through square leg and midwicket, and bowled to their field, but such ...

Colombo: India would look to carry forward the winning momentum and seal the series when they take on gritty Sri Lanka in the fourth and penultimate one-day international at the R Premadasa Stadium here on Tuesday. The visitors gave a good account of their character in the third match of the series with Suresh Raina and Irfan Pathan stitching a record 92-run sixth-wicket partnership to take the visitors home to a 2-1 lead in the series after succumbing to one of their lowest totals against the Islanders in the second ODI. However, lack of consistency by the top-order will be something to worry about for India against the hosts, who will be without their top batsman Kumar Sangakkara following a fracture in his little finger that has ruled him out of the series. Apart from opener Gautam Gambhir, who scored a much needed century in the last game, and Raina`s match-winning knock of 65, the Indian batsmen have thrown away their wickets after getting the starts. Both Virender Sehwag and Virat Kohli have not del ...
Irfan Pathan vs Yousuf Pathan && V. Shewag vs Gautam Gambhir...Isn't it intresting. Two brothers and two Delhi openers are competing with each others for the title. Its only possible with IPL :)
Kolkata Knight Riders beat Delhi Daredevils to take top-spot Two days ago, Gautam Gambhir was a stranger at what is his home ground in the Indian Premier League, as Sourav Ganguly played the 'home' hero. On Monday, he was in his hometown of Delhi, but as the visiting captain. At home as well as away however, the result remained the same - Kolkata Knight Riders the winners. And Gambhir walked away with the plaudits. This time, the margin was six wickets, and Kolkata now go top of the table with Delhi Daredevils moving down to second place. However, after being well placed at 75 for two after nine overs, Delhi failed to kick on. It wasn't until Irfan Pathan teed off in the final overs that some life returned to the innings. Pathan's cameo ended in the final over but his 22-ball 36 had taken Delhi to a competitive 153. For Delhi, the key while defending was to get Gambhir early. Strangely, Gambhir didn't have to face up to Morne Morkel or either of Umesh Yadav and Varun Aaron first up, with Sehwag throwing t ...
