A lone sne voice from black South Africa. By: Dr Lucas Ntyintyane, Bloemfontein Dear Editor, Gary Stewart's life support system was switched off on Monday. The Cape Town-based assistant driver's skull had been fractured by a stone. Another violent strike, another victim. A few years ago, an assistant nurse from Chris Hani Baragwanath hospital was another. She was on her way to work. As is the case with Mr Stewart, no word of apology was offered to her family from the union bosses. They blame the third force for the violence. At such times, I turn to the soothing sounds of Afro'traction and Asanda Bam to save myself from the cloud of despondency. Listening to them, one is reminded of the forgotten beauty and talent of this tortured land. This senseless violence is tainting everything. Former world boxing champ, Corrie Sanders is killed for what? What became of us? As the Chilean poet Pablo Neruda once said: "Perhaps this war will pass like the others which divided us, leaving us dead, killing us along with ...

Good morning to all! Some news for you.I'm right in the middle of three novels, one about my first experiences on the road (while I was still in high school I was also on the road every week)which was a big culture shock.I was this little kid that had never been away from home in Ky and was thrown at 17 into a packed club in FT Wayne In,that had a brothel upstairs, which was where we stayed Weds through Sun,while still attending school in Ky.It will be titled "Tales of The Road Kings".The second one is a bio on my good friend and co-writer Gary Stewart, and though I would like to release it first, its going to be last,as I want to get all the details correct, plus remembering all the experiences we shared sometimes breaks me down,as I'm a very emotional person, and so it's the most difficult for me. The name of this one is "King of The Honky Tonks-The Real Gary Stewart".The third one is the one to be released first, and is a true spy novel concerning the CIA and true events surrounding the demise of the first Mex ...

...looks like a * review in MOJO! Riley Grandma’s Roadhouse (Delmore Recording Society) Minor masterpiece of funky fuzzed-out country rock, rediscovered after four decades * (FOUR STARS) A true “lost” band, Nashville’s little-known Riley were contemporaries and kindred spirits of Creedence, The Flying Burrito Brothers, and a host of country boys with soul from Eddie Hinton to Tony Joe White. Led by singer/songwriters Riley Watkins and Gary Stewart, the group recorded its lone effort during a series of late-night sessions at Music City’s famed Bradley’s Barn studio in 1970. A few hundred hand-stamped copies were pressed up and generated some industry buzz, but little else. While Stewart would go onto country chart success later in the decade (before a slow personal slide that led to his 2003 suicide), Grandma’s Roadhouse was forgotten. Finally rescued by archivist Mark Linn – responsible for last year’s superb Kris Kristofferson publishing demos collection – the album proves a genuine r ...

Southern women have been referred to as iron butterflies or steel magnolias because a torrential deluge or tsunami of emotional havoc doesn't seem to be able to shatter the walls of these enduring females. Why? Easy Sleazy... We Southern women can construct an unbreakable shield around our hearts quicker than Gary Stewart can down a bottle of Southern Comfort.

His unique blend of Traditional Country, Southern Rock and Honky-Tonk, coupled with an anti-establishment attitude, made him one of Country music's original outlaws. His mid-1970's albums, recorded for RCA, are considered to be classics and continue to appear on several "Best Of" lists. Bob Dylan was reported to be such a fan of Gary's that he once drove miles out of his way just to meet him. In an appearance on TV's "Pop Goes the Country", he sings his first Top Ten hit."

Music: Most of the time I'm listening to country (usually old) or 90's rock. Other times it's straight up classic rock and whatever else hits me at the moment. Mainstream works for me. Country: George Strait, Alan Jackson, Brooks & Dunn, Darryl Worley, Joe Nichols, Montgomery Gentry, Brad Paisley, Gary Stewart, Tracy Lawrence... Rock: Boston, Bad Company, Pearl Jam, Oasis, Stone Temple Pilots, Eric Clapton (& Derek & the Dominos), Journey (of course), Van Morrison, Bread, Collective Soul, Gavin DeGraw *sigh*. The list really just goes on and on... Movies: *ugh* Here goes, again: Urban Cowboy, The Notebook, Saturday Night Fever, Grease, Napoleon Dynamite, Friday, Old School, Wedding Crashers, pretty much every Will Ferrell/Ben Stiller/Vince Vaughn type movie, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, Breakfast Club, Best in Show, Waiting for Guffman, and any documentary about the big people who can't get out of bed. No offense, but it's fascinating... TV: The Office, Samantha ...
